View 0 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop that's set up with the background of an office with empty shelves, and I put my icons on the shelves to make it look cool. Due to this, I don't have my icons set to be aligned to any sort of grid, I just move them where I want, making it frustrating to move them back into place. Now, I notice that from time to time some of the icons or folders on my desktop will be out of the place I put them in, and will have moved themselves back to the place they were prior to moving them into the place I want them to be. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I notice it happens with icons and/or folders that have recently been updated or had something new put in them.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter imaging many, many Win 7 systems, we discovered that the Desktop | View | "Auto Arrange" option and "Align to grid" option were off. We want them on (because the computers are in public spaces). Is there a set of registry settings or group policy settings that we can use to turn those options on?I have found that a registry setting([HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellBags1Desktop] "FFlags"=dword:00200220 ) is related to those options, but just changing that key (to "FFlags"=dword:00200225 ) does not do anything. Refreshing the RegEdit screen just changes the value back to its previous value.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe other day I was browsing a website and Norton Internet Security pops up saying that a Trojan has been blocked (I don't have a screenshot of it, but that's pretty much all it said). So I exited the website and told Norton to do a full system scan later that night and fell asleep. When I woke up, all it found were some tracking cookies, which it deleted. However, I now had a problem on my computer: all files in every folder will auto arrange themselves every time the folder is opened or refreshed. The same happens on the desktop. Auto arrange is not checked.
Inside folders, the default setting is always "View > Details" and "Sort by > Name > Ascending." The icons on the desktop are still medium, but they are arranged in an odd order, it seems to be alphabetical but in an odd way. I had all my desktop icons arranged in a specific way, so now it's hard to try and find programs that I need. It's also extremely difficult to find any files because of this setup too. To clarify, here's an example of what happens: I arrange the icons the way I want (here being by "Date Modified"), but... If the folder is refreshed or reopened, computer is restarted, etc, then the folder resets to this default.
For some reason, whenever I go to change the background on my desktop it automatically stretches it and won't let me save any other option such as center, fix, or tile.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm encountering a very frustrating problem connecting to my office PC (which is Windows 7 Professional). No matter what client I use (Windows 7 built in remote desktop from a W7HP machine, Remote Desktop Client on Android, etc.) when I log on to the host machine it re-logs me on. Basically it seems to kill the previous log on session, logs it off, and then logs me in anew. This is really annoying. It closes all open apps and makes me reopen them. It takes much longer than a usual connection. I can't seem to find any reason for why this might happen, the only difference between this and the thousands of connections I've made over the years using RDP is that this is being done over our work VPN (A SonicWall VPN client). I don't see why that would make any difference but it's the only variable.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhy do I get this?. Desktop Window manager stopped working and was closed? I am using motherboard P4S8X with Windows 7 just install. And 2 gb memory.
It maybe a driver issue with the MOBO or some other device. Try and update the MOBO drivers to start with and see if that does anything. If worse comes to worse, you can do a start repair by booting from the W7 DVD.
I was actually thinking this was more specific to the video driver, as DWM has close ties to it...
