I'm wondering if there is a way to customize the Win7 guest profile to include some fairly minor changes, such as setting up a specific background, adding certain bookmarks to IE, making sure MS office links are on the desktop or task bar...
View 1 RepliesI did not see a hive with the .bak extension in the HKEY_USERS section. I am loathe to delete the user account and files since Guest is a special account.
p.s. I typically keep the Guest account disabled, but I do enable it once or twice a month.

View 3 Replies View Relatedso I was on my desktop main account and then let my dad log on to a guest account I recently created for him since his laptop isn't working, then when I came back I logged onto my profile I couldn't open any browser, in the case of firefox this came up (firefox can't load host something, missing profile) and chrome (your preferences cannot be read)
then I couln't open some shorcuts (windows cannot find the target. and my utorrent setting reset as well, like if I had never used it, BUT the guest account works perfectly.
I'm able to open firefox with open as administrator but all addons, bookmarks are gone, I can't open the document, picture, and music links on the start menu either
Basically, all I want to be able to do is use the [ESC] button to close windows (ie Browsers,apps, games, anything that if selected and when a button is pressed will close it) in windows 7.
I always thought this would be good but is there anyway to make it do that from inside windows without some other software. If there isn't, then what other 3rd party programs can let me do this in Windows.
I have searched, not as heavy as I think i should, but all i keep seeing in Visual Basic and C++ programing, something I'm not good at.
If anyone can help it would be cool. It doesn't have to be [esc] but i would prefer it.

Another neat item is the Corsair k90. I want this one for it's mechanical-switch keys more than for the gaming-keys. But if I can put those keys to use... it could be worth it.

What I would like to know is... in Windows 7 itself (not the games) can you use these type of keys for certain shortcuts? Like, when I'm on the desktop, I could open up frequently used programs, at the tap of a key on my mouse? Or if I start a movie in VLC, could I link the keys to volume, play/pause or fast-forward/rewind functions?
I do game, somewhat, but these are pretty expensive peripherals. If I did buy them I would want them to be of use beyond just games. But so far as I've searched, I haven't found any indication that the keys can be used for non-gaming shortcuts.
I am using an eMachine KB-9908 PS/2 keyboard. it has an INTERNET and EMAIL button that I would like to remap to Media player and COD 2. I cannot find the drivers on any website, and I really dont like having to suscribe to $40 software for one-time use. is there a way to navigate through windows .cfg files or the device manager?

The problem is that my tv supports only 1280x720 res and not the 1024x768 that needs the new windows 7 boot logo, so it automatically starts with the old windows vista boot logo.Can i customize that too in win 7? View 1 Replies View RelatedOriginally I had all my data files in drive D and only programs in drive C. Somehow my old user profile got corrupted and the Backgound wall paper is not working properly. So I created a new admin profile to fix it but now I have a mess.After I created a new admin profile and moved the old users folder/files to the new user , I decided to delete the old profile after everything seems to be working properly . When deleting the old profile I elected to save old user files to my desktop ( fortunately) . I now have a very fragmented system . Some of the folder/files are still under my old username in D drive, nothing in my new user name in D drive plus almost all of the folder/files from the old user ( in drive D) are now in a folder on the desktop where windows elected to place them when I elected to save the folders/files. I really need all the old user folders.I would like to have the Data in either under my old or new username in Drive D instead of fragmented all over the place. I realize I ended up in this situation because I didnt understand fully what windows will do when creating and deleting user profiles.

When I came back my account was assigned with guest authorization instead of administrator's. While I was working on my administrator account I disabled Super Administrator account and therefore now I am unable to log into it. My little brother account is just another guest account. So as far as I know there are two guests accounts somehow, 0 administrator accounts, and 1 super administrator account which is disabled. How can I restore my account to its previous settings? (If I try to do anything which requires administrator's level authorization it asks for password but it never works, which means that it has been changed or i do not know where can I type it in).

I've tried a few tweaks on my Windows 7 desktop and my Kubuntu 11.04 Linux-running laptop. Nothing has worked. Unless access to a shared directory is set to guest on the laptop, the Windows box keeps asking for a legitimate password, whenever I attempt to 'open' them.
Both machines have the same log-in strings for both basic log-on and Samba. Or do they? I'm presuming there's no separate logon/password required for Windows 7 Home Premium when it comes to file sharing, but as a late Windows XP Professional user (both SP2 and SP3), I'm not taking anything wholly for granted. Any Windows build since the dawn of XP that installs without gpedit.msc is bound to be lacking in other ways, imco.
when i try to create a new user profile ~ with or without a password, it shows up on the main login page, but when i click on it to open, the message "UserProfileService_service failed the logon_user profile cannot be loaded". i have searched microsoft support with little solutions listed. and the ones that are listed seem too technical for me to be trying on my own. there are many posts there with this problem, but they all seem to be several years old.
i am using windows 7. i have never been able to create any accounts other than my administrator account & the one account i use for all my general computer use. i have been using norton 360 with no problems. i have resorted to just using any "log in/log out' links on all the sites my husband wants to use.i am really not all that confident doing anything super technical to fix this, since i don't have a real understanding of different extensions or types of files. i am afraid i could really mess everything up really bad. but, it would just be SO MUCH EASIER & FASTER if i had my account & my husband had his own account.
My wife's Dell desktop (after a nighttime thunderstorm) will not permit her to log on. When she enters the password she gets the following message: "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded". Has anyone encountered this issue and is there a user fix, or should we take the computer back to where it was bought for service?

The guest cant do ANYTHING with out permission so im stuck. Im trying to either over ride the admin account or delete it. I have tried the user net administrator /Active: yes but it always askes permission. During the F8 during boot, my only choices are the locked account or the guest. I need to get rid of that damn locked account. what do i do? I also dont have any OS discs and somebody whiped the Factory settings data so no formatting at all. I cant even system restore the computer
