Jan 20, 2013I just purchased a "refurbished" Dell Optiplex GX 620. When I turned it on everything worked fine until it rebooted after an automatic Microsoft update was installed. Now I have no sounds. According to the Device Manager "Your sound card is not working properly because a compatible driver is not available for this version of Windows." (I'm running Win7). My sound card is a SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio. I have tried several SoundMAX drivers (found online) that said they were compatible but they don't work either.

Feb 14, 2009I have this mainboard : Asus P5GDC Pro with integrated sound card. Automatic installation of High Definition Audio Device fails and it fails each time I try to unninstall the driver and let windows install it again. I tryed some UAA drivers from Vista, but after installing it behaves like I have not installed anything.
On Win XP I was running C-Media High Definition Audio driver and it worked without any problems. Now it shows "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
Also in system tools my High Definition Audio controller shows (This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12) If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system. You need to restart your computer before the changes you made to this device will take effect) , but its displayed twice there and the other one works fine.
Windows 7 / IE 8 (64 Bit) Doesn't Work- Version Not Compatible
Nov 4, 2010I've got OEM version of W7 Pro 64 bit. I've had it about 2 months and everything is working fine except IE8 64 bit. I normally use Firefox so haven't been to concerned. I'm now trying to figure out why my IE8 64 bit dosn't work. The IE8 32 bit works fine. The error I get when I start IE8 64 is
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."
I've downloaded IE8-WindowsVista-x64-ENU and tried installing that but get the error: "Internet Explorer 8 is not supported on this operating system". I've checked in control panel system and it reports my o/s is 64 bit.
Is Microsoft Work Suite Compatible With Windows 7
Sep 18, 2012My wife has a new laptop running Windows 7 and has migrated from Xp (which she loved) I have transferred most of her files and she now has a problem. Before on the xp laptop she used to work with Microsoft works Suite 2001that ran Microsoft Works 6.0 and mainly the Picture It part of the suite using the Picture It, Publishing 2001 Set up Design and Art.She still likes this prog as she is very comfortable with it and it does just what she wants it to do. The problem was that when she went to open one of her files it was a php file and tho she has got Office 2007 on her new pc it will not open the file. I tried to install the worksuite 2001 onto the new pc from the original discs that we have and after a while an error comes up unable to load dll file ?? Does this mean it is not compatible and if so can anyone reccomend a (free if possible) program that we can use to open/use the php files

Dec 16, 2012I'm having trouble with my windows installation. It seems windows installation was corrupted. I get the following when I boot (this is a summary):

Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
However, the big problem starts here: the recovery options in the windows installation disc don't work. It just says it's not compatible with my version of windows (even though I know it must be, since that was the disc I installed from). How can I repair my windows installation? Could I connect my corrupt hard drive to another computer and do it through there?
List Of Compatible Sound Drivers
Jun 23, 2009I have seen a few posts of people trying to get a list together of sound cards that WILL work in Windows 7. Surely the moderator could compile and forward this request to MS to see what they have to say? I mean, we can't all be dumb! They also can't expect us to throw away our expensive cards just because there are no drivers. Of course, it's not MS's fault that a third party manufacturer doesn't update their drivers, and we all expect Creative Labs to drop us like a hot stone once they have our cash in their greedy little paws, but there HAS to be a solution somewhere? (Solution 1: make mental note not to buy Creative Labs *anything*, and I'm basing this on experience stretching back a bit).
My sound is from an onboard chip, so I will probably have to purchase a new card just to get sound. I have tried everything: BIOS enable/disable audio, get drivers from the Fujitsu site for a SCALEO 800s (you try that one...good luck), uninstall Windows 7 updates, move IRQs around, allow ESCD reset in BIOS, XP compatibility mode...no luck. The chip is a Sis 7012 with ESS ES1968 Maestro-2, according to those lovely driver update applications that are all FREE until you have to put in your credit card; you know the type.
The only thing hardware manufacturers CAN design and implement properly is a cash register, because that's all they seem to want. Once you've made the purchase, they don't want anything to do with you. MS, please come to the rescue with the following:
a) a list of Windows 7 compatible sound cards - LEGACY - ,
b) a list of new cards on/near the market
c) a more subtle compatibility mode that will say "I haven't found your driver, but in the interests of your sanity, click OK for me to install a compatible one until we get this mess sorted out."

On it, he had installed a form of creative volume control in addition to windows volume. The way it worked was he had the windows volume set to 100% at all times, and the creative volume control around 3% for regular browsing, 10-25% for gaming and 50% or higher for rocking out with music. I recently acquired windows 7 home premium x64 and upgraded my operating system. My soundblaster card has all the necessary drivers and the audio is all hooked up properly, and the only thing missing is this form of volume control. May 16, 2012I bought a computer second hand, and all in all it's an upgrade from my last computer, except for one thing: I can not for the world get my speakers to play any kind of 5.1 sound.
The sound drivers installed are Realtek High Definition Audio 6.0.1.6602 - but this could be a mistake on my side, as for all I know, I'm not even supposed to have them installed. I just assumed I needed the Realtek Audio Manager like I did on my last computer, to get the 5.1 sound to work, and this is probably completely wrong, heh.
So how can I get the 5.1 sound to work? What information do you need to guide me? And how do I find that information?
If the motherboard type is needed (I read somewhere else it might be) then I assume it's this: ASUSTeK Computer INC. 2A73h 1.01
When I go to the Control Panel, there is no Realtek Audio Manager there. Clicking Sound, I get the following information:
Speakers
Realtek High Definition Audio
Default Device
Clicking Configure, I only have ONE option: Stereo. No 5.1.
I really want the option to listen to sound from all my speakers (I don't even care if it's pure 5.1 sound, as long as there's music/sound coming from all the speakers I'm happy!)

I wasn't thrilled with its state when I received it, as the graphics card was defective and several cables were unattached. I really don't know a way to describe this other then that, they just do not sound like they used to. Feb 10, 2012I just reinstalled windows, and tried installing the latest High def audio codec from Realtek and no matter what I do. I just cant get my sound to work. In my playback devices, it still shows the green bar moving showing that sound should be playing, but i cant hear anything. My sound was working fine last night before I reformatted so I doubt anything went wrong with my sound card. I've tried pretty much everything..uninstalling all my audio drivers, then reinstalling the realtek high definition audio ones, and whenever i try to install the AC'97 drivers, it gives me an unauthorized vebdir. I've also tried using the CD that came with my motherboard with no luck. and I have also tried the latest drivers from gigabytes website with no luck.

ATI AHCI Compatible RAID Driver
Oct 22, 2009I'm trying to install the Windows 7 32-Bit upgrade on my Dell Inspiron 1721 laptop and I get an error that says that I need to update my ATI AHCI Compatible RAID Driver. I went into the Update Device Drivers as suggested in the instructions and tried to upgrade that driver, but it says I have the latest driver for it. So I tried restarting my laptop and ran the upgrade setup again, and got the same error message.
Any ideas on what I need to do to get it to upgrade? I tried searching all over and can not find a newer version than what I have (2.5.1540.48).

Dec 14, 2009Ok, so I have that problem with the Creative cards where it doesn't play nice with my Nvidia chipset and Win 7 64. Horrible sound when it works at all, clicks and pops and crackles. But most of the time it doesn't work at all.
The sound card in question is the X-fi Platinum I believe, and my mobo is an Asus A8N Deluxe.
I have been totally unable to find any information on decent sound cards that WILL work given my equipment. I would like to find something that provides rich sound similar to the X-fi Platinum. It was great while it lasted. Now I can't even get the crappy onboard sound to work!
