System Thread Exception Not Handled

Nov 24, 2012

Some background info: I am running Windows 7 Ultimate. It is 64-bit. I am running it on a laptop. I have no idea why I got the BSOD, but I did get it today. Restarted the computer in safe mode, then restarted again in "regular" mode and everything was fine. I'm typing on the same computer now (it's the only one I have, okay?). Can't think of anything that would be wrong with the computer, except the charger broke (I'm pretty sure this is a charger issue, and a new one is in the mail) so the battery doesn't charge: I have to have the computer plugged in when I use it.

Blue Screen Error System Service Exception Error

I am having difficulty with drivers on my Acer Aspire 5253 system using Win 7. It is a couple months old. Within the last month, I have been getting random blue screen of death error messages in which the computer shuts down to prevent damage. The computer boots up fine without any problems. Boot Screen And Artifacts

Jul 29, 2009

When booting, the Windows boot.ini screen does not appear. It goes from my Bios directly to the windows install screen. I want to run in safe mode to check on artifacting (green dots) that started to appear, but I never get the choice. Is there something in 'msconfig/boot' that I need to highlite?

edit: I managed to get into Safe Mode by turning off the computer with Windows 7 running and then restarting. I did not see any artifacts. I rolled back to the previous driver and the artifacts are still there. It might be my video card.

Screen Artifacts - Unable To Boot

Oct 20, 2009

I was playing EVE online yesterday morning, and decided I wanted to see how far my machine could go with forced settings in the Nvidia Control Panel. It crashed after a few minutes and I thought 'Well, thats the limit. I'll turn them down to where they were.' I did, everything worked fine, and I shut the computer off.

Last night, however, I went to boot up the machine and During the initial dell loading screen (the BIOS load screen), There were wierd color glitches all over the place. After this, During the Nvidia RAID controller load screen, there were DOS charecters occuring at random intervals on the screen, interrupting the actual text (and these charecters werent normal charecters, one looked like the Delta symbol).

After Windows began to load (again, with bizarre color glitches), I would get a BSOD attributing the error to nvlddmkm.sys and it was conducting a physical memory dump. It would restart, go into system repair, wouldn't repair, and the loop would continue.

I COULD get into safe mode, however. After doing so, I tried uninstalling nvidia drivers, (and again with driver sweeper), and reinstalling. I would get a dialogue saying that Server Stereo wasn't installed properly.

Going into DXdiag told me that the machine no longer recognized the graphics card (all the fields were blank or listed as N/A under the display tab).

I decided to just go balls out and reformat using the XP disc that came with the computer. Again with the DOS charecters, which made navigating the windows setup screens a real pain (I did them by memory, mostly). As I went to bed, the reformat went, and even THAT screen was plagued by these mysterious charecters. It looked like a 1980s computer virus on my machine!

This morning, I awoke, led the windows installer process through what it needed (all the while enduring the color glitches that plagued safe mode). I left for work this morning while the Horribly designed Dell Installing Applications window was flashing. I'm currently still at work, so I can't provide super detailed explanations, but I hope someone can get me a prognosis.

Things on my list to do are:

Reinstall graphics drivers.

Reseat the Graphics Cards.

Reset CMOS.

Test cards on other machine.

If anyone's encountered this problem and a solution, please please PLEASE tell me. It would save me a great deal of stress and chain-smoking.

Artifacts On Top Of Starting Windows Screen, Freezing?

Jan 9, 2012

My Asus G73-JH laptop is currently freezing at the Windows Starting screen. I've read a lot of other forum posts that feature the same problem, BUT there is artifacting (bunch of colored dots) on the top of this screen that goes across the "Starting Windows" screen in a sort of horizontal line. Sometimes it just goes straight to the "Windows has failed to startup" screen. None of the System Recovery Options from the Startup Tool seem to help fix the problem, they've all been tried. Trying to boot in safe mode doesn't work either, as after it starts to load the files, the artifacting appears on the top again after about the third file and it freezes.

I have not made ANY major changes to anything on the system for over two months prior. Because of the artifacting seen, I imagine the video card is fried or malfunctioning. I called Asus and all they suggested to me so far was to reformat, because apparently they think its a driver issue, but I'd like to consider myself fairly tech savvy and believe that there has got to be a better solution that does not involve reformatting the hard drive, as I had a lot of important data that had been stored and not backed up the previous night before the unexpected freezing. The only things I seem to have access to is BIOS and the Startup Tool. I have a System Recovery Disc too, and am curious if there is a solution to this problem (I am not well versed in BIOS), and (assuming the video card is shot) if there would be a way I can access by data and possibly back it up before reformatting so I can persuade Asus support that my card is in fact shot so I can send it in for a replacement!

BSOD - System Service Exception Tdx.sys

Aug 28, 2012

my config:

Processor: AMD Phenom II x4 945 AM3
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-790FXTA-UD5 AM3, BIOS F2
RAM: DDR3 Mushkin 996776 4x4 GB (16GB)
graphics: Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950 GV-R795WF3-3GD

[code]....

SSD, Radeon HD 7950 and Mushkin ddr3 are the newest parts. But I'm experiencing random BSODs (ntoskrnl.exe). There were also BSODs related to dwm.exe, but they disapeared when I installed Catalyst 12.8. Sometimes there are hardlocks without BSODs - ctrs+alt+del doesn't work here so I have to do a hard reset.First I thought it might be related to Radeon 7950 and compatibility problems - F2 (2009) is the latest BIOS for my motherboard (there is also F3J but still beta). Now it seems to be ok after I installed Catalyst 12.8.Then I thought that the SSD connected to Marvell controller is the problem. Well, there is a problem cause BIOS sometimes cannot see this SSD. Now Im thinking of buying a newest motherboard... unfortunately. I updated Marvell Controller drivers, still the same.Next thing - I ran memtest86+ ver. 4.20 to check memory. Pass 0 (Modulo 20, Random pattern) - there's only one error:

Test 8, Pass 0, Failing address 00080073468 - 2048.4mb
Good: e17e40c8
Bad: e17e00c8
Err-Bits: 00004000
Count 1

Next pass - no error. I let Memtest complete 6 passes. I got only this one error.BIOS settings:

tCL: 9
tRCD: 9
tRP: 9
tRAS: 24

Ram voltage - 1.635v set memory voltage to 1.650V. First MemTest pass - no errors. Second pass also completed. I think that all four sticks are ok. I can't say it's overheating. I'd say the memory is getting warm (even not so warm), but not hot. Third MemTest pass also was completed. No lock ups. Probably too low voltage could generate errors.Today I got another BSOD:

BSOD System Service Exception

Nov 19, 2009

So I finally get everything installed and running. I updated my gfx drivers to the latest at the time(a couple weeks ago) and things worked.

The computer had been shut off for probably a week maybe longer. Turn the computer on, right after I login, bam, BSOD. system_service_exception.

So I do some searching on another computer. Most of the things come up talking about gfx drivers being the problem, but nothing definite.

I rolled back the drivers. Things work fine. ATI released a new driver catalyst 9.11. I install that, everything is fine. computer was shut down and restarted and still worked fine.

I fire up the computer tonight, bam, BSOD. Same message as before. So I rolled back the gfx driver and now it's working normal again.

Does it make sense for the computer to be working fine with the newer drivers, be shut down for a while, and then not work? Cause that doesn't make sense to me.

There's also not much information out there regarding this system_service_exception BSOD that comes up. It would be nice to have some better concrete info on it.

current setup:

System Service Exception When Plugged Laptop Into The TV

Yesterday I wanted to use my HP laptop with my TV so I connected it using an hdmi cable. Everything connected fine and I opened up my cyberlink youcam software to adjust the camera settings. I got up for a minute to do something and when I came back the computer had gone to the blue screen of death (displayed right on the tv screen). The error was SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. This is the first time this happened so im not sure what to think. According to the HP website all of my drivers are up to date so I don't think that would be the problem.

I attached the dmp file and screenshots of my system specifications.

BSOD System Service Exception Mostly/while Playing BF3 And/or WoW

Jan 16, 2012

Since building a new computer a few months back, I have been having issues with BSOD's while playing certain games like Battlefield 3 or Wow. But Skyrim and others are fine. I've tried many different drivers for ati and I'm currently using 11.12, but crashes still happen. I don't believe its a overheating problem as the temps are all low. WhoCrashed suggests a driver issue and has singled out ati as the possible issue a few times.

BSOD And System Service Exception Errors

Apr 28, 2011

While playing games like cod 4, Battlefield BC2, and some other games, all online the computer freezes and the only way to make it move again is to reset. I think it maybe related because all the problems happen while I'm connected to the internet. Lately it has crashed and it appears BSOD message. This is what it says:

Error name: "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION"
Technical Information:
"Stop 0x0000003b(0x000000000c0000096, 0xfffff880094f98f1, 0xfffff8800b411cc0, 0x0000000000000000)
kernel.amd64 - Adress fffff880094f98f1 base at fffff88009478000, Datestamp 4581d357"

I think it maybe related because this only happens when I do something on the internet. Watching a video or uploading something, or playing online games. Plus sometimes it freezes and not even the reset button works. I have to turn it completely off and in 5 seconds turns back again on its own. I don't understand much of it, but i went to event viewer and not all the errors are totally alike, so i don't know if that means the cause is different. I have lots of critical errors and all from the source: kernel power; and event: id 41. I have other errors with name "KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDELED" and other with no name.

System Service Exception BSOD. 0x3B

Dec 10, 2009

i have been having this issue since Vista. I will randomly get the BSOD 0x3B. I notice it happens a lot when i play call of duty 4 and the new call of duty modern warfare 2. I immediately thought it was my ram. I took out all of the sticks and ran the vista memory test (i know, probably not the best choice) on each individual stick and then all of them together. No issues found.

After testing the ram i thought it may be my GPU because of the fact that it happens a lot in call of duty. I figured maybe the way the game renders on the GPU, its probably using a bad portion of the GPU RAM. I planned on upgrading in the future so i went ahead and ordered a Radeon 5870. it will be here friday. Hopefully that will fix the issue.

Here are my current system specs. Maybe you will find something wrong with it. I have updated the BIOS, Video Drivers and motherboard drivers.

Intel e8400 @ 3.6ghz. Cooled with a Cooler Master V8. Max temps after playing for awhile about 43C.

Random "Bad Pool Header" And "System Service Exception" BSODs

Apr 16, 2012

i have been getting these "bad pool header" and "system service exception" bsods for about a day now (the "bad pool header" one tends to pop up more often then the other btw). i ran a registry cleaner which didn't work and ran memtest this morning and it showed that my memory was fine. the bsods tend to occur more often when i am playing a game or running some program that uses a bit more memory but it also happens when i am just on the internet. on the other hand, last night i did nothing but surf Internet for 3 hours and didn't get a bsod at all. however, since then i haven't been able to do anything for more than 10 minutes (without being in safe mode) without it crashing, and this morning it completely froze until i turned it off. my os is windows 7 home premium 64bit. it came preinstalled from the manufacturer and unfortunately i do not have the install disc. the entire laptop is less than 2 years old and there have been no major hardware changes and i have never reinstalled the os.

Firefox Artifacts On (classic Style) Taskbar?

I am seeing small artifacts on the upper edge of the taskbar (using classic view, I could use Aero if I wanted to). I'm not convinced that this is actually browser related, it is just that since I have a browser up full time, that is what is leaving artifacts behind. If I resize the bar, IE drag it up a notch and back to normal again, the artifacts go away (basically a refresh..).

Windows 7 Crashes / Freezes With Artifacts (Wavy Colored Lines)

Jan 24, 2012

I've been using my PC fine for the last 3 years. A month or so ago I updated to Windows 7 Ultimate x64. That too has been running fine, then today, after about 3-4 hours of use, in the middle of a game, my PC screen suddenly got weird wavy lines and colours all over it and crashed. Long story short this has now happened about 10 times. Interestingly, I thought it was a graphics card problem, so I tried it on my HD TV (both TV and monitor connected via HDMI) and it did it on the TV too. I then uninstalled the nvidia (8800gt) drivers and restarted my PC. It works fine in safe mode, and in normal mode, but I can't change my resolution to 1680x1050, (it's native resolution) without installing the nvidia drivers.

I don't know if the problem is the drivers, (but never had an issue before?) or with resolution, (monitor problem?) Every time I do install the nvidia drivers the PC restarts normally, screen looks fine, and the PC seems to run, until I click on anything with the mouse and then the wavy lines and weird colours appear again and I can't CTL-ALT-DEL, I have to hard reset it every time. Once I left it for 5 mins. and moved the mouse a little every min. or so and that was OK, but as soon as I click on anything, it freezes and artifacts again. Also, my antivirus flashed red a few times and so did the windows clock in the bottom right corner of the screen, (very odd!) when the PC first starts windows.

That made me think it could be a virus, (even though I'm very careful about what I DL), but I had Avast run through a deep clean check and it found nothing. I also tried to get Win 7 to repair itself, which did nothing either! I've tried reinstalling the drivers, using newer and older nvidia drivers and I've tried to install my HG216 monitor driver, but since it's a few years old there is no official Win 7 support and all I have is an inf. file I can't install on Win 7. I haven't included a dump file, I know a fair amount about computers but I haven't worked out how to do that yet. Also, since I have to hard reboot everytime, in my event view the only errors listed seem to be about 'power failure', so I don't know if the bug or whatever would show up in the dump file?
