View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two instances of windows 7 on my PC. I did a clean install on my C: drive, I have three hard drives c d & e. I am unable to format my e drive because I'm pretty sure that is where some win 7 system files are, I've formatted my d drive. I'd like to know how to get rid of the second win 7 boot. Its corrupted and won't complete a boot up
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an odd problem with my Windows 7 installation. The computer I'm trying to install it on is running Windows XP, and any time I try to boot from the disk (I have it set to be first in the boot sequence), it seems to just skip over the disk altogether and run boot from the hard drive (into Windows XP). I looked into this further, and it turns out that the computer sees the disk as being blank (0 bytes out of 0 total bytes).
When I put it into other computers, it is read fine, and I have even used this disk to install multiple copies of Windows 7 on other computers. The computer that isn't working can read any other disk fine, and has never had DVD-drive related problems. I've even tried copying the files from the Windows 7 disk onto another DVD, as well as a portable USB drive, but those didn't seem to work either (it gave me some error about the disk not being bootable).
Formatting disk and drivers faq?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm in a bit of a pickle here. My CD drive won't allow me to boot from CDs anymore, for whatever reason. I have 2 partitions on my hard drive and I'm wondering if it's possible to format the main partition by copying the windows setup files to my secondary and then somehow running them from there, whilst wiping the main one. I really don't want to reinstall without formatting, but right now I have no other option.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled windows, and went with AHCI for eSata hot swap. 2 of my 6 drives did not appear in my computer. 1 of them I just assigned a drive letter in DM and it is fine. The other, which was previously working, says it requires initialization, which I did, and assigned a drive letter. I stopped short of performing a format ( to preserve the data) but it is listed as raw and inaccessible.
I am not sure what to do now as I have a raw drive that I cannot access...which a few hours ago had several hundred gigabytes of data. The drive in question is a 1tb seagate 7200.11. The other thing I did was move the drive from a jmicron controller to an intel controller on the MB. All 6 drives are now on the intel controller sata ports.
i have 500gb external hard disk n 3 partition in it.. now al 3 disks am not able to open . tried formatting but it gives error msg saying i cant format the disk..tried using command prompt as well but no use .so how can i format the diskd now?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Win7 ultimate 64bit I recieved from a friend. I assumed it was one of his Microsoft apps he gets in his MSDN subscription for free. Anyway, every now and then I would get these pop-ups from Microsoft saying its not genuine. He would give me a script to run that would fix it, until it would happen again.Bottom line I foud out later this was pirated software so I purchased a normal copy (win7 pro 64 bit) to do a reinstal of the software, BUTTTTT now I can't do it because I keep getting these errors saying "Windows was unable to create the required instalation folder 0x80070005". I know the last update for the pirated copy was something to remove "RemoveWAT.exe". I tried to do a restore in Win7 to a previous state but it errored "0x80070001"Any advice on what to do. I don't want to have to reformat the whole drive, because this was a dual boot on a new MAC so I could boot in iether MAC or Win7.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen attempting to backup a system image and/or selected libraries or files on an OEM installation of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, I am receiving an error message. The initial pop-up states: The Last Backup Did Not Complete Successfully When I click on the pop-up to check the backup and select More Details, I see the following message. The System cannot find the file specified Error Code: 0x80070002 No additional information is provided. (And no clue is provided regarding what file is not found.) While I am attempting to backup to an external hard drive connected via eSATA, this error also occurs when I attempt a backup to either an external USB drive or a DVD.
I have attempted to run various backup scenarios wherein [a] Windows selects what to backup, [b] I choose a system image only, [c] I choose libraries only, or [d] I choose a very small data directory in a directory outside of the libraries. The error is always the same. When the system image is included, the backup does run for a time before the error message occurs and a significant amount of data is written to the drive. When I run a file-only backup, the error is almost instantaneous. So far, in attempting to resolve the problem I have taken the following steps (although not necessarily in this order): Confirmed the registry profiles image paths are accordance with the information found at: The Storage Team at Microsoft - File Cabinet Blog : Common causes and solutions to Backup, System Restore, and Complete PC Backup problems - updated!. Everything was correct, no problems found. Ran the system file checker (sfc /scannow) with no errors reported. Scanned all hard drives (chkdsk x: /r) Confirmed that VSS and Windows Backup Services are running via services.msc Although I didnt think it applied, I tested the Hotfix suggested at: You encounter problems when you move data over USB from a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset and at least 4GB of RAM. No success. Reviewed the information at Error code 0x80070002 when you back up files in Windows 7 however the scenarios did not apply and therefore the solutions were not available to me. Checked the error logs at C:WindowsLogsWindowsBackup, but the error log is empty . Ran a Clean Boot via msconfig.exe Attempted to run Backup in Safe Mode, but of course Backup & Restore cannot be run in safe mode, even if I try to start the services manually (Error 1084). Reset Backup Files Configuration, using instructions at: Backup User and System Files - Reset to Default Configuration I am extraordinarily frustrated. This is a new computer, and an almost new installation of Windows. I have obviously missed something, but dont know what it is. I am desperate for a solution.
I had installed ubuntu 10.10 on my lap Dell N5010 model recently, After few days i got blue screen error message then i decided to format my hard disk, with a windows 7 ultimate version which i got through internet. then i thought to format the system completely so while installing i went to advanced disk options and deleted all drives when i did this the drive which has name primary is detected after installation. the drivers which are under category of logical are not getting displayed in my computer and also in partition manager it is showing as unusable space.

I'm running windows 7 professional 32bit, Virgin broadband so i have their free virus and spyware program, virgin media security (old PCGuard) .
Recently when i perform a virus scan it has started to hang up when it reached the C: / Windows / temp / tmp00002b12c folder. So because it was hanging i decided to empty the temp folder.
All items went to the C:recycle.bin, then i performed the virus scan again, this time it now hangs on the same particular folder when scanning the C: / recycle.bin
So i emptied the recycle bin and even now it still hangs on the same folder and is unable to complete the virus scan, the virus scan stops dead as soon as it reaches this point, just hangs there until i force close the anti virus software.
I have read and digested a lot of information explaining that the files do not get deleted, only the index to the file when emptying the recycle bin, but i can not seem to find a way to solve my problem, how do i get access to this file that exists on my drive to clear it to allow me to complete a virus scan??

View 9 Replies View RelatedI got some bad malware and removed it with a complete re-install of windows 7. I deleted all partitions and re-installed Windows 7 from that point. I went to the Gateway website and got all of the drivers for the equipment on the computer and it still runs painfully slow. I've run CCcleaner several times, done DSKCHK (because I suspected my hard drive might be faulty) and everything says I have no problems.

I have tried safe mode but it won't let you install in safe mode, when shutting off the system or restartingit always gets to setup is starting services page and then the error message.
