I bought new hp laptop.. it came with 500 GB harddisk, windows 7 home basic, I didn't get any windows cd apart from recovery in hard disk. My windows is installed in c: and that is the only drive that it have... now the situation..
1) I want to partition my harddisk without losing windows means I don't want to format C: drive 2) I also want to install linux in dual mode with windows..
Second question is related to first one because I don't need any method that may lead to situation like I can't install any other operating system.
I had installed ubuntu 10.10 on my lap Dell N5010 model recently, After few days i got blue screen error message then i decided to format my hard disk, with a windows 7 ultimate version which i got through internet. then i thought to format the system completely so while installing i went to advanced disk options and deleted all drives when i did this the drive which has name primary is detected after installation. the drivers which are under category of logical are not getting displayed in my computer and also in partition manager it is showing as unusable space.
I have a format activity on my laptop. Before formatting, I had two partitions. Now after formatting I am able to locate the other partition via disk management service. but it is not showing under my computer. What should I do?
When i connect a sata hard disk which is loaded with windows 7 as a secondary to another windows 7 system to take the data backup it is not showing the drives but i can see it in the device management in windows 7.
My friend's laptop (Acer Aspire One 722 - Windows 7 x64) has been shut down after opening an email and Windows never started up again. When you attempt to start up the windows, it stays the black screen and says "No bootable Device Found"! I inserted Windows Live Disk and loaded it (Windows XP Mini - Golden Edition). When I went to "My Computer", it did not show any local drive. I went to "Disk Management" and in there, there was also no unallocated or allocated space. I even removed the HDD and plugged it back in. No thing happened. Then I removed the RAM card and inserted it back. Again, nothing happened! By the way, HDD had movements when laptop was on (I had removed the beneath panel).I inserted Windows 7 Disk to install a fresh Windows 7. But when you get to the part where it asks you to choose the partition to install the operating Sustem, it shows one unallocated drive with 0 (Zero) capacity! The options to Delete and format are disable. Only the option "New" is active and it gives you (0) bite to partition!
I'm currently using a Windows 7 PC built by a friend of mine, but starting yesterday, its been acting up. The problem is there used to be two hard drives I can access, Drive B and Drive C. When I boot up the computer, BIOS only detects Drive C (if I'm not mistaken), and Disk Managements as well. I realized this when all the programs whose targets are on that drive are all broken on the desktop. So Drive B doesn't show up anywhere at all.
I have a 1 TB Western Digital Caviar Black hard disk. While installing Windows 7, a screen for hard disk partition was asked. I created 4 drives: 200 GB, 200 GB, 200 GB and 400 GB. And then the windows 7 got installed. But now when I log into my PC, I can only see first 3 200 GB drives. Where did my 400 GB drive go? What mistake did I do and how can I recover it back?
When turning on, the screen will display the windows startup animation and once finished a blank screen. After about 30 seconds to a minute a black screen pops up and asks if i would like to start up normally or run startup recovery. The Normal start up fails and ends up returning to the first black screen. When i run startup repair it says it cannot find a solution. I sent error message and the log said:All tests performed were successful.Root cause found: boot status indicates that the OS booted successfully.Root cause found: bad hard disk: Bugcheck 7a. Parameters = 0xfffff8a000efeb80, 0xffffffffc0000185, 0x1753e08c0, 0xfffff900c0770000.Each session reported a single root cause which ended up being one of those two. After that i went under additional options and signed into system recovery using one of the users and selected startup repair again and went under problem details:

I tried looking up aolutions online but couldnnt find one that was identicle. I then tried diskcheck using command prompt, under C: /F and /R.Sometimes the processes would complete with no errors or solutions and sometimes the processes would get stuck on a certain file and would not move even after 10 to 20 mins alone. Although when the processes do complete at the bottom they would say something along the lines of "log could not be saved : status 50" or something. The computer runs Windows 7 64-bit and is an Asus A35S series.
I'm in a bit of a pickle here. My CD drive won't allow me to boot from CDs anymore, for whatever reason. I have 2 partitions on my hard drive and I'm wondering if it's possible to format the main partition by copying the windows setup files to my secondary and then somehow running them from there, whilst wiping the main one. I really don't want to reinstall without formatting, but right now I have no other option.
I reinstalled windows, and went with AHCI for eSata hot swap. 2 of my 6 drives did not appear in my computer. 1 of them I just assigned a drive letter in DM and it is fine. The other, which was previously working, says it requires initialization, which I did, and assigned a drive letter. I stopped short of performing a format ( to preserve the data) but it is listed as raw and inaccessible.
I am not sure what to do now as I have a raw drive that I cannot access...which a few hours ago had several hundred gigabytes of data. The drive in question is a 1tb seagate 7200.11. The other thing I did was move the drive from a jmicron controller to an intel controller on the MB. All 6 drives are now on the intel controller sata ports.
I'm fully formatting a second hard drive in my computer and it's a 3tb drive so it's going to take a while. I was wondering if I could watch videos I have on my other drive or if that would cause the process to run less efficiently or even skip sectors it was supposed to check.
I had a really bad virus on my Dell Windows 7 computer. I am now trying to format the Hard drive and load a new version of XP on the system. Every time I try to format the hidden volume. I get Cannot Format x: this volume is write protected. How do I un-protect this volume so I can format this hidden volume.
i need to completely remove all from my hard drive so that i can run my restore discs i purchased from gateway- my computer is 6 mos old and came without dics as it had restore capabilities pre installed from factory.
Is there a way of formatting a drive without deleting windows? I am trying to install windows 7 with a legitimate key on a hard drive, however I do not have a CD. Is there any way of installing windows 7 without a cd?
I had Genuine windows 7. But while trying to partition my C drive error occurred and i had to completely format my hard disk. Now how can I re install my windows 7 or regain it back as before??
i have a hard drive disk and an enclosure to try and retrieve my pics, images and documents of my old on to my new laptop, but it keeps asking to format the E: drive disk, but this would defeat the object of trying to get them back
