View 1 RepliesI recently installed ubuntu as a duel boot between my win 7 installation, and I then reset the MBR, as I prefer the windows mbr.
Now, I cant boot into linux, so my question is: Is it possible to add ubuntu to the windows mbr manually, and if so, how?
When I connect my Android Tablet to the PC via USB, Windows 7 installs the wrong driver automatically. I have the correct driver in a folder but when I try to update in Device Manager > "The best driver for your device is already installed". If I uninstall the driver the device disappears from Device Manager. How can I locate the device & install the driver without Windows interfering
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've gathered all the parts for my new build but am not sure what order to tackle the software part. I'm confident I am able to strap it all together its only the tech stuff that scares me.
1. Strap everything together (minus graphics card)
2. Power on
3. Update bios via usb
4. Install windows 7
5. Do I update chipset and all other mobo drivers? or is windows update competent enough to do this?
6. Plug in graphics card
7. Boot up and install graphics card software.
Here's what I am working with:
P8z68 LX LGA mobo
i5 2500k
Sapphire 6850
Seagate 1tb HDD
Gskill value 1333 ram
Asus cd drive
Windows 7 Home
How can I manually download Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit updates to my hard drive/External Hard Drive?
I want to choose only those that I need so I can easily install them whenever I reformat my PC.
I'm not talking about a clicking the 2 boxes next to the close[X] button in the top right corner, I mean literally clicking on a side of a window and dragging it to enlarge it will freeze the system. I've also been having random freezing and random rebooting issues ( no BSOD) for the past couple of weeks and unfortunately haven't been able to dedicate enough time to diagnose the problem. I'm hoping the recent discovery of this very specific cause to a system crash will possibly lead to the culprit of my problems.- Ran Memtest86 - No problems found- Prime95 - Temps seems stable while its running but wont make it past the 5-10 minute mark before freezing.- Bios up to date- GPU driver is up to date (anything else need to be up to date driver wise?)- Tried switching RAM posistion between both slots, timings are within spec
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had Windows XP Pro running on my PC and I've installed Windows 7 using dual-boot.I want to create a command line BAT file that will allow me to change the default OS system before I boot. For example If I'm working on XP and wants 7 to start-up automatically then I'll execute the batch file and it will manipulate the boot info so that i won't have to select it, and if i work in Windos 7 and want to automatically restart to xp i will run another BAT file.I was able to do it in windows 7 using the command line bcdedit.exe application tha can control any aspect of the boot settings, but i couldn't find anyway to control the boot settings from within XP because the boot "belongs" to windows 7 and XP doesn't even "know it" or able to access it.
However I have a third-party application able to do that called VISTABOOTPRO, so i can assume it is indeed possible, but i want to create a simple one-click procedure to do it for me.
I've notice that Windows Update, after just installing the OS, gives you some optional updates, and those updates are the drivers for your devices, and it seems that if an update for that drivers goes out, Windows will let you know so if you want to download it you can do so. Now my question is, Is it better to go to the manufacturers website and download the latest driver manually or is it just the same to let windows search for it automatically and download them when there is an update?...

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I have a 16 GB Cruzer USB and it's not connecting, recognizing, nothing. Usually, the usb stick lights up, but it's not even doing that. I remember a couple of years ago I had this problem, I looked up a solution and was able to open the usb up by going through... aghh this is what I can't remember.
It's manually opening up the usb by going through some 'coding'-ish steps.
The screen I used to type in the coding was black, with white text. I think I remember typing in dmnt.mgt (Not exactly it but kind of like that??) Either way.. how can I open up my usb?
I though that using the Recorded TV section would be PERFECT for managing the movie series that i ripped from my dvd archives, but WMP AND WMC refuse to see them, even though I added their folders into the Recorded tv libraries.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer hard drive crashed a week ago and most of my back-ups went with the system. So, I got a new 500 GB drive and have been re-installing everything from scratch. I started with a clean install of Windows XP (service pack 2), which took forever to get all the up-dates done. Then I upgraded to Windows 7 and did the up-dates for that. I didn't make a recovery disk at this point because I wanted to get everything installed first.Unfortunately, the last time I went to reboot it failed. When I power-up the computer it stalls out on the Dell BIOS screen. I can't get into Safe Mode, Setup, or the Boot Menu because my keyboard and mouses are not working. They are both USB and none of my USB ports are working. (Also, I have not PS/2 ports on my machine.).
View 5 Replies View RelatedOn the backup and restore management screen, it says backup cancelled. I had setup on a regular weekly schedule. Go to manage backups, I see backups through out 2011. The last one 12/2011. The last backup field says Neveryet backups exist. Short of it, I cannot find the reason backups would not run. Windows has an extremely poor ability to view just what is going on with backups. Assuming it might be a space issue. I deleted all but a few of the last backups in manage backups, and reset the schedule so backups would run overnight. This morning, same results, backup cancelled. SoI clicked on Backup nowand it runs to completion successfully. The last back field was updated with todays date/time.

i already tried all the tips on how to re-apply the cool Windows 7 startup screen. but didn't work
already tried the bcdedit in command prompt and repair install. but no luck.

will manually replacing the files work? has anybody tried it yet?
Normally when i drag a picture or item over another, it will replace or take over its place, but when i use window 7, i can no longer do this. What is wrong actually?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to create a custom shortcut and by custom I don't mean the way you usually create shortcuts at, but how you create it from scratch. Like open notepad and write down a script to make it work like an ordinary shortcut. The reason I want to do this is because I have a large collection of music and for the moment I have to open, first my music directory then choose the artist directory then the album directory and finally the playlist file. The way I want it is instead of getting into the album directory I would just have a shortcut in the artist directory that will open the playlist and start the music. And I would even want to have a custom icon on the shortcut. Now you will probably say just create a shortcut like you would normally do and then change the icon. DONE!No the thing is that when I re-install my computer or if I get a new disc with new drive letters or just move my whole music directory the shortcuts will be corrupted cause windows own created shortcuts has the complete file path like "D:DokumentEgna SkivorDeadmau5For Lack Of A Better Name0 For Lack Of A Better Name (Playlist).m3u". The way I want it is just "For Lack Of A Better Name0 For Lack Of A Better Name (Playlist).m3u"

There are a couple ZIPs with a ton of files in them (setups, CFG setting folders, etc..) Then there are a couple Application Drivers (USB 3.0 driver, Ethernet Driver, Chipset Intel Driver)
I just built my PC from scratch and it posted just a couple days ago. I downloaded all of the very latest most important drivers directly because I didn't want Windows doing it.
