when I right click computer and click properties, nothing happens. Same thing if I try to run system.exe from the start menu or access it through the control panel. I've just recently re-installed windows and I'm trying to activate it with my key.
When I search for the words in the thread title I only get references to UAC.Well, I do not think I am interested in UAC.In Windows NT4 it was possible to take any existing account and modify/customize its access rights, per system function. As in allowing standard user Joe to be able to change date, whithout elevation. I could edit the account rights of Joe, giving or removing just about any system access.I need to be able to give some system rights to a local standard account, without elevation. No admin password, no UAC, nothing. At the same time that standard account should not be able to access local policy or computer management or similar, other, system features.
After installing windows 7 x64 SP1 (Service pack only), System properties box/window won't open. As usual I right click on "Computer" - select "Properties" but nothing happens. There is a "Properties" option in right click menu, but it doesn't open anything.
There are other options I can not change like some Taskbar Properties options, I can install but when I click on Controll Panel -unisntall a program - nothing happens..... It looks like my Administrator account is kind of "limited". I double checked and it IS a Admin account.
Then I enabled Hiden Adminstrator account using windows 7 DVD Command Prompt. Still have exactly the same proplems as with my account.
Laptop came with Windows 7 Home premium preinstalled OEM Asus. Its a genuine copy straight from the manufacturer. I never reinstalled windows 7. I didn't have to, just working fine since always untill....Sp1 install Sp1 exe file downloaded from microsoft tried sfc /scannow with no success

i cannot access system or properties in windows 7. i can open control panel but from there nothing will open. i know hijack this will fix it but dont know which line to fix. unfortuneately hjt wont even let me save the txt file so i can paste it.
I recently went through the Malware forum to get rid of some nastiness on my machine...and there appears to be one small casualty left to fix. I cannot get into System Properties any of the "normal' ways...-When I right click on "Computer" I do see "Properties" I click on it and the explorer window flashes once (like something tried to happen)-When I right click on "Computer" in the start menu, the start menu disappears (like it does when you open something)-When I use the keyboard shortcut (Windows key + Pause/Break) nothing happens. The only way I CAN get to system properties is by using the run command: "sysdm.cpl"
So, I've been having a bunch of problems with BSODs lately and I've been struggling to find the cause because even after disabling automatic restart in the system properties, the damn thing still restarts. All I get is the Windows Error Reporting service starting up when the computer reboots and telling me my computer just Blue Screened. I'm pretty sure I could figure out what it is (I already know it's not RAM, because I ran memtest on it for 13 hours with no results) if I just could get at that error code on the blue screen, but that's hard to do when you never even see it.
I need to know how to disable system properties (right-click from my computer AND control panel) for only the limited users NOT the administrator. I am using windows 7 ultimate.
I have vista 64-bit installed on my dell laptop and hope this is the right forum. I installed it a couple days ago after formatting everything on the hard drive. Now when I right click on my computer in start menu the properties don't pop up. I dislike vista already but is this vista-related? or infected? I don't think so, since I installed it a couple days ago after another virus had infected the system
Like the title says when i click start , right click computer go to properties my processor and ram appear not available. Is there something i could do to fix this ?
I have just purchased a new 3XS system from SCAN computers (Vengence). The system has a 120GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. The SSD is used for the OS and programs and the HDD is supposed to be data. The SSD seems to be working fine and Windows 7 agrees. The same can be said for the HDD, however when opening the HDD folder in Explorer and clicking properties, the system reports that there is only 300MB or so on the drive.I have enabled, intialised and assigned a letter to the drive myself, after it was not detected by the OS. I did so in device manager/disk drives by right clicking the drive. When in Properties/Volumes and populating the data, the HDD is recognised as 1TB. It just seems to be the (E folder in Explorer that the device is shown as 300MB. I have tried to drag and drop a 15GB program folder into the Device folder, but it informs me that there is not enough space on the disk to do so.
Basically, all I want to be able to do is use the [ESC] button to close windows (ie Browsers, apps, games, anything that if selected and when a button is pressed will close it) in windows 7.
I always thought this would be good but is there anyway to make it do that from inside windows without some other software. If there isn't, then what other 3rd party programs can let me do this in Windows.
I have searched, not as heavy as I think i should, but all i keep seeing in Visual Basic and C++ programing, something I'm not good at.
If anyone can help it would be cool. It doesn't have to be [esc] but i would prefer it.
I'm wondering if there is a way to customize the Win7 guest profile to include some fairly minor changes, such as setting up a specific background, adding certain bookmarks to IE, making sure MS office links are on the desktop or task bar...
I've been thinking of getting myself a nice new wireless mouse and keyboard, and I've noticed some of the high-end ones have a lot of "customizable MMO gaming keys". The Naga Epic Razer is pretty impressive with a (supposed) 17 customizable keys.

Another neat item is the Corsair k90. I want this one for it's mechanical-switch keys more than for the gaming-keys. But if I can put those keys to use... it could be worth it.

What I would like to know is... in Windows 7 itself (not the games) can you use these type of keys for certain shortcuts? Like, when I'm on the desktop, I could open up frequently used programs, at the tap of a key on my mouse? Or if I start a movie in VLC, could I link the keys to volume, play/pause or fast-forward/rewind functions?
I do game, somewhat, but these are pretty expensive peripherals. If I did buy them I would want them to be of use beyond just games. But so far as I've searched, I haven't found any indication that the keys can be used for non-gaming shortcuts.
I am using an eMachine KB-9908 PS/2 keyboard. it has an INTERNET and EMAIL button that I would like to remap to Media player and COD 2. I cannot find the drivers on any website, and I really dont like having to suscribe to $40 software for one-time use. is there a way to navigate through windows .cfg files or the device manager?
i'm building an htpc with xbmc on my windows 7 so i'm trying to customize the boot process. I changed successfully the boot logo (win 7 one) and the boot logon screen. The problem is that my tv supports only 1280x720 res and not the 1024x768 that needs the new windows 7 boot logo, so it automatically starts with the old windows vista boot logo. Can i customize that too in win 7? If i can how can i do it? It's the same of windows vista?
With increased use of my Windows 7 I amfinding the automatic memory funtion to be quite conterproductive becauseit simply hogs space on my hard drive which calls for frequent cleaning anddefragging.Maintaining optimum space on my hard drive is important,is it not?Isn't there a way for the user to choose and select what he/she wants the program to store without the automatic memory function hogg-ing up everything ?
I am trying to minimalise my logonscreen, so far I have removed Windows Branding, every option but Start Task Manager, Ease of Access Button and the Shut Down button along with applying a custom wallpaper.Basically all I see is a Cancel button, wallpaper and Start Task Manager. However I would like to remove the arrow infront of Start Task Manager, theme the Cancel button so it does not look really glossy, and stop it automatically selecting the Top Item (Start Task Manager) automatically everytime I launch CTRL+ALT+DELETE.I would also like to remove the Switch User button from the Logon Screen and disable the loading wheel while shutting down and bootin
Click on 'Show more Icons' on the Taskbar, then click 'Customize...'Now at the bottom of the Dialog click the link 1. 'Turn system icons on or off' then in the following Dialog (at the bottom again) click the link 2. 'Customize notification icons' again, - now just keep repeating doing steps 1 and 2 for a couple of times, THEN try clicking the 'Cancel' Button - and see how many times it takes to close the Dialogs? On the first time you click The 'Cancel Button' it should close the Dialog - right? But instead it takes a couple of 'Cancels'?
2. Removed HDD to export data to a HDD on a Windows 7-32bit (HDD is a hitachi deskstar HDT722516DLA380)
3.Connected HDD to the laptop via a USB kit i bought
4.Everything seems fine
5.Attempt to move files -Access Denied-
Heres my problem everytime i try to move anything it says its denied i give it admin but it doesnt copy it anyway. I go to folder properties and set the security to allow "Everyone" Full control but it still wont work it says access is denied and i cant apply it. I can go into an individual file and set security settings there and be able to retrieve it however it is inefficient to try to do this to the next 3000 or so photos/files. Can anyone reccomend me what i should do? or perhaps theres a program that
I m having 2 laptops at home, I want to create system image file of laptop1 onto laptop2. Since the data is large i cant take the hassle of creating sytem image on a DVD as it will require more DVD's to do it. So m planning to store it on Laptop2. I m thinking of connecting 2 Laptops with a LAN cable and then create the sytem image on other laptop.
Window properties shows a folder has 17 files and 81Mb - opening the folder shows only 12 files and 65Mb. Settings are showing hidden and system files. Folder has no subfolders. This is not an uncomment occurrence.
