I've heard many people saying you can install Windows 7 upgrade version straight onto an blank computer (just to be clear on what i'm saying, i mean a brand new computer that has never had an OS installed on it in its lifetime).
View 8 RepliesI have an odd problem with my Windows 7 installation. The computer I'm trying to install it on is running Windows XP, and any time I try to boot from the disk (I have it set to be first in the boot sequence), it seems to just skip over the disk altogether and run boot from the hard drive (into Windows XP). I looked into this further, and it turns out that the computer sees the disk as being blank (0 bytes out of 0 total bytes).
When I put it into other computers, it is read fine, and I have even used this disk to install multiple copies of Windows 7 on other computers. The computer that isn't working can read any other disk fine, and has never had DVD-drive related problems. I've even tried copying the files from the Windows 7 disk onto another DVD, as well as a portable USB drive, but those didn't seem to work either (it gave me some error about the disk not being bootable).
I got some serious problems. About one week ago I accidentally cut off power of my pc while he was updating. When rebooting I got nothing but a blank desktop image, unable to give any input (mouse, keyboard, control + shift + delete). Control + shift + delete made the screen go black, so I assume this was my computer "loggng off" (enter caused the blank desktop screen to appear again).
Normally I fix my computer problems myself, so I started to reboot in safe mode. This worked without flaws, I could start the system repair and startup repair. This however, made no changes (still got the blank desktop screen on booting windows in normal mode).
Then I decided to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit entirely (on my ssd). There where a few problems (original installation cd wasn't recognized), but in the end (with someone elses cd), I got it running. I decided to start installing my motherboarddrivers (LAN, onboard VGA, ...). All went well. Then I installed the VGA drivers of my dedicated nVidia GTX 570, and there it went wrong; upon restart: same blank desktop. This time I had some input: I could right click on desktop, make new folders, go into configuration manager. But no cmd, no task manager, no msconfig, ...

So, I thought: my VGA card broke down; and I tried another one (nVidia 9800GTX). Same problems.Fresh installation, now on a conventional 750GB HDD. Again: all went well, even installing the VGA drivers (note: I didn't install the mobo drivers by then). So I though: it's my ssd that broke down. Then I tried to install Windows 7 on my SSD again; runned like a charm. I first installed my nVidia drivers, then my mobo drivers and we're back at the blank desktop again. So: my last option was: clean install; VGA drivers, and only LAN-drivers (not internal VGA drivers for my mobo). This went well. So I thought it was all settled. I started doing Windows Update, and this is where it went wrong again: during Windows Update, my desktop went blank again (in the background). Now I really don't know what to do further. One of the error codes I got was: 80246005. I tried the catroot2 fix when I was still able to use CMD next time I installed Windows, but upon doing the updates, I got the blank screen again. Another note: upon booting, I am unable to go into safe mode: when using the arrow keys, nothing happens for some seconds, then suddenly, it jumps a few places (the amount of times I used the arrow keys), but then the counter is gone and enter doesn�t work. To summarize:
- Windows Update doing really weird
- Driver conflict?
- I don't think my graphical card/hard disk broke down?
Update 1: Sometimes, when trying to reinstall Windows, I get a 0x80300024 error code, even though I just formatted and removed the hard drive.
What all is involved in loading Windows 7 on a new, blank drive from an Update disk?'ve got 2 computers to upgrade and am about to build a third one, so I'd like to get the Family Pack, which has retail licenses instead of OEM, but how hard will it be to use that on the new pc build?

Here is what happens when i try to install Firefox, the window that pops up at the top says C:UsersWIN7~1AppDataLocalTemp7zSB882.tmpsetup.exe then below that it says The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. That message pops up when i try to install anything.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThis happens pretty often to me... out of several "Important" updates available for download/install, one or two will have their checkboxes blank, so they are not selected for installation automatically.I can't detect a pattern of which ones are left blank. It always worries me a little, wondering if that particular update was left blank for a reason. I'm running a customized version of Windows 7 64-bit, so maybe the customization has something to do with it, but I can't see how a tweak that was performed before I even installed the OS can have impact on which updates are defined as "automatic".What does it mean for an update to have a blank checkbox in Wondows Update?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.

I'm able to get windows 7 off of MSDN for free because my university has some sort of partnership with them or something, but obviously this is just a download and not a disc.
Therefore I was wondering if it is possible (and how is it possible) to install an OS onto an internal blank HDD without having a disc (i haven't downloaded it yet but i'm guessing you download it as a zip or maybe .iso and they send you a key as this is how it worked for other software I've got off of them)
I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my PC again, and came to a blank screen after the reboot. I have the PC hooked up to a TV using the S-Video output on my graphics card, and suspect that win 7 is using the DVI port instead. There is no way at the moment that I can use the DVI port because I don't have a monitor that supports it.
is there a way around this so I can use the S-video output for the rest of the installation?

Initial setup works fine, but when the computer reboots it comes back up blank. I'm already running two monitors, one VGA and one DVI, and safe mode doesn't work either, I've tried booting from a flash drive and a dvd with exactly the same results.

I just installed a fresh copy of windows 7, the setup process even took me far enough to create the account, time, homegroup settings ect. It seemed successful. Then it restarts one final time and results in a blank screen after the bios screen flashes. I've tried every setting in the BIOS with no avail. Pressing CTRL ALT DEL at the blank screen just restarts the computer, flashes the bios as usual, and then when you should see the windows loading sign it loads a blank screen with no mouse cursor at all.
I've already tried formatting twice and it results in the same exact issue. The computer was working fine before hand, didn't add any hardware or anything.
i recorded some vhs tapes of my family onto a blank philips dvd. i wanted to post these home videos onto Internet so my entire family could see, but once i put the cd into my computer, it says that it's empty. i know the videos are on there, but my computer just isn't reading them. is there any way to access the files on my dvd on my computer?

I then tried to restore it to an earlier time via safe mode but the restore point available is only the one as at the time of the update. I tried to create a restore point, but when i tried, i cannot even find system protection when i looked for it and it directs me to system properties where my computer's description is blank and it cannot be edited.Even the updates cannot be uninstalled via safe mode.Is there no other options i can try in order to start my laptop normally again?

Ok last night i was bored so decided to re-paste my G7 so i opened her up and cleaned the Cpu and Gpu nicely. Did my thing re-pasted her up and put everything back in order.I downloaded some benchmark tools such as Hwinfo, Amd gpu clock tools, cpu-z, gpu-z and aida64.I also have ccleaner installed so far that is all i have as of now besides the bench mark and anti virus tools.
I was running hwinfo and checking my temp's earlier today everything seemed normal as i was curing my tim and making sure the temp's where ok.While i was checking the temps on my g7 i went ahead and downloaded some files on my other pc transferring it to my usb so i could plug my usb and download the files from there. All of a sudden my monitor goes blank and everything seem to be fine all the light's where on except the monitor.So i went ahead and dissembled the g7 to make sure that i wasn't pinching any wires that run to my monitor nothing was wrong there i double checked took a look at all my wires and they where fine.I restarted the pc up 3 times before the picture came back so i decided to run a chkdsk scan and this is what i pulled up.

I'm having problem when i make install windows 7.when the setup is over and the pc restart for the first time windows7, then my screen turn to black and only the logo is appearing down in the corner of the screen..and i was thinking , maybe it want a lot of time to start so i let it for many many hours but it continues to look like that with the black screen and the logo..

Go to Options, format the hard drive. Skip the CD-KEY Choose to NOT download updates Let the OS install Once done, Go activate Windows with your CD KEY Wait 5 mins. Tadam, Congratulations, your copy is activated.
That was tested on VMWare, after numerous other trials. Going to do that live now!
By "blank" I mean an empty laptop hard drive. I'm going to have my hard drive replaced, so I believe the new hard drive won't have an operating system installed on it. So if I create a system image and store it in an external HDD, will I be able to reinstall the OS simply py plugging the external HDD into the laptop ?

I get to the login screen, enter my password, it then says welcome and fades out like usual. But insted of it going to my desktop it just goes blank for five to ten seconds with only the curser in the center of the screen spinning round as if it was loading somthing.I have had this problem for a few months now and have lived with it. I know it is just my user account because I tried making a new account and it works perfectly.

I couldnt find anything close to what im experiencing.My computer was working fine, no issues or problems. I decided to do a fresh install because it had been about 1.5 years. Thats where all the trouble started....I have a legal Copy of windows and a Legal CD I bought from a store so piracy isnt an issue.1) I tried to install windows 7 home prem 64 bit and i kept getting a Missing Boot Mgr message. I figured out that when windows was installing it wasnt creating the 100mb partition for system files and what not.2) After fix that, my computer would not boot to desktop unless i had the Windows 7 CD in... I unplugged all other HDD's (2 Storage), Reformated and it worked.
3) Now once windows finished installing, I opened a few basic programs without installing any drivers or updates. Everything worked, left it up and idled for an hour no problems, ran tests on Mem and HDD no problems either. 4) I did my windows updates and it installed after which it prompted me to restart... I did and thats when the problem happens. I takes a very long time to boot into my desktop and once there, I have a 1920x1080 resolution (from 800x600) and i have no Icons, taskbar or anything but my wallpaper... if i press Alt + Ctrl + Del i get a black screen and if i press ESC i get my wallpaper background back...5) I deleted the partition & reformated, and same issue after updates. The comptuer works perfectly fine in safemode and boots to my desktop... It is very weird. I ran Windows repair and I even open CMD Prompt and typed in the commands to fix the boot, fix the MBR and scan the OS, Everything was fix or operational.
