View 9 RepliesEveryone when i press personalize when i right click on the desktop it will show explorer.exe unspecified error.. and in control panel/appearance and personalization the icon "Themes" is gone.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the .exe for 7 Home Premium from the UK Ultimate Steal site. It says it's preparing setup1.box, but eventually it gives me an error message saying "Unspecified Error".
The .iso is equally annoying, I burned it to a DVD and tried to get my laptop to boot from the DVD drive. It waited a moment and then booted from the hard drive. I burned to a different DVD and attempted to boot from DVD drive, it did the same. I then tried to boot a DVD containing Ubuntu. This booted perfectly fine.
I have an unspecified error 766f6c756d652e63 3f1 (yes there is a gap before the 3f1). I have tried but the above error occurs. HDD is C: drive NTFS system. Reason I'm worried is that sfc /scanow returned nothing, but windows backup returned quite a few lines similar to the following....
- Windows Backup skipped C:UsersxxxxxDocuments because is it on corrupted drive C:.
- Windows Backup skipped c:UsersPublicvideos because is it on corrupted drive C:.
- Windows Backup skipped c:UsersxxxxxAppDataLocalLow because is it on corrupted drive C:.
i am trying to create a restore point in my system but everytime i am getting this message: Error message was: "System Restore" did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed."Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore (0xc0000022)." i've even run System File Checker [SFC] and scan it but it shows that there is no integrity error. but after that while creating a restore point same error message was there. so,how should i create a restore point?

Running Win 7 Home with all latest updates. Why can't I access all Windows 7 functions in normal way, yet I can access them directly by a workaround? I recently found that I could not access the administrator functions for computer management on my home computer. For instance, when right clicking on the main "Computer" icon on my desktop and selecting "Manage" I would get an unspecified error. Going in through control panel I could not access many system admin tools and when I try I get error of you may not "have the appropriate permissions" This applies to "Services" "Component Services" "Computer Management".
Workaround: Today I found that I can open the administrative tool folder in Explorer directly and then right click on one of the management functions and select "Run as Administrator." Then it let's me in OK and I can control things. It's only the usual ways of accessing these controls that I can not now do. This is my personal computer and I'm logged on as administrator, the only account on the system, AND it is telling me I can't access all the files on my own computer's hard drive that you normally use to manage win 7. It's not networked files I'm trying to use but my own Win 7 computer's hard drive, e.g. I get the error when I click on own Desktop Computer Icon and select "Manage."
I keep getting Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found error whenever I try to connect to any other computer (running windows 7 ultimate) on my network. I have another computer with windows 7 ultimate that does not have this problem. Firewalls are disabled on all computers. Computers all ping fine. Can ping by name too. If I try to connect via IP address, I get Error Code: Error0x80004005 Unspecified error.

Forget the folders name)and replace it with another one(Directions for the cheats said to make sure that winhttp.dll was in sys32) and while trying to do that windows would not let me so I read somewere that there is a program that lets you "take ownership of a file" so you can override permissions. I then took ownership of sys32 and maybe the 64bit folder as well. It still did not let me replace any files in sys32 so I then restarted and when windows opened again, desktop loaded then an error message came up, then it restarted itself, and repeated, but after the second time it restarted itself windows would not load. After the Acer manufacture screen, just the blank black screen with the blinking line.I have tried everything, cant seem to figure out how to even get it to open in safe mode. Only thing I can think of would be to use the restore disk which I dont have. Is there a way to legally make a restore disk on another PC to be used on the broken laptop?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI started a chkdsk on a Windows 7 64bit computer that got stuck at startup repair. Before that though, I was looking around, the damage seems to be the windows files got messed up after an update. My computer data was intact when I looked around booted through a recovery cd and I checked again via a ubuntu live cd. My question is that the chkdsk d: /f apparently stopped in the middle and gave the following message:An unspecified error occurred <6672732e637878>Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50What does that mean? Is it terrible? I just restarted the chkdsk anyway and as of now, it is finding less unreadable segments, but is there a risk of data loss?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having an annoying problem on my notebook. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. My specs are;
Sony Vaio E series notebook
M460 CPU
8 Gb Ram
120 Gb Sandisk SSD
ATI HD 5650
An external 5.1 Creative sound card (USB)
And a 2TB 3.5" hard drive constantly hooked up.
My problem is, I leave the computer on its own for some time, while browser, music/video player, e-mail client vs. normal applications are running, because I need to go outside or due to any reason. When I get back after some time, I press a button to active the screen (I do not use any sleep or hibernation mode, or HDD switch off timeout. My PC constantly works), I get the screen but after a few seconds my pc freezes. The mouse also. It responds to nothing for an unspecified amount of time. I press buttons, move the cursor, try to click things but the screen just freezes. After some time (which varies in every freeze like this) my notebook starts to respond and act normal.
Interesting thing is, during a freeze I press the Windows button, and when the freeze is over, the notebook jumps up the start menu. It's like it freezes but also records the given commands during freeze. I tried setting an animated screensaver, but no difference. I return to the notebook, I press a key and it freezes again. The freezes go on or varied times, from 30 seconds to several minutes. Another interesting thing is when I leave a torrent program on, I don't encounter such freeze. It also happened right after a clean Windows restore.
New computer windows 7. Lexmark Z52 printer. Devices and Printers calls it an unspecified device and could not locate drivers. I went through the steps and did Windows Update and it found the drivers. I have tried unplugging, power off, computer off and reboot. Reboot with USB plugged in, reboot with USB unplugged. A whole host of attempts with no success. My old computer was 7 also, and I was able to find a generic fix. It was a driver (bullzip) I thought, but cant get that to work either. All I need is basic printing for check writing and regular Word stuff. No photos or graphics printing.

Possible error here in Windows Explorer (build 7100 X-64)
Expanding Computer in the window on the left doesn't show the 2 installed CD / DVD devices but only the "Virtual Device" created by UltraISO.
Double clicking on the computer shows all the devices as shown in image 2.
UltraISO or Windows prob? Not a real "Show stopper" but I would like the system to be correct.
They told me that there were a lot of updates that were recently applied and I'm wondering if one of them was an optional driver update provided from Microsoft for his printer. When you go into Devices and Printers the printer is shown but it isn't considered a printer, with the icon for it falling under "Unspecified" (see attached screenshot).I've seen BSOD's result from drivers for wireless adapters and video cards that were delivered via Windows update before so the first thing I tried was to go to HP's website and download the basic driver from their website, a very small download. Installation appeared to be successful and for a moment appeared to fix the problem because a queued print job started to print. But when we tried to print something else the system said there were no printers installed to use again. Also for a brief moment the printer (as well as a couple of other soft printers like the Fax option and Microsoft's PDF maker knockoff; can't remember what it's called) did appear for a minute with the green check mark over the correct printer icon. It looked like it was fixed for about a minute but then reverted back to what you see in the screenshot without any interaction from us.

I am running Windows Seven Professional 64-bit and Windows Update isn't showing any more possible updates.
My computer is a Dell Precision M90 laptop with a Intel Core2 Duo 2.0GHz processor.
Problem:
When I use Windows Explorer to open files that are associated with the program SolidWorks I receive the message: "There was a problem sending the command to the program."
I am running SolidWorks 2010 Professional SP0 which is a 3D modeling program for mechanical engineering. The program ran under XP without this issue.
I only receive this message if there is not an instance of SolidWorks running. Even after I receive this message, SolidWorks still loads and opens the file I selected through Windows Explorer.
This problem occurs no matter where the file is located (network or local).
This problem doesn't keep me from getting my work accomplished, but it is a bit of nuisance. Any help that anyone could offer would be much appreciated. I'm including a screen capture of the message.
Few weeks old HP PC, Windows7 Home Premium, 64 Bit
Still fighting my problem with Windows Explorer shutting down periodically,
every 1/2 to 1 hour, fixing itself, and restarting. Really annoying to say the least, as the re-starts wipe out a few of the icons in the notification area of the Taskbar at bottom. Takes about a minute or so for the"re-fixing" to be accomplished.
Anyway, some of the error msgs in the Event Log had ATI mentioned.
Thought this might be a problem with my ATI graphics card.
There are two Users on PC, and the other user says he never, ever, gets any of these error messages, so it's hard to see that it's a graphic card problem, as the card, I would think, is active irrespective of the user. True ?
This morning the error message were different.
It said: "the Device detected a Controller error onDeviceHarddisk5DR5"
I will past the error descr. below.
Is this my main PC HD ? I only have one.
But I do use External HD's for backups.
Think the HD is about to quit ?
Have so many error msgs, that I was wondering if there is any way of opening my Event Log (viewer) to all on-line so you experts can have a peek at it? Other than posting one or two descriptions here, posting them all doesn't seem practical.
Any suggestions ?
my computer won't let me go on Internet. it will say there is something internet explorer is not working and a whole bunch of internet tabs would pop up saying error. do i have a virus?

This was annoying but at least I could access my files to copy photos etc.
Today when I try to open it, I get an error saying "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information"
It comes up with this and then shuts explorer down, and everytime I do this I get the same. I have tried to access it through all the user accounts and get the same thing each time.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Win 7 RC onto my Fujitsu Lifebook and am receiving the above error repeatedly when trying to use Internet Explorer (also get similar error for Windows Explorer). When the error appears it lists the "process name" (iexplore.exe or explorer.exe), "Module name" (eg mshtml.dll - this varies) and "assert offset" (eg 004DEB6E - also varies) along with 3 buttons "Ignore Once", "Ignore Always" and "Do not ignore".
If I select "do not ignore" the windows error reporting process kicks in but does not find a solution and will ocassionally restart IE or kick me out completely. Selecting "Ignore Once" will often lead to a number of similar popups with either different module or assert offsets.
I have gone through device manager to ensure all my drivers are properly updated and have also tried to reinstall to no avail.
Not sure if it is connected but Windows Update does not appear to find any updates either even if I try and install Office 2007 and look for updates to that (I know it should find SP2 at least).

how to change the default back to the "Open" option?
