My son has a problem on his PC where everytime he starts up his computer or reboots he can't connect to the internet and the little network icon in the corner of the screen has a yellow warning sign. If you disable the network adapter and then re-enable it then the problem goes away.

I have installed Windows 7 RC on 3 computers and setup the network as a home network, skipped creating "home-group" I have 2 XP systems on same network that I need to access. Anyway, I cant seem to figure out why/what this unknown device in my network map is? It shows up on all the computers that have the RC installed. I have attached a pic of this.
Any ideas?

same setup when BETA was installed and didnt have this issue. No 3rd party firewall or network software is installed.
I recently purchased a USB 2.0 Network Cable. I have been unable to find the necessary drivers to support the cable. I bought it from a wholesale website, and there's no manufacturer disclosed on the box or the website.
The disk that came with the cable has drivers, but they don't work on windows 7, and the pop-up tells me to contact the manufacturer, which of course I cannot do.
If you could help me find the appropriate drivers, I'd really appreciate it. If not, then I would like to return the product since I am unable to use it.
I have a home network connecting 4 computers, 2 print servers, and a media bridge to a Linksys wireless router. Pretty much the same setup from XP to Vista to Windows 7.
After installing Windows 7 x64, I am seeing a device under the category "Infrastructure (1)" on my Windows Network screen. It identifies itself as "WNR843Bv" - a Netgear router - which is definitely NOT a device on my network! Maybe it belongs to a neighbor, I can't verify this. Other than this - the network is functioning as expected.
I use WPA2 encryption and MAC Address filtering on my Linksys router, so I am (reasonably) confident that this device is not connected to my network. However, I am not comfortable with this.
Can anyone help me understand :
(1) What is an "Infrastructure (1) device?
(2) Why is it showing up on my Network screen in Windows 7?
(3) How can I get rid of it?
I have a new Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 7 Business and went to connect to my wireless home network on a Linksys router and Win 7 detects other networks in the area, but my network SSID is not listed. I reset the router thinking that maybe the issue, but I havd another laptop and desktop and both are working fine with the network and router on the web.I then realized that Win 7 had in the available wireless listings a "unknown" network, when I select that network to connnect it ask for an SSID, It type in my SSID and it then connects to the internet.
BUt when I turnoff or reboot the laptop it will not automatically reconnect at start up. I have selected in the preferred wireless networks to connect automatically, but because it keeps seeing an unknown wireless network, I have to manually reconnect and re-type in my SSID.Does anyone know why Win7 keeps seeing my Linksys as an unknown network and how to make it reconnect automatically at startup.
As you can see from the screenshot on imgur, a device recently began to appear in my network. I assume the device named Jennings-PC is a wifi enabled device that is being detected by some node om my network. Any one else experiecned similar issues or know how to prevent it from appearing? My network is secured using WPA2, the device is not associated with the router in any way. [URL]

I have gone done the following: 1. Same user names and password 2. disabled windows firewall and avg free. 3. Answered "On" to all private network selections. 4. Local security policy to classic 5. Shared files I want to access. 6. Home group named as workgroup
The computer comes up in the Networking and Sharing. When selected I get the screen Logon failure: unknown username or bad password. I have even had my ISP pro look at this and he cannot figure it out. Same thing has happened to me in vista. I am using new win 7 installs. I can map drives with ip addresses and access.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I was booting one day last week I got a nasty BSOD when Windows was trying to load. Then on the next reboot Windows 7 said it couldn't load and needed to do the recovery OS option from the Windows 7 repair on the CD. Well, before trying that I did a cold reboot and it got back into the OS fine so I didn't think much of it. Now, I noticed Ghost shows the C: drive status as "Unavailable" and it can't back it up anymore. It does give me an option to restore from one of my old backups. I'm thinking the MBR got hosed up somehow or something like that. But I'm skeptical to run an MBR repair since I have that 100MB partition on my SSD where my OS resides.
Ghost Shot> This was about a week ago my Windows 7 started acting up right before the big patch Tuesday. I've been running it for over a year now and it's been solid. When I first set it up I installed it on my SSD (Intel 510 120GB) drive. One of the qualms I had with the install is Windows created a separate boot sector on the disk drive where it stored my boot files. This is known the the "system reserved" operating system files 100MB partition. Apparently the way to avoid this is to use a third party partition tool before doing the windows install. That way it will keep the Boot sector files on the same partition which is how I would of liked it for doing restores from Ghost 15,etc. Anyway, ghost was backing up my system C: drive before last week. I have yet to even try and use Ghost to see if it would successfully restore my OS but I've been using it to backup my C: drive anyways. Prior to last week it could backup my C: drive fine. I might try a Ghost restore point from a few weeks back before this happened but not sure yet[CODE]
I have a laptop with a Intel N6230 wireless card which I'm having a strange issue with. I can be connected fine to my wireless network but if I perform a reboot the laptop 'connects' to the network however has no internet access (nor can I access the router via its ip address).The only way i can get it working again is delete the wireless adapter via the device manager, let windows re discover and install it, and all is fine again - nothing else is required. It continues to work fine until I shut down and reboot where it drops again (sleep modes or hibernation do not cause any problem).

in order to fix it i need to DISABLE & ENABLE my network card and after this step the connection is back & i have internet. Someone know why i have this problem & how to fix it for good?

Lately, when I restart the system, I can't get any internet connection. I can access shares on my home network, so the nic is working and I'm getting an ip address from my router. If I disable and reenable the nic, the internet connection works again. I've tried disabling firewalls and things like that, but the only thing that fixes it is the disable/enable.
The network "troubleshooter" can't see anything wrong, and everything looks like it's configured properly, and nothing has been changes since the initial setup. It worked fine for a couple weeks and now doesn't.
Anyone seen this before? Hints? The disable/enable isn't a big deal but I know at some point I won't be home and my wife will have a problem and I'd rather not deal with that!

If I go to "Network" on any PC only the Media Servers are shown and if I go to the Media Players, no shares are shown.If I turn off all other PC's and THEN restart my main PC all shares appear again.I have been searching the Internet but haven't found anything that worked.

My Laptop wireless always loves to obtain the 10.0.0.1 which is the ISA router/firewall. Obviously there is an IP conflict here because the TMG/ISA server/GATEWAY already has that..
This only happens after a reboot and the IP settings that it "desires" are the following:
IP: 10.0.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS: 192.168.1.1
It should be....
IP: 10.0.0.101
Subnet Mask: 255.0.0.0
Gateway: 10.0.0.1
DNS: 10.0.0.4 = MY DNS
DNS: 10.0.0.5 = MY DNS
Should I delete the network controller, or do I have to delve into the registry to get this crap sorted out? The Laptop ALWAYS connects to the N router but has a problem assigning the IP where it will just assign a bad IP or "first ip" in the sequence. There are times that I need to get beyond the firewall, and I need to assign it a class "c" but I don't understand why this should be having a bearing upon future connections. I have repeatedly reset the "arp" and DNS; to no avail.
I have typed this command at my last chance:
"netsh int ip reset c:
esetlog.txt"
Windows tells me that I am connected to the network but I do not get internet access after turning the pc on, waking it from sleep or restart. However, if I disconnect from the network and reconnect I have internet access immediately.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Win 7 ver 6.1 (build 7600) on Desktop and I have a Linux server. I don't use a password to logon to windows.
I successfully mapped Linux drives using my Linux user (which happens to be the same as the windows user) but on Linux I have a password. All the mappings were OK (4 directories) asking me on each one username + password + ticking the box called "retain credentials".
All went OK until I rebooted, then a message pop-up that "could not reconnect all network drives"...appeared: => the old stupid message from win XP.
Ok I opened My computer and surprise: My user and my password from the sharing pop-up window were gone! I've inserted them again and all went OK.
I thought they solved the old windows XP problem which clears the user + password from the Network drive mapping IF you do not have the SAME password as the mapped drives.
What can I do to retain that User+Password combination for good in Win 7 Mapping?
My computer hard drive crashed a week ago and most of my back-ups went with the system. So, I got a new 500 GB drive and have been re-installing everything from scratch. I started with a clean install of Windows XP (service pack 2), which took forever to get all the up-dates done. Then I upgraded to Windows 7 and did the up-dates for that. I didn't make a recovery disk at this point because I wanted to get everything installed first.Unfortunately, the last time I went to reboot it failed. When I power-up the computer it stalls out on the Dell BIOS screen. I can't get into Safe Mode, Setup, or the Boot Menu because my keyboard and mouses are not working. They are both USB and none of my USB ports are working. (Also, I have not PS/2 ports on my machine.).

Windows Explorer crashes when I try to access files from My Documents, My Music etc. This only seems to be when I access them from the start menu. If I go via My Computer > Users etc all is fine.2. After a short period of gaming, the computer freezes and starts running unbelievably slowly. It is unable to create textures on games and all I can see is characters on a blue screen. I have tried this on Fifa 11 (which now does not run at all), Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Counterstrike: Source. It seems to be fine with browsing and low-end programs though, so I can listen to music and use the internet all fine. All of the games are legally bought etc and worked fine. I left my computer for a few months while away and nothing has changed on it apart from a few windows updates.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got a new Dell Studio XPS 13 laptop a week or so back, loaded Windows 7 RC and everything worked fine after a bit of fettling here and there. On Tuesday or Wednesday I had a problem where the laptop locked up while using a Logitech USB Radio mouse. Thinking the mouse caused the lockup, I disconnected it and have been using the touch pad since and no lockups. So far so good.
Then today I plugged in a set of Logitech USB headphones for Skype and I got an 'unknown device' error. I tried with other USB items, ADSL modem, memory stick, all had the same problem on both USB ports and nothing I did would solve the problem. Much googling and a search of this forum again came up with nothing I could use.
I then had a flash of brilliance - I figured it must have been the mouse that started the problem when the laptop froze and somehow something was blocking the USB useage. I plugged in the mouse whereupon it loaded up the software and worked fine, and now everything else loads up and works OK too!
I can't explain it, I'm just a programmer and don't really understand computers but if it helps anyone else in the same frustrating situation, there it is.
I have Avast! Free Antivirus installed on my Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. Unfortunately this antivirus mistakenly sees a program as a virus and moves the file to its virus chest. There is a restore function for me to use that program again. Doing this some unknown files appear and I tried to delete it but some won't. Here is a screenshot.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi was in my downloads folder on my laptop, and noticed a file I hadn't seen before, it was a zip file and when I opened it, it contained Psd. documents that i had created literally years ago, and never opened since. the strange thing is that in properties, it tells me that the zipfile, and files within the zip, were last created and modified on the 15th oct 2012. which would be ten days ago. also i says that the time which i it was created was 9:30am. i know that my computer is never on that early in the morning So, my question is, does/can windows create a folder of its own accord? is this a case of ghosts in the machine?

I updated windows a few days ago and reinstalled the whole windows. I blocked it a few times but did a google search and the folder seems somewhat genuine windows folder but this particular file is not explained. Should I allow it? I have allowed it a couple times.

I can write a script to display the SDDL string for all my files, and to replace the SDDL string with the unknown user excluded, and leave it running for a few weeks (there are millions of files)?
This unknown "Local Disk Q" just showed up this morning, and my regular external drive was gone. I reconnected my external to another port, and that went fine, but this locall disk q remains, and can not be accessed, changed, removed, etc. I scanned for virus's, and all seems ok. How can I remove this, and where did it come from?
