How To Disable Some Apps On Secondary User Account

Apr 21, 2012

Apps I use need large amount of free memory and CPU. But also I use to be online for much time. I use AVG Internet Security. But it takes a larger amount of Memory and CPU. I don't use Internet while working, so I don't need Antivirus security while working. I created 2 Use Accounts one for my work and another one for online browsing. Tried to disable AVG protection on my work account. But it didn't work because AVG don't have single user installation option. Also tried to disable AVG on start up but it applied for the both accounts. I don't want to switch to any other Antivirus because I'm pretty much satisfied with AVG and using AVG from more than 4yrs."Is there any way to disable Apps on Secondary Accounts?".

Disable Guest Account On Admin Account?

Nov 9, 2012

My friend and I share my laptop. Recently I found out that he was watching porn on my computer. So I promptly confronted him, and told him to stop. Weeks later, he did it again. So I downloaded Norton's Safety Minder to prevent it. So this sneaky prick goes around and enables the guest account, and lo and behold, porn fest again. What can I do? I don't want to keep him off the admin account, because he plays games on here, but I don't want him watching porn on my laptop either. Is there a way to put parental settings on the guest account? I know you can disable it, tried that, he just re-enables it, then disables it before he gets off. I'm really frustrated about this.

Default User Account (Administrator) Acts Like Standard Account

Oct 31, 2011

I am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.

I would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem short of a clean install of Windows. If not, is it possible to move all of my settings to the user account that works correctly and delete the one that does not.

Slow Log On For Single User Account On Multi Account System

Sep 29, 2011

I would appreciate any help identifying the cause of extremely slow log on times for a user account on our family laptop. The machine is running Windows 7 - 64-bit version, and currently has 3 users accounts 2 admin and 1 regular. The regular account has begun to experience log on times that last for minutes (The Welcome splash screen prior to log on screen), while the admin accounts have no problems. I have seen other posts regarding slow log on times, but I haven't seen those which address the issue for a specific user account.

32bit Apps Cannot Connect To Network, 64bit Apps Can

Aug 30, 2012

I can only connect to the network using 64 bit applications on Window 7 Pro SP1.The problem occured after installing the latest version of iTunes (may or may not be related). I uninstalled iTunes with no change. IE 32 bit crashes after opening. Firefox opens but gives Server Not Found error. I cannot connect webservers on the local network with Firefox either. Filezilla will not connect to local or remote servers. VNC will not connect to local servers - IE 64 works fine and command line tools like ftp and telnet to internal and external sites works fine - this is not a DNS, Firewall, or Routing issue.

Same results in Safe Mode
sfc /scannow runs clean.

I reset the winsock, uninstalled all my network adapters, including the drivers and resinstalled them.Rebooted multiple times.Unfortunately I just discoved that System Restore was not enabled so I can't roll back.I doubt this is malware related as I have multiple levels of defense (postini, SpyShelter, Symantec Endpoint) and outside of iTunes have not downloaded or installed anything or even visited unusual websites. I'm about to do a deep scan that will probably take a few hours just to play it safe.

Command Prompt Won't Disable Administrator Account

Jan 11, 2012

In the past, I have had to use the built-in Administrator account to install Microsoft's virtualization software and install Windows XP Mode (I don't know why it wouldn't install before, I even disabled UAC with failed results). In order to do this, I enabled the Administrator account via Command Prompt, as recommended by a tech support specialist I used the command "net user administrator /active yes" and the Admin account was active, I installed the program, disabled the Administrator account, and went on my merry way.

It is now about a year later and after I have created a system image of my computer (I only made one because I do not have enough sufficient storage to make multiple ones, or even replace my current one) I have found out that there is an issue with command prompt or something... I unfortunately do not know. I had to reactivate the Administrator account for one reason or another and did my business, but after I reactivated it I came to find that the same command to activate the Administrator account... Changed its password. I used a Linux Live CD with Ophcrack to find out that the password for my Admin account was changed to "yes". And after I tried to disable the account, INSTEAD of it being disabled, the password was set to "no" hence "net user administrator /active no". I decided to experiment on the matter with other accounts, and typing in other words besides "yes" or "no" and I found that the net user command will change the password of any account. This is disturbing to me and also, I would like to easily enable or disable any account without changing any passwords.

Outlook 2010: Created New Imap Account, How To Disable Old Pop3

Jan 11, 2012

I am using both a laptop and tablet to check email I have set up both devices with imap accounts.

The issue is that I don't want to lose all my old folders and email from the old pop3 account and I can't find a way to move or copy them to the newly created account on my laptop so I'd like to leave the old account, inactive, in Outlook.

Also, I don't want to get messages into two different folders. Is there a way to disable the old pop3 account without removing it?

I have tried deleting the password so it won't send/receive from that account but all I get is the constant "enter password" box which is naturally not an ideal state of affairs.

PS it probably isn't relevant but FYI the tablet is a Motorola Xoom Android and the laptop is an Asus running Win 7 Home Premium and Outlook 2010 as in the subject line.

Can't Create A New User Account

Nov 10, 2012

You see, I've been trying to make a new use account my computer, but I've been unsuccessful every try. I follow the standard procedure, Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts , but that doesn't make the folder in, a) the registry, b) c:users<newuser> , c) User accounts password control (advanced tab) but it does show up in a) Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts , b) Command prompt (net user).

I need to make my brother his own account, and I am looking at selling the computer to a friend, but he's not very tech savvy, and it'd infuriate his mother
I have taken a screen shot of the case of the Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts and the advanced tab in User accounts password control (I assume it's what it'd be called), and the command prompt, and I have added as attatchments.

Cannot Create New User Account

Jul 7, 2012

My account is a full administrative account. I need to create another user account for a family member. I go to the User section of Control Panel and add the new user, give the account a name with NO password and set to standard user. However, whenever I reboot my Windows 7 Home Premium machine, I get a red x with a message that says - "The username and password are incorrect." I can OK and continue to boot to my account. If I "Switch User" I can log in to the new account successfully. However, I continue to get the error message on boot instead of seeing the screen that shows both accounts so you can choose which one you want to log in to.

Can't Create New User Account

Apr 18, 2012

This is the tip of a horrible iceberg. Active links in the control panel don't open, as though I don't have permission to access the contents, although UAC doesn't appear. I couldn't install Paint Shop Pro and part of the advice was to create a new account (various reasons, not relevant to this post) but I couldn't. I have full admin rights. Elsewhere, device manager is empty (have posted elsewhere about this) so I can't check device conflicts. I contacted Dell support but had nothing useful back, except the advice that they don't supply W7 repair/reinstall software because it's 'preinstalled and so free' (really? thought I'd bought the whole kit and caboodle), I have to buy a new copy. I don't really want to do a fresh reinstall, although I do feel a bit unarmed without an actual copy of windows to hand

Once I am logged into the guest account I would like to use the same hotkey to switch back to the administrator account which has a password.

Example

Current screen: administrator (has password)

Press hotkey

New screen: guest account desktop

Current screen: guest account desktop

New screen: screen with prompt for administrator password

Also can somebody tell me where I can edit the user rights, settings, etc for the guest account?
