View 4 Replies View Relatedsomething needed to be updated on his computer, so it was, then his computer crashed.then when it was starting up, when it started loading Windows, it would do a startup repair thingy. I tried everything I could to fix it, nothing worked. I reset/reformatted the hardware or whatever (the one that saves personal files) then when it reformatted and restarted, it would start reinstalling Windows (7 of course) and I keep getting an error message on a screen with the words 'Setup is starting services' that says 'Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this, computer, restart the application.' so I do, and then the same error message pops up after a split second again. He has a Dell (I believe,) Aspire, Intel Pentium t4500, intel GMA 4500MHD. That's all I can find out by looking at the sticker stuck inside the laptop.I wouldve come here before the format, but I barely found out about this website 20 minutes ago. Also I can run the system checker application thig for obvious reasons,

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn trying to revive my 2004 Dell Dimension 8400 [P4 630 3.0GHz, 3GB RAM, WD 500GB, Quadro FX570]. The P4 630 was -I think- the first 64-bit version. I ran the Win 7 compatibility test and it liked all the components. This was originally using XP, but I decided for it's second life to use Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. After a careful install of the OS, I added AutoCad 2007, Corel Technical X5, WP X4, Sketchup and a few others. The C: partition is 100GB and contains about 35GB.The 8400 ran very well and actually improved it's Passmark score slightly over the previous XP-64. The problem is, this setup requires running system restore almost every day. Plus, it seems to delete all but the last three restore points. Today, I ran restore twice and both times Win said the restore was unsuccessful.I was resigned to reinstalling everything. However, when restarting after the second attempt, it ran fine. I don't understand this aspectThe one questionable component is the sound card, which is an e-mu 0404PCI. This has XP ans Vista drivers, but the drivers for Win7 are from Creative (owns e-mu) but listed as "beta".
I can't find out the reason for these freezes at startup (unable to start), I might be doomed to restore 3 or 4 times a week!I just can't trust this computer a the moment, waiting for the next disaster. Am I pushing this elderly computer by using Win 7 64 Ultimate? I can revert it to XP if its 'worth it.
i tried o upgrade my system to windows 7 ultimate but in doing so i wiped out all memory how can i get it back to factory settings without spending a fortune?

can i use command prompt?
I just bought a new laptop. It has one hard drive (C/)with 600gb and I partitioned it. However Im not sure if i did this correctly. I had to provide a file path etc and the only place to save the partition (E/)was on the primary C drive itself. (So now theres a file on the C drive called "E" with its own amount of memory).
I made the new partion into a primary drive and it shows up as such on "my computer". The current OS is windows 7 home premium but now I want to install windows 7 ultimate. I realise that Ive done things kinda back to front - my question is: if i install the new windows 7 ultimate OS, will the partition remain as it is or will it be ereased because its located on the C drive?
I have had two separate computers with two separate o/s systems using Windows 7 ultimate, one installed directly from discs, one upgraded from Windows Home Premium. The restore has never worked on either of them. Another friend who has the same system has the same problem. It does work (or at least, it worked one time) in Windows Home Premium. Does system restore not play well with Windows 7 Ultimate 32x & 64x? Last computer was Dell Dimensions 4600 with 2GB RAM, 2 TB harddrive Windows 7 Ultimate 32x . The 2nd is a Dell Inspiron 2320 all in one with 8 GB RAM & 2 TB harddrive WIndows 7 Ultimate 64x . Maybe it is just Dell doesn't play well with Windows 7 Ultimate 64x? It does creat restore points manually and also automatically. Each time you attempt restore it simply never completes and the system message is always the same, Unfornately I forget what it was ended in 009. Dell was actually on line with me and trying their best and saw the system message but still couldn't figure out why it wouldnt work. We removed ALL the anti virus, we turned off firewalls, we used safe mode, none of them worked.

View 4 Replies View RelatedA month ago I started experiencing random system freezes (system halts for ~30sec and then resumes to work normally). I thought it was my Windows 7 going insane, so I did a clean install, but the problem is still present. I read somewhere that SP1 might be the cause, so I haven't done an update to SP1 this time - but the problem remains.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo to give an idea of whats going on: D: Drive is where Vista USED to be. C: Is where I put 7. E: Is a small drive I dropped in for XP.
Now that 7 is on C: I have no real use for Vista and want to format D: for storage of all non-system files. However its not letting me delete all the files (it shows about 50+ GB os files in D:Program Files and D:Windows from the old installation) OR Format the drive because it treats is as a system drive. Any way around this?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was running Windows 7 ultimate x64 on my system (specs below), and I usually let my computer go into hibernate as it does that automatically after some time of system inactivity. Usually it will boot back up with no problem but then last week I tried to boot it up, it crashed and said system error.. I can't remember everything it said as it was obviously coded; since then I haven't been able to bring up the same warning screens.
Instead what happened was I reinstalled windows 7 on the same drive, formatted and all, and after installation it would finalize my settings, etc. After which, it would do a final reboot and, after bios goes, the computer hangs on a command prompt type screen with just a flashing underscore. Asking my family members, they proposed it might be a hardware issue so I bought a new hard drive (Seagate Barracuda 1tb.. not sure if that matters) and tried installing windows on that drive; same exact problem.
I also tried different combinations of RAM with my board, including just one stick of RAM, tried taking out the video card, tried taking out the sound card, etc. No dice. So my dad took his drive from his computer, that has an install of VISTA x64, and I plugged it into my computer and it worked perfectly. Conversely, I plugged my drive with the Windows 7 install into his computer and it also worked perfectly. We tried playing around with a few settings in the BIOS, etc. but nothing gives.
SPECS:
MOBO: Intel DP45SG
Chip: Q6600
Ram: Hynix 2x2gb and 2x1gb kingston
Vid card: Zotac GeForce GT 610
Sound: Creative X-Fi Xtremegamer
BIOS: Should be up-to-date, irregardless it ran Windows 7 before

But when it attaches I get the message: "you need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it. Do you want to format it?" I clicked cancel, and then tried to right click -> explore. I then got the message: "F: is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."Out of all the tutorials I have read, the file should open just fine and let me explore it. Why is it asking me to format the disk? And is it safe to do so?The file system is listed as "RAW" and the status is "Healthy(primary partition)"I don't want to lose everything on the system image! View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a system I have used for a while now and I actually reformatted a few months ago. The system has been working great with no problems but recently during a boot up I noticed an issue. Right when Windows begins its setup to take you to the login screen I noticed a bluescreen and a quick reboot. So I used F8 to boot from the last known good config, no change. I went and disabled the automatic reboot after a crash so I could read the error and it's the:
"Process1_initialization_failed" error.
I looked around for that error and found this: Fix: STOP 0x0000006B PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED Blue Screen | The Windows Club
However, when I tried to get into the C: to remove that file, it said "Access Denied" and locked me out. I have yet to be able to get into the system since. To make matters worse I gave up and decided to just reformat the drive and start fresh. However, when I load up my Windows Installation DVD it is noticeably slow, it takes 5-10 minutes to go from step to step. So I got to the "Install" button screen, clicked it and it says "Setup is starting..." and then...nothing. It just stays on that screen for a long time, I gave it 30 minutes last night. So I'm unable to even reformat.

Install again, the new AFD hard drive into computer. Machine seems okay.. Use it for a couple days. Discover that Windows Update does not work. Says service is not running. but it is. I spent most of a day trying to resolve. can't fix it. Download an install a stand-alone fix does not work either.
