I don't have any system audio at all on Windows 7 Home Premium Edition. The Troubleshooter has not provided any answers, except for a reference to a generic sounding Intel high definition audio driver. I have not been able to locate this driver on the Intel web page or elsewhere online. How to enable audio on my edition of Windows 7.

But there is only one thing that is reproducible: When both my audio driver and my network driver are enabled, and a sound is played, the sound infinitely stutters and windows totally freezes. (There is no BSOD, the screen and cursor just remain frozen). If either device/driver is enabled independently, the computer seems to work.

I have two HDs in my system:
1. WD Caviar Blue 500GB (OS Drive)
2. WD Caviar Green 1TB
I've read that enabling write-caching may speed up drive performance. I checked on my 1TB drive, it was already enabled. On my 500GB drive though it was disabled.So I then decided to enable write-caching on my 500GB drive. I proceeded to do so without any apparent problems. However after doing a system restart I saw that it went back to being disabled again.I've tried this several times already, same thing each time!Enable write caching restart write caching disabled again.
Computers says thers audio and drivers are all correct and enabled tried reinstalling the drivers. but still. No sound?!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't have an answer but I do have a similiar problem. I upgraded from XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro 32 bit on my netbook. I created a bootable USB, copied the windows 7 files onto it and everything worked OK. However, when I bootup I also get the Boot Manager screen offering me 2 options:
Windows 7
Windows setup (EMS enabled)
which goes ahead and boot into Windows 7 after a countdown. Why would I ever want to boot into Winsdows setup? I would like to know if there is a proper way to bypass this boot manager screen. When I was installing the upgrade, I did see a small 40mb partition which was "reserved by the OEM" which I could not use, is that anything to do with it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 boots to a black screen. Running on a dell e520, I've used the dell diagnostics to scan all the hardware, no issues were found. Computer works more then fine when windows boots. boots into safe mode, and runs when i select the debug option from the safe mode boot menu. also booted once or twice without keyboard connected.
Whats inside the computer besides the processor and a hard drive? zotac 9800 gt : OC to 630mz with rivatuner (stable, machine doesn't boot with OC disabled) crappy sound blaster audigy.
The problem is recent, no hardware changes where made in the last 6 months. (problem never happened in xp)

So I have just installed 2 extra GBs of RAM to bring my total to 4GB. After a successful boot and then checking my 'System' info Windows states 4.00GB of memory is installed but only 2.94GB is usable.Therefore I went ahead into my BIOS to enable the 'Memory Remap Feature'.However on reboot the PC gets to the 'Starting Windows' screen and doesn't get any further. The Windows logo doesn't start to appear. It just restarts going through all the usual screens again, eventually giving two options of:-
Launch Startup Repair or Start Windows Normally. The repair never works and Windows will never start normally again until I return to the BIOS to disable the mem remap.I reset the CMOS to Factory Default settings and tried again but did nothing. Also I have never updated the BIOS from the original version as I'm a bit scared to do so.I have looked hear for info on voltages and clocking but didn't get anywhere. Well got an overclock at 3.60Hz but only ran in Safe Mode. Obviously this is slightly irrelevant the above but was just trying stuff out and trying to learn more.

After playing videos and audios for a while, suddenly there is no audio when playing videos or audio clips and the system freezes and I turned it off. I just updated iTunes to the latest version and was syncing with the iPod. I also updated Avast free anti-virus to the latest version about 2 days ago. That was last night. This morning, I also experienced the same thing. I was also syncing using iTunes. I was using Chrome and after I closed it it would not start again. Then the system reboot itself. Recently I also use msconfig to uncheck HPMSGSVC.exe (and a few other options) because it was taking so much time to boot up.
What is causing this suddenly no audio problem, among others, I described. Windows froze again after I typed the last sentence. I shutdown and restart windows. This happens after 1-3 hours of use since last night.
i was forced to perform a system restore today, and i restored to what i had about 6 days ago, when my audio was working fine. now, everything sounds like crap, with a bunch of electronic crackling on Internet and windows 7 sounds. i tried to reinstall my motherboard audio drivers, but i'm not sure where to extract the files.

View 9 Replies View Relatedultimate is installed on my machine. everything was working perfectly including mics, speakers and rosetta stone software. then i went through the windows 7 vr training and setup and now my audio files are skipping the 1st 0.1 -2 seconds. it happens in speech recognition software. rosetta stone randomly now cuts of the beginning of every word/ phrase and the default tts message "you have selected microsoft anna (or other) as the computers default voice" skips the 1st couple of words. last time this happened i went for a full reinstall - and there is so much software on thr pc it took literally days to complete. in order to avoid that step again i would hope there is a work around for this problem. i have tried several restore function but its not fixing the problem. uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers

View 1 Replies View RelatedI ran the disk cleanup and it freed up several GB of space on my C drive (I have a Dell laptop with a C drive with about 62 GB of space and a D drive with 426 GB.I let it run overnight because it said it was going to take 6 hours (no idea how long it actually took).
It had either shut down or hibernated, so I turned it back on the next morning. Windows booted up, but has not been working--I can't use the shortcuts, and even if I click on something from the start menu it won't run. (Firefox, for example, or other programs). It gives me an error message about the data not being found with an I/O error.I am able to use the internet and some programs in Safe Mode, which is what I'm doing now.I can't use my audio system in Safe Mode.I have the upgrade CD for Windows 7--they sent it after I had bought the computer. Do I need to reinstall Windows 7?Can I do it from the update CD?Do I need to back up all of my files (photos, etc) before I reinstall it?
My computer was recently RMA'd due to a faulty PSU and video card. I just received it back and the speakers that I used before no longer work. I figured it was a driver issue and simply downloaded the RealTek drivers but it didn't fix the problem. The AMD card comes with its own drivers. I had problems in the past with their HD audio codecs and tried uninstalling them but that didn't seem to fix it either. I went into device manager and located that there were drivers installed and they checked out. I checked for hidden or disabled devices in "Playback devices" and didn't find any.
Things I've tried:
- Installing audio drivers.
- Uninstalling and reinstalling audio drivers.
- System restore.
- Checking proper connection of speakers.
- Verification that speakers work.
By just looking at the audio mixer, it would appear that the system is playing sounds because there is activity in the mixer when a song or other sounds are playing. The problem is there is nothing coming from the speakers. Is it possible that my audio ports on the motherboard could be faulty?
