Install XP Mode - ErrorCode 2147942413 Invalid Data Windows6.1-KB95855

Jan 2, 2012

I have spent two days on the web reading everything I can find on this subject and have tried many of the suggestions but simply cannot get this update to install. I even went to restore back to before downloading the two XP mode files. Virtual Machine is enabled in BIOS and the MS tool verifies that. The event viewer has many red errors and some of them say ....Windows update could not be installed because of error 2147942413 "The data is invalid." (Command line: ""C:Windowssystem32wusa.exe" "C:Windows6.1-KB958559-x64-RefreshPkg.msu" ")I am running Win 7 Pro 64 bit with SP1 and all updates since 1-1-11. The Mobo is ASUS M5A88-M with AMD FX-4100 and 8Gb RAM. So far this is the only problem I have been having with software and the PC was put together last weekend.

I've tried looking but the official site has no drivers that I can use, as it says that the drivers come with the OS.

Missing Data After Full Install From XP

Aug 3, 2012

His system have 3 partitions, 2 of which (drive D and E) are dedicated to data. About 2 months ago, he did a full reinstall of his XP system and upgrade to 7. After sometime, for whatever reason, he downgraded his system back to XP. On that system, he did some work and added 50gb+ data to the data partition.Today, he reformatted the C drive and install 7 again. The funny thing is, the 50gb+ data he added when on XP now missing. All other data is intact. In fact, the state of the 2 data partition is like when he last use 7 before downgrading to XP.just to be clear, all his data partition is intact after today's 7 install, only those data (contained on several folders) he added when on XP is missing.

Backing Up Data Before A Clean Install?

Mar 10, 2012

i own 2 HDD's one for installation and a media drive. Last time i reinstalled i had huge issues gaining permissions to my media and ended up deleting about 600gb of data. After recently trying out windows 8 i was stupid enough not to data my data and thought win8 would install onto a partition i made for it. I recovered my windows 7, but encountering lots of problems, so i think its time for a clean install. Is there a way to keep my permissions on my media drive for my new install? I don't have an external drive.

Preserve Data On A New Windows 7 Install?

Feb 10, 2012

basically, I'm currently using 2 hard drives. A 160gb ide drive and a 1 TB Spinpoint F3. I'm going to be doing an upgrade tomorrow, and when I do, I want to switch to just using the one TB hard drive as my only drive. The issue is that I've got about 400GB in stuff I'd rather not lose. Primarily Steam games that would take me months to download again without pushing my monthly download limit too much.Basically, I want to know if there's a way to install windows 7 onto this drive without losing the data currently on it. I know that when I originally upgraded my current drive from XP to windows 7, I got a windows.old folder that seemed to have a lot of my data in it. Is it possible to do something similar when doing a fresh OS install without one already being present? If not, my only real alternative would be a TB drive my dad recently purchased, but it's for a laptop. I'm not entirely sure how to connect it to my computer, but I could figure that out, but I'd like to find a way to do this without an external if it's possible.

How To Install Windows 7 On Portable TBHD Without Data Loss

Jul 5, 2012

My desktop pc crashed, and after some investigation it turns out that the main hard drive is probably dead... So I thought I would install Windows 7 onto my portable terabyte. Anyway when I tried to install Windows 7 onto my hard drive, I realised 2 things:

- Windows will clear my TB HD when it installs.
and
- Windows cannot install onto a USB device.

I need to install windows 7 on my portable hard drive without removing any data on it. I have tried to partition my hard drive with easyus as a friend recomended, but it says I need to convert it to a logical, and I cant do that because it says something about clearing the HD.

Changing Default User Data Folders During Install?

Dec 12, 2011

I build, and then support many computers for my friends and family. I have recently started making them feel a bit more "manufactured" by using a factory-style recovery option (press F9 at boot to enter recovery / uses a hidden recovery partition etc...).

The issue I have though, is I often get asked to "wipe" someone's computer following a virus/malware infestation (and yes, I do supply AV, but that isn't always enough).

So, I use Sysprep to install all additional software, drivers etc... but the one problem I have is that I like to have, and usually always configure PC's to store items like Documents/Pictures/Music/Videos etc... on a seperate partition.

The problem is, when I configure this in Sysprep - the settings are lost when the user completes OOBE.

Ideally, I do not want to move the entire "Users" directory, I just want the libraries to never look at any folders on the C: drive, only the ones on D: (D:\%USERNAME%Documents etc...).

I want it so that when files "detect" where to save, it locates the appropriate directory on the D: drive, so they dont have to always manually locate the folders.

The reason I dont want the entire "Users" folder on D: is that following a restore or 2, it will get messy...

I would like to either automate this during setup, or would happily take a manual approach during Sysprep - as long as it applied these settings to all users as and when they are created.

I would like the cleanest way to do this, ideally without junctions/symlinks.

Clean 64bit Install In New PC But Still Access Old Vista32 Data?

Jun 22, 2012

i intend to do a clean install of Windows 7 64bit. i currently have vista32 on my primary 500gb hd. i want to move my data onto my secondary 320gb hd so that i can clean install on the 500gb ... but i still want to access the data on the 2nd (vista32) HD.i want to use the Windows 7 HD in a new pc i have built. so:

1. how best to move my data to the second HD so that it can be read by the primary?

2. will there be a problem reading the second HD in a new set up (mobo, cpu etc)?

3. should i format the 500gb and then put it in the new setup then do the clean install?3b. if i should do that - should i partition it first?

Windows 7 Install Combined The Old Partition, Wiping All Data?

Sep 11, 2012

I installed two new 120GB SSD drives into my system. Previously, I had two 1TB drives in a RAID 0. After doing a performance test to see if there was a speed increase, I also bound the two new 120Gb SSDs into a NEW RAID 0.The idea was to use the new, faster array for windows, and whatever programs I am currently using, and then use the old array for storage. I could install windows on the new drives with So, I proceeded to install Windows 7 on the new array, leaving the old array alone. Installation went without a hitch. I looked at my new drive under My Computer- 1.98 TB. NOT the 240GB partition I just made, and NOT the 1.74 TB partition I used before the new drives. It, for some reason I cant fathom, combined all 4 drives, encompassing BOTH arrays, new and old HDD and SSD into one partition, and had installed windows OVER TOP OF ALL MY DATA.I dont know WHY this happened, but what do I do now to get my data back? I tried starting the computer without the new array, but it wont boot. I need my data back, and I need to get windows installed on the new array, the way I wanted.

Ensure That All The Short Cuts For The Programs And Data For The User File Will Run Smoothly On The Fresh Install?

Jan 17, 2012

I'm reinstalling Windows 7 onto my 32GB OCZ SSD boot drive. In addition to that drive, I have a 1TB media drive and a 1TB drive that holds my user files as well as all my programs. I can't seem to figure out how to ensure that all the short cuts for the programs and data for the user file will run smoothly on the fresh install. Is there anything I should do before nuking the SSD and anything additional that I should do after the install or just treat it like a fresh SSD/HDD install but use the already existing user data? tl/dr: Reinstall windows on boot drive (SSD) and retain users folder/program files on separate HDD? edit: creating a clone image and using that won't work here, the actual OS files are bad

How To Install XP Mode In Windows 7 ?

Dec 1, 2008

Windows XP Mode or XPM is a very useful feature which allows Windows 7 users to run a pre-configured virtual machine with a licensed copy of Windows XP Service Pack 3. This allows users to run old applications in Windows XP mode directly from Windows 7 therefore eliminating the need to have both operating systems installed. This feature helps eliminate many issues, especially in corporate networks which use a lot of old software. In this article I will show the following: when is Windows XP Mode useful, which are the prerequisites for installing it, how to install it and how to configure its installation.

Install XP Mode Drivers

Oct 25, 2009

Do I need to install hardware drivers in XP mode also. I have only took a quick peek at it as of yet so haven't checked the device manager to see what is says.

Update: It shows alot of Intel devices for my LAN and vid card when they are not Intel they are both Nvidia stuffs. And why is it auto hiding the IE8 update? I clicked to restore but did not install it but when I went back after the reboot from the other updates it hid it again...is there a reason for the hiding of this update? I most likely will rarely ever use XP mode since everything I use worked with Vista and when I get everything installed again on 7 I don't think I will have too many problems.
