Scan Now Cannot Repair Files
Jul 12, 2012
I have disconnected one of my HDs for audiorecoding. Windows seems to try to boot from it from time to time. Sometimes when I cant boot, the windows installation cant be found at all. Win keeps telling me to change the wireless USB to a faster one, and somtimes it drops out.I have updated all drivers lately, run chkdsk and scf / scannow : it finds files damaged, but cant repair.Even when I bought the PC it could not find the one of the HDs, I changed the ASA-connect-cables and it worked till now. most of the time the PC runns ok.

I have Window Seven family on my laptop. It goes quite well. but doing some maintenance, I noticed that SFC scannow detected a problem.
From the log (sfc detail below) it seems to me that it is autotchk.exe is corrupted, both in Windows and in Windows backup store.I can however do a checkdsk which go fine, and do not detect problem (it seems to often be the case when the autochk.exe is currupted). So it goes well.As suggested on many thread, I redid many sfc scans, reboot and retry (seven times at least) without change. O course I did also many virus and spyware scan, both software and online, an the PC is clean, so it don't seems to be the problemI would like an easy remedy, as I don't want to spend days reinstalling Windows, software and settings, and as everything else seems fine.
1 -I was wondering it the autochk.exe is really to be changed, and if this is the only SFC problem. (I posted scan details)
2 -And if so, is this a way I can just copy Autotchk.exe from another PC running window (32 bits as the laptop, in Ultimate or Starter version (both at hand) and replace it in Window.OR to take it from a friend PC that have Seven Family (exactl like the laptop) And also should I change also both autochk.exe.mui which are in the same file or is it pointless ? Or, if not possible, where and how can I get an clean autochk.exe ?
3 - Or is the whole thing unecessary, and am I better to leave things as they are ?

I just reinstalled Windows and I mistook my C drive for my Windows.Old file and I highlighted everything and clicked delete even after I was prompted about system files. My machine is running fine and I'm getting no warnings but I want to know what files I deleted and if there's a way to get these files back without losing everything that I reinstalled. Is there a utility to scan for any missing system files?

I have run sfc/scannow in win 7, and have followed instructions to run sfc at boot in command prompt, but nothing has solved the errors. i have saved the file sfcdetails.txt to desktop, and have extracted only the problematic parts and saved it in another file problems.txt kindly check the file, as i have attached it here.
all the files are either .inf or with .nlp extensions.windows is running fine. but i want to get rid of the problems before they become a serious issue. I have a pre-installed OEM version of win 7 basic SP 1, and i have a HP G6-1117TX laptop. There is a drive named "System", which is the active and boot-able partition, and is not the same drive where windows is installed.

My computer was installing the latest updates for windows 7 professional 64 bit and the battery died during the shut down process, and now when I start the computer it will allow me to log in but when it hits the desktop it freezes up completely. I have tried using the system restore but somehow my restore points cant be found anywhere and when I tried using the system repair option on the installation cd it says it cant because the problem is unfixable. The error it says it has is in the boot sector and it says the error code is 0x45d, but when I ran it a second time it didn't say that. I really don't want to deal with pulling off all of my personal files and then installing a fresh copy of windows because that would be too much of a hassle, but if i have to i will.

running Win7 X64 having recently (2 months) transferred from XP. My Outlook pst files are in need or repair. I have used SCANPST.EXE on previous machines so am familiar with it. The problem is that the .pst files are stored, as it is the default location, within "/Users/Uername/Local Settings". This directory gives me the message "Access is Denied". I am logged in as adminstrator but am unable to see a way round this.

I've had trouble with my machine starting. I've done all the advice the 7 Forum suggests, running start up 3 times...etc., and it will work for a day or two, then not start. Then if I hit the reset button a couple of times, it will go into the start up repair and I end up with this message:
Repair Action/ System files Integrity check and repair
Result Failed / Error code = 0x490
Time Taken / 700863 ms
I've run sfc from an elevated window and it says everything is fine.

I have an Acer Aspire 5750-6677. I3-2310m. It has been performing the startup repair for over a day. It's now, finally (I think), saying "windows is loading files". It has been doing this for HOURS! Can I simply turn it off and attempt a different method or will that make it worse? BTW: it came with zero discs of any kind when I purchased it new in July 2011. This is my work comp too and I can't lose the info that's on it.

Anyone else experience this with Win 7 Professional?

I am pretty sure that a virus cause this, right before my computer shut down on it's own my anti virus popped up and said that a Trojan was found but I didn't have to do anything. Then the computer shut down and when it restartrd started to load files and then go into startup repair, only it couldn't fix it. I tried a restore, but again it said that the startup files wern't there. I just quickly scanned the diagnostic details and noticed something that said "boot critical file C:CI.dll is corrupt".

My laptop is in a homegroup with my desktop to do printer sharing and also remote desktop. Not sure when it started but both systems are booting very slow. So I ran the sfc /scannow. The CBS.log shows the errors that couldn't be fixed. Is there anyone that can help me fix the errors?Because I did an anytime upgrade doing a clean install is going to be a real pain and I am hoping with the log that I can attempt a fix rather than doing a clean install or system repair which both will require hours of doing. Seems if I understand the log that one problem is a printer issue, maybe?I don't want to post the log here and am not sure which forum I should seek help on.Both my systems are running Win 7 64 bit, Norton IS 2012, Malwarebytes, and I use CCleaner on a regular bases. Everything tells me I am free of any problems like viruses, malware, spyware and the like.

On my old machine with XP, I ran the HP specific drivers without issue and these drivers could scan directly to multipage pdfs. On the new computer with Windows 7, the generic HP PSC 1200 driver that is part of Windows 7 will not scan to pdf. It does the bmp, jpg, tiff, and png. And not multi page. Any way to get back the pdf capability without having to buy acrobat? I legally had the ability before the "upgrade".
