Windows 7 Safe Mode/Re-install Infinite Loop?

Aug 29, 2012

the only way I can accurately portray my predicament is via numbered flow chart:

1. Wake up sleeping computer, nothing happens, starts humming faster and faster, so I pull the plug.

2. Turn on computer, goes through the ASUS screen, then the mother board screen has some weird pixelation on the left scree, like some lines or something. Windows is loading....then black screen forever. do this 1 or 2 more times.

3. Go to System Repair and System Restore. Repair fails and tells me a Boot Driver is failing. Restore fails each time.

4. Hold F1, go to boot menu, hit F8, select Safe Mode. Safe Mode works, fantastic.

5. Do AVG Defrag, Disk Clean, and Disk Repair. Then restart...now I get a blue "Dumping Physical Memory" screen.

6. Go back to Safe Mode, use boot disk, tell it to un/re-install windows.

7. Come back later and find it in Phys Mem dump loop, pop it into Safe Mode again. I then see two Windows 7 OSs to choose from, pick the bottom one. Says it can't complete installation in Safe Mode, restart it normal, Phys Dump loop.

8. I do the same thing for the top Win 7 choice, same thing.

9. I've back up all my files, and have drivers/boots disks for everything I own. How do I wipe my hard drive and start fresh?

Crash On Install Now On Infinite Loop?

Dec 1, 2011

When I first booted it up, it began to do it's first time windows load, when I got a BSOD of 0x0000004E and it shut down. Upon restart I got to the point where it tells me " windows was interrupted upon installation, install will proceed after restart" it then restarts and does the same thing. If I shut it off and turn it back on I get the page on choosing to boot normal or in safe mode, but I never get the bios options, as I have the windows 7 SP1 cd that came with.

Windows 7 Stuck In Safe Mode Reboot Loop

Sep 23, 2012

My Windows 7 ultimate x64 is rebooting itself at the welcome/logon screen, in safe mode only. Normal mode is fine. The reboot happens instantly, after a few seconds at the welcome screen, the screen goes black and the system is rebooted as though I had hit the "reboot" button on the case, with no clean shutdown taking place. I am at a loss to know what could be starting in safe mode, that _doesn't_ start in normal mode, to cause this.

I have recently done a repair install of windows (the problem was there before that), I have tried replacing the safe mode parts of the registry with clean ones downloaded from an AV vendor website (mcafee if I remember correctly), and have tried doing sfc /scannow which resulted in a corrupted boot.sdi being replaced with the archived copy. None of these have fixed the problem.

Obviously, given that I have a usable normal mode, and good backups, this isn't the biggest problem ever, but it would be nice to get it fixed especially for the next time I need to fix a dodgy driver install or similar. What I can check next, particularly in regards to understanding the startup process and what will be loading at the welcome screen that might be causing the reboot.

Windows 7 Stuck In Safe-mode Loop CLASSPNP.sys

Oct 19, 2012

I went into msconfig on the work laptop and changed the boot to safe boot network, as soon as I went to boot up the laptop and get into safe mode, the laptop freezes at CLASSPNP.sys then I have to reboot.I need to get it to boot back into windows normally, but even selecting "Start windows normally" sends it to safe mode because I set it to boot there in msconfig. What can I possibly do? I've tried running start up repair but says it cannot repair the issue. Due to security, the laptop hard drive has been encrypted with truecrypt, and therefore when I put the OS DVD in to try and do something from the command prompt, there are no OS's listed as installed so cannot alter the bootmbr or any windows files.

Windows 7 Boot To Safe Mode - Now Stuck In Reboot Loop

Oct 13, 2011

I have windows 7 home premium 32 bit dell laptop. Lately, it takes more than 10 minutes before it boots before the windows logo appears). From there the computer works normally. I got a suggestion to check for malwares or viruses so that is what I did. I started by going to msconfig and edited the boot options to start automatically to safe mode with networking, then rebooted my system. After booting, it loaded up the initial screen of safe mode, but then it restarted by itself.

I am now stuck on this reboot loop going into safe mode, it won't even let me go back to normal mode. I went to startup repair, but it didn't find anything, so had to reboot again onto the same situation. I have searched for possible answers, and the best that I could get was to remove the safe boot options and go back to normal mode. The syntax to type was bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safe boot but it didn't work, same with bcdedit /deletevalue safe boot.

I am getting this : "An error occurred while attempting to delete the specified data element. Element not found."

Windows Restart Loop While Booting, Safe Mode Crashes

Jan 15, 2013

The problem is that when I boot my PC it will go black and restart after getting to the windows logo boot part. If I try Safe mode it will get to SYSTEM32DRIVERSDISK.SYS and then just bluescreens and restarts again. Before it got to CLASSPNP.SYS but I tried to rename it to CLASSPNP.OLD and now it didn't really change much. I also tried using this code but it just tells me that some files are corrupt and it cannot repair it.If I try the automatic repair option it will just try and repair for a couple of hours and then say it cannot repair and rebooting the PC.

Startup Repair Loop, Safe Mode Won't Work?

Feb 13, 2011

So I was using a program called TuneUp Utilities, and I used this function called the Disk Doctor to check for errors in my computer. While it was checking for errors, my computer shut down automatically and when I started it up again a black screen appears giving me the option to either load Startup Repair or Start Windows Normally. When I start Windows Normally, everything goes fine until I see the cursor. Nothing happens and then the computer restarts on it's own. I've even tried disabling restart on system failure but when I did that the computer just stayed at a dark screen until I restarted it.When I load Startup Repair, it searches for problems for like 5 minutes and then says it can't be automatically fixed. It says to remove all USB cables and everything (which I did but had no effect) and lets me have advanced recovery options. When I load advanced recovery options, all that appears is Startup Repair again. When I press F8 and do a Safe Mode, it starts up normally but once I see the mouse cursor the computer restarts.

Windows 7 Infinite Reboot Loop

Nov 6, 2012

Yesterday I was installing XP on one of partitions I made for it,because I had problems recording stereo tracks for studio on Windows 7( in my previous encounters like that,it worked on XP ).After installation of XP it would restart and just give Unable to load operating system and I couldn't boot in Windows 7 because as most of you probably know,XP overwrites boot section of Windows 7( but that's an easy fix with EasyBCD ).Now I tried fixing the problem with Windows 7 installation DVD and startup repair but no use, then I tried MBR tutorial and it got me to splash screen, but that's where my infinite loop started. Then I tried doing backup with command prompt as in one of tutorials here: Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery but no results unfortunately. Or am I going to be forced to do clean install? I temporarily installed Windows 8 Release Preview on XP partition just so I can do stuff until Windows 7 is fixed.

Windows 7 Infinite Bluescreen Reboot Loop

Aug 16, 2011

My original os is windows 7. So today I connected a hard drive from a windows xp machine so I could transfer some files. When I powered the computer back on I got a blue screen right after the windows 7 loading screen and the computer rebooted. I then got the black screen asking if I want safe mode last known configuration or start windows normally. I chose start normally and i got bluescreen/rebooted back to this screen. I then chose last known good configuration and was bluescreen/rebooted back to the screen, this time I chose safe mode. Safe mode began to load files and then stopped at mup.sys bluescreened and rebooted. The system then tried to do the windows repair thing and I did the system restore option and rebooted, this didnt help and I put in my windows 7 installation cd hit repair and tried bootrec.exe, none of the options worked [fixmbr fixboot etc] and the system doesnt recognize that any OS are installed.

Installed MSE - Windows 7 Infinite Reboot Loop

Sep 11, 2012

So I decided I wanted to try Microsoft Security Essentials for some reason. I uninstalled Avast and all traces of it. I installed MSE and everything went smoothly. I noticed it was setup to automatically scan every Sun. night. I left it that way. Monday morning I wake up to the infinite reboot. Because of the aforementioned I am 95% sure it is software related, but maybe that is because I don't want to spend money on new hardware right now.

I've tried every safe mode. I've tried to load the last known good config. I tried to repair with my Win 7 disc, but it always restarts itself before I can get anything done. I also tried system restore and also reformatting with the disc, but I get no more than a minute once I've started the computer. I've also tried scheduling memory and system checks at startup but they never get a chance to run.

My system:
Win 7
i5 2.67 ghz
hitachi 500gb hd

Dell / Windows 7 Stuck In Infinite Boot Loop?

Jun 16, 2011

A Dell Inspiron E1705, w/ 2x2gb mem, 500 gb hd, ATI Radeon x1400 vid and Win 7.There were no Dell drivers or programs and the system BIOS was ver A01. Checking the Dell website against the Service Tag, I found 22 drivers and programs specific to the computer. Most of them ran and installed under Win 7 with no trouble. The last one was the bios flash utility program to update the bios to ver A10. The bios flashed, seemed to go ok. But on system reboot, after the initial screem about resetting the memory sticks, the computer is stuck in an infinite reboot loop.It loads the initial POST screen, completes the POST, seeks for its boot device and when it finds and starts to access the installed HD it reboots. I have reset all the bios settings to factory default settings. I have pulled the system battery and "cleared the cmos", but no joy there. I have created a bootable usb flash drive with another Dell laptop, and the computer will boot from that. I have other bootable cd's, and the computer will boot from them. I can use the bootable cd's to determine that the programs they run (freeware backup programs and a copy of bart pe) can access the installed hd,and see the files there, so the installed hd is intact. But i still can't get the computer to boot from it.My first thought was to reinstall the ver A01 bios, but it would not complete the process and remained at ver .A10. I was able to flash bios A09, and then A07, etc, all the way back to ver A04. But after that I could go back no further, A02 and A01 flash utilities returned an error message. If I found some compatible mem sticks and a smaller hd, installed them, could I reflash bios ver A02 or A01? Would that do me any good? (I have 2 x 256 mg mem sticks from a dell inspiron 5100 which I upgraded to 2x1gb, and a 40 gb 2.5in hd that also came out of the 5100, so I could use those parts in the e1705 to reflash the earlier bios)

Windows Update KB2639308 Causes Infinite Startup Loop

Mar 17, 2012

on March 13, the "tuesday windows update packet" started updating my system automatically. It auto downloaded the updates (which I didn't realize it was even updating) It seemed to be hanging on the shut down screen. I came into the room about 2 hours later and Windows was still shutting down (actually it was on the blue screen that says, shutting down) Not knowing that the computer updating, I shut the computer off by hitting the power button because I thought it was weird it didn't shut down 2 hours earlier. I have read other posts where people also experienced this same scenario... the update seemed to freeze the computer at shutdown. The next day I tried to boot up... and the computer would not boot to the desktop, even in Safe Mode. I tried to do a system restore, system repair, etc. to dates before March 13... even Feb. 28th... but system restore did not work.

After 5 hours of trying various entries into the command prompt... I found this one that worked.:

dism.exe /image:<drive letter>: /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=<drive letter>: /offwindir=<drive letter>:Windows BUT... my problems aren't totally clear yet:

I was able to load back into the desktop with almost everything functioning properly. Once the computer loaded back up to the desktop... I checked windows update and 5 of the updates failed. So, I started to update them one by one, which they did successfully... except one. The last update on the list, which is a Windows 7 x64 critical update KB2639308... still isn't updating properly and... it causes the infinite startup loop if I try to update. I read on Microsoft Answers that several others were having the same exact problem as me... the first time they downloaded the update, it froze their computers at the shutdown screen for hours and hours, they turned off their computers and got stuck in the infinite startup loop. Also, when it goes into the infinite loop, and I run Startup Repair, the diagnostic passes all tests except it does say this: Startup repair Diagnosis and repair details:

Boot critical file h:windowssystem32
toskrl.exe is corrupt.
Repair action: File repair
Result: Failed. Error code = 0xa

It'll say that it's rapaired and it will restart but then it will go straight back into doing it over and over. Can someone please answer this quickly because finals are next week and I have unfinished papers and websites and animations on my computer that need to be handed in pronto.

The Usual Suspect, Infinite Reboot Loop

Aug 6, 2010

I'm building a computer myself and I can't for the life of me get windows 7 to install. Here is my configuration and what I've tried..

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard Rev 2.0, BIOS version FA
Processor: Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz 8MB LGA 1366 L3 Quad Core Desktop Processor - BX80601930
Memory: Corsair XMS3 6GB DDR3 SDRAM Memory Module - 6GB (3 x 2GB) - 1600MHz DDR3-1600/PC3-12800 - DDR3 SDRAM 9-9-9-24 version 2.3a

Power Supply: OCZ Technology GameXStream 850W ATX12V & EPS12V Power Supply
ard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS 500 GB - Hard Drive Bulk
Graphics Card: GALAXY 70XKH3HS8GUX GeForce GTX 470 Graphics Card - PCI Express 2.0 x16 - 1.25 GB GDDR5 SDRAM
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders OEM
Case: Cooler Master HAF 922 RC-922M-KKN1-GP Chassis - Mid-tower - 10 Bays Black

What I first did to install: I change the bios to boot from the Optical Drive Put the Windows 7 CD into the optical drive.Follow the on screen instructions for the windows install. Windows copies the files, extracts and installs. The system reboots. When Windows attempts to start for the first time the windows logo comes up and does its animation. The system then reboots. The screen comes up that tells me windows didnt start properly and do I want to try safe mode, etc etc. If I do safe mode drivers scroll until it gets to disk.sys. At this point it freezes for a minute or two and reboots.

Things Ive tried:

I have pared down to 1 stick of 2 GB of the ram
Ive tried using both of the other sticks of ram (individually) in case I had a bad stick
Ive tried with an older ATI PCI video card in case it was a video card compatibility issue
Ive tried reformatting and deleting the system partition and reinstalling
Ive tried reformatting from another working computer and reinstalling
Ive tried many windows repairs, often it says it cant fix it, or tries something and restarts.

Once it was repairing disk errors and it did that in about a minute. Didnt work. Othertimes it gives me a failure during setup, tries to fix it, didnt work.Ive reset the bios to optimized Ive tried manually changing the multiplier of the ram in the bios. fter about 25 -30 reboots bios resets and repairs it finally looked like it was working, did some more installation stuff, restarted, and started the damn reboot sequence over and over Now when I run in safe mode the last line to come up is Loaded: windowssystem32driversClasspnp.sys Looks like it made it a step farther, for no reason, I really didnt change anything except repeated attempts. Many more attempts at repairs and resets havent gotten any further.

Formatted HD / Infinite Boot Loop - BootMGR Missing

Jun 4, 2012

Basically what originally happened was that I tried installing windows 7 off of my hard drive and during the "completing installation" phase the computer lost power and was shut down. Turning the computer back on iIhad a screen which said something of the likes of set up is starting. From then on I was in a infinite boot loop where it would give me a set up screen and restart. I desperately needed to backup my files which I did not bother to do so.

I used my secondary desktop running vista, plugged in my other hard drive and backed up all my files successfully. I thought I would format the disk since I was done backing up all my data and I would go right on ahead and install a fresh windows 7 via the CD. I go into bios and set the windows CD to boot and I unplug my vista hard drive and leave only the formatted 1TB HD plugged in. And now I get the "BOOTMGR is missing" error. As I have read it's due to deleting everything off the hard drive including the...bootmanager.

Now with the tools that I hold (mobo with bios access, windows 7 installation CD, another hard drive with Vista). How shall I go about getting my hard drive ready to install a fresh copy of windows 7. I have the retail cd, I have another HD with vista if needed, and I have the clean hard drive which i would wish to install windows 7. I set my bios to boot via the CD first and put in the disc and let it work it's magic, I would like to point out that it still gives me a BOOTMGR error. It asks me to press a key to load from the CD and then I get the error that I know is coming.

New Laptop / Old Hard Drive - Infinite Loop On Startup

Aug 2, 2012

The screen cracked on my old laptop and my insurance decided it would be cheaper to give me a new one as opposed to fixing it. The new laptop arrived today, along with the hard drive from my old one. I thought it would be simply a case of opening the new laptop up, taking out the hard drive and putting in my old one (note: I turned on the laptop with it's new hard drive first to make sure it worked ok).

However, after doing this and turning on the laptop, I am faced a message saying "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.". I am given 2 options, Launch Startup Repair or Start Windows Normally. Clicking Start Windows Normally just brings me back to the same screen, and I've tried running the startup repair several times to no avail. Following the instructions at Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery also does not solve the problem.

Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Infinite Loop

Dec 14, 2012

I have the Asus A55A EB71 (although I can't find it on Asus website itself, probably known under another name) So long story short, this is what I did that is causing my current problem:

F8 Boot, repair mode, restarted during the middle of "loading files" (yes, I know, bad idea) If I try the safe modes or repair, it says windows is loading files, then it says to repair etc etc (recommended), and start windows normally. Start windows normally sends me to Reboot and select rproper boot device.

Anyway, I get the reboot and select proper boot device screen. I checked BIOS, boot option 1 = "windows boot manager...", #2 = dvd, so not boot option priority issue I tried F9 Boot (to do this: URL], however, only option is Windows 7, and windows memory diagnostic.

The laptop did not come with a recovery disk, nor did I make one. I had a system restore file on an external hard drive, but I just formatted the drive today for a Mac thinking, "hey, I never have those problems, I'll just make a system restore when I get home."

What can I do? It's a relatively new laptop so i can factory reinstall, although I dont know how. I tried this: [URL], but there is no recover windows to entire HD option.

New HDD And Clean Windows 7 Install Only Stable In Safe Mode?

Sep 4, 2012

I have a machine that's been flakey for about 2 months. It was fine, running Win7 64bit Home Premium just fine for 2 years. I upgraded the video card about 6 months ago and had no problems. Then, about 2 months ago, it would randomly stop responding. Mouse movements still worked, but buttons clicked wouldn't do anything. I could be running a Microsoft Security Essentials scan and it would just not progress. No malware scanners run from DVD found anything. I did the Kaspersky Rescue disc, and the Windows Defender Offline disc. Nothing was found.I assumed my HDD was dying, so I bought a new one (wanted to upgrade anyways). I took out the old HDD and put the new one in. I did a clean install of Win7 from a DVD I burned. The Win7 install goes perfectly. However, after the first login, I get the same problems after about 8-15 minutes. The machine just stops doing anything. The mouse still moves, status bars cycle but nothing completes. I can't open IE, can't kill anything from Task Manager, can't do anything with the mouse or keyboard that actually DOES anything, if that makes sense.

The weird thing is that the machine is perfectly stable in Safe Mode with Networking (other Safe Modes are also stable). It can run for a week straight in Safe Mode, connect to the internet, write word docs, etc. No errors, no warnings, no odd behavior. When I try to then reboot and login to Windows normally, same problems as above.Do I have a strange hardware issue (video card, memory failing, power supply...???) or some BIOS virus that's survived the new HDD and clean install?I'm at my wit's end, and my wife wants me to call Dell, which I don't want to do I'd rather fix this myself. I'm not afraid of formatting or wiping partitions because there's nothing on the HDD.

HP Dv9000 9930us - Constant BSOD After Install Only Works In Safe Mode

Oct 27, 2009

I've got:

HP notebook a Pavillion dv9000 9930us
4 gig DDR2 SDRAM
Nvidia Geforce 8600M GS
320 gig HD
Was: Windows Vista Home Premium x64
Now: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

and windows 7 does not love me. Every time I install things look to be going smoothly, then on the first boot (and from then on) every time I try to access any admin privileges I get the BSOD usually from IRQ, or page memory or a number of messages and the computer immediately reboots. This isn't a problem when I'm in safe mode, but when I'm there it shows that all the hardware is installed and working. Even then safe mode only gives me about 2 hours before it BSODs again.

Does this laptop just hate windows 7 or is there something I can do about this?

Windows 7 Runs Extremely Slow In Normal Mode, But Nicely In Safe Mode?

Aug 1, 2011

the computer I am concerned with is running Windows 7 with IE8, Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I am currently in Safe Mode with Networking without issue. The owner of the computer says that something happened earlier today while he was online that sounds like some false antivirus popup, but he's unsure. Here are the symptoms in normal mode. Every application, from moving through them to opening and closing them, runs exceptionally slow - one to three minutes to open, at least a minute to open internet pages. I noticed that, when in IE, as the pages are loading the IE page disappears and reappears. I am not very familiar with Windows 7 so I don't know if it is related. The computer seems to be getting slower as the day goes on. CPU usage is very high.So far, I have disabled many startup items that were unnecessary. I ran CCleaner and cleaned up. MBAM was run in both normal and safe mode, full scans, and found nothing. This is also posted in Viruses and Malware, but I'm unsure where it should live.
