Safely Remove Hardware And Eject Media - USB Device Currently In Use
Jan 13, 2012
I've had a Windows 7 computer for several days now. Every time I want to remove a USB from a slot, I do the 'Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media'. But it then tells me "This device is currently in use. Close any programs or windows that might be using the deice and then try again. Some of the USB's I just look at to see what was on them before trying to remove them. The last one was when I did a 'Datasafe Local Backup' When I tried to remove it, I was given the "this device is in use message...'.
I very much know about using C:WINDOWSsystem32 undll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll to display the "Safely Remove Hardware" dialog window, but I'd much prefer to emulate the result of clicking on the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" icon in the system tray.
My icon for safely remove media is in the info bar, if shows what I have plugged in, but it has never disabled a thumbdrive (lite stays on thumb drives) even after I click to remove.
Okay so whenever I need to remove my USB flash drive after updating some excel files, it won't allow me to remove it safely. It tells me that the device is currently in use and that I should close all programs but there aren't any programs opened. I can only remove it by going into the library and right click on the drive and select "Eject".
This only happens if I modify a file on the drive.
Have you noticed that when you requst to safly remove a "disk on key" you get the o.k to remove msg but the light on the device stays on (unlike xp where the light turns off)
i have just upgraded my pc with new cpu amd 8350, graphics card asus 7970 and sabertooth 990fx motherboard and corsair ssd 480gb drive.i did not install theses items and i have just got it all back. i noticed that in the safely remove hardware and eject media icon is showing and when i click to see what it was its show as my ssd drive which is my os drive.
I have a laptop HP PAVILION tx2550er. After installing AMD AHCI driver in the system tray shows the Safely Remove Hardware icon (my hard drive). How to remove (not hide!) the icon?
I have a USB modem for wireless internet. It is listed in "Computer" and in "Devices and printers", but not showing on the Safely Remove Hardware list. It was showing in Vista. I have a 7 Ultimate x86 newly installed with not too many programs (some AV, etc.). going into "Devices and printers", right clicking on it and choosing option for removing. I don't have this option.
I have a HUAWEI USB modem for my wireless internet. It doesn't show on the Safely Remove Hardware list. It does show in the Device ManagerDisk drives as aD Storage USB Device, also in Devices and Printers and in Computer. It was showin
Does anyone know how to remove the "safely remove hardware" icon in the taskbar? I do not mean hide it. I have my icons always show in the notification area because I don't like the arrow icon either.
I am running Windows 7, and I connect several external HDDs via a USB hub, leading to the PC on a single USB cable. I have recently installed Windows, and from the start, I have had problems ejecting the media. Here is how it goes:I plug in the disks, they are all functioning, they show up and can be used.I want to eject them so I can disconnect the cable. I go to the system tray, and must click the "show hidden icons" arrow to see the icon for "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media"; I click it and choose one of the disks to eject. Upon doing so, the disk ejects, and I remove it.At that point, the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" icon moves to the main system ray area (not hidden)--but from this point on, it does not work. No matter how I click or right-click, there is no pop-up menu, no reaction at all. Right-clicking on each drive in the "Computer" window does not reveal any option to eject the disk safely.
I recently installed Windows 7 and it's working great so far. But there's one tiny little thing that's been bothering me. There's an icon for Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media, but the problem is that it's for my Samsung internal SATA hard drive! Is there any way I can stop it from telling me it's okay to eject it? Or hide the icon itself?
I'm having a little problem with safely removing any of my external hard drives that I connect. The USB icon will show in the taskbar and when I place my mouse over it, it says Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media. But when I click it, it won't show the external drives to eject. I have even tried to the eject option by right clicking my external drive in my computer. But the eject option is not there anymore. Can anyone help me with this
I have not used any special techniques for removing a usb device, I use backup drives, flash drives, printer, and scanner plugged into a usb hub, I've never done anything more than just unplug the device from the usb hub, for the backup hard drives I do unplug their power source then disco their usb connection but other than that I never use or consider to make sure I get a okay to remove the usb device. I am using Windows 7, all three versions on three different computers, what is all the hype about to use the "safely remove usb device"?
I cant find the safely remove hardware icon in customize notification area, its not even on the list! and when i found advice online for how to find it -
rundll32 shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll
the search turned up nothing!
can someone tell me what to do or where to find it in my system? why should i have to download a free program online for safely remove hardware when it should be on my computer?
I have a small issue with my USB port. When I connect my external hard disk to the usual USB ports I normally use. It would show the "Safely remove hardware" icon but however, there is one USB port I could connect it and use it to play my external hard disk but doesn't show the "Safely remove hardware" icon.
I'm using Win 7 64 bit on a Vaio laptop that's less than a year old. Recently I'm having problems safely removing flash drives, portable drives and other devices. The SRH icon appears in the tray, but nothing happens when you click on it. Trying to eject from My Computer often doesn't work either, as the "eject" option is simply missing from the context menu.I tried an idea I found on the MS forums, of creating a shortcut to the Safely Remove dialog, but that doesn't work either.(Shortcut to: C:WindowsSystem32 undll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll) -- on at least one device, it claims the portable hard drive is not a removable drive.
My safely remove icon in the taskbar disappeared after moving it into the "hidden box" and there seems to be no way to reset it - which is strange because every other taskbar icon can be reset. I got a shortcut to the safely remove dialog window with RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll , but that does not reset the icon. How to get the icon back?
i wanted to know if there is a safe way to remove magicjack after using it. i just use it once a week. when it has not started there is an option in the taskbar to remove is safely but once it is started it no longer appears there. so once i am done using it i just close it and pull it out of the usb port (is this safe) i was searching about this on the net came across a video on Internet, this guy had 2 icons of magicjack in my computer where as i don't have any. i am not very good at computers, just managed to install windows 7 a few weeks back, after using xp for years.
The Safely Remove Hardware function isnt working on my machine, It was previously working & now doesnt respond to any clicks or commands even though the icon is still visible in the taskbar.Has anybody else had this problem or has anbody else found a solution to this rather annoying glitch
Just got windows 7 32-bit. I'm stuck on is that no devices are being shown in the Safely Remove Hardware Dialogue box. I know I have a device in..it's my MP3 player which I have just copied songs over too and I can play them. There is no icon in the systems tray either. I then looked around the web and found a page showing how to create a shortcut on the desktop to activate the dialogue box.
Point target to ":C:WindowsSystem32 undll32.exe shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll"
Created it, got the box up but no devices showing in it when the mp3 player was plugged in. Pulled out the mp3 player without removing safely first as didn't know how....not ideal.
