I've recently upgraded to windows 7, and everything is running smooth and nicer than vista, but i'm been getting this notification that when windows is trying to activate, it can't. I got an activation key and everything form Microsoft for it, but i don't know what the problem is. For now its not causing any trouble, but i wonder if it will later on or not adn if i can fix it somehow?

I recently built a new rig and I had a problem with one stick of memory. The other stick worked alright, but I've been getting random failures. Can bad memory be inconsistent? Right now, I can't start my OS up at all. It goes straight to the Windows Repair Launcher, which fails. When it gets there, I can either find a restore point or let it 'attempt to fix' for as long as I can endure. The restore point option results in 'instruction xxx failed. memory reference xxx failed.'This leads me to believe there is a problem with the memory. But, could it be the motherboard? I played a video game for hours last night, as well as surfed the web and ran other applications. Everything was fine, until I shut down. This isn't the first time this happened. Last time, I 'fixed' it by switching the 'good' memory stick with the bad. The bad resulted in getting the OS up, but lots of BSOD'sView 7 Replies View Related
Since early August all my Security updates have been failing. It adds time to each boot up period as it goes through the updates and then at the end will say it's failed and is reverting all the changes. I have already done some research on this issue and ran "sfc/scannow" as well as "chkdsk/f/r." Both seemed to go through with no problems. After that I did a Windows update and 12 updates seemed to go through with no problem until the required reboot where we're back to the same issue of failing and reverting.View 9 Replies View Related
I have spent two days on the web reading everything I can find on this subject and have tried many of the suggestions but simply cannot get this update to install. I even went to restore back to before downloading the two XP mode files. Virtual Machine is enabled in BIOS and the MS tool verifies that. The event viewer has many red errors and some of them say ....Windows update could not be installed because of error 2147942413 "The data is invalid." "Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found" when trying to access any network shared drives. Our file server is a windows server 2003 standard edition. This problem occured yesterday on my laptop with OS windows 7 pro. I cannot access any shared folders, shared drives. I cannot access my own laptops shared folders. I can see the device on the network and can connect to my laptop and access files on my laptop from other pc's. I have checked all the services required and they are started, netbios over tcp/ip is enabled, network discovery is turned on, windows firewall is turned off and also tried disabling the antivirus on the laptop but none worked. Also tried the system restore, which did not allow me to log back into the domain giving error " Trust relationship between this workstation and primary domain failed". So had to undo the system restore.View 9 Replies View Related
I have several old Western Digital hard drives with many files on them. I tried to access those files by connecting the hard drives using a IDE/SATA-to-USB connection that I bought for this purpose. The instruction said to put the jumper in the "Master" position. The HDD did not appear in Windows Explorer. However, the IDE/SATA-to-USB is recognized by Windows 7 and the hard drive appeared as "Disk X" in Control Panel's Disk Management with a note "not initialized". The HDD was spinning. Under "Volume" it also said not initialized. So, I tried to initialize it and a screen appeared with a check mark on MBR type. When I click "initialize" an error appeared "Device not ready".I changed the jumper settings but with the same result. The same results when I connected these HDDs with the IDE/SATA-to-USB on a another computer with Win XP SP2.What needs to be done?View 1 Replies View Related

I just got my laptop back from best buy, they had to replace a fan and apparently re load windows 7. All was fine and I began running windows updates. Eventually, the computer, while booting got hung up on one update (fatal error code c000003a). I restored the system to the earliest date and finally got to log on. Everything seems to work great now, except I noticed the windows aero theme was disables. I Hit the find out what's wrong with aero button and it didn't return any results. I also checked "services" and saw that"desktop manager session windows manager" was started and set to automatic, but when I click that and hit restart service, I get the same error. Before I got this error, I got a different one that said I was missing "dxgi.dll", I downloaded that and put it on my system32, just though I'd let you know. I'm running windows 7, home premium 64-bit.View 3 Replies View Related
I am having problems with my Web Cam all of a sudden. I have a Toshiba Satellite L655-S5150 Windows 7, Laptop that is only 15 months old (thankfully I have the extended warranty, but who wants do a re-install?Previously, I installed the Kingsoft Antivirus and had it for a while with no problems, but I see this antivirus update has many new features and one of them is blocking my Webcam. I have since then unchecked the "block this program" for my webcam, but am still having non access to my webcam I can't use Skype or You-tube. What can I do to get my Web Cam up and running. After I unchecked the "block" box I was able to access my web cam for a short while, then once I rebooted no more webcam.

I tested a friends graphics card in my homebuilt computer to see if it worked. I took my Ati Radeon 9800 Pro out, and put in this other card, and then replaced the other card back with my Ati Radeon 9800 Pro. Since then, I cannot get the drivers to work again for my 9800. I have Windows 7, 32 bit. I am positive that I did a fresh install of windows 7, not an upgrade. I cant remember if I installed specific drivers for my graphics card at that time, or if windows did it. All I know is that the card was running good, with two monitors running together. Everything stopped working after I tried my friends card out.
Ive downloaded so many Ati Catalysts, 10.2, 9.3, 9.1, 8.7, 8.1, and also different versions (XP and Vista) and none of them will work. Sometimes it will just say "The current driver is up to date" and its showing the standard VGA graphics adapter. Sometimes it will say "Radeon 9800 PRO installed, reboot now" then when I reboot, it will give me this error "Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)" when I check device manager. Basically any driver I try will give me this error.Basically what I was doing was boot into safe mode, use DriveSweeper to delete all ATI files, then reboot and install different catalyst, then go through device manager to "update driver". Then I would get the error above.
I use 1-click and I get the above message at Windows startup. Have re-installed application.View 2 Replies View Related

One of the hard disks suddenly failed to initialized. The first problem I found on this disk was unable to open one of the zip files then the machine crashed. After I restarted the machine the HDD drive was missing from the Computer. My computer has 6 hard drives including the missing one. One is Corsair SSD for the OS and the rest are Samsung, Hitachi and WD all of them are 1TB. When I checked on the Device Manager the Drive is there and the device status is properly working. I checked on the Disk Management and I got a message to Initialize the Disk then I followed the instruction. Again I got an error message " Virtual Disk Manager - The system cannot find the file specified." On the Disk Management windows the status of the Disk is "Unknown 931.51GB Not Initialized- Unallocated". I tried to initialize but the same error I got. I did not name this drive but it named automatically RV 01 and the Location is 0.I use Acronis Disk Director to fix the problem but it cannot change the status to online. What I did last week was I installed some programs to the Drive X instead of Drive C.My computer OS is Windows 7 64bits all the drivers and software are updated.View 9 Replies View Related

I recently downloaded and installed a set of Windows Updates that came out on 4/26. I had about 8 of them. 4 of them installed successfully but 4 of them were downloaded and installed(on shutdown) but fail to configure on startup. The four I'm having issues with are:
Each of these are updates for Windows 64-bit. I was wondering if anyone else was having issues with these as well. I plan on waiting a day or two and try again. I've tried twice today with no success. For future reference, what can cause an update to fail to configure?
Our laptop prompted a download and installation of SP1 Win7 and we pressed ok. The installation became stuck and warned do not shut down computer but it stayed in this state for over four hours. We had to "hard" boot the computer and on reboot it tried to install the new update. The system became stuck on " Fatal error C0000034 applying update operation 236 of 80331 (_000000...) " Then we started normally but the system identifies improper shutdown and runs system recovery (Lenovo) We choose "go to system recovery point" and after some time the system reboots and goes back to " Fatal error C0000034 applying update operation 236 of 80331 (_000000...).View 3 Replies View Related
I had a new external HDD WD My Book Essential USB 3.0 (2TB) 6 month ago. All was good until two days ago. I rebooted my computer and I won't boot up. After disconnecting WD HDD it work perfectly But after I turned my PC off, and tried to turn it on, again it won't boot up with the HDD connected AND some weird ticking noise started in HDD itself. I sounds like it's trying to boot but failing and trying again. So I disconnected, boot up the system and then plugged it in. Nothing Not in explorer, not in disk management not in Acronis program, nothing.I rebooted and it showed and Local Disk R, but I can't even start disk management or open it with explorer, or even open any program to be able to see/fix it. In the end, HDD wasn't even turning on.So the next day I called tech support of WD. They told me standard stuff, like "Disconnect, Reconnect Try another port, etc ". Nothing. By warranty they can replace it, BUT I don't care about the drive itself, I need data. In this case they can't help me. All they told me is to contact special company for that, and it's gonna cost me up to 1000$.After that call, I noticed a burning smell from HDD. It was connected to power and USB. I disconnected and I opened the case of my HDD. SATA HDD itself seams to be fine, but the connection board (with USB and power) burned. So, I connected directly via SATA to my PC. And that's when the fun starts: BIOS did not recognized it. I switched the SATA port. BIOS showed the model and everything but it gives me "Ultra DMA Mode-5 S.M.A.R.T Capable but Command Failed." Reboot. In different software... NOTHING. Reboot again: and again "Ultra DMA Mode-5 S.M.A.R.T Capable but Command Failed". Reboot. S.M.A.R.T. Command Failed... Reboot 5 times, all good. Started LiveBoot CD by Wondershare. It found my HDD and UNKNOWN. Was trying to recover data from it, program freeze. Reboot again. Was trying to fix mbr with Win 7 Boot Cd, nothing cuz it can't see were to fix mbr. Reboot. Started HDAT2. Nothing. Reboot 10 times, and HDAT2 finally can see my HDD. Before I start any test I shows me read error from UNKNOWN DEVICE. Started "hdat2 most powerful test". Nothing. No errors was found. O_o. Also I try Read MBR with the same HDAT2. Everything 0/0/0/0. So what else I can possibly try?? Oh yeah, when I connected my HDD via SATA, that "boot or not to boot" sound was still there.View 5 Replies View Related

My laptop has been working fine for two or three months now, until today when I restarted it and suddenly could no longer use my USB mouse. Then I realized I had no WiFi signal, so I plugged into ethernet, and still had no internet connection. Most of my drivers seem to be broken, with my laptop functioning only as it would after freshly installing Windows, before actually installing any drivers.I managed to eventually find a way to install the WiFi drivers, and then the rest of the missing drivers, and restarted my computer to make sure everything was fine. The exact same thing happened again. Any idea what is wrong and how I can fix it without doing a fresh install? I don't currently have access to my backup drives so I'd lose a lot of stuff if I had to reinstall Windows.View 2 Replies View Related
I'll try to make sense of this to you. My computer has been working great until last night. Today, it bricked on me.Last night and until a out noon today, I was seeing occasional corruption of the image on screen (strange blocking/pixellation like a bad hd tv picture). I started getting locking-up freezes, which I could sort of unfreeze with ctrl-alt-del. This happened frequently while browsing the net las night (oddly games worked fine).Today at one point the whole image started flickering/fluctuating up and down and then the image scrambled totally and was locked-up, so I hard reset.Upon restart, bootup fails. Chkdsk, memory scan (from startup repAir and the installation disk), image and system recovery fail. When I read the detailed results from start up recovery, it tells me that no drive is present. So, did the drive fail, or maybe it came unplugged inside the tower (unlikely bc the tower hasnt moved). Or, did intel smart response technology screw up and the cache is screwed and it's messing up the primary drive it accelerates? Windows 7 64-bit OS on z68 mobo with 64gb SSd accelerating 500gb primary.View 14 Replies View Related
