I have added a windows 7 computer on a network with a network printer which gets the address dynamically but Windows 7 gives it a static address during configuration and cannot find the printer when the address changes. All other computers on the network are OK.

It disconnects a lot but I can usually go to the Command Prompt and then release and renew my IP, which would normally fix it. So I did that today, only that time it said something about being unable to contact the DHCP server. So I then typed in ipconfig /ALL and it said the DHCP isn't enabled. I tried it again just recently, but instead I get a message saying that the RCP server is unavailable, but the ipconfig /ALL prompt still says the DHCP isn't enabled.
View 1 Replies View RelatedDamn Windows Update started installing a video card driver. My system is a Dell Vostro 430 and has an ATI HD 4350 (I think), but however, for some stupid reason it can only work with Dell's video driver. So when Windows Update installed the official driver for me, by the time I realised what it was doing it was too late. My screens went black; an incompatible driver screwed everything up.
Worse yet, it was still installing updates, so I was scared to turn my computer off in case it would create major problems. After waiting for four hours I decided it was time to pull the plug. After restarting the computer, it kept rebooting when it started loading Windows 7, and then soon after it didn't even get that far; it told me there was no compatible SATA device found and it refused to boot full stop. Trust this to happen at assignment hand-in week. I've got so much work to do.
I went to the library and downloaded an Ubuntu ISO and burned it to disc. I also got a legit ISO (I'm a student and use MSDN) of Windows 7 x86, since Windows 7 x64 had its problems with the software I use for my course. First of all I backed up all of my uni work using Ubuntu as a live CD, which worked okay. I moved other important data from my Windows (main) partition to my other partitions (Music, Games, TV/Films, etc) since I knew I was going to be formatting my system partition for a reinstallation.
I have two HDs installed. A 500GB one and a 1.5TB one. The drives seem to still be working since I could access them in Ubuntu. However, most of the partitions were formatted as dynamic partitions, not basic. It seemed that the partitions on my 500GB drive were basic, whereas the ones on my 1.5TB were dynamic. This is why it disallowed me to install Windows 7 on the 1.5TB drive. (It dislikes dynamic partitions for whatever reason.) However, I formatted the original basic system partition and started installing Windows 7 x86 on it. It got to 100% and was finalising installation, until it halted, told me the installation had failed, and that I'd need to restart and try again. Every time I have tried, it has failed at that point.
I don't know what the heck to do. I can't remove the partitions that exist because they contain a lot of data that I really want. I also have no means of backing up the data. I have no DVD discs left (and it would take a damn lot to back up hundreds of gigs), and no external HDs. Just for the sake of trying it out, I tried installing 7 x64 and got the same error, so I don't think it's x86-specific.
somehow my hard disk partition became dynamic. i formatted system and insttaled windows 7 ultimate in the dynamic disk partition. from then onwards system is not booting. only black screen with cursor on the upper left corner of the black screen.
if i am not wrong windows 7 cannot boot with dynamic disk. i will have to go to the disk management and after conversion of dynamic disk to basic disk with deleting all the volumes (data). it is possible to boot with windows 7.
but system is not booting...not opening..so i cannot go to disk management.
hrad disk is showing some partitions with system reserved. except system reserved all the partitions are shwoing dynamic. and in only one partition formatting option and installing OS option is coming while i booting system with OS DVD.
reinstalltion through OS DVD is possble by booting through OS DVD. but in advanced option repartition option is not coming. the one partition in which i installed OS previously, only in that formatting option is coming. in other partition neither formating option is coming nor extend.
I formatted and installed windows 7 64 bit in a pc which previously had windows 7 32 bit. When i booted my 1tb dynamic disk was not detected. So I went into disk management and it had listed my disk as "Foreign Disk". So i imported the foreign disk.
The drive was detected and opened. So i rebooted the pc but now the drive is still not appearing in my computer. When i go to disk management the 1tb appears but there is no drive letter assigned. When i try to assign drive letter it statest that "Specified File cannot be found"

We plug in our Ethernet cable to the library's system and each laptop has a static IP to identify it to the network.What we would like to do now is bring in a wireless printer to use for tax forms. Attached directly to this printer is a small router we have used before. But if we simply pressed the print button, I suspect it might look on the libraries wireless network for that printer.Besides assigning a static IP to this printer, I'm thinking we might also have to include the MAC address as well so it finds that router connected to the printer.

I have three computers on a network and and an HP officejet J4680 which had a ip of 192.168.1.68 on the old network and everything worked well. On the new network the printer ip has changed to 192.168.1.2 and the computers can print to the printer ok however I cannot scan a document. The paperport software seems to be looking for 192.168.1.68 and I cannot find a way to get paperport to look to 198.168.1.2. The exact same problem exists with irfranview.

Because its in the other room, I can't connect my WDTV Live to the router without running cable along the floor. Last Friday my main desktop crashed (lost power to the machine) and on restarting the PC was unable to "identify" the network. By identify, I mean, when using "Network and Sharing Centre" on the basic network information page, the PC shows "Identifying" under "active networks" - no matter how long I leave the PC.

Modem Router details

The main desktop is connected to the modem router (via Ethernet). The modem router is showing no sign of any problems itself, all the dashboard lights look ok (i.e. power is on, port 1 shows the Ethernet connection in place, both wireless bands are lit, the DSL is lit and so is the internet). The household contains a number of laptops which continue to work ok wirelessly and/or wired through Ethernet. Even mobile phones are accessing the wi-fi ok.
The DNS Server address looks ok, as that is the address of the web page to the router. I cannot access that web page (address) via the main desktop, but I can from other devices ok. Having gone through Device Manager the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller is showing as "working properly". I have tried pinging the DNS Server address, and that fail. I have gone through a system restore to a previous point (before the day of the crash) but that seems to have made no difference either.
I have attempted to set the IP addresses (for TCP/IPv4) directly
IP address 192.168.0.3
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
And therefore forced to set the DNS Server address too
Preferred DNS server: 192.68.0.1
But I don't know what to set for the alternate DNS Server, so left blank. This seems to step me forward, in that the device/network is now identified. However the internet access is still not work, as the "DNS Server is not responding".
so i got this cool Hp laptop... nice the bad part ... I had a single 500 gb Hard disk. only two partitions ... experimented to partition it ... 1. I upgraded my basic drive to dynamic drive ( got four partitions now) 2. My OS (win 7 home premium x64) is on one of the partiotion on the dynamic disk. QUESTIONS How do i convert back to basic... i only have my OS key no install cd? Can i take a back up or sys image that i can use later on after converting my hard disk to basic?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy internet connection shows 'no internet access' even though my ISP shows the connection is coming into the house just fine. I usually use a router (NetGear-WNR3500U) but I right now I have the Ethernet connection plugged directly into my PC. I tried directly plugging into my laptop and the internet works just fine. So I know the problem resides in the PC.
Some troubleshooting things I have tried.
-Power cycled my modem, router and PC.
-Repinged my connection from my ISP(Comcast Xfinity)
-Used the reset option on the router and the modem
-I was walked through the internet options needed with the tech support from my ISP to make sure DHCP was enabled and every other setting was correct, and he cleared me that all settings were correct.
-Tried ipconfig commands to /renew and /release my IP When I tried ipconfig /renew I get the error 'An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server'
-Restored my PC to a restore point where the Internet was working
All of these options did not work.
What I think the problem is and I am not sure how to fix it, when I run the ipconfig /all command my Auto configuration IPv4 Address shows 169.254.112.76 which I was told is a router IP address even though I am plugged directly from the modem to my PC with an Ethernet cord. So I think that's my problem? But I am not sure.
I'm running the Windows 7 64bit, the printer is connected to the XP. That printer is not a network printer (Hp 5740,and 5520) , and shared from a Desktop running WinXP 32 bit. I cannot install it via network access ?

I have followed the threads provided in this forum but am unable to print to the 1200. The printer is connected via a USB port. The printer/USB port is recognized as USB printing support. I have previously loaded the HP laserjet 1200 PCL5 driver and have now tried loading the HP Universal Printing PCL6 driver. In both situations the printer driver is seen under the printers/fax (in the Devices/Printers page) as either the Laserjet 1200 PCL5 or the HP PCL6.

Everything was going fine with setting up until it came to printers.I have 3 printers connected - Brother HL2030 laser, HP Photosmart D6160 and Epson Stylus photo R2400 - and NONE of them will work. All three came up with "your device is installed correctly etc etc" message. I can't print documents or even a test page. I've downloaded and installed Brother's W7 driver - zilch.
