Formatting (E) Windows 7 Was Unable To Complete The Format?
Oct 15, 2011
I have two instances of windows 7 on my PC. I did a clean install on my C: drive, I have three hard drives c d & e. I am unable to format my e drive because I'm pretty sure that is where some win 7 system files are, I've formatted my d drive. I'd like to know how to get rid of the second win 7 boot. Its corrupted and won't complete a boot up

I have a Win7 ultimate 64bit I recieved from a friend. I assumed it was one of his Microsoft apps he gets in his MSDN subscription for free. Anyway, every now and then I would get these pop-ups from Microsoft saying its not genuine. He would give me a script to run that would fix it, until it would happen again.Bottom line I foud out later this was pirated software so I purchased a normal copy (win7 pro 64 bit) to do a reinstal of the software, BUTTTTT now I can't do it because I keep getting these errors saying "Windows was unable to create the required instalation folder 0x80070005". I know the last update for the pirated copy was something to remove "RemoveWAT.exe". I tried to do a restore in Win7 to a previous state but it errored "0x80070001"Any advice on what to do. I don't want to have to reformat the whole drive, because this was a dual boot on a new MAC so I could boot in iether MAC or Win7.

When attempting to backup a system image and/or selected libraries or files on an OEM installation of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, I am receiving an error message. The initial pop-up states: The Last Backup Did Not Complete Successfully When I click on the pop-up to check the backup and select More Details, I see the following message. The System cannot find the file specified Error Code: 0x80070002 No additional information is provided. (And no clue is provided regarding what file is not found.) While I am attempting to backup to an external hard drive connected via eSATA, this error also occurs when I attempt a backup to either an external USB drive or a DVD.
I have attempted to run various backup scenarios wherein [a] Windows selects what to backup, [b] I choose a system image only, [c] I choose libraries only, or [d] I choose a very small data directory in a directory outside of the libraries. The error is always the same. When the system image is included, the backup does run for a time before the error message occurs and a significant amount of data is written to the drive. When I run a file-only backup, the error is almost instantaneous. So far, in attempting to resolve the problem I have taken the following steps (although not necessarily in this order): Confirmed the registry profiles image paths are accordance with the information found at: The Storage Team at Microsoft - File Cabinet Blog : Common causes and solutions to Backup, System Restore, and Complete PC Backup problems - updated!. Everything was correct, no problems found. Ran the system file checker (sfc /scannow) with no errors reported. Scanned all hard drives (chkdsk x: /r) Confirmed that VSS and Windows Backup Services are running via services.msc Although I didnt think it applied, I tested the Hotfix suggested at: You encounter problems when you move data over USB from a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset and at least 4GB of RAM. No success. Reviewed the information at Error code 0x80070002 when you back up files in Windows 7 however the scenarios did not apply and therefore the solutions were not available to me. Checked the error logs at C:WindowsLogsWindowsBackup, but the error log is empty . Ran a Clean Boot via msconfig.exe Attempted to run Backup in Safe Mode, but of course Backup & Restore cannot be run in safe mode, even if I try to start the services manually (Error 1084). Reset Backup Files Configuration, using instructions at: Backup User and System Files - Reset to Default Configuration I am extraordinarily frustrated. This is a new computer, and an almost new installation of Windows. I have obviously missed something, but dont know what it is. I am desperate for a solution.

I'm running windows 7 professional 32bit, Virgin broadband so i have their free virus and spyware program, virgin media security (old PCGuard) .
Recently when i perform a virus scan it has started to hang up when it reached the C: / Windows / temp / tmp00002b12c folder. So because it was hanging i decided to empty the temp folder.
All items went to the C:recycle.bin, then i performed the virus scan again, this time it now hangs on the same particular folder when scanning the C: / recycle.bin
So i emptied the recycle bin and even now it still hangs on the same folder and is unable to complete the virus scan, the virus scan stops dead as soon as it reaches this point, just hangs there until i force close the anti virus software.
I have read and digested a lot of information explaining that the files do not get deleted, only the index to the file when emptying the recycle bin, but i can not seem to find a way to solve my problem, how do i get access to this file that exists on my drive to clear it to allow me to complete a virus scan??

I've gotten a copy of Windows 7 prof last year and it had worked perfectly. Recently I've decided to give my hdd a format, and when I tried to install Windows 7, I got to the welcome screen, asking me for a user and pw log.
I have never set any password on this computer before the format, and have never set any administrator password at all! I used to switch on the computer, and let it boot all the way to my desktop without needing to key in anything.

I bought two new Western Digital AV-GP WD3200AUDX drives. They're advanced format drives designed for audio-video editing folks, but essentially they're just a bit better than any standard SATA drive (per reviews I've read).
My Config:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64
Asus P6T Deluxe V2
2x WD AV-GP drives (320GB each, RAID0)
I would install them into a RAID0 (striping) configuration and then install Win7 Home Premium 64. The problem is that if I enable RAID in the BIOS, windows WILL NOT recognize these drives and thus I can't install to them. I saw that there's a problem with earlier versions of Intel RST and that you can either download new drivers or upgrade to Win7 SP1 which includes the fix.[URL]
Problem: I can't install, so I can't use the new drivers. The driver disk they have available for installation is (a) meant for XP and such, not Win7... and (b) doesn't work anyhow.Another Problem: I installed Win7 to a separate drive in IDE mode and upgraded to SP1, but now Windows has a boot loop and windows startup repair is telling me SP1 is the issue. The theory here was that I would get SP1 up and running with the drivers, then tell Windows to do an upgrade/clean install over to the new RAID drive (which it would hopefully recognize now) and download updates prior to the installation, thus enabling it to work during install. The only thing I can try doing (that I haven't yet) is updating the BIOS, but none of the newer updates mention anything about drives or storage compability, so I don't think it'll have any effect.

I recently upgrade my entire computer, with it i brought a 2TB WD HDD. I set everything up, installed Windows 7 and updated all my drivers/etc.
I then moved my old 3x 1TB drives over, in it, one partition had my old Windows 7, I am unable to format/delete windows folder/program files. One HDD had my old Vista partition, same story..i can't format/delete.
What i basically want to do is, take those 3 drives, format and re-set them into 1TB 1 Parition drives. Now i have 1.6TB space left on my 2TB drive, so i can put one entire drive over and format the old, repartition to 1...
How can i get about this? I don't understand why the boot system will have problems because when i installed Windows 7 it had no other drives to see..

So to give an idea of whats going on: D: Drive is where Vista USED to be. C: Is where I put 7. E: Is a small drive I dropped in for XP.
Now that 7 is on C: I have no real use for Vista and want to format D: for storage of all non-system files. However its not letting me delete all the files (it shows about 50+ GB os files in D:Program Files and D:Windows from the old installation) OR Format the drive because it treats is as a system drive. Any way around this?
