Usually it would take about 20 seconds or so from the time I turn it on to the log in screen. Now sometimes I'll turn it on and it will stay at the loading windows screen sometimes a couple minutes to 5 mins then make its way to the log in screen.

Oct 18, 2011Weirdly my screen won't dim anymore, i set it to dim 1 minute but it doesn't do anything but just stays on. I adjusted it in the Power options and it is on the High Performance plan, i have tried other plan which has different dim time but still no go. How i adjusted the it is by going to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings and then adjusting the "Turn off the display". Basically it will dim if the mouse/touchpad is not touched/move in the time you adjusted it on when it will dim.

Feb 4, 2012After booting my machine (Sony VAIO Z2) the logon screen appears, but just the background. Everything else is missing. Only option I do have is forcing the notebook to shutdown by pressing power-button for a few sec. This does not happen all the time. Sometimes I'm able to boot/logon normally a few times in a row, sometimes I have to reboot very often just to finally get to the (non-blank) logon screen.
I've seen that there are already a few (old) threads on this topic in this forum, but none of them seemed to solve the problem I have. I don't want to be reinstalling all over again.
I've already tried to deactivate some services like Novell Client and fingerprint reader, which both interfere in the logon process. But nothing changed.
Booting from a Windows 7 DVD and using startup repair function hasn't changed anything either.
Hangs At Screen For Preparing For First Use / Time
Dec 12, 2009I had this pc working decently with Vista Ultimate x64, but wanted to bump it up to Windows 7 since the audio was poor and Media Center did not work well. I tried the upgrade through Windows route and this is when the issue began. The install went normally, but when i got to the screen for preparing for first use, it hung.
I have tried everything I know of, including using Active@ KillDisk to wipe the hard drive entirely. Whether I try a 32 bit or 64 bit copy of 7 Ultimate, it hangs at the same spot. I striped this machine down and have only a single DDR3 2GB memory stick in the mobo slot...
I can install Vista Ultimate x64 without issue..
Black Screen For Some Time At Startup?
Nov 4, 2012I keep getting a black screen after the Welcome screen for about 10-15 seconds and then the desktop appears. And sometimes it happens for a long time so I have to restart the PC. I haven't tried to fix it because I have no idea what to do.

Nov 4, 2009on first install of windows 7 (and XP when I was using it) the comp ran fine booted in less than 30secs, but over the couple of weeks it just keeps getting slower and slower now it can take anywhere between 3-5min.
once it has booted to windows log on screen it takes all of a secound to load.
I built my and my brothers comps, there both using the same Mobo/CPU I have 4GB (he has 2GB) but his computer boots faster than mine.
no problems once the comp has started apart from certain settings wont save like where I leave my Icons on DT, and screens staying maximized.
would give boot log but cant remember how to get it...

Apr 30, 2011I just finished my first build about 3 months ago, and everytihng was nice and dandy until NOW I start getting the blue screen of death. It says something like error dxgmms1.sys driver_irql_not_less_than_or_equal. I did just some limited resarch on the net, and people are saying that I should try to update my drivers. I updated the video card driver, I`m pretty sure I got the latest motherboard bios, and W7 says no current updates available. Now the last time it happned to me I was watching a movie so I figured it might be the video card? But on the net people say I should run memtest. So i did and while it was running it killed again?. So is the RAM or the video card, how can I find out?

The screen is all garbled, almost like it has been mirrored 6 times across the screen. Apr 26, 2011About a month after I started using it, the Say the Time clock program I bought stopped launching the management menu when I right click the date/time field in the task tray (notification area).
Therefore, I can't use or edit the program. Neither the touchpad nor the cordless mouse works.
Other than this problem, my computer works great. Every single item that's meant to be right clicked works for me.
Is there a way I can generate a log to show the software manufacturer (Provenio) that it's their problem and not mine? I am a novice user but I can follow instructions. However, I don't want to put my computer at risk if I make an entry error.
I've been using computers for 18 years and I've never had this problem until I bought this software and used it for about a month.
I just wanted a conclusive way of putting the ball back in the manufacturer's court.
System Time Not Kept Correctly After Having Manually Changed BIOS Time
Apr 23, 2012I spilt some water on my laptop a few days ago but fortunately it's completely dried out and working perfectly.... apart from this minor (but important) issue.
Problem: the system time does not stay correct. Even after manually updating the BIOS time and also even after manually syncing it with the various servers available under the time options.
Fix: set the internet time sync interval to every minute rather than its default setting? How do I do this?
P.S. This couldn't be a CMOS battery issue surely because even when the system is on and plugged in the system time still deviates from correct. (I assume the CMOS battery is only used when the system is powered off.) If I need it replaced, how does that sit with my Dell hardware warranty?
