Disappearing Files After Properties Edit In Windows 7?
Aug 10, 2011this may be similar to some of the problems already mentioned but: we are editing images as we have done thousands of times before but today for some reason when we hit it he apply button the image file disappears. We can restore the file but everytime today we try to edit the properties of the file

Feb 25, 2012I just got a system running Win7 Ultimate and I hooked up my brother MFC 9700 multifunction printer; it does basic printing, but the front panel buttons to trigger a scan don't work. I tried installing the virtual machine, running the install disk from within XP, no luck. I shut down the virtual machine, then tried running "Windows fax and scan", it sees the device, opens up the "new scan" window - then gives me the error message "An error occurred while setting scanner properties. If another program is scanning, please wait for it to complete and try again." (I had reloaded MODI and MS Photo Editor earlier, could that be creating a problem?)

Aug 15, 2011After installing windows 7 x64 SP1 (Service pack only), System properties box/window won't open. As usual I right click on "Computer" - select "Properties" but nothing happens. There is a "Properties" option in right click menu, but it doesn't open anything.
There are other options I can not change like some Taskbar Properties options, I can install but when I click on Controll Panel -unisntall a program - nothing happens..... It looks like my Administrator account is kind of "limited". I double checked and it IS a Admin account.
Then I enabled Hiden Adminstrator account using windows 7 DVD Command Prompt. Still have exactly the same proplems as with my account.
Laptop came with Windows 7 Home premium preinstalled OEM Asus. Its a genuine copy straight from the manufacturer. I never reinstalled windows 7. I didn't have to, just working fine since always untill....Sp1 install Sp1 exe file downloaded from microsoft tried sfc /scannow with no success

Feb 13, 2012i cannot access system or properties in windows 7. i can open control panel but from there nothing will open. i know hijack this will fix it but dont know which line to fix. unfortuneately hjt wont even let me save the txt file so i can paste it.

I cannot get into System Properties any of the "normal' ways...-When I right click on "Computer" I do see "Properties" I click on it and the explorer window flashes once (like something tried to happen)-When I right click on "Computer" in the start menu, the start menu disappears (like it does when you open something)-When I use the keyboard shortcut (Windows key + Pause/Break) nothing happens. The only way I CAN get to system properties is by using the run command: "sysdm.cpl"

Mar 7, 2011So, I've been having a bunch of problems with BSODs lately and I've been struggling to find the cause because even after disabling automatic restart in the system properties, the damn thing still restarts. All I get is the Windows Error Reporting service starting up when the computer reboots and telling me my computer just Blue Screened. I'm pretty sure I could figure out what it is (I already know it's not RAM, because I ran memtest on it for 13 hours with no results) if I just could get at that error code on the blue screen, but that's hard to do when you never even see it.

Sep 11, 2010I have recently bought a computer from a friend (2nd hand). I ran msinfo32.exe in the run box and it shoot out the system information. On there I notice that the manufacture was incorrect and so it the model number. The desktop is a dell and the model is Inspiron 570 MT. I wanted to change it back to these vales but was unable to.I tried using regedit searching under to change data under the name Base Board Manufacturer, system family, system Manufacture and system product name. I've successfully replaced it with the correct manufacture and product name but as I recheck msinfo32.exe it was still unchanged. I tried restarting it hoping that it would refresh the msinfo32.exe but all it did was restoring all the data that I edited.

Jun 25, 2011I have just purchased a new 3XS system from SCAN computers (Vengence). The system has a 120GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. The SSD is used for the OS and programs and the HDD is supposed to be data. The SSD seems to be working fine and Windows 7 agrees. The same can be said for the HDD, however when opening the HDD folder in Explorer and clicking properties, the system reports that there is only 300MB or so on the drive.I have enabled, intialised and assigned a letter to the drive myself, after it was not detected by the OS. I did so in device manager/disk drives by right clicking the drive. When in Properties/Volumes and populating the data, the HDD is recognised as 1TB. It just seems to be the (E folder in Explorer that the device is shown as 300MB. I have tried to drag and drop a 15GB program folder into the Device folder, but it informs me that there is not enough space on the disk to do so.

Allow Access To Save/edit Files In C Drive (System Drive)
Dec 18, 2009I'm really hoping I find an answer to this question besides the one I've found on the internet a hundred times over (That's not a good idea, you shouldn't do it).
My question is: Is there a way to allow a user to create/edit files in the C drive (system drive), and in the Program Files contained there? Let's assume that this user is not only a local admin, but a domain admin as well.
The reason for this is I work for a company that does a lot of editing within these areas of Windows. We need to be able to create and edit files where they are stored. I know one way around we've found is to copy the item out of the folder, edit it, and put it back, but this is a pain in the butt.
I also know that most program need to "run as admin", so that's not the problem either. I've given this user every right and permission in the Security tab of the C drive, and had it propagate down through all files, folders, and sub-folders, and still I'm hit with an error that says "Access is Denied" or another one saying that I don't have the right privileges.
Please, if anyone knows how to change this in 7 it would be much appreciated. I know that this worked in XP, and I'm not looking for someone to tell me "this is a bad idea so don't do it", or "maybe it didn't work right in XP". I have seen enough of these.
UPDATE: I have been playing around with saving office and wordpad documents into the C drive, and into the Program files. It seems that I'm able to do both now (for some odd reason), but I still receive intermittent errors when trying to edit or copy/paste or cut/paste from one location to another.

Jun 13, 2012In trying to revive my 2004 Dell Dimension 8400 [P4 630 3.0GHz, 3GB RAM, WD 500GB, Quadro FX570]. The P4 630 was -I think- the first 64-bit version. I ran the Win 7 compatibility test and it liked all the components.This was originally using XP, but I decided for it's second life to use Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.After a careful install of the OS, I added AutoCad 2007, Corel Technical X5, WP X4, Sketchup and a few others. The C: partition is 100GB and contains about 35GB.The 8400 ran very well and actually improved it's Passmark score slightly over the previous XP-64. The problem is, this setup requires running system restore almost every day. Plus, it seems to delete all but the last three restore points. Today, I ran restore twice and both times Win said the restore was unsuccessful.I was resigned to reinstalling everything. However, when restarting after the second attempt, it ran fine. I don't understand this aspectThe one questionable component is the sound card, which is an e-mu 0404PCI. This has XP ans Vista drivers, but the drivers for Win7 are from Creative (owns e-mu) but listed as "beta".
I can't find out the reason for these freezes at startup (unable to start), I might be doomed to restore 3 or 4 times a week!I just can't trust this computer a the moment, waiting for the next disaster. Am I pushing this elderly computer by using Win 7 64 Ultimate? I can revert it to XP if its 'worth it.

May 10, 2012I just bought a new laptop. It has one hard drive (C/)with 600gb and I partitioned it. However Im not sure if i did this correctly. I had to provide a file path etc and the only place to save the partition (E/)was on the primary C drive itself. (So now theres a file on the C drive called "E" with its own amount of memory).
I made the new partion into a primary drive and it shows up as such on "my computer". The current OS is windows 7 home premium but now I want to install windows 7 ultimate. I realise that Ive done things kinda back to front - my question is: if i install the new windows 7 ultimate OS, will the partition remain as it is or will it be ereased because its located on the C drive?
Does System Restore Not Play Well With Windows 7 Ultimate 32x & 64x
Jul 27, 2012I have had two separate computers with two separate o/s systems using Windows 7 ultimate, one installed directly from discs, one upgraded from Windows Home Premium. The restore has never worked on either of them. Another friend who has the same system has the same problem. It does work (or at least, it worked one time) in Windows Home Premium. Does system restore not play well with Windows 7 Ultimate 32x & 64x? Last computer was Dell Dimensions 4600 with 2GB RAM, 2 TB harddrive Windows 7 Ultimate 32x . The 2nd is a Dell Inspiron 2320 all in one with 8 GB RAM & 2 TB harddrive WIndows 7 Ultimate 64x . Maybe it is just Dell doesn't play well with Windows 7 Ultimate 64x? It does creat restore points manually and also automatically. Each time you attempt restore it simply never completes and the system message is always the same, Unfornately I forget what it was ended in 009. Dell was actually on line with me and trying their best and saw the system message but still couldn't figure out why it wouldnt work. We removed ALL the anti virus, we turned off firewalls, we used safe mode, none of them worked.

Feb 8, 2013I was running Windows 7 ultimate x64 on my system (specs below), and I usually let my computer go into hibernate as it does that automatically after some time of system inactivity. Usually it will boot back up with no problem but then last week I tried to boot it up, it crashed and said system error.. I can't remember everything it said as it was obviously coded; since then I haven't been able to bring up the same warning screens.
Instead what happened was I reinstalled windows 7 on the same drive, formatted and all, and after installation it would finalize my settings, etc. After which, it would do a final reboot and, after bios goes, the computer hangs on a command prompt type screen with just a flashing underscore. Asking my family members, they proposed it might be a hardware issue so I bought a new hard drive (Seagate Barracuda 1tb.. not sure if that matters) and tried installing windows on that drive; same exact problem.
I also tried different combinations of RAM with my board, including just one stick of RAM, tried taking out the video card, tried taking out the sound card, etc. No dice. So my dad took his drive from his computer, that has an install of VISTA x64, and I plugged it into my computer and it worked perfectly. Conversely, I plugged my drive with the Windows 7 install into his computer and it also worked perfectly. We tried playing around with a few settings in the BIOS, etc. but nothing gives.

Oct 1, 2010I have a system I have used for a while now and I actually reformatted a few months ago. The system has been working great with no problems but recently during a boot up I noticed an issue. Right when Windows begins its setup to take you to the login screen I noticed a bluescreen and a quick reboot. So I used F8 to boot from the last known good config, no change. I went and disabled the automatic reboot after a crash so I could read the error and it's the:
"Process1_initialization_failed" error.

However, when I tried to get into the C: to remove that file, it said "Access Denied" and locked me out. I have yet to be able to get into the system since. To make matters worse I gave up and decided to just reformat the drive and start fresh. However, when I load up my Windows Installation DVD it is noticeably slow, it takes 5-10 minutes to go from step to step. So I got to the "Install" button screen, clicked it and it says "Setup is starting..." and then...nothing. It just stays on that screen for a long time, I gave it 30 minutes last night. So I'm unable to even reformat.

Mar 28, 2012I have a new Toshiba Qosmio X770 laptop with Dual 120 Gb SSD drives. From the factory it had Win 7 Home. I upgraded immediately to Win 7 Ultimate x64. I set up the VM to use XP (Have to use XP because current dev projects with work are stuck in old ages on XP for the time being). I can run the XP Mode in VM fine and even Visual Studios functions fine. There is a problem with the 3rd party drivers for the USB comm boards we are using, the USB drivers apparently cannot be shared across the VM environment for the particular ones we are using.
