SATA SSD Drive Shows Up As SCSI

Jul 22, 2010

I have a Dell XPS730 with the Nvidia Nforce 790i chipset. I run two 500 gig SATA drives under RAID 0. I recently installed an Intel X25 80 gig SSD and have ran into problems. Windows recognizes the drive as SCSI in device manager. Granted it works however because it is listed as SCSI TRIM and the intel toolbox wont work which makes an SSD useless. After tons of research I have found that because of the Nvidia chipset it makes the drive show up as SCSI. I have tried Vista and Windows 7, both show it as SCSI. I have moved the SATA cable away from the other main 4 that support RAID with no luck. I have refomatted several times as well with no luck. I have completely disabled RAID in the bios and it STILL shows as SCSI. Is there any way to get around this? I have read that changing the nvidia controller drivers may work but im not sure what I would switch them to?

SATA Drives Showing Up As SCSI Windows 7 Ultimate?

Jan 17, 2012

I've been reading about issues with people having problems with their SSD's not being reconized by Windows 7 Ultimate.but my WD 600gig STAT III Raptor is listed as a SCSI as well. I assume the problem is with my Marvell Driver.I bought this 60gig OCZ Vertex 3 SATA III drive for a Boot drive and had a pain installing drivers for it on a clean install of windows. I plugged it, and my WD Raptor both into the 2 SATA III ports that I have on my ASUS Rampage III MB. I set the Drives to ACHI not IDE. Tried to install Windows, had to force windows to accept the Marvell Drivers...but finally got it installed. Now Im stuck with the OCZ SSD and the Raptor both at SCSI speeds...not able to get them reconized my Windows 7 Ult as SATA drives.Should I try uninstalling the Marvell and JBMicron drivers and let Windows try and install drivers that will work? Funny thing is, I know that windows is reconizing the SSD as a SSD because of the Disk Defrag has been disabled on it...and was able to get some info off the drive via Intels SSD toolbox....OCZ's tool box wont reconize it unless you use Windows drivers. I had to install the Marvell Drivers to install Windows, Windows wouldn't reconize either drive plugged into the SATA III ports.I've tried bout everything, even tried the reg. fix via the Windows Helper with no luck.

Sata Devices Reporting As SCSI, Performance Issues

Aug 15, 2009

Just installed Windows 7 RTM and my Sata HDD's and DVDRW are reporting as SCSI devices. I would get this problem in XP if I installed the mobo's raid drivers by accident. If I did then the devices would report as SCSI and the dvd burner would report as a cdrom and would not burn or read dvds

Whereas in Windows 7 the burner is reporting as a DVDRW scsi CDrom and will play dvd's and burn them too.

So at the moment there doesn't seem to be any problem however whilst navigating through the control panel I noticed the WEI. So I took a look and it's report my primary hard drive with a score of 5.9. The hard drive is a brand new Western Digital Caviar Black 500gb 32mb cache disk, is this score normal for such a drive?

Also is there anything else to worry about with the devices reporting as SCSI or is okay to leave it like that.

Replacing SCSI Storage Drivers With IDE Or SATA Drivers?

May 18, 2012

Having issues with RAID0 array being detected by Windows7 Ultimate x64 as SCSI. Apparently these drivers are the 'default' drivers that install when the RAID array is initialized. There is no option at this point to install other drivers instead.Using DeviceManager, there is an option to 'update drivers', and regardless of the method chosen, even selecting the file for a previously-downloaded set of drivers, Windows7 always comes back with a message of "Windows has determined that the best drivers for your system are already installed". Considering that SCSI drivers are the OLDEST ones out there, and actual SCSI devices are becoming rarer and rarer, how is it that these drivers cannot be replaced with more current and more applicable drivers?

HDD On Asmedia SATA Port Shows As Removable Device

Jun 23, 2012

As you probably know the issue is that the HDD shows as removable device in the taskbar.

I have the lastest drivers available from Asmedia and it does not remove the icon from the taskbar.

I also try the MS register fix My internal SATA device appears in Devices and Printers and in the - Microsoft Answers

1- Since the sata port is not Intel , would the register location be the same for the proposed solution above to work?

2- I tried channels 0..5 , should I try any other number? The solution says that the channel in device manager it is not always the correct one. Under device manager , general tab it displays "Location 0 (Channel 1, Target 0, Lun 0)"

Windows 7 Install To A SCSI Drive Without The Driver Installation (F6)?

Can W/7 install to a SCSI drive without the driver installation (F6)? I'm just about to install W7, and it seems to detect all 3 SCSI drives without the driver for the LSI 1030 Ultra SCSI adapter.

I'm just a little surprised how simple this is, usually you have to supply the additional driver...

SATA-II Drive On SATA Raid Controller?

May 7, 2011

i purchased a Silicon SiI3512 SATA Raid Controller purely to have 2 extra SATA ports which I am using to connect to my case's external drive bays. I have flashed the bios of the controller and updated the driver to put it in "Base" mode so it is not using RAID. I did extensive research on this and it appears that I have this part right. For now, I am trying to connect a WD1600BEVT 2.5" SATA-II hard drive to one of these ports and am having some difficulty. I can see the drive, but when I try to format the drive in Windows, or a command prompt (using the windows recovery DVD) it hangs. I am wondering if this is a compatibility issue with a SATA-II drive on a SATA-I controller, however, most of the forums I have read state that if there is a compatibility issue, the controller won't even recognize the drive. I searched around to see if there was a way to force the HDD to SATA(150), but the jumpers on this drive are for SSC and RPS. Is there a way to fix this or do I need a drive that is capable of forcing SATA-I speeds? Perhaps even a controller capable of at least SATA-II since that is the minimum of all new HDDs?

Sata Drive Recognition Preventing Addition Of 2nd Drive

Dec 8, 2012

Have XP on C drive and looking to install Win 7 on 2nd Sata drive for dual boot. However, when installing a 2nd Sata drive my XP bios identifies it correctly as a Sata drive but my PC Disk management recognises it as a Removeable disk preventing me from installing Win 7. I have tried a couple of different Sata disks with the same result.

Another disk in this dock works fine. No problems. why this might be happening or anyway to prevent? Seems like when I go to disk management and assign K it should stay that way.

Install Windows 7 With Sata Hard Drive And IDE DVD ROM Drive

Oct 8, 2010

I have tried numerous times on my PC to install Windows 7 onto my Sata Drive to no avail. Yet as soon as I plug in my IDE HD it installs fine.I have unplugged all external peripherals USB and internal Card Reader. Set my Bios ok as it sees both the Hard Drive and DVD fine (Both in the bios and during selection of hard drive during windows 7 installation). Yet when I come to install it, it craps out at a random percentage saying cannot read from source or worse yet it crawls so slow through the percentages (I really don't think Windows 7 should take 6 hours to get to 15%!!) Yet both the hard drive and dvd are fine and the disc works great on my other PC without the sata drive in.

My motherboard is a Biostar G31-M7 TE with latest bios now what is odd is that I recently updated the BIOS to the latest one so does my problem come from here or was it always going to be a problem on this board? Also when I do have Windows 7 installed on the IDE drive when I plug in ther sata drive inside the whole system goes belly up (from freezes when transferring large files to just not seeing the drive)

Windows 7 Sata Or IDE Drive

Jan 22, 2013

I need to reinstall my Windows 7 from cracked to legal. My PC has 3 HD in it. 200 GB SATA, 200 GB Primary IDE and 160 GB Secondary IDE. It is currently loaded on the 200gb Primary IDE and the other 2 are for backup and saving data. Would I be better off installing Windows 7 on the SATA drive and using both IDE drives for backup and saving data? If so is the easiest way to just disconnect the IDE drives until Windows 7 is installed then format the original OS drive to use for backup?

Win 7 Not Recognizing SATA Drive

Jan 1, 2010

Before I made the commitment to use Windows 7 as my primary OS, I figured I'd experiment in a dual boot environment. My current setup is Windows XP (x32) installed on a 500GB SATA drive. This drive has a partition for the OS and a separate partition for all of my files and data. To install Windows 7 I removed my SATA drive and (successfully) installed Windows 7 (64-bit) onto an 80GB IDE drive (controller 0, disk 0).

After the installation I shut down my system, reconnected my SATA drive, changed the BIOS boot order to look at my IDE and Windows 7 booted without a hitch. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-K8U-939

Now, with Windows 7 running and my SATA drive connected, Windows 7 does *not* recognize the drive. It is completely missing from the disk manager. I loaded the drivers for my motherboard ((however since the MoBo is a couple years old, it doesn't have Vista or Windows 7 drivers)), it loaded quasi-successfully but spat out some error about it not being totally successful. Now, after I log into Windows 7 I receive an error that goes like,

Code: Initial ALiRAID error!!Please Check:

1) ALiRAID driver is installed
2) ALiRAID controller is connected to disk drive(s)

When I reboot my computer and switch the boot order in the BIOS to boot from my IDE drive, my system will boot into Windows XP without any problem at all. I've also switched the BIOS setting from "RAID" to "IDE" for the SATA drive and that appears to have done nothing towards Windows 7 being able to access it.

There's gotta be some way to get Windows 7 to see my SATA drive, doesn't there?

Cannot Install On SATA Drive

Jun 4, 2010

This seems to be such a frequent issue that it could/should be a FAQ but I haven't found my answer yet.

I am (currently) running Windows 7 64 ULT on my home PC. I purchased an Intel X25M 80GB SATA drive and connected it in order to benefit from the speed. The issue is that setup hangs during the "expanding files" on this drive. Looking back I have *never* been able to install windows (XP Vista or 7) on a SATA drive on my mobo.

In order to avoid confusions I did the following.Removed the 2x400GB striped drives. Removed the old PATA-IDE drive, therefore only drives available were the Optiarc DVD and the new Intel SSD.

Hard Drive IDE SATA

Nov 27, 2009

My setup: XP on my C-drive with 2x SATA drives as slaves.

My requirement: I want to take my drives out and just use one of my SATA drives to install WINDOWS 7. If i tell my BIOS that my new C-Drive is that SATA drive, will i have to tell it again that my old drive is an IDE when i put that back in without the new SATA drive plugged in.

My reason: I have got the new WINDOWS 7 and want to install everything and update all my programs also have a good look and learn before i start having my work on it. It is easier for me to just unplug the power leads on each drive before i start then to have to redo all my work if i mess WINDOWS 7 up and have to format. I cant afford to loose everything.

Yes i could back everything up but i need to work while this is happening if you know what i mean.

Installing From A Sata Dvd Drive

Jun 23, 2009

I'm trying to install from a sata dvd drive onto an ide hard disc. I have the raid drivers for my board, x64 vista drivers to be exact.

During the install sequence I obviously get to the bit that asks me to insert a driver disc for the dvd drive. Currently the drivers are on a floppy, so insert the floppy disc and browse to the drivers. windows 7 then starts to load the drivers them fails with a message stating it can't find find drivers for this drive.

Has anyone else tried installing from a sata drive, and if so how did you get on?

Drive Shows RAW Filesystem

Nov 7, 2009

I had two 500G drives in raid-0. I then took apart the raid, formatted the two drives, installed into the machine on a DIFFERENT sata controller, everything works well. I use it a few days. Then I just boot the machine once more and, can't see my 500g drives AT ALL. They have simply vanished.

I check the disk management WHAT? it shows ONE 1t drive there, RAW filesystem. I shutdown and take out one drive, reboot and STILL it shows just one terabyte drive there. One, two drives, any SATA port, it always shows as one terabyte drive.

I rip both drives out, put in USB case and stick in my laptop, shows as one 500g drive, RAW filesystem, nothing on disk. Very nice. Incredible.

So now I've destroyed the partitions, formatted the drives...put them in the Windows 7 machine...and now I just wait how long will it take for win 7 to decide they are actually a single terabyte drive again.

And no, my sata controller (intel on Asus P5Q) is not set to raid mode either. If I have to reinstall Windows 7 for the third time to get it to work without amazing trickery.

Once windows is installed, the Sata drive is recognised in windows and is usable. I managed to get a workaround by using an ide dvd drive to install windows but I would like to be able to use the Sata drive that I have put in the machine.
