I installed a HP printer with the driver that i used for Win XP, it didn't work, i came to find out that for my printer (Deskjet 3820) to work on Win 7 i have to use the driver for a similar HP printer.Now for that to work i have to remove my previous printer that appears listed on the unspecified devices only i can't seem to do it!How do i do such a simple task? Remove an unspecified device? Completely?
View 3 RepliesNew computer windows 7. Lexmark Z52 printer. Devices and Printers calls it an unspecified device and could not locate drivers. I went through the steps and did Windows Update and it found the drivers. I have tried unplugging, power off, computer off and reboot. Reboot with USB plugged in, reboot with USB unplugged. A whole host of attempts with no success. My old computer was 7 also, and I was able to find a generic fix. It was a driver (bullzip) I thought, but cant get that to work either. All I need is basic printing for check writing and regular Word stuff. No photos or graphics printing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedOkay so whenever I need to remove my USB flash drive after updating some excel files, it won't allow me to remove it safely. It tells me that the device is currently in use and that I should close all programs but there aren't any programs opened. I can only remove it by going into the library and right click on the drive and select "Eject".
This only happens if I modify a file on the drive.
Have you noticed that when you requst to safly remove a "disk on key" you get the o.k to remove msg but the light on the device stays on (unlike xp where the light turns off)

View 3 Replies View RelatedFor quite some time I have been unable to to eject any USB/external hard drive devices that I have plugged into my computer. Using Process Explorer I've looked at the processes that are interfering with being to be able to eject devices.
Even if I do not have any files or programs open from that device, each one will have two explorer.exe processes running. However when I use find handle with Process Explorer on my main external hard drive there are these several processes running.

I am able to Close Handle on the explorer and svchost processes, but when I try on the system ones I get an error message reading, "Error opening process: the handle is invalid".

I have bought a Bluetooth keyboard for my PC (running a Windows 7 64bit OS) and while I am able to successfully install and pair the device, I find that each time I either switch off the device (or PC) and switch either back on again I cannot re-establish the connection unless I remove the device and re-install and pair it once more? Surely it isn't necessary to have to follow this procedure every time I wish to use it...or is it?

Some of the USB's I just look at to see what was on them before trying to remove them. View 9 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the .exe for 7 Home Premium from the UK Ultimate Steal site. It says it's preparing setup1.box, but eventually it gives me an error message saying "Unspecified Error".
The .iso is equally annoying, I burned it to a DVD and tried to get my laptop to boot from the DVD drive. It waited a moment and then booted from the hard drive. I burned to a different DVD and attempted to boot from DVD drive, it did the same. I then tried to boot a DVD containing Ubuntu. This booted perfectly fine.
Still trying to find out why the Ports, Coms, etc don't show anywhere in Device Manager. I noticed an old Post where it said to look in add/Remove Hardware. Where do I find this Add/Remove Hardware option? There was also a Post to check the BIOS for this and to see if PORTS is set to Auto. How to have the Ports show up in Device Manager.

Before you say I can list boot devices in bios I know this, the problem Is UEFI and Legacy my UEFI system is not secure boot and for whatever reason I have to F9 and manually select usb or dvd legacy, some versions of linux will not boot otherwise.

Over the course of the last year I have dual booted several version of linux, but it seems that linux mint and ubuntu add entries to my UEFI boot sources list...how do I remove them, the list is getting to long, and currently only windows 7 is installed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having an annoying problem on my notebook. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. My specs are;
Sony Vaio E series notebook
M460 CPU
8 Gb Ram
120 Gb Sandisk SSD
ATI HD 5650
An external 5.1 Creative sound card (USB)
And a 2TB 3.5" hard drive constantly hooked up.
My problem is, I leave the computer on its own for some time, while browser, music/video player, e-mail client vs. normal applications are running, because I need to go outside or due to any reason. When I get back after some time, I press a button to active the screen (I do not use any sleep or hibernation mode, or HDD switch off timeout. My PC constantly works), I get the screen but after a few seconds my pc freezes. The mouse also. It responds to nothing for an unspecified amount of time. I press buttons, move the cursor, try to click things but the screen just freezes. After some time (which varies in every freeze like this) my notebook starts to respond and act normal.
Interesting thing is, during a freeze I press the Windows button, and when the freeze is over, the notebook jumps up the start menu. It's like it freezes but also records the given commands during freeze. I tried setting an animated screensaver, but no difference. I return to the notebook, I press a key and it freezes again. The freezes go on or varied times, from 30 seconds to several minutes. Another interesting thing is when I leave a torrent program on, I don't encounter such freeze. It also happened right after a clean Windows restore.
Running Win 7 Home with all latest updates. Why can't I access all Windows 7 functions in normal way, yet I can access them directly by a workaround? I recently found that I could not access the administrator functions for computer management on my home computer. For instance, when right clicking on the main "Computer" icon on my desktop and selecting "Manage" I would get an unspecified error. Going in through control panel I could not access many system admin tools and when I try I get error of you may not "have the appropriate permissions" This applies to "Services" "Component Services" "Computer Management".
Workaround: Today I found that I can open the administrative tool folder in Explorer directly and then right click on one of the management functions and select "Run as Administrator." Then it let's me in OK and I can control things. It's only the usual ways of accessing these controls that I can not now do. This is my personal computer and I'm logged on as administrator, the only account on the system, AND it is telling me I can't access all the files on my own computer's hard drive that you normally use to manage win 7. It's not networked files I'm trying to use but my own Win 7 computer's hard drive, e.g. I get the error when I click on own Desktop Computer Icon and select "Manage."
I keep getting Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found error whenever I try to connect to any other computer (running windows 7 ultimate) on my network. I have another computer with windows 7 ultimate that does not have this problem. Firewalls are disabled on all computers. Computers all ping fine. Can ping by name too. If I try to connect via IP address, I get Error Code: Error0x80004005 Unspecified error.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhilst uninstalling software, drivers etc., from a computer laptop that is to be reissued to another employee with no such requirements, in "computer" its still showing a device marked in "other" category, descibred as Motorola phone system folder, the folder icon is marked with the bluetooth logo, so it has to be someting to do with the pairing / syncing that the phone did when connecting to the laptop. However, if you right click on the folder in an effort to disable or delete it, Windows explorer hangs and restarts. There is no reference left to Motorola in any of the program files or updates or in the Windows system folder, even with show hidden files selected. No reference in Device Manager either. It could be a registry issue, but I know nothing about registry editing and am not even going to try unless someone has a rock solid approach to offer on it.System Restore is out as this is a new account profile that was set up and the old one deleted.

Last night after trying to install some files to make some cheat programs I use for an online game (I have loaded same programs 10x on other computers so I doubt its related to the programs themselves) One thing I did do was try to delete a winhttp.dll file in system32 or the WOW one(for 64bit computersorget the folders name)and replace it with another one(Directions for the cheats said to make sure that winhttp.dll was in sys32) and while trying to do that windows would not let me so I read somewere that there is a program that lets you "take ownership of a file" so you can override permissions. I then took ownership of sys32 and maybe the 64bit folder as well. It still did not let me replace any files in sys32 so I then restarted and when windows opened again, desktop loaded then an error message came up, then it restarted itself, and repeated, but after the second time it restarted itself windows would not load. After the Acer anufacture screen, just the blank black screen with the blinking line.
