View 14 Replies View RelatedWindows XP Mode or XPM is a very useful feature which allows Windows 7 users to run a pre-configured virtual machine with a licensed copy of Windows XP Service Pack 3. This allows users to run old applications in Windows XP mode directly from Windows 7 therefore eliminating the need to have both operating systems installed. This feature helps eliminate many issues, especially in corporate networks which use a lot of old software. In this article I will show the following: when is Windows XP Mode useful, which are the prerequisites for installing it, how to install it and how to configure its installation.

Update: It shows alot of Intel devices for my LAN and vid card when they are not Intel they are both Nvidia stuffs. And why is it auto hiding the IE8 update? I clicked to restore but did not install it but when I went back after the reboot from the other updates it hid it again...is there a reason for the hiding of this update? I most likely will rarely ever use XP mode since everything I use worked with Vista and when I get everything installed again on 7 I don't think I will have too many problems.
I have tried installing & uninstalling xp mode and vm 4 times with new downloads again and again to no avail. i have tried to install xp mode first and get the error 2203...I have installed vm first and then xp mode with the same result. Error 2203 on the web seems to be related to an installer problem yet I have installed many programs with no errors at all.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my machine to an AMD Sempron II X3 720 Black Edition. I've enabled virtualization in the bios. I've gone and downloaded the following two files from Microsoft's Virtual PC web page:
Windows6.1-KB958559-x64.msu - the Virtual PC installation
WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe - the virtual PC XP Mode file
I've installed both files but nowhere in my menu do I have a Windows Virtual PC folder to launch into Windows XP mode.
When I go to the C:Program FilesWindows XP Mode directory, all I see is this:
A folder called Tutorial
KEY.TXT
VXPEULA.txt
Windows XP Mode base.vhd
But nowhere do I have an icon in my start menu Virtual Windows XP shortcut.

I've entered the esupport but found my self a bit confused when i went into the "Software & Drivers tab" it wanted to know if the windows 7 was a 64bit? Another problem i find my self on I'm not sure what steps to take to properly install the AV Mode so i can get the Capture button along with the remainder AV Mode functions to work since they are currently not working.I did not see were on the esupport site it would give me download/install AV Mode?

I must fight against several problems on one of my mobos because of its incorrect BIOS code, essentially for long time boot BIOS and very buggy S3 sleep mode. However, when I read many posts about people who have installed their Windows 7 x64 in UEFI mode, I'm afraid of some new problems that UEFI causes, according to these people, even during a Windows session, even if installation was fine.I would like to know your experience about UEFI, on motherboards which support it (my motherboard is an Intel DG45ID which proposes UEFI boot).

View 2 Replies View RelatedWell, I've done a lot of research (googling) on whether or not to install Windows 7 on my solid state drive in AHCI or IDE sata mode. I wanted to confirm it with you guys to make sure I got this straight before I go ahead and install Windows 7.
If I install windows 7 on my solid state drive in sata mode ahci then later I can go to IDE if I wanted to by just switching it in bios. But if I install windows 7 under IDE mode then ill have to do a registry value change to make windows 7 work in ahci mode.
Everyone seems to have a different opinion on whether or not ahci mode is faster or worth it over IDE mode for windows 7 on a SSD. I'm not all that interested in hot swapping so thats not a interesting feature for me. I'm looking for reliability as a top priority.
the only way I can accurately portray my predicament is via numbered flow chart:
1. Wake up sleeping computer, nothing happens, starts humming faster and faster, so I pull the plug.
2. Turn on computer, goes through the ASUS screen, then the mother board screen has some weird pixelation on the left scree, like some lines or something. Windows is loading....then black screen forever. do this 1 or 2 more times.
3. Go to System Repair and System Restore. Repair fails and tells me a Boot Driver is failing. Restore fails each time.
4. Hold F1, go to boot menu, hit F8, select Safe Mode. Safe Mode works, fantastic.
5. Do AVG Defrag, Disk Clean, and Disk Repair. Then restart...now I get a blue "Dumping Physical Memory" screen.
6. Go back to Safe Mode, use boot disk, tell it to un/re-install windows.
7. Come back later and find it in Phys Mem dump loop, pop it into Safe Mode again. I then see two Windows 7 OSs to choose from, pick the bottom one. Says it can't complete installation in Safe Mode, restart it normal, Phys Dump loop.
8. I do the same thing for the top Win 7 choice, same thing.
9. I've back up all my files, and have drivers/boots disks for everything I own. How do I wipe my hard drive and start fresh?
I have a machine that's been flakey for about 2 months. It was fine, running Win7 64bit Home Premium just fine for 2 years. I upgraded the video card about 6 months ago and had no problems. Then, about 2 months ago, it would randomly stop responding. Mouse movements still worked, but buttons clicked wouldn't do anything. I could be running a Microsoft Security Essentials scan and it would just not progress. No malware scanners run from DVD found anything. I did the Kaspersky Rescue disc, and the Windows Defender Offline disc. Nothing was found.I assumed my HDD was dying, so I bought a new one (wanted to upgrade anyways). I took out the old HDD and put the new one in. I did a clean install of Win7 from a DVD I burned. The Win7 install goes perfectly. However, after the first login, I get the same problems after about 8-15 minutes. The machine just stops doing anything. The mouse still moves, status bars cycle but nothing completes. I can't open IE, can't kill anything from Task Manager, can't do anything with the mouse or keyboard that actually DOES anything, if that makes sense.
The weird thing is that the machine is perfectly stable in Safe Mode with Networking (other Safe Modes are also stable). It can run for a week straight in Safe Mode, connect to the internet, write word docs, etc. No errors, no warnings, no odd behavior. When I try to then reboot and login to Windows normally, same problems as above.Do I have a strange hardware issue (video card, memory failing, power supply...???) or some BIOS virus that's survived the new HDD and clean install?I'm at my wit's end, and my wife wants me to call Dell, which I don't want to do I'd rather fix this myself. I'm not afraid of formatting or wiping partitions because there's nothing on the HDD.
Ordered a Dell Vostro configured specifically to run XP mode, along with Office 2010. Have received machine, recognize Office isn't installed for XP. Have reviewed several threads addressing issue. My question: I didn't want to purchase Office to run on Windows 7. Our server runs on XP, so that would be useless to me. Can't I obtain a license for what I purchased?

and windows 7 does not love me. Every time I install things look to be going smoothly, then on the first boot (and from then on) every time I try to access any admin privileges I get the BSOD usually from IRQ, or page memory or a number of messages and the computer immediately reboots. This isn't a problem when I'm in safe mode, but when I'm there it shows that all the hardware is installed and working. Even then safe mode only gives me about 2 hours before it BSODs again.
Does this laptop just hate windows 7 or is there something I can do about this?
I have spent two days on the web reading everything I can find on this subject and have tried many of the suggestions but simply cannot get this update to install. I even went to restore back to before downloading the two XP mode files. Virtual Machine is enabled in BIOS and the MS tool verifies that. The event viewer has many red errors and some of them say ....Windows update could not be installed because of error 2147942413 "The data is invalid." (Command line: ""C:Windowssystem32wusa.exe" "C:Windows6.1-KB958559-x64-RefreshPkg.msu" ")I am running Win 7 Pro 64 bit with SP1 and all updates since 1-1-11. View 3 Replies View RelatedCan someone hit me with a link for manually installing the AHCI driver and switching the OS mode for the storage controller.
If I remember right, this is just putting the driver in /sys/drivers, running a script, and making a registry change. Then you reboot, change the motherboard setting, and then install IMSM after the OS comes back up. I don't remember the script, or if it was just a reg edit, etc.
my computer, a Lenovo Idea pad P580 running on Windows 7, is 5 weeks old and yesterday I was using Microsoft Word to edit a document and Word suddenly crashed. So I closed it, but then the cursor started spinning and I could not access anything on my computer so I rebooted and it started up but then just trying to open Microsoft Word caused the cursor to keep spinning again and I could not access anything. So I again rebooted and this time it was spinning from the beginning. So I again rebooted and turned it on in safe mode and everything was fine. Then turned it off and left it off overnight. In the morning I tried to boot in normal mode and it did boot but it was again spinning and I could not access anything. So I again rebooted in safe mode and I can use my computer fine. And also, this is unrelated, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I need to do to make the scroll bar stop moving on its own? Every time I scroll down a page it seems to lock the scroll bar and so when I move the cursor away from the scroll bar, the scroll bar still moves and I cannot click any links or anything on that webpage.
View 6 Replies View Relatedthe computer I am concerned with is running Windows 7 with IE8, Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I am currently in Safe Mode with Networking without issue. The owner of the computer says that something happened earlier today while he was online that sounds like some false antivirus popup, but he's unsure. Here are the symptoms in normal mode. Every application, from moving through them to opening and closing them, runs exceptionally slow - one to three minutes to open, at least a minute to open internet pages. I noticed that, when in IE, as the pages are loading the IE page disappears and reappears. I am not very familiar with Windows 7 so I don't know if it is related. The computer seems to be getting slower as the day goes on. CPU usage is very high.So far, I have disabled many startup items that were unnecessary. I ran CCleaner and cleaned up. MBAM was run in both normal and safe mode, full scans, and found nothing. This is also posted in Viruses and Malware, but I'm unsure where it should live.

No matter what I was doing, Media, Excell, Word, it would freeze up and hang. Sometimes CTL_ALT_DLT would unfreeze it, even before the task manager appeared, but it will take 3-4 minutes with an o[ague screen and the progress "circle" moving then unfreeze, sork 1-2 minutes, freeze, etc. Then all clicks on something to activate would result in loooong (long) delays, 15 to 45 seconds, then the new screen or window or peogram would open, sometimes frozen up.This did not happen in safe mode.I have (on suggestions) removed all things from my start up or programs that other's have suggested, Google Update files, and three or four others that others had issues with that I found on the net. I have also removed programs that I had installed around then.
I have also run, in Safe Mode, MSE, MS Safety Scanner, MS malicious file remover, ESET online Scanner, my laptop is clean.I have used mscong to disable all non-microsoft items to see if that helped. It did not. Same issues.I have used startup repair, and after scanning received a message that there was a problem, but that it could not fix it, did I want to send a report to Microsoft, I checked yes and it sent me to System Restore, ran it for about a week ago which was when I had downloaded some software, and the problem still existed, which sent me back to System Repair, ran it, same error message, reported again.I used a Repair Disk to get back on the laptop a coulple of times when needed, but ultimately, the problem surfaced still.I have used ReImage Plus to rebuild all my defective Windows Files and a lot of my 3rd party defective files. And, I also did a Win 7 repair install.I am pretty convinced something is being loaded somewhere, but can't find where or who or what.Am I on the right track? Have I missed something? Am I wrong? I do not really want to do a clean re-install of Windows 7, for if I do I am reformatting everything to clean any and everything.... sort of NUKE it... but would rather find the culprit (for education purposes). And, I dislike installing and updating and setting up everything again more than I hate "boiled okra!"Anyone and Everyone that has had to do with this or similar sounding issue, please reply. I have two weeks invested, and would like to "graduate" resolving this and getting the learning experience of WHY?
