Laptop Won't Reconnect After Sleep If Wired Windows 7 Computer Is On
Nov 27, 2011
if my Win 7 computer is on and connected to the router (wired), then neither my Toshiba laptop (also running Win 7) nor an iPod will reconnect after sleep.
After reading through this forum, I tried disabling the Homegroup on both Win 7 computers. Even tried disabling the IPv6 on the network adapters.
I've also made sure power remains on to the wireless adapter even when computer is asleep. And updated all my drivers, etc. turning off the wired Win 7 computer. The laptop is also showing a Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #3.
Wi-Fi does not reconnect after login / sleep / reboot. It always prompts me for the password. In "Manage Wireless Networks", it is set to "Automatically Connect". But somehow Windows "forgets" the password.
This topic was posted in Dec without a fix. I have 2 Toshiba Satellite laptops with a Realtek wireless adapter running Windows 7 64 bit. Just started having the problem about a month ago with both laptops. The adapter is disable when lid is closed. I want the computer to go to Sleep when not in use, but the adapter will not reconnect when the lid is raised and I log back in. I must manually disable and then enable the adapter (in Admin mode) to re-connect to the wireless network or reboot the computer. The computer is plugged into the power adapter. Power options are set to maximum performance. I checked all the power settings, adapter properties to automatically connect, and WLAN is the service running in automatic mode. Microsoft Answers has no answer to the problem either.
Sometimes when I click start and sleep on my computer (windows 7) the monitor will go to sleep but the computer is still running. I cannot wake my monitor up so there is nothing I can do to wake it up besides manually turning it off using the button on the computer case.
My PC connects to the internet (wired) perfectly, but my TOSHIBA laptop does not. The router does not show the correct lights when plugged into the laptop, so I have tried resetting the router (with no success). When I plug the ethernet cable into the laptop, nothing happens at all.
Why does my HP LaserJet P2015dn not print? It says Printer Offline. I am using Windows 7 but this has happened before with other versions of Windows and I have had to have it fixed. There is another computer connected to the printer.
I have a new Desktop running Win 7 64 Bit and a laptop running Win 7 32 Bit. The desktop is hard-wired to my router and the laptop is connected to my WI-FI network, along with my printers and back-up drive. I would like to set up a homegroup so I can share files between them and hopefully synch my two Outlook Contact files and back both up on my Buffalo back-up hardrive. How can I enable the two computers to see one another? Also how do I change the name of my laptop?
Whenever I press the sleep button on my computer, or when I leave it idle and it goes to sleep by itself, I get a blue screen of death. I would really like to solve thiNow, this computer came with an AMD video card, but I uninstalled those drivers and took out the video card and installed a GTX 570 from EVGA. The drivers are up to date, so I am pretty sure the new hardware is installed correctly. Furthermore, it was not doing this for the first few months of having the video card installed. This is very recent, so I don't understand what it could be
What are my options for connecting a laptop wirelessly to a workstation that is connected to a wired LAN and has no router?Essentially, I want to add wireless connectivity to the workstation so that the laptop can connect to the wired LAN via the workstation.
I have had a Acer Aspire 5742-6814 for a month or so now. Yesterday it suddenly would not connect to the wireless network in my apartment and won't connect to a wired network either. It says that the wireless drivers are up to date and it just stopped working out of nowhere. I tried connecting to my school wireless network and that would not work either. I have tried some of the solutions that I have seen including: Resetting modem in apartment. Checking "Connect even if network is not broadcasting its name (SSID)" (which seemed to work for some people with similar problems). I really have no idea what is wrong or if it some kind of hardware issue. I can provide any further details.
My Desktop is connected to a NetGear Router and is on a DLS line to internet. My wireless laptop picks up signal ok and goes online, it also "sees" desktop name, but I can't connect to it for file and printer sharing.
I have a new Windows 7 (HP) laptop normally connecting to a Netgear WNDR3700v2 router wirelessly. There is also windows XP-Pro file server, an XP thin client (running phone system) connected to the router via Ethernet. Finally, there is a 500GB USB drive plugged into to the router's USB ReadyShare port.
When the laptop is connected via Ethernet it can see and communicate with all Ethernet devices and all Ethernet devices can connect with the wireless laptop including the routers ReadyShare USB storage. All connectivity appears normal and shares are valid and recognized.
When the laptop is connected wirelessly, all wired devices continue to recognize it normally but can NOT communicate with it. The laptop sees nothing but the router's gateway. It does not recognize any other device connected to the router wirelessly or via Ethernet and does not recognize the USB storage connected to the router via ReadyShare.
It should be noted that the Netgear WNDR3700v2 router does see all wired and wireless devices. Also note that network discovery and file sharing is enabled on the laptop.
Netgear has assured me that all is well with the router (and I agree). I believe the problem is with Windows 7 wireless settings but this is the first Windows 7 device we have and I just don't know enough about the OS to know where to look to correct the problem.

i have desktop with internet connection via cable to ADSL2+ Router and 2 laptop with internet connection via wirless to Wireless Access Point which is connected to the ADSL2+ Router

I recently replaced my wireless router and Bellsouth DSL modem with a single Netgear DGN2200 DSL modem/wireless router. The problem is my desktop which is wired, cannot see the laptop computers that are on the network via wireless connection. If I start a homegroup with one of the laptops, the other laptop can join but my desktop cannot (no "join now" option). If I start a homegroup with my wired desktop, neither laptop sees it.However, if I connect my desktop to the network using my USB wireless adapter, then I can establish a homegroup with either a laptop or the desktop with no problem.I have checked that IPv6 is enabled and that all the services listed in other posts are enabled. I'm fairly certain the cause is some setting in my router security, but I don't see anything that would prevent my desktop from linking. I can also get on the internet with no problem.
I've been having internet connection problems for the last couple weeks, i moved my entire setup closer to my router, and i still had bad internet. I searched around my house a little bit and found ethernet cables, i connected them and everything but, windows doesn't seem to detect them (well it does but it doesn't use it as the connection)
I have a Toshiba L675D Laptop with Windows 7 Home edition and Microsoft Office 2007. When i turn on my computer first hing in the morning, my computer will not connect to the the drives located on our server. I have to restart or even shutdown and restart my computer sometimes multiple times before it will recognize the drives.
For some reason my router and modem will not show correctly on my dell inspirion one desktop. Im running windows 7 and here are the net work connection deatils

The Connection was working about ten days ago and then suddenly stopped and read as an unidentified network no internet access. at one point is was not receiving packets but now it is but it still says no internet access on the IPv4 Connectivity. Media state is also enabled and the speed is 100.0 Mbps when i troubleshoot it says windows cant identify problem but in the details it says default gateway is available. when i use the cmd prompt ipconfig/all my local ethernet adapter has a physical address of all zeros.
I have been trying to sync iTunes version 10.7 with my ipad in Windows 7. I have tried just about everything I can think of and it still goes to sleep or crashes where I have to restart everything when I hit the power buttion.
I don't know if it's Microsoft's bad OS or this crumby Korean computer - but it sucks to be back with Windows after a decade of Macintosh! This computer randomly fails to wake up. The mouse icon moves, but my screens are all black. I can control-alt-delete to raise the task manager screen. But then clicking does NOTHING.Windows is a **** OS. I hate it. It's always pissed me off since Bill Gates "created" it. Click click click - are you sure you want to click? Why don't you click some more? click click click. Would you like to click again? Are you sure you'd like to click again? And how about all those REALLY helpful popup windows. So thoughtful and caring.Oh yeah, windows. That's why. Such vision.Bill Gates has NO TASTE! I wish Steve Jobs was still alive!here are so many stupid bugs in this system. It reminds me of Millennium Edition. DOes anyone remember that BS? If I didn't need this shite for work I'd burn it. Or enjoy hacking it to bits with an axe.Can anyone help me sort this out? Or am I doomed to continually click stupidly until my tendons freeze up with carpal tunnel and my eyes fall out from staring at the ugly designs everywhere?Lastly, there's an infuriating naming bug - sometimes Windows 7, so intelligently designed, believes a file is open when it is not. Windows won't let you change the name of a file or folder if it believes a file in that folder is open. Brilliant. So, guess what? Yeah, I can't change the effing file name and have to shut down the computer. Since I work in a firm with a high volume of files changing names frequently, I can't tell you how much this pisses me off.Somebody get Windows to hire someone with creative vision who understands how to streamline operations! Someone teach Bill Gates how to paint a picture! In the meantime, I'm going to work on convincing my entire office to move to Mac.
I recently built my machine. It was working fine doing things in windows and out. I have an SSD now and liked how smoothly the computer would resume from the default sleep mode power settings that came with win7, so for the first time I've actually been using them on my desktop. However, since installing sp1, sleep no longer seems to work. When I woke up this morning and when i came home from work, the computer was not in sleep mode. Normally I expect to see the power button flashing, and in neither case it was. When I start the computer it asks me how i want to enter windows, just like it does normally if windows crashes. Everything else on my computer is working as expected.
I have a problem with Windows 7. I cannot use the sleep function! This is is so frustrating.. I used to put my computer to sleep all the time in XP. But when I upgraded to Windows 7 a while ago, my computer just wakes up instantly after going into sleep mode, as if I was spamming the power button. I have tried searching for answers, and one solution I have tried was the "network card activity problem". However, it didn't work.
Since doing a clean install of Windows 7 my internet keeps timing out. The icon in the task bar shows that it's normal, but I'll be online and after a couple minutes the internet just stops. When I click on the icon it says "connected" and "internet access."I have tried on both a Netgear and Apple router, so it's not a router issue. I reset the modem and routers a dozen times. I called my ISP and they said everything looks normal. My Droid phone works fine and so does a Macbook in the house.I have rolled back my Atheros5007 wireless card driver, which did nothing. And then tried upgrading the latest version, which did nothing. Uninstalled the driver then reinstalled, still with no luck.I was running Windows 7 fine all year and did the clean install as something I do every year to keep my computer running well.
i have a problem in win 7 on 2 different comp...on 2 dif wireless(an atheros laptop wireless and an atheros usb)i can setup an ad hoc connection with internet no problem....works like a charm but...if the server computer enters to sleep....after resume....the ad-hoc doesnt work anymore...only sais "identify.." and doesnt work anymore....need to make another new ad-hoc connection to make it workthe ad-hoc connection is saved so i can use it another time....but once disconnected i can never reconnect to make it work... i know the ad-hoc network its a temprary connection...but why bother to save it if it doesnt work afterwardsthe command << netsh wlan connect name=Profile2 ssid=SSID2 interface="Wireless Network Connection">> works smooth but its in vain if the connection is not working after reconnect..i said before its not working on s3....but not working on restart either....not even working if i disconnect the host PC and connect it again.
I have a puzzling problem, my new laptop allows a variety of power adjustment settings, however the only choice *sleep* for the lid closing, it is greyed out so I cannot select anything else, in the advanced settings no matter which configuration I choose for the rest, I am given just one choice.I always set ac connected lid close to do nothing on any laptop I have ever had before so I am mighty confused why I have no choice.
My computer is running Windows 7 professional. It is a fresh install. I have a blu ray drive installed (LG BH12ls38) that works fine. However, when I put my computer to sleep and wake it back up, the drive is gone. When I go to device manager and try to scan for hardware changes it still doesn't recognize it. The only way to solve the problem is to shut down the computer. Restarting the computer doesn't work. If I restart, the computer stays on the motherboards screen for a longer period of time then it normally does (about 30 seconds). Also, it seems that this drive is affecting the computer when I shut it down. After having this problem of not being able to find the drive it seems my computer takes longer to shut down.
I have installed all necessary updates for Windows and the driver is provided by Microsoft driver version - 6.1.7601.17514 and date is 6/21/2006. I called LG and they have not been able to find a solution. It seems they do not provide/have a driver and rely on microsoft's drivers. I also updated my BIOS to the newest version. I went to my local store and tried another LG drive which was older and not blu ray and it worked fine so it's not a motherboard or power issue. My computer is running in IDE mode. The reason I state that is because I saw some posts about people switching from IDE to AHCI mode. However, I talked to the technician at my local microcenter and he said this wouldn't be the issue. Sounds to me like firmware issue?
I have restored 7 Ultimate from backup, HDD crash. Only thing, it will not sleep/suspend. I have tried tweaking the power options to no avail. Thought it may be Crap Cleaner deleting a registry key but restoring reg from backup, then rebooting did not work. When I hit sleep it justs goes to logon screen, if I deselect password on resume it just dims screen & dumps at desktop.
