I have restored 7 Ultimate from backup, HDD crash. Only thing, it will not sleep/suspend. I have tried tweaking the power options to no avail. Thought it may be Crap Cleaner deleting a registry key but restoring reg from backup, then rebooting did not work. When I hit sleep it justs goes to logon screen, if I deselect password on resume it just dims screen & dumps at desktop.
View 9 RepliesDue to needing to clean C drive and re-install Windows, I backed up just the user profiles to an external hard drive using the Windows 7 utility. I have restored the profiles using the same utility but the profile names and logo's do not appear on the welcome screen. I can see the files and folders in Explorer but I thought that the profiles would be automatically re-created. Have I missed something?
Incidentally, when I reloaded windows I created an Admin profile for setting everything up and did not use my actual profile name.
Will the computer automatically resume from sleep when Run backup on a schedule is set at a time when the computer is sleeping or do we have to tweak the task scheduler?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm fixing my sisters computer, It froze on her, when she tried to start it up again it went into some sort of system repair mode and after about 20hrs of this (no joke) it gave me the option to restore the computer to factory settings, it also gave me the option to install some sort of backup on the hard drive, however i tried this and it said there was no room on the hard drive (if i didn't know any better I'd say the problem was with the hard drive) i went ahead with the system recovery as it seemed to be the only way to fix the computer (i know i sound like an oaf) now the computer is showing me a screen which states that i need to insert my windows installation disc, however the laptop has no disc drive!

Sometimes when I click start and sleep on my computer (windows 7) the monitor will go to sleep but the computer is still running. I cannot wake my monitor up so there is nothing I can do to wake it up besides manually turning it off using the button on the computer case.

I need to know how i can do a image backup for these Two drives C and I together so that if both fail or one fails i can restore. for drive c: its OS and some apps then on drive I: it is games on this drive. so the games are installed on I: drive. how can i keep the integrity of both drives as a backup so that i dont have to reinstall all the games i have installed again ( takes too long)?

I just got it back from the warranty repair center, where they replaced the hard drive and graphics fan & heatsink, and reloaded the factory windows version. Before I sent it out for repair, I used Windows Backup to create a backup of all my files on a Toshiba casio 500GB external USB drive (I had over 300 GB of files, so it was easier to use Windows Backup than drag and drop all the files, at least at the time). Now that I have the laptop back, I'm having trouble restoring my files. When I go to Control Panel-> Backup & Restore, a message appears in the restore section, saying "Windows could not find a backup for this computer." I've tried reconnecting the drive as well as restarting my computer, but to no avail. I can see and explore the files in My Computer, so I know the hard drive is properly connected.

Now when my PC boots, I get the mobo splash screen and then just a cursor. When I put my Win 7 install disk in I can "press any key" to boot from it and the DVD goes right to where I can repair my installation. It sees my partition and when I use the cmd prompt using diskpart, I can see that the win 7 volume is c:, active, and all my files are in the right spot. However when I look at the volume numbers, my c: is volume 2 and my DVD drives are volumes 1 & 2. So how do I change my c: drive to volume 0? I've read that this is how you set the c: to boot properly.
The Win 7 drive is a WD 500gb IDE. When I put this drive into any other PC, it does the same thing. Mobo splash or POST screen then just a cursor. I can't enter Safe Mode or anything except to put a disc in the DVD drive and boot from it. I tried fiddling with my mobo settings and they are normal. If I take my Win 7 drive out and put it as a slave or as a USB external drive, I can see everything and do whatever with the files.

My old HDD also had two other primary partitions one of which probably had some system/boot files etc,. I do not have a backup of these two primary partitions, however, I do have a paragon backup of my logical drive D: extended partition. I got me a new HDD, created a new NTFS primary partition with a drive letter C:. I then restoed the paragon backup of my windows D: drive on to this new primary C: partition. Now, I am not able to boot windows 7. Seems like I need to create a new system partition with boot files to be able to boot my Win 7.

My sister was on my laptop, when the screen froze, she pushed the power-off button to turn it off. When I tried to restart it later, there was this green screen giving me the option of making a backup or to restore. I chose to restore, and after that was completed, my computer would load normally, except now it says msn "stopped working" and when I go to my homepage (google) it loads normally, but when I tryto search something, it says Internet explorer stopped working and tells me to close the program.

Why would this happen, can I undo it, and how do I prevent it for future backups. My original backup shows up under my original name - Tom-PC. I have an SSD now and liked how smoothly the computer would resume from the default sleep mode power settings that came with win7, so for the first time I've actually been using them on my desktop. However, since installing sp1, sleep no longer seems to work. When I woke up this morning and when i came home from work, the computer was not in sleep mode. Normally I expect to see the power button flashing, and in neither case it was. When I start the computer it asks me how i want to enter windows, just like it does normally if windows crashes. Everything else on my computer is working as expected.

I tried to do a recovery from the disk image, but my VISTA volume does not restore. Is there anyway to restore both volumes? The recovery indicates the both volumes are to be restored, both only the Windows 7 volume is restored.

I recently got a new Lenovo laptop and purchased brand new application software so I could get a clean installation. After 1 month of running both systems and gradually moving material over to the Lenovo, I cleaned the Sony and did a recovery to the original, store bought condition. Now I realize that I failed to move over some pictures. I have a Windows Image of the Sony on an external hard drive. Is there a way I can get the pics from the Windows Image onto the new Lenovo?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer is running Windows 7 professional. It is a fresh install. I have a blu ray drive installed (LG BH12ls38) that works fine. However, when I put my computer to sleep and wake it back up, the drive is gone. When I go to device manager and try to scan for hardware changes it still doesn't recognize it. The only way to solve the problem is to shut down the computer. Restarting the computer doesn't work. If I restart, the computer stays on the motherboards screen for a longer period of time then it normally does (about 30 seconds). Also, it seems that this drive is affecting the computer when I shut it down. After having this problem of not being able to find the drive it seems my computer takes longer to shut down.
I have installed all necessary updates for Windows and the driver is provided by Microsoft driver version - 6.1.7601.17514 and date is 6/21/2006. I called LG and they have not been able to find a solution. It seems they do not provide/have a driver and rely on microsoft's drivers. I also updated my BIOS to the newest version. I went to my local store and tried another LG drive which was older and not blu ray and it worked fine so it's not a motherboard or power issue. My computer is running in IDE mode. The reason I state that is because I saw some posts about people switching from IDE to AHCI mode. However, I talked to the technician at my local microcenter and he said this wouldn't be the issue. Sounds to me like firmware issue?

After reading through this forum, I tried disabling the Homegroup on both Win 7 computers. Even tried disabling the IPv6 on the network adapters.
I've also made sure power remains on to the wireless adapter even when computer is asleep. And updated all my drivers, etc. turning off the wired Win 7 computer. The laptop is also showing a Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #3.
After restoring an image made with Clonezilla that used to work, Windows 7 is unable to start. When prompted, I used the DVD, but it still fails with "Startup Repair could not detect a problem".When rebooting, it says "Windows Error Recovery: Launch Startup Repair (recommended) and Start Windows Normally": Launch Startup Repair fails with "Windows Boot Manager: 0xc000000e The Boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible".FWIW, to investigate, I deleted both partitions (#1 to hold the OS, #2 to hold images) and re-created them with enough space to hold (#1 was made a bit bigger because I didn't know how to specify infos in cfdisk accurately), and Clonezilla happily restored the image.

The screen flashes, I have adjusted monitor display size. Computer will not complete a backup. I hear my dvd drive making noises. The computer is slow. Could not install adobe reader until last night. My last index number was 3.3 to 2.6 and now it says 3.3. I don't know what my default browser is, firefox, and windows tell me they are not.
How do I find out if I have malware, virus and or browser is jacked? My prairie form cleaner shows me my computer is collecting large files or daily activity. Also, I want to know if my computer is recording, how can I tell? I want to make sure the back door is closed. I cannot set up symbols on MS debugger (after many attempts) I have attached screenshots of cpu-z (both tabs) and my event viewer which lists 24 critical failures, all event ID 41: "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
p.s. Dunno if this is important but the machine is a Sony Vaio but I have uninstalled all sony bloat ware (except Vaio Control Center)
