But it doesn't want to let me drag and re order them? Am I being extremely stupid here or has this really been taken out of 7?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got a new laptop but it has windows 7. 1 of the extremely huge problems this operating system has is this absurd thing where you cant arrange your own files in the order that you want.Im not gna waste my time ranting on here as it wont make any difference, but it does astound me that microsoft would employ such thickos who were unable to create an OS that was capable of offering such a basic function! i followed the (this) registry-edit steps lastnight to enable free-positioning of my files (unawave. de/windows-7-tipps/disable-sorting-auto-arrange.html?lang=EN).I did it lastnight and it worked perfectly!I then turned my laptop off as it needed to install its daily updates, but when i restarted it i can no longer move my files around in my pictures/videos/or my music folders!Photo/video files in other folders can still be moved around freely, however as all my pictures and videos are saved by default into those 2 folders this causes me a huge problem!

Sometimes when I cant boot, the windows installation cant be found at all. Win keeps telling me to change the wireless USB to a faster one, and somtimes it drops out.I have updated all drivers lately, run chkdsk and scf / scannow : it finds files damaged, but cant repair.Even when I bought the PC it could not find the one of the HDs, I changed the ASA-connect-cables and it worked till now. most of the time the PC runns ok.

all the files are either .inf or with .nlp extensions.windows is running fine. but i want to get rid of the problems before they become a serious issue. I have a pre-installed OEM version of win 7 basic SP 1, and i have a HP G6-1117TX laptop. There is a drive named "System", which is the active and boot-able partition, and is not the same drive where windows is installed.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy computer was installing the latest updates for windows 7 professional 64 bit and the battery died during the shut down process, and now when I start the computer it will allow me to log in but when it hits the desktop it freezes up completely. I have tried using the system restore but somehow my restore points cant be found anywhere and when I tried using the system repair option on the installation cd it says it cant because the problem is unfixable. The error it says it has is in the boot sector and it says the error code is 0x45d, but when I ran it a second time it didn't say that. I really don't want to deal with pulling off all of my personal files and then installing a fresh copy of windows because that would be too much of a hassle, but if i have to i will.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had trouble with my machine starting. I've done all the advice the 7 Forum suggests, running start up 3 times...etc., and it will work for a day or two, then not start. Then if I hit the reset button a couple of times, it will go into the start up repair and I end up with this message:
Repair Action/ System files Integrity check and repair
Result Failed / Error code = 0x490
Time Taken / 700863 ms
I've run sfc from an elevated window and it says everything is fine.
yesterday i was watching a show on my computer (sony vaio) and it kept freezing and lagging and wouldn't restart so i manually restarted it. when i tried to turn it on it would say "starting up windows" but it would take to long and it would restart again with error repair. when i would load error repair it would say it's loading files but only a background screen would show and no files.

It has been doing this for HOURS! Can I simply turn it off and attempt a different method or will that make it worse? BTW: it came with zero discs of any kind when I purchased it new in July 2011. This is my work comp too and I can't lose the info that's on it.

I remember a couple of years ago I had this problem, I looked up a solution and was able to open the usb up by going through... aghh this is what I can't remember.
It's manually opening up the usb by going through some 'coding'-ish steps.
The screen I used to type in the coding was black, with white text. I think I remember typing in dmnt.mgt (Not exactly it but kind of like that??) Either way.. how can I open up my usb?
I recently installed ubuntu as a duel boot between my win 7 installation, and I then reset the MBR, as I prefer the windows mbr.
Now, I cant boot into linux, so my question is: Is it possible to add ubuntu to the windows mbr manually, and if so, how?
I though that using the Recorded TV section would be PERFECT for managing the movie series that i ripped from my dvd archives, but WMP AND WMC refuse to see them, even though I added their folders into the Recorded tv libraries.

Anyone else experience this with Win 7 Professional?
I am pretty sure that a virus cause this, right before my computer shut down on it's own my anti virus popped up and said that a Trojan was found but I didn't have to do anything. Then the computer shut down and when it restartrd started to load files and then go into startup repair, only it couldn't fix it. I tried a restore, but again it said that the startup files wern't there. I just quickly scanned the diagnostic details and noticed something that said "boot critical file C:CI.dll is corrupt".
View 8 Replies View RelatedOn the backup and restore management screen, it says backup cancelled. I had setup on a regular weekly schedule. Go to manage backups, I see backups through out 2011. The last one 12/2011. The last backup field says Neveryet backups exist. Short of it, I cannot find the reason backups would not run. Windows has an extremely poor ability to view just what is going on with backups. Assuming it might be a space issue. I deleted all but a few of the last backups in manage backups, and reset the schedule so backups would run overnight. This morning, same results, backup cancelled. SoI clicked on Backup nowand it runs to completion successfully. The last back field was updated with todays date/time.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to create a custom shortcut and by custom I don't mean the way you usually create shortcuts at, but how you create it from scratch. Like open notepad and write down a script to make it work like an ordinary shortcut. The reason I want to do this is because I have a large collection of music and for the moment I have to open, first my music directory then choose the artist directory then the album directory and finally the playlist file. The way I want it is instead of getting into the album directory I would just have a shortcut in the artist directory that will open the playlist and start the music. And I would even want to have a custom icon on the shortcut. Now you will probably say just create a shortcut like you would normally do and then change the icon. DONE!No the thing is that when I re-install my computer or if I get a new disc with new drive letters or just move my whole music directory the shortcuts will be corrupted cause windows own created shortcuts has the complete file path like "D:DokumentEgna SkivorDeadmau5For Lack Of A Better Name0 For Lack Of A Better Name (Playlist).m3u". The way I want it is just "For Lack Of A Better Name0 For Lack Of A Better Name (Playlist).m3u"
