I had a scare with my computer yesterday and almost had to reinstall but realized that my install disk seems to be missing. I was wondering if I borrowed a windows 7 home premium install disc from my friend would I be able to use my product key (On bottom of laptop) to install correctly using their disc.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a nearly new system with a Gigabyte motherboard. Everything had been running ok the errors began appearing and the system went into a start up loop.
After having it examined by a computer engineer the only thing he could do was to re install a trial version of Windows 7 in the hope that when I activate it (in the next 30 days) the motherboard will accept the new product key.
I am at a loss as to why my system crashed initially but after several technicians have looked at the system this is the best they could do. If its going to be an issue I wont activate and will start using a Linux OS if I have to.
From my workplace I have been literally given stacks of Dell OEM (re installation DVDs) Windows 7 Professional disks. I have installed a couple of them on test machines and, naturally, do not pass the WGA. So I'm planning to buy a few 'retail product keys' from eBay to use on my home machines.
I was wondering if the retail product keys (Win 7 Pro) will work with the Dell OEM disks. I have done the same thing with a Dell OEM Windows Vista Business re-installation disk and a retail product key bought from online used with a non-Dell computer with no issues (except the Dell logo is embedded in the Control Panel).
Has anyone tried this before? Because I don't know if Dell has modified the disks to accept only Dell systems and OEM product keys?
I've got OEM version of W7 Pro 64 bit. I've had it about 2 months and everything is working fine except IE8 64 bit. I normally use Firefox so haven't been to concerned. I'm now trying to figure out why my IE8 64 bit dosn't work. The IE8 32 bit works fine. The error I get when I start IE8 64 is
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."
I've downloaded IE8-WindowsVista-x64-ENU and tried installing that but get the error: "Internet Explorer 8 is not supported on this operating system". I've checked in control panel system and it reports my o/s is 64 bit.
Will the entire Adobe CS3 suite work on the 64-bit Ultimate version of Windows 7? Is there a list somewhere of compatable and incompatible software for the 64-bit version?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 HP x64 on my computer and I just found out that an upgrade download version of Enterprise is offered free through my job. I have read through threads dating back to early 2012 that say that upgrading from HP to Enterprise is not possible because Enterprise has a different license key.
1) Is this upgrade version of Enterprise meant to be an upgrade from XP Enterprise, or is there now a way to upgrade from an existing Windows 7 version?
2) When upgrade version are offered to employees through a job like this, are employees required to get a key from the software admins, and does this also apply to downloaded version? There was no mention of a key on the download page.
3) Can a Windows 7 HP to Enterprise upgrade exist or would I have to do a clean install of the Enterprise using the upgrade image/disk?
System - Mac w/Lion running Parallels so I can run Windows 7 software Purchased already - Windows 7 Home Premium full retail version My old Windows machine was dying and my family wanted to move this last family member PC holdout over to Mac. This is my first experience with Mac. My grown son wanted to make it as easy for me as possible, so he loaded a trial version of Windows 7 on the new Mac and got everything set up in parallels for me. The idea was that after I transferred all my files over to the new machine I could just move the activation over to the new machine and we would trash the ancient PC. I was all set last night to officially activate the trial version when I discovered that the new machine's trial version is Windows 7 Professional, not Windows 7 Home Premium.What I need to find out is if I purchase the retail Windows 7 Professional Upgrade version, could I simply enter that product key and not have to uninstall and reinstall now that I have the trail version for pro all nice and settled. I really do not want to have to uninstall, especially with the added complication of Parallels, install Home and then upgrade. I want 'KISS' and simply enter the product key for the professional upgrade and just keep on working with my set up system. Will that work?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy laptop crashed the other day after a Windows update. To make a long story short it would not boot up. I tried several things to no avail. System restore disc did not work. At this point I thought the hard drive was fried. Finally I stuck the the Windows 7 companion disk and got the system to boot I can tell all my files are there somewhere due to amount of memory taking up on the hard drive. Anyways my main problem it is now asking for the product key although I have 29 days which unfortunately I cannot find. Laptop in question is a Lenovo G550. Where do I go from here? Do I have to purchase a new key? I've been using the laptop since and it seems to be working properly as far as i can tell.

I'm getting the following error - "The version of this file is not compatible with the the version of windows you're running." HP sent him recovery disks for both Win 7 (64-bit) and the recovery driver disk. The Windows recovery disks appear to work fine; took over 1.5 hours to put the system back, but when he puts the driver disk in (and I tried this, too), the head sounds like it's repeatedly searching for something, can't find it, so after 2-3 minutes, just stops. I then told it to "skip" the driver disk and restart.

Programs run slow and whenever we turn the computer on from sleep mode,it usually takes 30 seconds or so to get anything requiring an internet connection to fully work. Disks won't open most of the time and I can't install anything. i have recently created my own windows 7 copy using this tutorial how to create windows 7 bootable dvd or iso by britec - Internet which worked greati then used the disk to format and re install windows 7 on my laptop, which worked fine.

I got it all installed and the activation key wouldn't work.Long story short I got the upgrade version on accident. So I got that refunded and I'm about to just go buy Home Premium. So my techie guy is downloading an English version (pirate???) and at same time buying a genuine Spanish version. He says he will then use the key code from the Spanish pack to validate the English version.

I'm leaning towards buying the clean install disk so that if I should loose the hard drive at some future point I could just clean install Win 7 Ultimate from the disk without having to first install Vista and then upgrade.
Regardless of which type I purchase, am I better off to buy the OEM disk from the machine manufacturer (Toshiba) or just purchase any OEM disk? Of course, if I want Microsoft support then I need to purchase retail disks.
