Windows 7 / IE 8 (64 Bit) Doesn't Work- Version Not Compatible

Nov 4, 2010

I've got OEM version of W7 Pro 64 bit. I've had it about 2 months and everything is working fine except IE8 64 bit. I normally use Firefox so haven't been to concerned. I'm now trying to figure out why my IE8 64 bit dosn't work. The IE8 32 bit works fine. The error I get when I start IE8 64 is

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

I've downloaded IE8-WindowsVista-x64-ENU and tried installing that but get the error: "Internet Explorer 8 is not supported on this operating system". I've checked in control panel system and it reports my o/s is 64 bit.

Which Version Of Windows Would Be Most Compatible With Existing Programs And Usage?

Feb 6, 2011

I am going to make the jump, on my home machine, from Windows XP to Windows 7 soon. I have Windows 7 Professional 64 bit (an OEM from Dell) on my shop machine. I run a few programs on my home machine which do not get along entirely with Windows 7. I know this because I have had to upgrade the same programs to run on my shop box.

On the home machine, I would like to keep as many of these programs as possible and I want to play a few games...some of which came out before Windows 7.I am prepared to put a VM on the home machine but as a last resort.Which version of Windows would be most compatible with my existing programs and usage? I am inclined to the Professional 64 bit version (as in my shop computer) but and not sure what the difference between that and the other versions are...and what benefits I derive from 64 bit.I have an Intel i5 3.20 ghz with 4 gb ram and an Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT.

BootLoader Missing - Version Not Compatible On Windows Repair DVD

Nov 9, 2011

Boot loader is missing from HD. I entered the windows repair from dvd, and it finally showed the windows installation, C:Windows (recovered). Tried selecting it again to have windows reinstall MBR, but now it says version is not compatible. So, needless to say, I can't proceed any further. The only thing I can figure is the the windows dvd is both x86 and x64, thereby not recognizing that I have the x64 installed.

Sound Card Is Not Working Properly Because A Compatible Driver Is Not Available For This Version Of Windows

Jan 20, 2013

I just purchased a "refurbished" Dell Optiplex GX 620. When I turned it on everything worked fine until it rebooted after an automatic Microsoft update was installed. Now I have no sounds. According to the Device Manager "Your sound card is not working properly because a compatible driver is not available for this version of Windows." (I'm running Win7). My sound card is a SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio. I have tried several SoundMAX drivers (found online) that said they were compatible but they don't work either.

The Version Of File Is Not Compatible

Nov 29, 2012

I have a problem with my IBuypower desktop. I have only had it for 3 months, and recently I've had this problem when trying to open certain programs. This is the message that pops up. "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher." This happens every time I try to run Command Prompt. This also happened to me when ever I opened up Guild Wars 2 when I had the free trial a few weekends ago. And recently (yesterday) World of Warcraft has been freezing on me. It all of a sudden happened out of nowhere, and after re-installing it, it still does it.. I've been running AVG and Total Defense Security Center, and both say there is nothing harmful on my computer. When I start up my computer, the computer checks the disks and says there is a file or program that was recently downloaded that needs to be removed, but I do not know what it is. I can't seem to find a solution to this anywhere online. Do I need to re-install Windows? I also just got blue screen.

Is Microsoft Work Suite Compatible With Windows 7

Sep 18, 2012

My wife has a new laptop running Windows 7 and has migrated from Xp (which she loved) I have transferred most of her files and she now has a problem. Before on the xp laptop she used to work with Microsoft works Suite 2001that ran Microsoft Works 6.0 and mainly the Picture It part of the suite using the Picture It, Publishing 2001 Set up Design and Art.She still likes this prog as she is very comfortable with it and it does just what she wants it to do. The problem was that when she went to open one of her files it was a php file and tho she has got Office 2007 on her new pc it will not open the file. I tried to install the worksuite 2001 onto the new pc from the original discs that we have and after a while an error comes up unable to load dll file ?? Does this mean it is not compatible and if so can anyone reccomend a (free if possible) program that we can use to open/use the php files

Can't Boot Windows 7 - Recovery Options Won't Work / Not Compatible

Dec 16, 2012

I'm having trouble with my windows installation. It seems windows installation was corrupted. I get the following when I boot (this is a summary):

Windows failed to start. . .
Insert an installation disc [and repair your computer]...
File: EFIMicrosoftBootBCD
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

However, the big problem starts here: the recovery options in the windows installation disc don't work. It just says it's not compatible with my version of windows (even though I know it must be, since that was the disc I installed from). How can I repair my windows installation? Could I connect my corrupt hard drive to another computer and do it through there?

Doesn't Seem To Be An Option To Change All Of Contained Applications To XP Compatible

Mar 9, 2011

I have no choice but to try and load a program onto my Windows 7 machine that only has WinXP compatibility (well not 64-bit Windows 7 anyway) It is Samsung PC Studio for what that is worth. So my plan is to load it in XP compatible mode . The thing is there sem to be 2 parts to the program .1 is the program as such and the 2nd part is the usb drivers. I understand the procedure is to find the application file ,go to the compatibility tab and select WinXP.So my question is how do I know which are the right applications to change in this way? When I go into the folders there are quite a lot different ones . Is it really as painstaking as it seems ? I don't think when I just load the CD I am given an option to load in XP mode and when I click on the CD itself there doesn't seem to be an option to change all of the contained applications to XP compatible. Again I think I may be able to run the whole Win 7 operating system as WinXP but this seems like overkill

Average User Doesn't Correct X64 Version Of OS

Apr 9, 2011

Sounds like it patches the Kernel allowing you to use more than 4GB on a 32bit ver of Windows7. Haven't heard of that being possible. Looks like it comes from a company called (KM-Software)??? Below is the description. Wondering if anyone else has heard of this or is it just Virus injecting software? Using all RAM on x86 systems! W.M.L.U. - A revolutionary program for Windows 7 x86 that lets you forget about the average user does not correct the x64 version of OS. The program produces a copy, and patching the kernel, due to which it is possible to use up to 128 GB of RAM on 32-bit Windows 7. You have more than 4 GB of RAM, and you do not want to put a 64-bit OS, then WMLU solve your problem. Now you can not worry about application compatibility, and search for drivers, because of irrelevance to most users install Windows 7 x64 (do you really know why you need it?). This small, comfortable, but also a portable application in the semi-automatic mode unlocks to use all available RAM, you are required to all a few clicks.

I have removed OO and reinstalled it, but the problem still occurs. So, I guess I need to figure out if this is a Windows or Open Office issue.
