Change Motherboard - Will Win 7 Works ?
I have a question about Windows re-activation.
If I change a motherboard/cpu in an Dell PC, will I still be able to use Windows 7 on that computer? I know that I can get the drivers loaded ok in safe mode, but will I need to re-activate Windows 7 to get it working again?
I read something a long time ago about hardware changes and activation, but I don't know if this will happen in this case. No big deal if I just need to ring up, but I wanted to check it wouldn't just break.

Change Motherboard And Cpu In My Computer
I am trying to change the motherboard and cpu in my hp computer. The new motherboard is an ABIT AN-M2HDÂ with an AMD 64 processor. The old machine has an Intel Pentium 4 processor. The hd is a Hitachi 1td and running Vista. I also have a Western Digital 250gb that I am trying to test with. I have installed (clean) Vista on the 250, but have corrupted it by all the things that I have tried to do. I also tried to migrate all of the files, folders, documents and apps with the batch file provided in the video. I would like to get the motherboard and cpu installed and then install windows 7.

Should Win 7 Works On All Computers ?
I my self believe that we should update our hardware to follow new operating systems instead of trying to make new OS works fine on our 2,3,4 years old computers...One of the reasons i built a new system is to be able to run up-to-date windows systems. Will not go far with that but luckly my windows 7 working like charm and IE8 is working also perfect since i installed the os on c drive as main os. I would like to know if bugs are 100% system failer or it has to do more with hardware issues as well! How can some body be sure about! I my self can amost tell but shouldnt microsoft offer users a very clear notice about the compatible hardware they built windows 7 on-for example.

Boot Menu Shows 2 Win 7, Only One Works
Had beta on my machine. Worked fine. I used the windows xp instal disk, repair function (R) console to make a new Master Boot, and I deleted and reformated the partition Beta was on. Thus, I was cleanly prepared to instal Windows 7 RC.The installation went without incident other than a fine install. It works as smooth as the Beta did, but strangely the bootup OS select window shows two incidents of Windows 7, meaning the Beta select did not clean out of the new boot up screen. So, if I select the wrong one nothing's there. Really not a big issue, but if you the reader has the knowledge that can rid my machine of that "wrong" windows 7 entry and are willing to share it with me, please, please do.Once again, at boot up I have three os selections to chose from: XP (works fine), Windows 7 (works fine), and another Windows 7 (no workee). My intention is to remove the one that doesn't work. Please, how do I do that?

Vista Certified Motherboard Drivers Compatible With Win 7 ?
I have a Foxconn A76ML-K motherboard and i have not been able to find it's Windows 7 compatibility. The product states that it is Vista Certified and I bought it new off of Newegg early this year. The socket is AM2+. Does the Vista certification automatically make it Windows 7 compatible, or do I have to research further?

Win 7 64x Reinstall - XP Mode No Longer Works
XP mode was running fine on my Win7 64x (build 7100) box, until I uninstalled Norton 2010 (beta). The OS became very unstable after I outed Norton, I reinstalled the OS and now I can't reinstall Virtual PC / XP Mode. I get a message from the installer that says "The update is not applicable to your computer" when I run "Windows6.1-KB958559-x64.msu". When I use Microsoft's "havdetectiontool.exe" tool, it says "this computer meets the processor requirements to run Windows Virtual PC." Has anyone else had a similar experience and been successful with work around?

Avermedia A800 USB DVB-T Works And Does Not Work In Win 7 X64
During the install process Windows 7 automatically installs a driver for the Aver A800 DVB-T receiver. The Aver TV program itself (the Vista x64 version) works with Windows 7 ... (everything ... watching TV, recording, programmed recording, etc.) The Win7 Media Center itself is able to find the receiver (connected via USB) but crashes every time when looking for channels. The crash results in a bluescreen or simply a system freeze (something I never saw in Vista ;) ) Does anybody know if you have to do something special to make it work with the MC? Is this a USB-receiver problem with Windows 7? A friend of mine reports the same issue with another USB DVB-T receiver (Terratec Cinergy S USB)?

ATI Card Works Fine In Win 7 Ult RC, Not In Win7 Prof
I've been using the Windows 7 Ultimate release candidate as an evaluation copy for a while now with no problems. I have an ATI radeon mobility X1600 graphics card in my laptop and I'm using an external monitor through my laptop's DVI port. I bought a product key for Windows 7 professional and therefore had to reinstall that version because I'm using Ultimate as the evaluation copy. I have each version on its own partition so I can switch back and forth between the two. The problem is that the newly installed windows professional copy will not recognize my ATI graphics card and I can't use my external monitor. It has the standard windows VGA adapter drivers installed. I've installed and run the ATI file i downloaded off their site, '9-9_beta_win7_32_dd_CC', and this accomplishes nothing. I looked in device manager on the working ultimate version and the card is installed correctly so I copied all of the drivers and files it says its using and then tried to update the driver for the standard windows VGA adapter and it says it can't find any better drivers than the current ones. I remember initially having this same problem when I first installed the Windows 7 Ultimate RC several months ago but I have no clue how I was able to get it to work... Any ideas?

Change Win 7 Beta Key
Okay, before I got and activated my MSDN membership I downloaded the public beta for Win 7 and got a key thru the regular process. Anyway now that my MSDN membership is activated when I go to the software downloads under OS/windows 7 it offers me a new key number that is totally diffrent from the one I origonally got when I downloaded the public beta 7000. Should I change my activation key to the new number or just wait till the RC comes out? I know how to go in and change the key but don't want to do it if its going to mess something up.

Change Win 7 Drive Letter Using Repair Install ?
I had a dual boot with XP and RC, which I upgraded to the RTM. I then deleted the XP C: partition, and moved the RTM E: partition over into its space, recreating the boot using Startup Repair and verified everything with system file checker, chkdsk and HDD surface test. My intention had been to do a clean install when I got my Win7 Ultimate Signature Edition with the party pack, however I like my installation as it is and plan to license it by inserting the activation key. Is there a way I can do a repair install (upgrade over OS) to change the E: drive letter to C:? I suppose there is no real reason why I cannot have my only system drive be E: (is there?), but I'd prefer to have it lettered C: if there is any possible way to do this short of a clean install, which I dont' want to do.

Win 7 Wont Detect My Monitors Or Allow Me To Manually Change Drivers
I'm running RC 1 32 bit on a pre-historic Asus A6U notebox with 1.6 ghz Turion and two gigs of RAM, and am really impressed with it overall. However, it doesn't seem to detect either the built-in monitor (15.4" LCD) nor an external Philips 170S LCD monitor which I am also using, and loads default drivers (it has both a default PNP and non-PNP driver installed). My video card is SIS M760 and Windows 7 informs me that the driver is up to date. I have tried installing the Philips 170S driver but it doesn't get associated with either of two screen which appear when I set screen resolution, nor am I able to replace or update the driver at that point. My Philips LCD shows colours a little strange - blacks sometimes have a tinge of red or green - which I suspect must be the lack of the proper driver. I also have tried various combinations of deleting the drivers and rebooting the computing, with or without the external monitor connected, but am unable to associate the Philips driver to the external monitor. My Philips drivers ended up under "other devices" in the device manager. When I try to calibrate the color on my Philips monitor I get the message that says it can't determine if the display is morrered... and so can't calibrate. Is there any way I can delect all monitor info and force an install of my Philips driver on my external video?

Win 7 / Vista Security Change - Add TCP/IP Printer Port ?
I have been running XP SP3 and have now moved to Windows 7 Enterprise. I have noted that I can now as a standard domain user, with no administrative privileges on the computer, add a printer specifying the creation of a new TCP/IP port!! I can also go in to Print Server properties and remove it! Has this been the case with Vista too? How/why has this been made possible and is it controllable?? Is there a list of little changes like this that have been made?

Works On One Computer, But Not The Other
When I try to install, I get an error in the beginning after the initial web update, every single time... It says something about not having all the files available for installation? How is that possilible if I can succesfully install it on my other system? Any help is GREATLY appreciated. I am also installing the CD on an external DVD/RW drive, since this old PC does not have a DVD drive installed. It also does not support USB 2.0. (1.0 only) By the way, Windows 7 on my laptop has been running great! But my PC used to run 100 times faster with Windows XP. Is there any way I can get my PC running with Windows 7 just like my laptop, and even faster like before?

No Codecs Works
I'm having some trouble with media center, and actually also other video players.. I've been trying for some time to get media center running, but I keep having trouble with the codecs. I'm running win 7 build 7100. First I installed ffdshow and used the MCDU to get media center to use ffdshow, and it worked. But then suddenly out of nothing about a week ago it didn't work anymore. When I tried to play a video-file I got the decoder error from media center telling me th-at the codec isn't working or isn't installed. It's all types of video files, avi, video_TS and so on. I then tried to uninstall ffdshow and install it again, but it didn't help. I then tried to uninstall again and install a different codec-pack. Didn't help. I have tried to install many different codec-packs but nothing helps. Then I tried to play the video files using other media players. When playing video files in VLC the picture is kind of pixellated, doesn't look good at all (it's like watching the picture of Ripley's daughter as an old woman in Aliens if you remember). I can't find a solution to this problem as I don't know what is wrong.

Old Hardware How That Works ?
I had some discussions with some of my customers about Windows 7 and it's requirements. Main question were all times: "Did we need to change our hardware?" or: "Is an hardware upgrade needed?" So, I played a bit around with older hardware for expamle: 1.: NEC Mate 17GA. It's an japanese NEC with 1.7 GHz Celeron Processor and came original with 512 MB Ram, 40 GB HDD and XP Pro installed. Computer is from year 2002. I upgraded the memory to 1 GB and 160 GB HDD with 2 partition, each 80 GB, that's all. Installed XP pro again, and was need to downlaod all drivers again, not one was working directly. Installed Windows 7 7077 on the 2. Partition and all drivers were directly installed and working. Boot time from XP: 3 min!! Boot time from Windows 7: 1 min!! 2.: Sony Vaio Laptop year 2000, P4 3 GHZ and 512 MB Ram, 60 GB HDD. No any upgrade I had leave the system in its origin state. It had XP pro installed and the booting time was 2.5 minutes! Installed Windows 7 7077 as clean install and only system on HDD. Installation was need 49 minutes. All drivers were working directly and even the 512 MB Ram were enough. Ok, not for multitasking with more than 5 progs open at the time! The huge difference to XP Pro was: Boot time below 1 minute and the running with the same Office and Excel files, nearly 40% faster than XP! The above testing and outcome is showing very clear that Windows 7 is even faster than XP ever was! But it also shows, that the min System Requierements are less than MS told as needed! Overall the OS Windows 7 is working a lot more stable than Vista and XP. Even Software which were not able to run in Vista, like Windows Draw from 1991 or Ulead Image Pals from 1990, are working in Windows 7 very well. I still have an NEC Peti Scan Scanner (a small mobile Scanner) which was able to work max in Win 2000 and I like to check that scanner can work in Windows 7 as well because the driver is assigned for Win 98 as latest OS! Need to find the driver again because the CD is "dead"! But if I get the driver, I'm quite confident I'll get that scanner back to work. It's just a kind of fun for to do such testing! It also shows that the new MS OS seems to be a very relaible system. Maybe those of the readers of this forum, who were thinking about to upgrade or not, get some more ideas.

Network Works One Way Only
I've installed Windows 7 "release version" on my desktop, with two problems.  One is that the network only works in one direction. The laptop can see the desktop machine, and connect to its drives (including the USB backup one) with no problem. However, the desktop can't "see" the laptop in "Network".  If I go to Network and Sharing Center / See full map, then the laptop shows as it should. However, right-clicking it offers me 3 options: Open Media Player, Create shortcut, and Properties. Everything after that seems to think the laptop is a music folder. I've checked and rechecked file sharing (all seems OK - similar permissions to what is on the laptop). I'm leery of doing the wipe-and-install of the "release version" onto the laptop until I know what's wrong, just in case I lose the link to the desktop - which has the printers and the backup drives attached to it.

Will My Motherboard Support Crossfire ?
I have an Asus M4A785TV-V Evo motherboard. It has an integrated Hd 4200, but that is not used. It also has two PCIex16 slots, one of which has my HD5770 in. If I get a second HD 5770 and put it in the other PCIe x16 slot, will I be able to run Crossfire? The motherboard manual says that it supports Hybrid Crossfire between dedicated and integrated cards, but nothing about Crossfire between two dedicated cards. If it doesn't support crossfire, can I still put a second graphics card in and use it in the same way?
