I got a new desktop just under 2 months ago. It's not a big deal but it can bug me sometimes. This is what My Computer looks like:OS C: is the primary internal HD.Local Disk L: is my 320GB external HDD.DVD RW D: is my one and only CD/DVD drive.E:, F:, G: and H: drives are non existent as physical drives installed on the computer, but they appear as options within the menu. How do I get rid of these if they don't even exist?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium x32. When I tried to set up Backup and Restore, I got the message "System image cannot be saved on this location." More Info gave me "Scheduled backup of system image is not allowed on removable devices." This seems to be a very strange message since external drives appear to be the most popular backup devices. Backup and Restore setup lists both the C: and the FToshiba external) drives but if I try to create a System Image, it does not list the Toshiba as one of the choices.
I have a Toshiba 500GB usb drive that I was working fine with Vista and Macrium Reflect. I now want to switch to MS Backup and Restore.
All of my Removable Storage Devices (Flash drives, External HDD) do not work with my Windows 7. When I connect them, I hear the beeps but the device sometimes show up, sometimes not and sometimes they appear after a long interval. On accessing them, Windows tell me that I need to format the drive. Well, I can't do that. It's happening with all of my removable devices, not just one. They work fine with my laptop which is Windows 7 too,

I don't remember making any changes however, I just became unable to connect.I having done a little troubleshooting.1. I can connect to the shares of my Windows Home Server if I use the IP address. The name does not resolve.2. Flushed DNS and restarting DNS server. Flushing DNS works on one client, to allow browsing by the name & restarting DNS works on the other. However neither works after a restart.3. Only my Wifi clients are experiencing this issue. My wired clients, desktops, PS3, Xbox 360, and Boxee can connect perfectly.This issue is not limited to my server. I can't connect to shares on my desktop, nor print to my wired printer.Some network background:I have DSL through CenturyLink and have a Linksys E2000 router.

Also, Removable Storage, I have 1 DVD drive, the rest G - L are bogus. One of those is listed as a BD-ROM which I dont have either.
Why are these listed when they dont exist?
I am planning on upgrading from XP to Windows 7 Professional fairly soon. I know that it performs a clean install and that I need to back up my C drive.
My question is in regards to my secondary hardrive. Will the clean install also wipe the second hardrive or will it leave it untouched? Basically, can I back up my C drive onto the secondary drive without fear of losing it all? I would assume it would leave the second drive alone but I couldn't find any info and thus, why I am here asking.
Amazing how fast one uses up the USB Ports supplied in the desktop PC.
Am trying to only use the ones in the back, as it gets messy if I also use the two on the front.
Have an external powered 4-Port hub that I purchased, and am using that also.
Seems like I need another one or two spigots.
Question: If I get another powered external 4-Port extender, can this be plugged into a port on the existing extra Port extender I already have, or must it only be plugged into one of the USB ports in the back of the PC ?
Does it matter at all, and the PC will recognize it either way ?

When I open up My Computer, it shows 4 "Removable Drives" (Which, I assume, are from my flash card reader, though there are no cards in them). They are hidden drives, but I set it so that it will show hidden files and folders.... I don't like all the clutter of the extra unneeded drives, so is there a way to hide individual drives?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently partitioned my hard drive (using Paragon Partition editor) and it failed, after finally getting my MBR working again, I only had 800GB rather than 920GB. This was the amount I had tried to allocate to a different partition, yet it does should 920GB some places. This shows the problemI really need to get the rest back ( I make movies and need space)Gparted finds it as 920.04 GB's, so it is definitely Windows that will not detect it.UPDATE
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy new Dell computer came with what looks like an extra taskbar at the top of the Windows 7 desktop, although it's bigger then the taskbar. Was there from the first time I turned on the computer. It's disappeared with no explanation.
I've spent over an hour looking at Windows 7 desktop screen captures and tutorials, and can't find anything that looks like it, and almost all other photos I've seen of the Windows 7 desktop don't have it at all.
I'm guessing this is something that the Dell OEM version of Windows 7 uses? Is it even part of Windows 7 or is this something from Dell? I'm not even sure what it's officially called, and don't know how to get it back.
The closest photo that explains what it looks like is attached. In that photo, it looks like someone took it and made it into a circle, but on my Dell computer it was on the top of the desktop in a straight line.
I have Windows 7 premium installed on my Dell. Using instructions found elsewhere I loaded the Fujitsu drivers and have a worl 1024x768 display. The only problem is if I hibernate the PC, when it wakes up it thinks the display is spread over two monitor the digital flat panel on Intel 8230M graphics controller and a default monitor. Sometimes I can change the screen resolution to not use the second monitor but most time I have just restart. I never have this problem after a start/restart. How to fix?

I just had a quick question on the possibility of setting up a kind of like virtual machine for an additional monitor in my room. You see, I am Renovating my room, and in the process, I am going to be building a custom queen sized bunk bed And on the top bunk, we are putting a 32" LED, and i was wondering if there was anyway to set up that screen as a virtual machine, with its own keyboard and mouse. I have a Logitech G19 and gaming mouse that I primarily Use, but i have an extra wireless Logitech keyboard, that i use for typing essays and such. So basically i want to be able to use the wireless keyboard on the top bunk, so that, lets say, if im playing games on my main screen, someone else can be watching movies or surfing the web on the bunk bed screen. Any Ideas? I know that i can extend the desktop, and just drag over a movie to the other screen, something along those lines, but in that case they wouldn't have their own mouse, it would be dependent on mine.

i am running windows 7 64 bit on a Sony Vaio, about a month old. Just noticed when i open my network and sharing center, and click on full network map, it shows my computer, and my router (asus rt-n56u) but also has 3 extra hubs and switches in there that i dont have. I have a direct cable connecting to a Motorola modem, then to my router. If i take the router out of the equation and hard wire directly to the modem, it just shows my computer icon, router ico, and internet icon.

This is an error I get when I try to install the Games For Windows Live Marketplace onto my PC. From my understanding it may be because I am missing the Windows Installer Package .msi?
