I am now thinking of an Ivy Bridge based computer and have come across the i3-3240 @ 3.4GHz.is it worth the extra 20.00 or should i just get the 2120 @ 3.3GHzI am asking if it is a noticeable improvement over the 2120?
Microsoft stopped making new versions of Microsoft Money, their personal money management software package and now they've made it available for everybody for free well, sorta. The new Sunset versions were created so that existing customers could continue to install MS Money without requiring activation, but that also means anybody can download and install it.From their page: The Microsoft Money Plus Sunset versions are replacements for expired versions of Microsoft Money Essentials, Deluxe, Premium, and Home and Business. They allow existing customers to use Money Plus to continue accessing their data. Changes to the new versions include file conversions from older versions of Money, no required activation, no online services and no assisted support.
Somewhere along the line my money 2004 upgraded to 2006 and now I have a new computer. Installed 2004 software and trying to backup with a 2006 restored file. Go through all the steps and get "restoration stopped you will get error message shortly and never do.
Is there any such thing as truly free software? Do you all know if the following "free" programs come with spyware or add-ons which can slow down my computer: CCleaner (for clearing Temp files and websurfing Cache) ImgBurn (for burning DVDs and Image files) BurnAwareFree
I am a regular IT user and I get problems with drivers once a month which take me a whole night sometimes to manually solve. Is driver detective worth getting?
I have Second Copy 7 & am really happy with it, but of course the upgrade emails says its "a major upgrade" What do you guys think, is it worth shelling out the extra cash to upgrade?
As any new version of Windows, one of the questions which puts any user is "what brings new?",and "Is that worth the upgrade?". And rightly so. Not all new versions bring lots of news and important enough to convince the user or a specific company to invest in upgrade. At Windows 7,Upgrade subject is more sensitive because it comes after Vista, an OS that simply "did not work" for some people.
Windows 7 doesn't comes with revolutionary ideas. Moving step from Vista to Windows 7 is not as big as the one from Windows 2000 to Windows XP, for example. Some people see in Windows 7 a kind of service pack to Vista, which, on the one hand, it is true. First care for those at Microsoft was to Windows 7 image don't look just as rumple as that of Windows Vista. The second was to Windows 7 don't take Vista's problems. Finally, only the third plane had located new functions.
Yes, there are sufficient reasons why it deserves to upgrade to Windows 7. Here are 10 of them, perhaps most important: Read more at the forum...
Does anyone think it might be possible to upgrade the RTM by doing a Repair/Upgrade install with the disk (comiing tomorrow!) for the Windows 7 Ultimate Signature Edition given to Launch Party givers?
It IS the same version (with some possible goodies thrown in) and a repair (upgrade over itself) install does overwrite the code while saving programs/settings, so ideally it would reactivate using the Sig Edition license key and be able to preserve my RTM installation which I like a lot.
I'm thinking of using a ssd for my windows 7 build early next year. I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on them. Ocz do some good value drives but I've heard their write speeds are painfully slow
i can't find anything solid when i looked it up on google. Every forum i saw was BEFORE the release of ivy i3's and they are simply speculating but even then they say it is 10% faster.Anyways,i can sell my current i3 2100 which i bought barely 2 months ago for about 106 US$ and get an i3 322- @3.3Ghz for about 129$. The question is,should i? Previously i had an Asrock Extreme 4 gen motherboard and it had a few Pci 3.0 slots and everywhere i read it said that all supported GPU like 7770 will give twice the performance on 3.0 slot IF the processor was Ivy. Im always looking to experiment with these things, ive tried countless GPUs,CPU's and motherboards in hope's to find that perfect build which will cost the LEAST for a new PC gamer and give maximum performance . I think this might just be it. Even with the 2100 it never "bottleneck'ed" my system,it was always my GTX 460 which was lacking. Anyways need your opinion, and would LOVE to hear from someone who has actually had experience with both or at least the i3-3220 processor. My current system is as mentioned in my profile, what im hoping to build is:
i3-3220 Any motherboard good for Ivy bridge processors 8GB (2x4GB) Crosair XMS3 DDR3 1600Fsb Ram either 7750 or 7770 depending on the availability and budget left
I have 4 physical hard drives, 2 of them are 150GB and 2 of them are 1000GB. Both are mirrored at the pre O/S level in order to provide redundancy. On the 150GB mirror I installed the host operating system (Win Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V) and the 1000GB mirror is just a Data drive. I've created my Virtual server in Hyper-V and allocated it 500GB from the 1000GB mirror. When I start up the virtual Server in order to install the o/s I will be asked whether to partition this "Virtual hard drive" i.e., have a C: drive for the virtual o/s and a d: drive for the virtual data. Of course they would be on the same physical disk anyway so should I bother partitioning the Virtual 500GB drive.
when I ran sfc scan recently it found a problem that can't be repaired (I've run the scan numerous times). upon checking sfc details, this appears to be the problem.Cannot repair member file [l:22{11}]"PINTLGB.IMD" of Microsoft-Windows-IME-Simplified-Chinese-Core, Version = 6.1.7601.17514, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch Cannot repair member file [l:22{11}]"PINTLGB.IMD" of Microsoft-Windows-IME-Simplified-Chinese-Core, Version = 6.1.7601.17514, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch This component was referenced by [l:202{101}]"Microsoft-Windows-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7601.17514.WindowsFoundationDelivery" Could not reproject corrupted file [ml:520{260},l:62{31}]"??C:WindowsIMEIMESC5DICTS"[l:22{11}]"PINTLGB.IMD"; source file in store is also corrupted? This laptop is only 3 weeks old. I ran sfc scan on my old computer (about 5 years old), expecting many corrupt files but it showed no damaged files.
Like Mac has the ability to add extra desktops can Windows 7 do it too ?Or even a way to let me increase my desktop size so I can slide around to different parts of it ? Can it be done or do I have to download a 3rd party software ?
I got a new desktop just under 2 months ago. It's not a big deal but it can bug me sometimes. This is what My Computer looks like:OS C: is the primary internal HD.Local Disk L: is my 320GB external HDD.DVD RW D: is my one and only CD/DVD drive.E:, F:, G: and H: drives are non existent as physical drives installed on the computer, but they appear as options within the menu. How do I get rid of these if they don't even exist?
In the screen shot, C, E, and F are legit volumes/drives. I have no idea what this Local Disk 'Q' is. I try to open it, says not accessible (and it shouldnt be because it doesnt exist)
Also, Removable Storage, I have 1 DVD drive, the rest G - L are bogus. One of those is listed as a BD-ROM which I dont have either.
I am planning on upgrading from XP to Windows 7 Professional fairly soon. I know that it performs a clean install and that I need to back up my C drive.
My question is in regards to my secondary hardrive. Will the clean install also wipe the second hardrive or will it leave it untouched? Basically, can I back up my C drive onto the secondary drive without fear of losing it all? I would assume it would leave the second drive alone but I couldn't find any info and thus, why I am here asking.
Amazing how fast one uses up the USB Ports supplied in the desktop PC.
Am trying to only use the ones in the back, as it gets messy if I also use the two on the front.
Have an external powered 4-Port hub that I purchased, and am using that also.
Seems like I need another one or two spigots.
Question: If I get another powered external 4-Port extender, can this be plugged into a port on the existing extra Port extender I already have, or must it only be plugged into one of the USB ports in the back of the PC ?
Does it matter at all, and the PC will recognize it either way ?
How do I set an extra mouse button as a key from my keyboard. Example, I want mouse button 5 (a button on the side of my gaming mouse) to be the keyboard key 5
I have 4 partitions...1 with 7, and another with Vista. I want to put XP on also, but of course I can't create another primary. I'm pretty sure I can add XP on a logical, but don't know how. Am I right, or am I out of luck with XP.
Ok, I just got a new Windows 7 Computer (yea! ). When I open up My Computer, it shows 4 "Removable Drives" (Which, I assume, are from my flash card reader, though there are no cards in them). They are hidden drives, but I set it so that it will show hidden files and folders.... I don't like all the clutter of the extra unneeded drives, so is there a way to hide individual drives?
I use W7 and Thunderbird email. Each time I print an email (text) even if only a few lines, I get an extra full page of return paths, authority, analysis, originating, etc. Covers everything from soup to nuts. Printing anything else is great, no problems.I have checked all settings and can find nothing that looks abnormal. If I copy and paste and then print..no problem.I have an HP Photosmart C4640, Can't find anything on HP website that relates. Does anybody have any ideas?
I recently partitioned my hard drive (using Paragon Partition editor) and it failed, after finally getting my MBR working again, I only had 800GB rather than 920GB. This was the amount I had tried to allocate to a different partition, yet it does should 920GB some places. This shows the problemI really need to get the rest back ( I make movies and need space)Gparted finds it as 920.04 GB's, so it is definitely Windows that will not detect it.UPDATE
