Data Recovery - How To Initialize Drive / Unable To Access
My power supply on my old comp died, so it was time to upgrade computers, I went from running windows XP to windows 7 now. I saved my old "previously upgraded" 320g wd internal drive to recover the data to my new machine. I got an external drive enclosure, installed everything but windows is telling me I don't have "access" to the drive. When I go into disk management, it sees the drive but it's not initialized, nor will it let me initialize it when I try.

Unable To Boot Windows 7 Installer?
I recently took on repairing a friends computer, trying to remove multiple virusesUnfortunately I was unable to repair the os without a fresh install. I successfully wiped the hard drive with active@ killdisk, but now the dvd drive won't detect the windows 7 install disk. I did some more investigating and found that it reads cd's but not dvd's anymore. I tried making an iso image of the install disk and create a bootable flash drive with unetbootin and the bios detects the flash drive but when i choose to boot from it, the computer jumps to the next bootable device. I'm in a pickle, either I need to find a way to split Windows 7 into multiple cd's or any other way of installing without buying a new dvd tray for them.

GUI Effects Randomly Disable?
At some point during my usage, the effects for minimizing, closing, opening, and maximizing get turned off by Windows. I'll be enjoying the effects until at some point... closing and opening windows become instant (like in Windows XP or older), same with minimize/maximize. I never turn these off, but windows for some reason does. What gets me is, I go all the way into system control panel and adjust those settings... they are STILL checked! I uncheck/recheck them and press apply and I get my effects back. It doesn't last forever, though... the effects eventually stop working again and I have to once again go all the way into that panel to force them to work again.

Options Missing From Windows GUI?
Running Win7 and certain programs do not display options. For example... if I run msconfig.... it pops up but there's nothing there... just a blank GUI... If I try to install a program... the install wizard pops up... but it's just a blank GUI... same with Task Manager. I can run CMD though. I tried to run a Outlook export and the export wizard is also just a blank GUI. And then in Chrome when I try to browse websites it's like 90% of the CSS doesn't work. I think I might have a virus but Kaspersky couldn't find any issues... I also tried some online scanners. I want to install some more serious software but I can't get through the wizards because the options don't exist.

I want to use several of the Sysinternals suite of tools. Some have a GUI,but many don't. Ignorant me just double clicks on their generic icon and a brief flash of the command-line interface screen and nothing more. Can someone point me to some information on the use of this type of program?I'm not a complete novice on the use of the command prompt screen, as I use it for sfc /scannow, ipconfig, pinging to find my latency, etc.

Not Booting Windows Past GUI?
Tried to start up the new build after it had been working for a few days and when I am loading Windows 7 64-bit, it will stop working at the GUI screen. Here's what I've tried to do ..

1. Use startup repair (won't get past that Windows screen).

2. Tried to startup with SSD as the main drive for a working computer, got a BSOD and quick restart following GUI boot.

3. Booting from CD drive, HDD, SSD separately. Disconnected each device to see how the computer would react and nothing was working.

4. I formatted the SSD on a different computer and then tried to install windows on the SSD with no other hard disk connected. Stalls at the GUI boot screen.

No GUI Boot Screen Splash?
I have a Dell Alienware Aurora ALX, Windows 7 64 bit system. A dell tech came to my house and replaced dead video card. No problems now. But i noticed when i boot up, it bypasses the Bios boot screen and goes directly to windows to login my password. It used to have an Alienware wallpaper background and you were able to see where it says hit f2 etc for boot setup. I no longer see that. I checked msconfig and the no gui is not checked off. i checked it and then re-checked it, no luck.

Windows 7 File System/GUI?
This is a rather hypothetical question - I'm wondering if there are "mods" of some kind for the Windows 7 file system which includes some more flexibility in the GUI.As an example - I have searched for but couldn't find, a feature where you right click on a folder... and click "dump contents into current window", a kind of unwrapping of the contents of a folder into the same window. It makes intuitive sense to me, if I have a physical folder, I can just open it and dump the contents out in front of me. Currently though, I need to open said folder in another window, and then transfer all the contents BACK into the (let's say higher directory) windowIs there any tweak that would let me accomplish this kind of (command line reminiscent) file management jiu jitsu?

PowerDesk Process Remains After Exiting GUI?
I've always (10 years or so?) used PowerDesk in place of Windows Explorer (although I never choose the *replace* WE option when installing). Since installing it on Win 7, I've noticed some strange behaviour. After launching it from the start menu all is well, and when I have finished with it I close it, and its window vanishes. But if I try and run it again, it appears that nothing happens - no PD window, nothing. Try running again, again no window. Then bring up task manager an lo, there are three PDexplo.exe processes - the original that I thought I had quit, plus two from my subsequent attempts to run a new instance. I can delete one of the processes, then a second one, following which a PD window springs to life, and I can use it as normal. Again, if I exit PD the window vanishes but the process remains in task manager. I've tried running it in a couple of different compatability modes, but it makes no difference. I've just confirmed that on my regular win2k system the process is removed immediately after I exit the GUI.

Computer Won't Boot To GUI
Right, when I start my computer it boots into 7, makes it all the way to where the login screen would appear and just comes up as a black screen with a movable cursor, no sounds, no interaction, nothing.

This isn't the first time this has happened, usually when this happens I'm able to boot into safe mode and restore the computer (the restore point is always the same, critical update installed the last time I used the computer) this time it didn't work and now I can't even get into safe mode.

Specs that I know of

Intel Pentium 2.93GHz
1GB Video RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit

Create A Bat File That Changes Multiple GUI Settings?
I regularly need to turn off windows 7 GUI settings such as aero, certain services, unload certain apps in memory, all in win 7 ultimate. These settings will always be the same. I would like to know if it is possible to create some sort of file*batch file?) which would turn these settings off, and also a separate file which would turn them back on again when i wanted them all back.

I am familiar with working with simple .bat files, and converting them into .exe's and attaching them to shortcut icons. So my only question is where do i find examples of how to write lines of code to manipulate the windows interface.

Unexplained GUI/Dialogue Box Font Change?
I recently noticed that dialogue boxes of certain programs use a wrong font and I have tried everything I could find on the web to change it to no avail, e.g.resetting font settings to default. Best explained by an example. Look at the below dialogue box, the way it SHOULD look:As of a few weeks, it now looks this way:This is an example for program IrFanView. Other programs like Quicken act the same. The snap shots were taking from different PCs, so the different color theme can be explained

Cannot Initialize USB Hdd?
I have several old Western Digital hard drives with many files on them. I tried to access those files by connecting the hard drives using a IDE/SATA-to-USB connection that I bought for this purpose. The instruction said to put the jumper in the "Master" position. The HDD did not appear in Windows Explorer. However, the IDE/SATA-to-USB is recognized by Windows 7 and the hard drive appeared as "Disk X" in Control Panel's Disk Management with a note "not initialized". The HDD was spinning. Under "Volume" it also said not initialized. So, I tried to initialize it and a screen appeared with a check mark on MBR type. When I click "initialize" an error appeared "Device not ready".I changed the jumper settings but with the same result. The same results when I connected these HDDs with the IDE/SATA-to-USB on a another computer with Win XP SP2.What needs to be done?

Webcam Application Fails To Initialize
I am having problems with my Web Cam all of a sudden. When I click on it it says "Application failed to initialize check camera device and restart computer" I tried downloading a new update from Toshiba but the application never installed. I have a Toshiba Satellite L655-S5150 Windows 7, Laptop that is only 15 months old (thankfully I have the extended warranty, but who wants do a re-install?Previously, I installed the Kingsoft Antivirus and had it for a while with no problems, but I see this antivirus update has many new features and one of them is blocking my Webcam. I have since then unchecked the "block this program" for my webcam, but am still having non access to my webcam I can't use Skype or You-tube. What can I do to get my Web Cam up and running. After I unchecked the "block" box I was able to access my web cam for a short while, then once I rebooted no more webcam.

system 32, service pack 1, build 7601
Toshiba Web camera software

I looked in the Device Folder and didn't even see the Toshiba Web Camera Application or Device. Some people says to uninstall the device then re-install it, but I can't even find it.

Windows Cannot Initialize Device Driver For Hardware
I tested a friends graphics card in my homebuilt computer to see if it worked. I took my Ati Radeon 9800 Pro out, and put in this other card, and then replaced the other card back with my Ati Radeon 9800 Pro. Since then, I cannot get the drivers to work again for my 9800. I have Windows 7, 32 bit. I am positive that I did a fresh install of windows 7, not an upgrade. I cant remember if I installed specific drivers for my graphics card at that time, or if windows did it. All I know is that the card was running good, with two monitors running together. Everything stopped working after I tried my friends card out.

Ive downloaded so many Ati Catalysts, 10.2, 9.3, 9.1, 8.7, 8.1, and also different versions (XP and Vista) and none of them will work. Sometimes it will just say "The current driver is up to date" and its showing the standard VGA graphics adapter. Sometimes it will say "Radeon 9800 PRO installed, reboot now" then when I reboot, it will give me this error "Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)" when I check device manager. Basically any driver I try will give me this error.Basically what I was doing was boot into safe mode, use DriveSweeper to delete all ATI files, then reboot and install different catalyst, then go through device manager to "update driver". Then I would get the error above.
