Windows 7 Welcome/shutdown/standby Animation Doesn't Work
Nov 16, 2012
the windows 7 welcome screen spinner isn't animating when I boot my computer or the shutdown spinner animation i have tried going into safe mode to see if that would fix it but no luck, I also tried sfc.exe.

I purchased 64 bit Windows 7 PC a couple of weeks ago. A few times I have found the machine on standby in the morning despite selecting 'shut down' the night before and I've just witnessed it start itself up after completely shutting it down half an hour earlier. It started powering up at midnight exactly not sure if this is coincidence, I've checked the task scheduler but there is nothing scheduled at all in it.
I accidently managed to delete all files in my c:/users directory and now my system won't go into standby or hibernate mode. It just shows a blank screen when I choose either or these but the PC never hibernates or sleeps and the only way to get it out of this state is a hard shutdown. I deleted all Files/Folders except my own user folder.
i want people to prevent to shutdown there pc.. But not restart or standby mode.. Is there a way to only remove the shutdown button instead of everything? like the tweak on this forum.
I have the same symptoms as Orpheus2000 posted in November 2011. Unfortunately for me, that thread ended without any apparent resolution. I've tried everything suggested yet Spider Solitaire still won't show the animation. When I go to 'options' the 'show animation' option is checked but greyed out
For some reason, every time I try to hibernate my PC (start -> hibernate), it locks itself instead and goes brings me straight to the login screen. This problem has only occurred recently and I haven't had problems with this before. The command line "shutdown /h" does the same thing and results in "The system cannot find the file specified. (2)".
"powercfg -a" results in: The following sleep states are available on this system: Standby < S1, S3 > Hibernate Hybrid Sleep The following sleep states are not available on this system: Standby < S2 > The system firmware does not support this standby state.
My specs are: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Intel core i7 CPU 6gb RAM Radeon 5770 graphics
I'm running dual boot with windows XP on another partition as well. My windows 7 partition is active and system but the windows XP partition is boot.

I have configured a backup job which wakes up the laptop at midnight, takes a backup and puts laptop into standby again. All this happens with the laptop lid closed. The power scheme is configured to put laptop into standby when lid is closed.
The resume from standby, backup and suspend after backup is controlled by Windows Home Server (2003) console which is installed on the laptop. I had purchased the HP laptop in October of last year and this job used to work just fine. Sometime in March of this year, the backup stopped working.
After checking the logs and physically observing the laptop at midnight, I found that the laptop resumes from standby at the scheduled time but immediately goes into standby if the lid is closed. The backup fails. Windows event logs indicate that laptop lid close action is putting system into standby.
If the lid is open, then the laptop resumes from standby, stays awake, backup proceeds and laptop goes into standby again.
Here are my problems:
a) Why did the backup work for several months and then stopped working?
b) I have other laptops in the house running Windows 7 home premium on variety of hardware (all HP) and they do not have any issue. Even with the lid closed, they resume from standby, do a backup and go into standby again. The power scheme on all these laptops is set to put laptop into standby when lid is closed. I have verified from physically observing the laptops during backup time.
I have checked all the usual suspects like BIOS updates, driver updates, run sfc, completely deleted the Windows Home Server console from laptop and re-installed after deleting all past backups. Is there some setting that I have overlooked?
Been having shutdown issues for the last several weeks following some issues i was having with an SSD drive and after a few hours of some hard soul serching in safe mode boots, i figured out that its an Nvidia driver that stops the machine from powering down after i hit the shutdown on Windows 7, i've tried reinstalling old drivers as well as the latest ones but i still get the same issue, it shuts down and powers off just fine NO PROBLEM!!! when i uninstall the nvidia drivers, but the second i load them back into windows i get the same problem again, i've been trying to sort this bloody mess out for 2 weeks or more, and finally got it pined to the nvidia drivers.
Spec is : Phenom II X6 1080XT / 8GB DDR3 1333 / 2 EVGA GTX 560 Ti's in SLi mode/ 1TB 7200RPM HDD / ASUS M4N75TD Motherboard / BFG 1000WATT PSU / Using Antec DF-85 case
I've done bios settings and cleared the bios completely, nothing is overclocked, everything is at factory defualts, i've tried updating the bios , and i've also disabled the SLI mode and nothing effected it, and also done several install of windows. One last thing, it shurts down and turns off perfectly fine in safe mode.
The IEE host bus controller in device manager tweak doesn't work, it doesn't matter if the power saving box is checked or not.
So Windows seems to be very unresponsive, slow, and buggy on my computer I've had for about 3 years now. It's done this the entire time I've had butince school has started it's really pissing me off when I'm trying to get homework done.Anyway, it has a very slow start up process, and during this the taskbar doesn't respond nor does the desktop and other things. Then at random intervals it does exactly this (that isn't my video though). This also happens when I play a game, it just completely stops (and sometimes the sound repeats itself over and over again) and I have to wait until it becomes responsive again. Now this is a problem I've had recently: It doesn't completely shutdown either. When I hit the shut down button and go to bed, I'll wake up in the morning and it still has the blue "Shutting down..." screen. So I have to forcefully shut it down by holding down the power button for 3 seconds.[CODE]
I have an newer HP Netbook running Windows 7. I recently installed Open Office 3.3 on the machine, and it works fine, except for some key sequences. For example, in the OO Writer, the key sequence Ctrl-Home should move the cursor to the top of the doc. This works fine on my older HP XP Pro laptop, but my netbook ignores or doesn't understand it. I have removed OO and reinstalled it, but the problem still occurs. So, I guess I need to figure out if this is a Windows or Open Office issue.
I had to buy laptop because my desktop with winxp died. Now how do I get the scanner to work with win7? I need to scan medical records. The scanner is a Canon Lide 55.

No I want to do the same with a Windows 7(Pro, 32 bit) Client .The exact same command occurs this error message: System error 1326 has occurred.Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.(Username and password are correct, working on all XP clients)is that when I am using a non existing user name and any password, i says: The command completed successfully.
I'm trying to install VMWare Workstation v7 (the trial) on my Windows 7 PC, but whenever I start the setup, I just get a blank screen :S. It's really weird. Even after 2 hours nothing happened. Can you guys help me?
I have many years of experience with Windows OSes, but one thing about Win7 is stumping me. I have an application that I want to open when I log in. It's Speedfan, so I can monitor temperatures. I put a shortcut to it in my Start Menu - Programs - Startup folder. If I click on that shortcut it starts the app. But the app never starts when I log in. It shows in the start menu in MSCONFIG and it is enabled.
i am on windows 7 and for a week, my keyboard doesn't work. the key p, return, tab, and some others won't work. ma visual keyboard works fine - except the question mark - . i tried the pilots, and the computer says it has the best pilots so no need to update. i don't know where it comes from, but then, after a windows update, my keyboard came back to normal. it worked fine for three days and then, again, it screw up. it's always the same keys that don't work, so i don't think my keyboard is worn out. my computer is only one year old. it's a sony vaio laptop. each time i press the p key, for example, the start button -physical one- blinks. same for the other buttons. when i press the return key, the start button blinks. and while i am having this problem, my computer has trouble loading. sometimes it freezes and i have to unplug it and remove the battery to reboot.
my LENOVO 450 the window start up do not want to run, when i open it, there the note saying if I want to open my computer in normal way or use to window start up repair
Some weeks ago, a pop-up message appeared on my aging father's PC screen, saying that Microsoft apologized, but something must be done and required that he click on some button.Since then, his login password is inefficient. He can't use this PC anymore.
I just installed Windows 7 on my home computer. When I plug in my old speakers (Creative Intrigue 2.1s) whatever speaker is plugged into the right jack BARELY gets any sound. I did some research and it seems this is a semi common problem. I tried messing with all the balance levels and hooked up an old set of speakers which work fine. I also tried switching speakers and whichever is in the right audio jack barely works while the other works fine. The only other thing I was able to find was someone said they got a "new" cord and it fixed their problem. Is there a cord that would work with Windows Vista but wouldnt work with Windows 7?
Just got this computer about two weeks ago. My old XP Pro finally crashed and burned. I miss that machine. Win 7 is crap as far as I am concerned. Problem - Windows Explorer absolutely does not work. I try to copy and paste between drives or even on the same drive. Program starts out great and gets down to near the end and reads 5 seconds remaining. That is the end of the copy and paste. Furthermore, it is an ordeal to shut the damn program off. Sometimes I even have to pull the plug on the machine (and yes I know that is not good). I thought for a bit that some throttling program was the culprit but I am getting nowhere.
my keyboard works fine for the BIOS but as soon as windows starts it stops. It's not recognized in the device manager but will occasionally show (still doesn't work). And I know it's not a USB problem because I've switched ports and all other USB devices work, including the mouse.
I've got OEM version of W7 Pro 64 bit. I've had it about 2 months and everything is working fine except IE8 64 bit. I normally use Firefox so haven't been to concerned. I'm now trying to figure out why my IE8 64 bit dosn't work. The IE8 32 bit works fine. The error I get when I start IE8 64 is
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."
I've downloaded IE8-WindowsVista-x64-ENU and tried installing that but get the error: "Internet Explorer 8 is not supported on this operating system". I've checked in control panel system and it reports my o/s is 64 bit.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. When I try to do a System Restore, it seems to run to completion, reboots the system and then issues the following message:
"System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed."
Same result in Safe mode. Same result with AV disabled. (Kaspersky Internet Security 12)
I have a seagate 2 TB external HDD. It has 1 FAT32 partition. Everything works as expected in Windows Vista/7 and even in Ubuntu. When connecting the external HDD to any XP machine (tested 3 computers with XP), the device will not show up under My Computer. It is visible in Device Manager.Under Disk Management, the drive shows up without any labelling and has improper file system and partitioning. It's as though the partition table is messed up, however, the drive works perfectly on any Vista/Windows 7/Linux pc. [code] Not only is the capacity incorrect, but darn well everything else about the drive shows up incorrect under Disk Management. This happens with all XP PCs. Also, I ran a SFC /SCANNOW with one XP machine in the event the FAT32 drivers or DLLs were corrupted and no resolve.I reinstalled XP on the same machine and the results were identical.
