I've installed Windows 7 alongside Ubuntu and was using grub2 bootloader, after changing my graphics card and moving removing some old hard disks when I try to boot the Windows partition I get the blinking underscore screen indefinitely.I tried recovery from the DVD, the Windows install is not recognised in the list, it's just empty, clicking load drivers I can navigate to the drive - it's there as D:, I can see the Windows directory and files, the C drive is another NTFS partition without a Windows install. As it doesn't recognise the install, startup recovery doesn't work.I then tried bootrec and bcdedit from the command line, eventually I hit a wall with an error that there is no recognised file system - despite it being available in the Load Drivers dialog earlier.
I was trying to reclaim some unallocated space on the drive and in the process seem to have lost boot manager, so it won't load Windows. If I put the disc in, it's not able to automatically able to repair because it says the repair disc I'm using is not compatible with the OS I have installed. This is the same disc I used to install Win 7 in the first place. Tried using cmd prompt to reload boot manager manually, and it completes the operation successfully but still says bootmgr is missing at start up.What's scaring me is that if I try to just install Win 7 again (onto the unallocated space), the hard drive just turns off and the hdd light comes on solid. This is when I choose 'Install Now' from the opening screen before selecting partitions etc. I'm typing this post from a spare hdd. The only thing I can think off at this point is the get an enclosure and recover my files; then wipe the hdd in question and reinstall Win 7.
I have a Toshiba Satellite C655-S5132 that just shut down & now will not boot Windows 7. Just goes to black screen w/blinking cursor then goes to 'startup repair' (which I'm postiive this is a virus of somekind) & will not allow me to do anything. Just repeats itself. I downloaded Windows 7 repair to a CD-R, chgd BIOS settings to CD/DVD to boot first, saved changes, and will NOT pull/boot up from disc. I've tried 2diff repair discs, both do not work. 'F8' does not do anything for me, not able to get to 'safe mode'. Computer is only 2yrs old.
I have installed SP1,I have tried to run a repair because I cannot run Backup!! but it says "your current version of windows is more recent than the version you are trying to upgrade to!Is this another mess by created by Microsoft ?
Today while listening to a song. My computer restarted with a BSOD. It then asked me to repair my computer saying that some boot record is corrupt. I repaired my computer from the cd. It works fine but now i can only see my C: and no other drives are being shown though the data is still there. I cant see the remaining three partitions in my computer
Recently I had an issue with Chrome (which is now solved), But during solving the error I done an SFC Scan as it was a windows .DLL that was reporting to be in error and the scan found a few files that were un-repairable.I also downloaded a Windows 7 Installation Disc from Digital River; Here. After extracting the required files from the .iso files with 7-Zip, I changed the ownership of them and 'Moved and Replaced' the old files with the new files.
I then re-booted in safe mode with CMD Prompt and re-scanned with SFC, but the same files are reporting they are in error. Are they important? Is there another way to repair them? I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, I have attached the most recent SFC Scan.
When I recently tried to boot up my system all I could get is a blank screen. Tried to boot up using Windows 7 repair disk but it goes into a loop at the "starting windows" screen consequently won't boot up for me.
I am having a bit of an odd issue with my Alienware MX11 laptop. I just restored it to a previous "checkpoint" after just having the error "Failed to save all the components for the file \System32\000052af. This file is corrupted or unreadable This error may be cause by a PC hardware problem." After restoring via Control Panel it is running generally fine. However, my issue is wanting to reset it to factory default settings. I've reset to the Factory Image before with previous Dell laptops, but for some reason the repair menu will not load past the black screen with the grey bar on the bottom with the words "Windows is loading files..." After the bar fills white (very quickly might I add) it returns to being gray and sits there.
Is there another way to return to factory image or a way to fix this?
This laptop is still fairly young (got it last month) and the warrenty is still good.
I have a Samsung netbook (n145) which has had a few issues starting up over the past couple months - it would prompt to run chkdsk before booting, I would let it run, and it would boot. However, yesterday I got the 'windows failed to start - a recent hardware change may be responsible' error message, and giving the option to try starting windows normally (which fails: there is a flash of BSOD and then screen goes black, and computer restarts, arriving at same 'failed to start' error). The other option is to run system repair, which also does not work: it takes ages to bring up a dialog box that searches for errors, but I have let this run for hours and it remains stuck. Tapping f4 to bring up samsung recovery also results in a stuck screen. Tapping f8 to boot to safe mode does not work either.
My main concern is having a working computer, and I can't really afford costly repairs or a new netbook. I got this one used about 1 1/2 years ago and it has no cd drive/OS boot disk (windows 7 starter came already installed). What should I do? Can I fix the hard drive, or should I replace? I am not at all technically skilled and have limited knowledge but an endless capacity to learn. I called samsung and they suggested I replace the hard drive to the tune of $100-$300 for parts alone, which is too expensive for a $100 netbook.
I have successfully created a Windows 7 Repair Disc using the "Create a system repair disc" from Control_Panel->Backup_and_Restore
When I attempt to reboot, using the Repair Disc I have just created, everything appears to work - Loads files, Windows wavy flag, etc. however; just as I am about to get into the real stuff I receive the following message:
This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair.
This is exactly the ssame message I get if I boot from the original Window 7 DVD and elect Repair option
This is really important to me as when I use F8 during Post I do not have the options to repair the system here either and it freaks me a bit to be unable to repair the system should anything happen
I've been running disk and system maintenance on my computer, and sfc found some corruption it couldn't repair. It looks like it's .NET framework 4 that has the errors, so I uninstalled it and its updates, then reinstalled it and updated it, but the problem remains. Since that didn't solve it, I'm not sure if that's where the problem is or what to do about it. Anyone know which files I need to look at before I resort to doing an upgrade/repair installation?

I was told by a professional that my registry was likely corrupted and that my best bet would be to re-install Windows entirely. I was hoping it wouldn't come to that, but was prepared nonetheless. So I inserted the installation disk, and wouldn't you know it, the installer wouldn't recognize my hard drive (BIOS recognizes it though). Searching for reasons why this was happening only turned up people saying to make sure it was recognized by BIOS, which I considered a no brainier. When it still didn't work for people in certain threads, they were told to try wiping their hard drives. I've done it. Windows still doesn't want to notice my hard drive. After that, I decided to try and install Windows to an external hard drive. I know this isn't how Windows was designed, and I knew it wasn't how Windows was meant to be used, but I was (to my knowledge) out of other options (Also, the external hard drive has 1 TB of space on it, so I wasn't concerned about speed loss). So, I searched for ways to do that, and I came across PWboot. The first half of the installation worked, the second half did not. I began getting an error that read (bootmgr is missing press ctrlalt+delete to reboot.) Which I did. But that didn't fix anything. So I tried the entire process again, and it didn't work. The "Repair your computer" feature in the windows install disk turned up nothing as well. I can't "Factory Reset" because it can't detect any installation of windows, the startup repair function can't "repair this computer automatically", and none of the other options will even open (with the exception of the command prompt, but most of the commands aren't valid for some reason.)
Right, i'll try to explain it not to detailed; -Was multitasking between online videos and facebook, when suddenly one of those 'Do you trust 'such and such'' windows came up (with the dimed background). -I cannot remember what it said but it wouldnt let me press 'No'. -So I had to trust it (but I would have pressed 'Yes' anyway). -So when it went away, displayed on my screen was a new window, and again I didn't really look at it, but I defintely remember that it was an error window. Again I pressed yes, and this was because I didn't understand a word of it.This is where my problem comes in; -After pressing 'yes' the computer restarts and comes up with a 'System Repair' screen, tells me that its looking for the problem. -When finished it says 'Unable to repair' or something along those lines, and then followed by 'remove all external hardware (mp3s, controllers etc) and try again' -I do this, doesnt work same screen. -And now i'm stuck. EDIT: Its the 'Startup Repair' option/window in the 'System Recovery Options' window.
Two weeks ago my computer came down with a blue screen of death. I was running Windows 7 at the time on a fairly new system (little over a year old). Great gaming PC, never had any real issues. I was unable to get past the Windows loading screen, I was unable to load up in safe mode, I was unable to start up from the last known configuration, and I was unable to run a Windows repair. All options failed. I tested the memory to see if my RAM was messed up; RAM was fine.
So I installed a brand new hard drive in today, fresh and clean. I popped in my Windows Vista DVD (I don't have a DVD for my 7) and started installing Windows Vista on the new hard drive. All was going fine. Then it finished installing and immediately I was struck by the BSoD in the same spot as before; couldn't even log in. So apparently it's not a Windows problem, there's a serious issue with my PC itself. What is wrong?
I recently took my pc in for repair of the raid drive. The service center used a software which allowed them to change my password, so that they could access the pc. however I believe it damaged my profile because now, I can not change the password from password and outlook no longer remembers any of my email passwords, I must reenter them all each time I run outlook. I am trying to avoid creating a new profile.I am running Windows 7 Professional 64x with a mirrored 2TB drive. Simple peer to peer workgroup
Recently my laptop which is an Asus N53S, is not been able to boot windows 7. When I try and do a start up repair, it is unable to repair. Then, I also made a windows 7 system repair disc, it ran fine but it was unable to fix my problem as well. I tried to hook up a printer to my laptop but did not succeed cause I had no internet or driver discs to install at the time. Also, I install a program called desa? for downloading blackmesa source.
I recently downloaded a damaged file, which caused my computer (not this one) to be unable to start up normally. The computer now boots up in Startup repair, which is unable to repair my computer "automatically" and when I then click "View advanced options for system recovery and support" and go to the "System restore" tab and choose a Date and time for the restoration, it tells me that "There is not enough free space to restore the disk". I seem to have no options to try and sort out the missing space on the harddisk, which should be unnecessary because I am pretty sure there is still alot of disk space on the C.
i got a hp pavillion running windows 7 i was installing the windows update and pressed restart now, after this the force restart thing came up but i pressed cancel and it didnt like this, after 2 minutes of program errors it restarted and went straight into startup repair. running it on normal mode doesnt work and safe mode is not available. when it runs startip repair it wont fix anything and tells me to restore, i can get to the windows restore part and have restore points but they do not work and an error is shown, x8000xffff if i remember correctly.
I've been having trouble trying to get my computer to boot; I'd noticed a drop in performance (still unsure why) so decided to boot up in safe mode and poke around - it was not my original intention to install AC 5.3.0 but somehow it happened. I ran the 'deep-care' utility and everything was working fine, my computer rebooted and performed a disk check: there weren't any errors that I can remember apart from [something along the lines of] 60 reparse files. Following this my computer restarted and Windows failed to load, restarting to show me startup repair - this isn't the first time this has happened, a similar thing occurred following previous attempts at boosting speed, though before I was able to get Windows up and running using an Ubuntu installation disk... still don't understand why - no need to say that it didn't work this time. Startup repair refuses to work and my system restore points have vanished; I would try doing a repair install if I had a copy of the disk. I built the computer myself a few months back, borrowing a Windows 7 installation disk from a friend (who has now conveniently lost said disk), startup repair does tell me something about 'Problem Signatures'. [code]
I just created a system repair disc by clicking "Create a system repair disc" on my computer. The disc was successfully created, then I went to boot it up in VirtualBox and I get a Toshiba error: F3-F100-0003. How could this be? I don't think VirtualBox or the repair disc would have anything to do with Toshiba. I created this disc with a factory preinstallation of Windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop. Did Toshiba put a custom disc image on the computer which will be burned to the disc? Does VirtualBox use the host computers BIOS? (maybe not possible because there was a Windows 7 cursor in front of the error box) Does Microsoft use Toshiba technology in their repair discs?
So yesterday I added another hard drive to my computer. I now have 2 SATA hard drives running in my machine. I used the disk managment, and the 2nd hard drive is working as it should.
However, when I shut down my computer and turned it back on, Windows will boot to the Startup Repair screen every time. I checked the BIOS and made sure the boot order was correct, and even took the 2nd hard drive off the boot order in order to make sure it wasn't causing any issues. It's pretty annoying, because every time I start up, I have to wait for the whole repair process before it will load normally. Each time it always says that there are no repairs that could be made.
I also am not able to put my computer in sleep mode any longer. I believe my BIOS setting is set to S1, and before I never had any problems. I would put my comp to sleep and everything would be fine. After the 2nd hard drive, my monitor will turn off and it sounds like 1 of the hard drives turns off, but the CPU and fan are still running and it does not completely go to sleep.
I've got two hard drives with Windows 7 on it. One of them, the operating system crashed entirely, on the other, it's a perfect copy of how the other hard drive was at factory settings (drivers and all). Now, you're probably wondering, hey, why not use the other hard drive? Thing is, I'm trying to save / keep all the programs on the first hard drive in order to save myself the hassle from 1) pretending I'll find / looking for the disks that I know I don't have and 2) the time it'd take to install them.the machine was *not* giving me anything except sending me over to start up repair, stating that it couldn't fix the problem. I used the other hard drive to boot into Windows, and was hoping to do a repair option on the other hard drive. Unfortunately, I don't think that's entirely possible. I used Hirens Boot CD to check out the System32 / Syswow64 folders, and there was hardly anything in there. So, naturally, started copying off certain sub folders from one to the other. Now, I can get it to attempt to boot / it sees the partition / I go to safe mode, and it hits Classpnp.sys for a split second, then startup repair. Startup repair let's me see that there is one root cause, but, after doing its thing, says that it didn't detect an issue with the startup.
1x Sony Vaio laptop 2x Hard drives (one with a factory restored image on it, another one that won't boot into the OS)The hard drive that I need to boot from / one that has my programs goes to Startup Repair after hitting Classpnp.sys in Safe Mode Startup repair has one thing fail (StartupRepairOffline issue), but says it didn't detect a problem / everything booted fine afterwards Attempted to rebuild the BCD (after successful fixmbr / fixboot), but it states it sees 0 installations of windows. However, I have a Windows 7 retail disk that sees the installation folder.
running Win7 X64 having recently (2 months) transferred from XP. My Outlook pst files are in need or repair. I have used SCANPST.EXE on previous machines so am familiar with it. The problem is that the .pst files are stored, as it is the default location, within "/Users/Uername/Local Settings". This directory gives me the message "Access is Denied". I am logged in as adminstrator but am unable to see a way round this.
I have searched on this forum and Google to see if others are having the same issue. After updating Windows last week, my computer has been in a consistent state of decline. Today, I powered the CPU down and it will not start-up again. I have attempted to use the windows repair disc, but am now told that startup repair cannot fix my problem.
sony vaio PCG-71314L on turning on, hangs at "windows is starting" for ever F10 says "disc read error" F8 says "no operating system found" booting/repairing/reinstalling from CD hangs at "windows is loading" for ever
how could i get it to boot/repaired/reinstalled?losing all data on HDD is fine, just need to make it work again.
I was working on my computer when windows locked up and I was forced into a hard shut down, when I restarted the computer one of my hard drives showed up as invalid and my computer would not recognize it. When I tried to repair the sector to make it valid the it seemed to work, now my computer will not boot into windows at all. I have an SSD HDD set up and I need this computer as it is my main audio work station.
My friend has had this laptop for the past year or so, March 2010; and just recently her laptop decided to stop booting. Every time I try to boot windows it gives me a BSOD. All I have is the boot/repair disk from 2010; however it isn't working properly when I try to repair the OS or boot from the disk. It's a toshiba and it came with a repair program, but it also removes data on the HDD. Is there a link to a proper boot disk that I can maybe download to a flash drive and boot from there and repair? Or is there at least an easy way to pull the information off of her HDD before using the Toshiba program? Is it possible to just plug in the laptop to my computer, turn it on and access it from my personal computer? I also have an OEM version of Windows 7 from when I built my own computer, can I use that to repair her OS or will it recognize that it's not the same computer and fail? I know, lots of questions, you don't have to answer them in sequence, just tell me what would work best .
Note: She does NOT have a restore point on her laptop, I was able to get that far on my own before I decided to ask on this forum.
I've got a CyberPower desktop computer which has worked great for over a year now. I was having some problems with my hard drive and so I started to attempt to improve it by first doing a disk check and then disabling some programs launching when the computer starts, making sure not to touch the Microsoft ones. Now when I start my computer I'm greeted with a message from the windows boot manager saying "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause" the status is "0xc000000f and the info is "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible". The major problem that I'm having is that when I put in the CyberPower disc which contains Windows 7, it seems to just ignore it! What can I do?
