View 5 RepliesI am currently sitting here with a dilemma. The problem I am facing takes back two weeks where I got my new graphic card MSI 560Ti. I have a CoolerMaster HAF 922 case, my PSU is relatively small but compared to my older graphic card the new one is absolutely massive. I also uses Asus P6T Deluxe v2 Mobo which has 3 PCI-E 2.0 slots which I found out recently. They are placed in this order from left to right; 2xPCI-E 2.0 slots, 2x PCI slots, 1x PCI-E 2.0 slot.
I noticed that my card turns out to be at 90 degrees when I'm running a game for instance because there is too little space between the graphic card and PSU which makes it very little to no airflow in between. I decided to put my graphic card into the stand alone slot PCI-E 2.0 to create some space. But I have to sacrifice my sound card which I can't put it into the PCI slot no longer. Also the sound card technically should be able to fit into a PCI-E 2.0 slot correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't reach out of the edge on the motherboard, what should I do?
i want to make my spare sata hard drive as a slave my master hardrive is also satahow to do it . my OS is win7
View 4 Replies View RelatedEquipment: Acer Aspire 5535 Laptop Originally running Vista Home Premium - no problem. I have updated to W7 and now on W7 Ultimate SP1 32 bit I can slot an DS card into the card reader and copy to/from with Explorer.
I then eject the device using Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media icon in the rhs of the Task Bar.
I remove the card and then any other card slotted in is not recognised - including the original one. It does not appear in the Explorer window and is not accessible.
If I look on Device Manager, under Universal Bus Controllers, the eigth one down is USB Mass Storage Device and is showing an ! in yellow triangle. Right click on this brings up properties which tells me:
"Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47)
To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it in again." Well, if course I did remove the card but it don't see that
If I reboot the LT this is cleared. If I watch Device manager whilst ejecting the card, nothing happens till I actually, physically take out the card when it updates the window to show the fault triangle. I have checked for latest driver and am told it has the latest one. Other USB ports work OK.
i purchased a Silicon SiI3512 SATA Raid Controller purely to have 2 extra SATA ports which I am using to connect to my case's external drive bays. I have flashed the bios of the controller and updated the driver to put it in "Base" mode so it is not using RAID. I did extensive research on this and it appears that I have this part right. For now, I am trying to connect a WD1600BEVT 2.5" SATA-II hard drive to one of these ports and am having some difficulty. I can see the drive, but when I try to format the drive in Windows, or a command prompt (using the windows recovery DVD) it hangs. I am wondering if this is a compatibility issue with a SATA-II drive on a SATA-I controller, however, most of the forums I have read state that if there is a compatibility issue, the controller won't even recognize the drive. I searched around to see if there was a way to force the HDD to SATA(150), but the jumpers on this drive are for SSC and RPS. Is there a way to fix this or do I need a drive that is capable of forcing SATA-I speeds? Perhaps even a controller capable of at least SATA-II since that is the minimum of all new HDDs?
View 5 Replies View RelatedHave XP on C drive and looking to install Win 7 on 2nd Sata drive for dual boot. However, when installing a 2nd Sata drive my XP bios identifies it correctly as a Sata drive but my PC Disk management recognises it as a Removeable disk preventing me from installing Win 7. I have tried a couple of different Sata disks with the same result.

One of the drives assigned letter K often comes up as E and I have to change as application is looking for K. Another disk in this dock works fine. View 6 Replies View RelatedI have tried numerous times on my PC to install Windows 7 onto my Sata Drive to no avail. Yet as soon as I plug in my IDE HD it installs fine.I have unplugged all external peripherals USB and internal Card Reader. Set my Bios ok as it sees both the Hard Drive and DVD fine (Both in the bios and during selection of hard drive during windows 7 installation). Yet when I come to install it, it craps out at a random percentage saying cannot read from source or worse yet it crawls so slow through the percentages (I really don't think Windows 7 should take 6 hours to get to 15%!!) Yet both the hard drive and dvd are fine and the disc works great on my other PC without the sata drive in.
My motherboard is a Biostar G31-M7 TE with latest bios now what is odd is that I recently updated the BIOS to the latest one so does my problem come from here or was it always going to be a problem on this board? Also when I do have Windows 7 installed on the IDE drive when I plug in ther sata drive inside the whole system goes belly up (from freezes when transferring large files to just not seeing the drive)
I downloaded/installed Visual C++ 2010 Express and the service pack. I'm using my "D" drive as a folder to hold my movies and any files I need to backup. I checked the drive this morning to add some folders and I have two files that werent there before. Both are named "VS_EXPBSLN_x64_enu", one is a winzip file and the other is a Windows installer package.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know that you just have to plug an external hard drive in to a computer and it works right away. My problem is, I used my external hard drive so I could tape TV shows on my Bell Express Vu receiver. I disconnected the external drive and want to use it on my computer but for some reason, I can't get it to work. It shows up under Devices and it's called "Desktop". Can't see what's on it or even open it. Normally they will show up under the same area as you other drives but it won't this time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to reinstall my Windows 7 from cracked to legal. My PC has 3 HD in it. 200 GB SATA, 200 GB Primary IDE and 160 GB Secondary IDE. It is currently loaded on the 200gb Primary IDE and the other 2 are for backup and saving data. Would I be better off installing Windows 7 on the SATA drive and using both IDE drives for backup and saving data? If so is the easiest way to just disconnect the IDE drives until Windows 7 is installed then format the original OS drive to use for backup?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHaving just bought a new PC i was left with a perfectly good SATA HDD which I intended for use in backups. The drive seemed to work ok until it cane to backing up! The drive was 320gb but when trying to back up it shows as only 47gb (not much good for a full backup).
View 3 Replies View RelatedBefore I made the commitment to use Windows 7 as my primary OS, I figured I'd experiment in a dual boot environment. My current setup is Windows XP (x32) installed on a 500GB SATA drive. This drive has a partition for the OS and a separate partition for all of my files and data. To install Windows 7 I removed my SATA drive and (successfully) installed Windows 7 (64-bit) onto an 80GB IDE drive (controller 0, disk 0).
After the installation I shut down my system, reconnected my SATA drive, changed the BIOS boot order to look at my IDE and Windows 7 booted without a hitch. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-K8U-939
Now, with Windows 7 running and my SATA drive connected, Windows 7 does *not* recognize the drive. It is completely missing from the disk manager. I loaded the drivers for my motherboard ((however since the MoBo is a couple years old, it doesn't have Vista or Windows 7 drivers)), it loaded quasi-successfully but spat out some error about it not being totally successful. Now, after I log into Windows 7 I receive an error that goes like,
Code: Initial ALiRAID error!!Please Check:
1) ALiRAID driver is installed
2) ALiRAID controller is connected to disk drive(s)
When I reboot my computer and switch the boot order in the BIOS to boot from my IDE drive, my system will boot into Windows XP without any problem at all. I've also switched the BIOS setting from "RAID" to "IDE" for the SATA drive and that appears to have done nothing towards Windows 7 being able to access it.
There's gotta be some way to get Windows 7 to see my SATA drive, doesn't there?
I have installed windows 7 ultimate x64 and i am really impressed by it.
but i have a question for you, i have a second 500 gb sata hard drive which i have connected after the install which is formatted with ntfs file system from my original windows xp o/s , it shows up in device manager but will not work , windows ask me to format the drive which i dont want to do because has loads of files on which i dont want to lose.
am i missing something they both use the ntfs file system .
I am wanting to add a 3rd drive to my dell GX620. It has only 2 ports for SATA. Any good ideas on how to do this? Maybe convert an EIDE port?
I have a sata dvd writer, and two sata hard drives. Hoping to use them all. DVD writer is a lightscribe that's why I wanted to keep it.
This seems to be such a frequent issue that it could/should be a FAQ but I haven't found my answer yet.
I am (currently) running Windows 7 64 ULT on my home PC. I purchased an Intel X25M 80GB SATA drive and connected it in order to benefit from the speed. The issue is that setup hangs during the "expanding files" on this drive. Looking back I have *never* been able to install windows (XP Vista or 7) on a SATA drive on my mobo.
In order to avoid confusions I did the following.Removed the 2x400GB striped drives. Removed the old PATA-IDE drive, therefore only drives available were the Optiarc DVD and the new Intel SSD.
How to Install a SATA DVD CD Drive in a Desktop PC ?
View 0 Replies View RelatedMy setup: XP on my C-drive with 2x SATA drives as slaves.
My requirement: I want to take my drives out and just use one of my SATA drives to install WINDOWS 7. If i tell my BIOS that my new C-Drive is that SATA drive, will i have to tell it again that my old drive is an IDE when i put that back in without the new SATA drive plugged in.
My reason: I have got the new WINDOWS 7 and want to install everything and update all my programs also have a good look and learn before i start having my work on it. It is easier for me to just unplug the power leads on each drive before i start then to have to redo all my work if i mess WINDOWS 7 up and have to format. I cant afford to loose everything.
Yes i could back everything up but i need to work while this is happening if you know what i mean.
I'm trying to install from a sata dvd drive onto an ide hard disc. I have the raid drivers for my board, x64 vista drivers to be exact.
During the install sequence I obviously get to the bit that asks me to insert a driver disc for the dvd drive. Currently the drivers are on a floppy, so insert the floppy disc and browse to the drivers. windows 7 then starts to load the drivers them fails with a message stating it can't find find drivers for this drive.
Has anyone else tried installing from a sata drive, and if so how did you get on?
I have a couple of these older drives in good condition is it possible to install one and backup my OS/image file from my sata drive, and be able to restore in case of system crash? Or should I get another Sata drive or usb flash drive instead?

I think I have RAID on in the BIOS configuration but I don't really want to turn it off because in that way my old WinXP would die. I just wanted to give Windows 7 a try before I completely change to it. Could anyone help me? I could provide more information about the desktop if necessary.
I have built a new system with a 60GB SSD to install the OS on and a 2TB hard drive for everything else. The 2TB drive can be seen in the BIOS but cant be accessed from windows.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBought a LG Blu-ray internal sata rewriter. Installed it and windows 7 found it first time. So far so good. Put windows into sleep mode and when I woke it up the sata drive was missing. The drive was not only missing, but the tray failed to manually open and the activity light did not illuminate. Drive totally dead. Check all power and sata cables all ok. Done a full reboot and drive came back ok. This only happens when the machine is put into sleep mode. Sata drivers all up to date and all cables 100%. Turn the machine fully off or restart and everything works ok each time. Use sleep mode and it fails when you bring the m/c to life.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS730 with the Nvidia Nforce 790i chipset. I run two 500 gig SATA drives under RAID 0. I recently installed an Intel X25 80 gig SSD and have ran into problems. Windows recognizes the drive as SCSI in device manager. Granted it works however because it is listed as SCSI TRIM and the intel toolbox wont work which makes an SSD useless. After tons of research I have found that because of the Nvidia chipset it makes the drive show up as SCSI. I have tried Vista and Windows 7, both show it as SCSI. I have moved the SATA cable away from the other main 4 that support RAID with no luck. I have refomatted several times as well with no luck. I have completely disabled RAID in the bios and it STILL shows as SCSI. Is there any way to get around this? I have read that changing the nvidia controller drivers may work but im not sure what I would switch them to?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently built me a new pc. Everything went fine and I managed to install windows 7 64 bit. Couple of days later, I needed to re-install windows again. So I changed the bios so that it would recognise the dvd drive and boot the windows cd. However, this doesn't seem to happen. Once windows is installed, the Sata drive is recognised in windows and is usable. I managed to get a workaround by using an ide dvd drive to install windows but I would like to be able to use the Sata drive that I have put in the machine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to install a Windows 7 OEM x64 onto an older machine I have. MB is a Foxconn NF4UK8AA-8EKRS, CPU is AMD Athlon 64 x2, 4200+ 2.25 GHz, RAM 1GB. I installed a new OEM 500GB SATA hard drive unformatted.
Current OS is Windows XP Home SP2, I deleted SP3 since it was giving me some problems with auto login.
My DVD drive will not read the Windows 7 installation disk, similar to another post the drive just flashes, never spools up. It will read other CDs and DVDs.
I initialized the hard drive but have not partitioned or formatted the new SATA hard drive which is where I want to install the new OS. While the BIOS recognizes the drive, its not listed on Computer tree.
I have copied the Windows 7 OEM DVD contents onto a Folder that I created on a Toshiba External USB drive. Only had a 2GB USB Flash Drive so thought I would use the external drive and select the setup.exe in the Windows 7 files I copied into a folder without formatting a complete 250GB ext USB drive.
Question, can I partition and format the new SATA drive using the Windows XP Home Edition with an NTSF format and will this be recognized by Windows 7?
Question, can I install Windows 7 from the Toshiba Ext USB drive's folder onto the newly formatted SATA drive? Or does Windows 7 require a different formatting setup?
The BIOS and MB won't recognize a DVD drive it only allows a boot from CD. I removed the CD and DVD master/slave parallel cable and only installed the DVD as the master, but Windows 7 DVD just blinks and never spins the drive.
If I can get the new OS installed I'll remove my two older 40GB PATA hard drives and add more RAM. This machine is for my wife's use since it was in the garage gathering dust. Thought I would revive it and set up a wireless home group between my machine and her's. I added an all in one printer/copier/scanner in addition to the HP Photosmart D7460 I have so we can share files, printers and Internet connection.
I have been building my own machines since about 1990. Building a machine is fun (takes maybe 2hrs) but all the software kicks my butt. Also I went to the OEM System Builder License at Microsoft OEM Partner Center that is the most confusing arrangement I have ever seen. I'm just a home builder having fun, not a business, must I buy the full version to get this installed?
I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a WD 500gb freshly formatted to NTFS. Windows 7 first copies the files and then says its starting up and then hangs up. My bios see's the hard drive and knows it's there. I never get a chance to use F6 to load the Sata drivers that I have on a floppy drive.
It never asks me. I first tried to load with the Sata Drive unpartitioned but that failed. So I am now trying to do it on a formatted drive. I'm not sure if the problem is that Windows 7 doesn't recognize that I have a Sata Drive attached. Can anyone give me some ideas for things to try?
I took the motherboard, processor, and ram back to Frys and got store credit. I changed from a Gigabyte motherboard to an Asus motherboard, same processor, and associated ram. Windows 7 loaded with no problems.
Fry's stated that the motherboard must have been bad due to the issues that I was having. The processor and ram were suspected to be good. When I loaded Windows 7 I didn't have to load any Sata drivers the bios and windows 7 picked up the Sata Drive with no problems.
I have a custom built HTPC with a Seagate SATA drive. Media Center halted, and Win7 would not reboot. When I attempt to reinstall Win7 it cannot find the drive (C) - "No drive were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation."
My research tells me SATA drives don't have drivers. I've changed BIOS SATA drivers from "Enhanced" to "Compatible" with no effect.
Don't know what to try next.
My secondary sata 1TB disappears after a long sleep mode. How can I fix this problem?
