View 4 Repliesi'm trying to understand what these folders are for, they are on my non system drive, i'm guessing they are left over from a previous windows installation. when I try to remove them it says I have no permission to modify them. How would I go about deleting them?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer was installing the latest updates for windows 7 professional 64 bit and the battery died during the shut down process, and now when I start the computer it will allow me to log in but when it hits the desktop it freezes up completely. I have tried using the system restore but somehow my restore points cant be found anywhere and when I tried using the system repair option on the installation cd it says it cant because the problem is unfixable. The error it says it has is in the boot sector and it says the error code is 0x45d, but when I ran it a second time it didn't say that. I really don't want to deal with pulling off all of my personal files and then installing a fresh copy of windows because that would be too much of a hassle, but if i have to i will.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had trouble with my machine starting. I've done all the advice the 7 Forum suggests, running start up 3 times...etc., and it will work for a day or two, then not start. Then if I hit the reset button a couple of times, it will go into the start up repair and I end up with this message:
Repair Action/ System files Integrity check and repair
Result Failed / Error code = 0x490

I've run sfc from an elevated window and it says everything is fine.
I couldn't find Windows 7 Repair Disc / Repair System / rewrite MBR for x64?
View 1 Replies View RelatedCreated it with no problems, apparently at least. My BIOS is set to boot from CD drive, so why won't my machine boot from the system repair disk? There were no errors when disk was created. My machine just boots to windows.
Anyone else experience this with Win 7 Professional?
I've been having heating issues with my GPUs, they reach 60c on idle, and going around a few forums, I've noticed a services.exe in a few different places and a strange user, HomeUsers, who is not inherited and has special permissions which apply to "this folder only". When I go into change permissions, the option is greyed out. Anti-virus isn't picking anything up (McAfee) and a check disk showed nothing. Do I have a rootkit, and if so, what can I do?
View 2 Replies View RelatedGoogle Redirect/rootkit infection (See here), I managed to get more or less rid of the thing. After this, I have encountered a "c0000135 %hs is missing" BSOD just after the end of Windows loading that I corrected by modifying the registry following. So now my installation works properly except that no internet connection is possible. I've been trying to do it via ethernet, wifi and mobile phone tethering and it just doesn't works. No IP address displayed, even when I try to force a manual IP (normally everything is sorted out via DHCP) or flush all DHCP/DNS... infos, the diagnostic tool from Windows concludes to a possible defunct driver. I've got a clean installation of W7 x64 (same version, up to date) on another hard drive and of course, everything works well (it's from this installation that I managed to properly clean up the other one and modify the registry). Little detail : I uninstalled Zone Alarm in a not really proper way so it may be something with it too.

I was using dual boot (Windows 7 + vista)
wanted to remain only with win 7
formatted vista partition (don't know how I succeeded eventually...)
now, win 7 boots fine
but I still have the vista partition which is empty, except for BOOT FILES ON IT!!!! (win 7 partition does NOT have boot files or bootmgr).
when entering disk management, I cannot delete old vista partition (marked as system) but I really want to what should I do?
My work computer's hard drive is completely clogged up. I bought the Lenovo computer about a year ago, and it was working fine until about a month ago. Then I noticed that the hard drive was getting full, even though I haven't been doing anything different with it. We run our Quickbooks, our member database, and do light web browsing, spreadsheets, and word processing with it. Now programs aren't working because there's no drive space. I need to fix this fast, so I can have it working again on Monday.Earlier last week I defragged the drive, deleted extra documents, and emptied the trash can. I uninstalled unused and outdated programs that I recognized. Still, the drive kept filling up. I searched this forum, found this thread, and downloaded the recommended SpaceMonger onto a thumb drive. By using Spacemonger, I determined that over 90% of the drive space is taken up by "hidden" "temp" files. But it's not clear to me where they are, or how to remove them. How do I view and delete these hidden files?

Disk Clean Up has failed and other programs as well.I have observed that this particular behaviour happens mainly with .pps files. They remain on my PPS folder but with o bytes. How can I remove them from the folders?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a system that dual boots with Windows 7 (64 bit) and Windows XP (32 bit); each OS is on its own hard drive. I want to reformat the Windows 7, deleting the OS in the process. What I'm wondering is where is the boot loader located? Is it on the Windows 7 drive (since it was installed after XP), and will I need to do anything special to have the system load Windows XP by default after the Windows 7 installation is gone? Will the system simply detect the old XP installation and load it without the bootloader?

We just had some very heavy rains with lightening and my computer shut down several times, but I could restart it each time...except for the last time when Windows wouldn't startup. At that point, Start Up Repair came into play. Although I routinely backup on an external drive, of course I never did it this month-DUH!Results from SUR were error free (error code=0x0) on all the parameters tested, however there were the following error codes reported:"Unspecified change to the system configuration might have caused the problem." Something popped up and asked me if I wanted to download, and I wanted to say no, but my laptop's mouse is too sensitive at times, so I accidentally clicked yes. My computer automatically shut down right after that. Every time I turn it on now, it goes straight into System Repair and it doesn't work, it says it cannot repair. I've tried System Restore, but since that doesn't get rid of the documents that have been downloaded, it isn't helping either. My computer won't even let me enter any form of Safe Mode, it just goes straight back to System Repair.

A minute later it said the errors were fixed, and restarted the system for me. It then continued to do that and has been doing that every time I restart it.I tried logging in to safe mode but it just brought me into system repair.I tried to restore to an earlier point but the restore failed.I tried using a Windows 7 Reinstall disk and had odd results. The first time it said a file was missing during the expanding files. The Second time it got to completing install and then said the disk was missing files to complete and to contact the disk manufacturer. I'm currently running it one more time to see if I can get it to work. All I have plugged in is the mouse, the keyboard, and the monitor.
