Windows 7 Install Won't Work After Getting New Mobo / CPU And RAM - HDD Same
Oct 12, 2012
I'm trying to install windows 7 again after getting a new Mobo, CPU, and RAM. I'm using a HDD that already has windows on it, but I have to fresh install again. The problem is, whenever I use any kind of W7 disc, it loads the files, gets to the "starting windows" screen, and then re-boots.
Relevant info:
Core i5 2300
AsRock z68 Extreme4 Gen3
2x4GB Patriot Viper 3 1600mhz
WD Caviar blue HDD
Acer OEM DVD player
What I've tried:
New DVD player
New DVD
New RAM
IDE/ACHA modes
New HDD
XP disc (It would work actualy)
What could be:
CPU is bad
Mobo is bad
Somethings not set up right
None of the tested RAM is compatible
I am having to install a new hard drive on a friend's computer. The thing is though, he doesn't have the install disc or even the sticker with his Vista code on it. So I wanted to know if it is possible to install a copy of Windows 7 OEM onto the new hard drive (nothing else in the computer has changed--same mobo, RAM, etc). Is this possible or will the mobo have issues with a new Windows OEM?

This machine has been a total pain since I started working on it. Basicaly I cant install Windows 7 64 bits any version (no problems with DVD testesd on other machines beffore). But I could instal any 32 version, I guess there is something on the BIOS that i didnt did.
I'm having some performance decrease on my new Build. I bought a new motherboard, Hard Drive and CPU Cooler and had to re-install windows to get my new board to work properly. I've noticed that now in League of Legends my frame rate is around 40-70 when I used to have a constant 150+ even in hectic situations where lots of things were going on at one time. I have the latest AMD Drivers, 13.1. I have tried reverting back to 12.10 to see if its the new version that's causing the problem, but its the same. [code]
My understanding has always been that if you swap out a motherboard, you need to re-install the OS with board-specific drivers because the existing drivers are no longer compatible with the new hardware.Or, another example is building a new PC and using the hard drive out of an older PC that was dying to avoid having to reinstall software.....is this possible?I've heard people say that you don't need a fresh install, which makes me wonder.
I have a simple question, I recently fresh installed Windows7 and was wondering if I should Install the new mobo drivers from the ASUS site (i have an ASUS P5Q Pro) or should I just keep the current microsoft drives for all the chipsets/lan/etc. The only Thing I installed was the Realtek sound driver. Would there be any advantages to install proper drivers? because right now my computer runs perfectly stable and smooth using the Windows7 ones.
OEM pc MOBO died, replaced MOBO, windows having trouble booting (expected). attempting repair with no results but FAIL. I am noobish, so I ask, what can I use to help the repair process? PS: I upgraded my OS out of the box From win 7 home premium OEM install, to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 via disk. I also have win 7 premium (full) on disk from another PC i installed it too. I would do a clean install, but I can't lose any of my photos and data.
Today I built my new rig (specs below) and I kept the hard drive off my old gateway to save some coin. After I installed all the new hardware I turned it on and the ASrock screen popped up and prompted me to choose instant flash, select boot order, enter BIOS, and switch screen. When windows 7 attempts to load it stops while the dots are floating towards the center. The windows repair tool didn't help what-so-ever (go figure >.> ) and the PC won't/can't run in safe mode. I updated the BIOS from the ASrock website but that didn't help. I've tried all of the options provided and none worked. I don't want to format my drive and lose my data but I will if I must because I may have access to a new copy of Windows 7.

I had Windows XP SP3 installed on this home made desktop and everything worked fine. I formatted the drive to install Windows 7 Home Premium.1-I had issues installing, it kept getting stuck after the install at the "Starting Windows" screen so I disabled USB in the bios.
-Now everything works great but when I re-enable USB it freezes in the same place.
-Taken out RAM and tried different sticks.
-Tried disabling the floppy and other drives
-Updated the bios

I've replaced much of my PC's hardware, mobo/CPU/memory and I want the existing Windows 7 HHD to boot. What's the method? I can't even figure how to install the new mobo drivers without a booted OS.
Working on my computer wants to switch out motherboards and see if it could be done without having to reinstall windows 7. Is it possible? Switching from an MSI X58 Platinum SLI to an Asus X58 Sabertooth.

Recently rma'd both cpu and mobo and waiting on the return.Someone at my place of work mentioned that sometimes win7 doesnt like when you change your hardware configurations, like as in,it wont want to boot etc etcBottom line,i did a new build about a month ago,and returned both the mobo AND cpu for the exact same models of each.
I upgraded to a new processor, motherboard, and gpu. I insalled all the new hardware and turned it on. Windows 7 won't/can't load and can't repair. I can't lose the data on the HDD because there's some very important stuff on there.

The windows 7 Home premium 64-bit currently installed is upgraded from vista. The upgrade key and disk are available as well as in the HD. The current goal is to upgrade from an Q8300 to a i5-2500K, with the appropriate mobo (asus P8P67 M-Pro) and ram (8gb ddr3 g.skill 1333), what are the necessary steps/advice when doing so w/o purchasing a new OS?

I was rebuilding my computer bit by bit after my old one died on me. I recently purchased a motherboard/cpu and I used an old harddrive with windows xp on it and my old video card from my previous pc.Everything worked fine, all usb ports were up and running, monitor worked great. Than I went to install Windows 7 on my computer from a usb thumb-drive. Everything went smoothly until I got the the first restart. When the computer turned on again, all fans were turning, hard drive was spinning, and led lights turned on but my monitor went black saying no connection, and none of my usb ports work (no lights on my keyboard or mouse).
I'm trying to install Windows 7 Professional 64 bit Edition on new SSD.I'm using a USB keyboard and USB mouseI turn on the computer and the keyboard works. I can enter the bios and use the mouse as well in the bios GUI.I set the computer to boot off the cd-drive. Open the cd-drive. Place Windows 7 inside and restart the system. Now the system boots off the cd and Windows 7 installer disk does its thing.Eventually I reach the page where it reads "Install NowI go to move the mouse. The mouse doesn't work. I try the keyboard. The keyboard doesn't work.To resolve the issue I had to power down the system, unplug the usb keyboard and use an old PS2 keyboard just to get the keyboard to work and install Windows 7.My question is what was the problem and if it occurs next time how do I resolve this issue
I have an ASUS P5E-VM HDMI mobo and running Windows 7 Professional. The mobo has a VGA and HDMI and dual monitor capabilities. I have my computer monitor on VGA and my TV on HDMI. When I have both monitor and TV connected, I lose the Windows 7 startup animation. It uses the Vista animation instead. When I have just the computer monitor alone, on VGA or HDMI, the Windows 7 animation comes back. How can I make the Windows 7 be used even if both monitor and TV are connected?
Motherboard fried, so got a brand new system, with SSD. However, old xp installation is on the SATA drive. I'm fresh installing Windows 7 Pro from Upgrade media onto the SSD.
What I've done so far:
1. Installed Win 7, (custom option) without entering the product key.
2. Just updated all the drivers and many many many window's updates.
3. Now re-inserted the Win 7 DVD and chose Upgrade.
Will entering the product key work this time? I'd already done it once before and it didn't.
I do have a copy of Win XP with the product key, however, it's for a win32 system, and this Win 7 is 64bit. I'm hoping that having the old sata drive connected, which contains the winXP installation, will somehow atleast validate it, if this double install won't. I don't know...
I've gathered all the parts for my new build but am not sure what order to tackle the software part. I'm confident I am able to strap it all together its only the tech stuff that scares me.
1. Strap everything together (minus graphics card) 2. Power on 3. Update bios via usb 4. Install windows 7 5. Do I update chipset and all other mobo drivers? or is windows update competent enough to do this? 6. Plug in graphics card 7. Boot up and install graphics card software.

The problem with the above configuration is that when I try to install Windows 7, the machine freezes (hangs) randomly, I have tried formatting and installing for at-least 4-5 times now but what happens is the setup doesn't work and stops during installation, last time the setup was successful but it hangs the workstation without any reason. I have also tried installing the same CD on other system and it works fine.
I have a Compaq f500 that was running Vista home premium. I did a fresh install of Windows 7 ultimate. It went thru the install with no problems. When it got to the screen when you put in your name I discovered that the keyboard doesnt work. I tried plugging in an external keyboard and it doesn't work either. Also cant select safemode or anything that requires use of the keyboard to enter.
I have Windows 7 Professional x64 and autoplay is set to play using Windows Media Player but DVD's, and CD's spin but nothing comes up on the screen or audio.
Smallish yet irritating problem with my Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit install - Autoplay doesn't work, and hasn't since I was forced to reinstall a couple of weeks back.Doesn't work for discs inserted, USB flash drives, memory cards, external HDDs plugged in etc (Firewire & ExpressCard/34 not tested). I have of course gone to the Autoplay settings and restored defaults, also tried setting every category (DVD, CD, etc) at "Ask me every time". No luck. I was working fine on the same OS before before I had to reinstall fresh, also on x86 version of Win 7, and on Vista.Nothing wrong with the USB ports/disc drive, inserted media is still detected.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NW270F 15" laptop with Windows 7 (64 bit) Home Premium. 320 gb. Oh i'm also out of warranty.Computer always freezes at the point where it says "starting windows" and stays frozen. I even left it for alone for 24 hrs and it stayed on that screen.
Things I've tried:
1. I used safe mode to repair windows = just restarted in normal mode and froze at "windows is starting"
2. Used safe mode to restore to earlier point = could not to restore message
3. Created repair disc from another Vaio win 64 = froze at "windows is starting"
4. Used registry clean and malware bytes in safe mode = malware bytes found nothing & reg clean did nothing
5. Fresh install of windows 7 = windows bar loaded then froze at "windows is starting"
6. Reformatted hard drive & performed fresh install = windows bar loaded 7 froze at same point
7. Bought new Western digital 320 gb SATA Hard drive & tried install of win 7= same results
