Windows Cannot Initialize Device Driver For Hardware
Dec 10, 2012
I tested a friends graphics card in my homebuilt computer to see if it worked. I took my Ati Radeon 9800 Pro out, and put in this other card, and then replaced the other card back with my Ati Radeon 9800 Pro. Since then, I cannot get the drivers to work again for my 9800. I have Windows 7, 32 bit. I am positive that I did a fresh install of windows 7, not an upgrade. I cant remember if I installed specific drivers for my graphics card at that time, or if windows did it. All I know is that the card was running good, with two monitors running together. Everything stopped working after I tried my friends card out.
Ive downloaded so many Ati Catalysts, 10.2, 9.3, 9.1, 8.7, 8.1, and also different versions (XP and Vista) and none of them will work. Sometimes it will just say "The current driver is up to date" and its showing the standard VGA graphics adapter. Sometimes it will say "Radeon 9800 PRO installed, reboot now" then when I reboot, it will give me this error "Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)" when I check device manager. Basically any driver I try will give me this error.Basically what I was doing was boot into safe mode, use DriveSweeper to delete all ATI files, then reboot and install different catalyst, then go through device manager to "update driver". Then I would get the error above.
i've come across Age of Empires 2 and AoC expansion and want to play them, however get a graphics system error."Could not initialize graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw"
My specs are:
Dell Inspiron 545 Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8300 @2.50GHz Memory: 6.00GB Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 4350
- I've tried to right click the shortcut and change the compatability to XP server pack 2, run as administrator, updated my graphics card drivers and downloaded the latest directX 11 from the Microsoft Website.
Just upgraded from Vista Business 32bit to Win 7 Pro 32 bit AOE working fine before upgrade but now error shown as:"Could not initialize graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw"I've checked the drivers are the latest. Directx is ver 11. DirectDraw enabled. Video card is ATI Radeon HD 3650 with latest driver.Tried compatibility modes, disabling Aero, re-install AOE, XP virtual mode. Nothing works.

I have several old Western Digital hard drives with many files on them. I tried to access those files by connecting the hard drives using a IDE/SATA-to-USB connection that I bought for this purpose. The instruction said to put the jumper in the "Master" position. The HDD did not appear in Windows Explorer. However, the IDE/SATA-to-USB is recognized by Windows 7 and the hard drive appeared as "Disk X" in Control Panel's Disk Management with a note "not initialized". The HDD was spinning. Under "Volume" it also said not initialized. So, I tried to initialize it and a screen appeared with a check mark on MBR type. When I click "initialize" an error appeared "Device not ready".I changed the jumper settings but with the same result. The same results when I connected these HDDs with the IDE/SATA-to-USB on a another computer with Win XP SP2.What needs to be done?
i have several programs that will not run properly and not sure why. Firefox says it cannot initialize the applications security component. i have tried the way that the firefox support has said to fix it with no success. so does anyone know what i have done to make several programs not start?
I have been unable to solve this riddle. It appears tohappen when using web dowloaders, and with me happens only with Cnet Downloads!!! I have even tried going direct with CBS to no avail!

I just got my laptop back from best buy, they had to replace a fan and apparently re load windows 7. All was fine and I began running windows updates. Eventually, the computer, while booting got hung up on one update (fatal error code c000003a). I restored the system to the earliest date and finally got to log on. Everything seems to work great now, except I noticed the windows aero theme was disables. I Hit the find out what's wrong with aero button and it didn't return any results. I also checked "services" and saw that"desktop manager session windows manager" was started and set to automatic, but when I click that and hit restart service, I get the same error. Before I got this error, I got a different one that said I was missing "dxgi.dll", I downloaded that and put it on my system32, just though I'd let you know. I'm running windows 7, home premium 64-bit.
I am having problems with my Web Cam all of a sudden. When I click on it it says "Application failed to initialize check camera device and restart computer" I tried downloading a new update from Toshiba but the application never installed. I have a Toshiba Satellite L655-S5150 Windows 7, Laptop that is only 15 months old (thankfully I have the extended warranty, but who wants do a re-install?Previously, I installed the Kingsoft Antivirus and had it for a while with no problems, but I see this antivirus update has many new features and one of them is blocking my Webcam. I have since then unchecked the "block this program" for my webcam, but am still having non access to my webcam I can't use Skype or You-tube. What can I do to get my Web Cam up and running. After I unchecked the "block" box I was able to access my web cam for a short while, then once I rebooted no more webcam.
system 32, service pack 1, build 7601 Toshiba Web camera software 1.1.1.15
I looked in the Device Folder and didn't even see the Toshiba Web Camera Application or Device. Some people says to uninstall the device then re-install it, but I can't even find it.
occurs a lot of times when i switch on the laptop n when the start programs are still initializing. And a few random times too when i'm playin a game or just browsin in mozilla.
Run-as local admin doesn't quite work. I also started the initialization process then gave the drive back to the user to finish formatting in NTFS. However, the HD is 2 tb and he only got to 10 mb before Windows 7 quits and shoots failed error.
My power supply on my old comp died, so it was time to upgrade computers, I went from running windows XP to windows 7 now. I saved my old "previously upgraded" 320g wd internal drive to recover the data to my new machine. I got an external drive enclosure, installed everything but windows is telling me I don't have "access" to the drive. When I go into disk management, it sees the drive but it's not initialized, nor will it let me initialize it when I try.
I have been receiving this error message 'The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b). click ok to terminate the application'. why is this happening? the only cure i found was to reinstall the program but when i restart my computer it happens again.
I've installed the latest drivers for each. When I try to play a game I get the error stated in the thread title. I have also tried deleting and reinstalling the drivers. I've looked on several forums for this error message and possible solutions.
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.Windows detects my external HDD but doesn't show up in My Computer. Drive is detected in Disk Management, indicated as "not initialized". When I try to initialize the drive, it gives me the following error,"The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error".What I've tried doing:Do a clean instll of windows - Don't work Uninstall external HDD driver, turned off power, turn it back on again, reinstalled driver - don't work Tested the same external HDD on another Windows 7 system - No problems, detected and able to access Tried plugging on different ports - Don't work.

I purchased a HP laptop that has window 7 home premium OA edition pre installed. I decided to shrink my primary partition and install ubuntu on it.However after ubuntu finish installing. I get a boot error and it leads me to the use the recovery tool. At that point, I am prompt to put in a win 7 cd.I do just that but there is no response. I also tried to go into the window 7 installation screen but it cannot find any drives. On the linux live cd however, I am able to see all my partitions on the install screen.I suspect that I might have installed ubuntu on some important factory config files.
I burnt the Windows 7 RC ISO to a DVD no problem as far as I'm aware. In am able to boot the computer off of the CD. When I go to install Windows 7, it tells me it can't find the CD/DVD device driver. The driver is a SonyNEC Optiarc 20x AD-7190A model. Found the latest firmware (v 1.05); installed it.Still not able to locate the drivers upon install.
"A required CD/DVD device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVDm or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note. If the windows installation media is in the drive, you can safely remove it for this step."
