View 3 RepliesI can't login in Guest user. My administrator account is working properly and without any problems, but my guest account doesn't. When I login to that account then its automatically logging off and coming back to the login Screen.I created standard user, but anyway I can't login there. When I click the icon it automatically logs off.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been given a laptop to try and sort out. For some unknown reason the user account has changed from an administrator to a guest account. Tried logging on through safe mode but nobody knew the administrator password. I cleared the password and gained access to the system via safe mode. When trying to access the system via admin normally the admin account was not activated.
So safe mode again and reactivated it finally got into the system in normal mode but now the user that was guest that i want to make admin again con not be found. If i go looking in the users folder there user name and folder is there. If I try to create a new user with the same user name the system will not let me. I need to get it back. How to achieve this?
On my computer I need to have a guest account. The problem is that other computers on this network connected to the internet via my computer so my computer needs to have static IP address of 192.168.0.1 but when Guest account is logged in my system forgets the static IP address I have set in my other admin account. I am not even sure that LAN is connected when the Guest account logs in. My admin account is logged in and locked so I suppose all programs and settings there should still be working. How do I make sure that my ethernet settings are working the same way for guest account too. I am not worried about Guest account being able to access the local network.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm currently administrator of a couple different groups of computers at a university, and I've been looking into changing the layout of the logon screen. I've found a lot of information, but something that I have wanted from the start has eluded me. I'd like to set the logon screen (or welcome screen I suppose) to display only one available account: the guest account that I have personalized for professors or students to use (not the same as the default Windows guest account). I would also like to have the option to switch users at the logon screen, preferably with the on-screen button that says switch users which I can't seem to get to display using my methods.
System Specs All of the PCs I am administrating have some differences... Simply put, I have a bunch of desktops running Windows 7 Pro x64, and a bunch of NetBooks running Windows 7 Starter x86. I've made my attempts on one of the NetBooks thus far since I can carry it around. On Windows 7 Starter it seems that "Switch User" is disabled, but I think it is still in the PC because when I tried a Registry Hack that hides all user accounts except the one that was last logged into, I had the option to switch users, but only when the account I last used had a password. The guest account does not and cannot have one. Anyway, the registry hack I just mentioned involves going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE..... and creating a bogus key under the ProfileList key.
I also tried a similar thing to the above which didn't work, I can't remember what it was though.I have also tried hiding the default administrative account I made while keeping the other account visible, but this results in me not being able to log into that account from the Login screen, and the system will automatically login to the guest account because it doesn't have a password. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I need a way to get into the other account. This was done by changing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOF... and adding the account to hide as a 32 bit DWORD. Don't hide all of your administrator accounts in this fashion, or you'll be screwed FYI.
The third thing I tried was adding an entry for fast user switching and enabling/disabling it, in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOF.... and adjusting the "HideFastUserSwitching" key. This didn't seem to have any effect.I also tried various combinations of the above, but that didn't get me the outcome I was looking for either. This has all been on the netbook, but I'm looking for a solution that will work on the NetBooks and the Desktops.
I've created a guest account on my PC (no admin privileges). When I open the Media Player in the guest account, the library is empty. How to load music files.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy friend and I share my laptop. Recently I found out that he was watching porn on my computer. So I promptly confronted him, and told him to stop. Weeks later, he did it again. So I downloaded Norton's Safety Minder to prevent it. So this sneaky prick goes around and enables the guest account, and lo and behold, porn fest again. What can I do? I don't want to keep him off the admin account, because he plays games on here, but I don't want him watching porn on my laptop either. Is there a way to put parental settings on the guest account? I know you can disable it, tried that, he just re-enables it, then disables it before he gets off. I'm really frustrated about this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've set up a secondary account on my Windows 7 machine and I need to find out how to disable the switch user thing. In Windows XP, I could hit winflag+L and switch user as I would instantly be taken to the user list.In Windows 7, for some reason they had to complicate everything. When I hit winflag+L it just displays a picture of my account and a "Switch User" button, which for me serves no purpose what so ever.Is there any way I can regain Windows XP's user switch functionality in Windows 7, where winflag+L takes me directly to the user list on the login screen?

I don't use Internet while working, so I don't need Antivirus security while working. I created 2 Use Accounts one for my work and another one for online browsing. Tried to disable AVG protection on my work account. But it didn't work because AVG don't have single user installation option. Also tried to disable AVG on start up but it applied for the both accounts. I don't want to switch to any other Antivirus because I'm pretty much satisfied with AVG and using AVG from more than 4yrs."Is there any way to disable Apps on Secondary Accounts?".

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 2 hard drives in the same computer, each with its own instance of Windows 7. I must keep these files separate from each other for security reasons - the problem is that each instance of Windows automatically reads the data from the other hard drive.
I am aware that usually the way to fix this is to select the hard drive and click 'Disable' (works fine on one hard drive) - but the other hard drive does not have this option. Is there any other way I can get Windows 7 to completely ignore/disable/uninstall a hard drive? Note that simply clicking 'Uninstall' does not work, since it automatically reinstall itself on reboot.
To sum up:
- 'Disable button' does not exist.
- 'Uninstall' button is useless, since it reinstall on reboot.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two internal 750GB HDs - one is partitioned to C (Windows) and the other D (data). The other is E and simply a mirror backup of D which I do once a day.
The problem is that the E drive goes to sleep after XX minutes but some applications or processes (e.g. Empty Recycle Bin) want to wake it up before they work, which means a delay of ~10 seconds as the E drive spins up - very annoying.
How can I temporarily disable the drive until I need it for the once a day backup?
I'm trying out USB Safely Remove and I see when I try to Stop a USB docking station, it shows me that the Volume Tracking Information service has hold of the drive even though it's not in the list for System Restore Points.
Anyone know how to turn volume tracking on and off? I'm running Windows 7 32 bit build 7077.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI keep all my data on a separate drive. The last time I re-installed windows 7 I had to take ownership of all my data even though the user name on the old install and then new install was the same. After reading the forums I understood that the SID for my user name was different between the old and new installations.
So my questions are
1) Is there anyway to assign the old user SID to the user created in the newly reinstalled OS so that I don't have to take ownership for a huge number of files/folders recursively?
2) If there is no way to assign the SID how do people store their data to allow for easy reinstall of the OS/Migration to a different computer?
