View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Vista Ultimate installation to Windows Seven Ultimate. I am using RTM version 7600.
I have tried on several occasions to pin some folders to explorer. The pinning works fine and they will stay there until I reboot the machine, at which point when I right click the Windows Explorer icon on the taskbar, the pins have now disappeared? This is rather annoying as I use a number of different folders and on my old Vista installation I had taskbar shortcuts for each folder.
From Windows 7 logon screen how to run screen saver slide show. Try the hack here but it didn't work I have a lab of 30 systems and try it again on another two systems but it didn't work. I'm runing Windows 7 64Bit.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been having issues with my screen saver. No matter what the time I set it for it will not turn on. When I test it, it works just fine. I also have the computer set to turn off the monitor after a set time and that too is not happening. I was noticing that when ever there were updates to be installed that it wouldn't go to screen saver but there are no updates to be installed right now. I do not have a wireless mouse or keyboard everything is via USB.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running win7 on an hp phoenix pc with 12 GB RAM, Intel I7-2600 CPU, SSD + 1 TB HDD. I've had the pc for about 6 months, but recently my icons are being shifted all to the left side of the screen. If I rearrange the icons to where I want them, they will all be shifted to the left side of the screen whenever i reboot. I was able to find on google. I also tried HP tech support and they were not able to fix this issue. Has anyone else found a solution to this problem? I've seen lots of others complaining about this matter, but all the proposed solutions seem to relate to unchecking the "align to grid" or "automatically align icons" options under the "view" menu selection on the desktop. None of these options work. Why is this happenning in the first place? The machine was not doing this in the first few months I had it. This only started about a month ago. Previously the icons stayed where i placed them
View 6 Replies View Relatedtrying to make some basic changes to the screen personalization but they wont stick. I'm in administrator mode, by the way. Every time I log back in, they revert. In particular, Im trying to change the way a slideshow is displayed. I go to Desktop Background and change Position to Fit. I Save Changes and all seems to be well. I also save the desktop theme under My Themes. But when I log back in it goes back to Stretch. Am I missing some kind of permissions thing? Or do I just not understand how desktop themes get saved?

Procedure: right click desktop/view/uncheck align to grid/blablabla well I do it and then it rechecks after refresh immediately by itself and moves icons back to grid which i dont want. I ve tried different things nothing works so far. Also I: right click desktop/personalize/ease of use/change admin settings/CHECK: apply all setting to logon desktop - hit ok etc - The check mark DOES NOT STAY PUT.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo, as the title says, my desktop icons wont stay put. This only just happened 2 days ago, Sunday my icons were where I put them, and not moving on their own.Suddenly Monday they are auto arranged on the left side in no particular order. So, what is causing thisFirst let me say, I have already checked, auto arrange is NOT on. I've also not right clicked my desktop and clicked sort by >.This problem is happening on boot up, I can move an icon to a different spot, reboot and it will be moved back to the left side of my screen. I do have a dual monitor setup, I have a 22" asus monitor hooked up through HDMI to DVI (HDMI end is on the monitor), and then a 40" tv hooked up from HDMI to HDMI. Both monitors are running into a single HIS 6950 2GB model video card. I've had this working fine since last September.
The only coincidence I can think of that may have caused this is my graphic drivers. If my memory serves me correctly I updated from 12.11 to 12.12 for the ATI card Sunday night after it popped up and bugged me and I decided I wasnt lazy enough to have it remind me again a week later. So I went ahead and updated, all worked fine, shut down and booted pc back up the next day (Monday) and sure enough icons moved. either thats the problem or it's a huge coincidence. I'm going to roll the drivers back to the 12.11 version to test this theory but I was curious if anyone else had heard reports of this, or even experienced this problem themselves, and if so was it the same 12.12 drivers I mentioned or something else?

View 2 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is a WMC/Windows 7 issue or a TV issue.
I have an HTPC hooked up to a TV via an HDMI matrix. When I run the screensave (photo gallery) on my WMC I lose the signal to the TV very 20-25 minutes. I know this as I get a "No Signal" message. When I click on the keyboard the signal resets. This does not occur if I am watching a movie in WMC. Only when the screen save is running.
I don't seem to get this when I run the screen saver (photo gallery) on Apple TV through the same TV. It plays indefinately.
Is there a setting in WMC that turns off the screen saver slide show? Or is this a problem with my TV/Signal?

Had trouble with computer in March 2011 and eventually had to ship to HP with extended warranty (which ran out march 2012). They installed new motherboard and RAM. We upgraded fan (there are 2) and took RAM from 2GB to 8GM in May 2011. Has been running great, no problems til this weekend. It will shut off like being unplugged. I can't get it to stay on very long before it does it again. I am getting the sign on screen and the desktop shows up. I can do about 1 minute of operations before it goes out.
Opened up the tower and the fans are running, nothing feels hot.
I believe it has to do with hardware, I am going to try replacing the RAM. Then checking the fans.
When ever I change my background after I restart my computer it turns into a blue solid color. I want my backgrounds to stay because now every time I restart my computer I have to change it. Under the personalization panel it shows I still have a picture seleteced but it just wont show anything into I click a new picture.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy screen saver is not functioning. I get a black screen saying "Windows could not start this screen saver".
When I try to adjust the settings it says "no preview available". I have changed no settings to make this occur.
I am using the original screen saver that came with the OS and attempting to use 'Bubbles". I have had this PC for 2 years and have been using Google Chrome for the last 2 months.
My screen saver will not come on and the monitor is not turning off, even though I've set it using the advanced power settings. Also, when I put the computer into Hibernate mode, it always turns itself back on, usually in the middle of the night.

Then 2 of the 4 screen went blank and the remaining 2 froze and just gave me BSoD. This BSoD is not the first one and I suspect the screen saver is missing some files, etc. or Windows is corrupted. I think all my drivers are updated (with SlimDriver freeware). This time, the BSoD - as I recall it had a IRQL_. message at the top.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy system Froze up and went to a black screen; upon reboot it wouldn't get past the BIOS load screen. I reset the CMOS and now everything works fine except an issue with the photo screen saver. The other screen savers work, but the photo screen saver will not. When I try to go into settings with the photos screen saver selected it looks like it loads something but nothing pops up, and then the screen saver window becomes unusable. It doesn't freeze but it acts like there is a second dialog box open and it's waiting for you to finish with that dialog box (if you know what I mean). I can't preview with photos selected either, but it doesn't become unusable.

I am having a similar problem using the "blank" screen saver with a password...
Purchased a new Dell XPS 8000 three days ago and everything appeared to be working fine. I was using the wired keyboard and mouse supplied with the computer.
Connected my old usb Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard/Mouse 1.0A to the system and suddenly the system would never go to screen saver. I checked for windows updates and it recommended an update for the wireless keyboard and mouse. Installed the update and now my system goes to screen saver.
The problem now is that it doesn't return from screen saver consistently. I am still characterizing the problem... When I move the mouse I get the login screen, type the password, hit return, and the screen goes blank (as if it is back in the blank screen saver).
I have had the desktop reactivate very quickly (normally) if the screen saver was on only for a few minutes. I have had it take 2 minutes plus to get to the desktop. I have also had the system freeze and ended up power cycling.
I thought this was a power management issue. I tried setting up power settings so nothing would ever go into power save mode but this hasn't made a difference.
I just reconnected my wired keyboard and mouse to see if the issue goes away. I am expecting this to solve it, but I really would like to use the wireless.
Update...
1. Went back to wired mouse/keyboard and the issue persisted.
2. Rolled back updates from last Windows 7 update: Dell Monitor 6/21/2009 1.0.0.0, Microsoft (HID Class) 5/8/2009 7.00.258.0, and Microsoft (USB) 11/03/2009 7.10.344.0. Problem still persisited.
3. Did a "reset to defaults" on the Dell power settings profile and removed the password from the blank screen saver. Seemed to resolve the issue, but only tried it once with the screen saver on for an hour.
4. Added the password back to the screen saver. Worked once and then hung the computer the 2nd time. I move the mouse, get the login screen, type my password, hit return, and the monitors go blank (as if it is in the blank screen saver). At this point it is hung, no mouse, no keyboard, ... must power cycle to get the system back up and running.
Yet another update...
Found a "solution" (let's call it a work around) for this issue in another thread: Seven locks up after an hour or so idle. I had my task bar set to auto hide, changed it to be visible all of the time and no more system hangs.
While I am thrilled to not have to power cycle everytime I go to screen saver, I would still like to auto hide the task bar. I wonder if there isn't a better fix that would allow me to still configure the task bar.
