i was forced to perform a system restore today, and i restored to what i had about 6 days ago, when my audio was working fine. now, everything sounds like crap, with a bunch of electronic crackling on Internet and windows 7 sounds. i tried to reinstall my motherboard audio drivers, but i'm not sure where to extract the files.
View 6 RepliesI just recently received a new dell xps 9100 loaded with an intel I7 six core 930 processor, 16 gigs of ram, 2x1tb hardrives, soundblaster x-fi soundcard, ati radeon 5870 1gb video card and a few other goodies. when im listening to my music while running other applications it starts to crackle and pop and drops in quality drastically. I have tried installing a new soundcard, installed new drivers, changed the power settings and its still doing th e same thing. I am running windows 7 64 as well. The dell technician has even been here and tried to resolve the issue with no success. with the headphones on as well it still does the same thing.

I have used DPC Latency Checker and seen that when the audio crackles, the latency is very high. This screenshot shows the results of a UAC window popping up and being closed at the point when the bars are red.I was hoping it would resolve when I re-installed windows 7 and updated my drivers but the crackling still persists. By checking DPC latency when some devices were disabled in Device Manager one by one, I noticed that without my graphics card (nVidia GeForce GTS 250 512MB) driver installed, the audio crackling and latency was gone.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen using the WMC I have noticed crackling sounds when playing m2ts video files containing AVC and AC-3. I have noticed crackling sounds primarily on start up of the video file and sporadically during playback. At first I thought it might be a hw issue but now I'm not so sure. BTW the video playback appears to be okay...just a problem with the audio.
On the windows sw side I am fully up to date i.e. with Windows 7 HP x64.
On the hardware side I have updated by video and audio drivers to the latest...in fact all the drivers are upto date. The Machine is an Acer Aspire X1470 desktop model with 4 GB of ram. AMD Radeon HD 6410D Graphics (display adapter). AMD A4-3400 APU.
I have tried connecting the audio thru the on-board sound system. I've also tried using an external USB based sound I/F. Which one I use makes no difference...The crackling still comes thru.
Part of the reason I'm led to believe this is not strickly a hw issue is because I've tried playing these same files with XBMC and they play cleanly. So it would seem there is some kind of interaction issue hw and sw when using WMC on this computer. BTW I've tried using WMP (my preferred choice) but the audio and video degradation is markedly worse than WMC. I've included the Media info data for one of the files I've played below:

I'm having an issue with my audio that is driving me up a wall. I'm having that (apparently common) issue of crackling/popping/static-y audio on a Realtek chip. I've tried multiple drivers, from Realtek official to Generic to Vista ones. My latency graph has little to no spiking too! (A problem most people identified in the previous megathread). I know this is a solvable issue because previously I've had it under control. It was just so long ago and I've forgotten.[code] Bios, video card, and OS are up to date. If you need any other information I can get it.

I created a backup of my old registry before cleaning and I can access it using the command prompt that you can access in the system restore options. View 7 Replies View RelatedOK, so a couple of days ago, my HP desktop crashed and then went through the whole System Recovery loop(I couldn't login to Safe mode, wouldn't let me past the System Recovery Screen). Well I backed up the entire C drive using Backup your files in the menu. Then it shows you all the file types it will back up; i.e photos, videos, e-mails and bookmarks. So I did that to an external hard drive and it comes out to 143GB.Now comes my problem. I've been able to copy everything from the external hard drive using RecoveryMgr.exe which opens the WIM files and saves them to my C: hard drive under System Recovery Files. However it does not seem to work when it comes to putting in my old Thunderbird e-mails, contacts and such or in Firefox to restore my bookmarks, saved passwords.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSystem restore failed to extract the file. from the restore point. There was a disk failure during the restore. This might be caused by bad sectors on the disk. I get the same message, but with a different file name, with every restore point I try, and I have now tried all seven available restore points, going back to 30 Dec 2011. The computer was working perfectly until 3 days ago when it blue screened, and has not started properly since. It is a Corei5 with 4 GB RAM and is only 12 months old. I just dont believe the drive has that many bad sectors.

Lately whenever i try to start my computer it pass the Dell Bios and then directly goes to the screen which states
Repair your system or Start windows normally When i chose repair system , it start downloading windows files and then launch the windows , but hung up at the sky blue login window with only movable cusor . When i choose to start windows normally it gives me BSOD momentarly ( hard to see the message) and then restarts again . i tried with the advanced boot up options like
repair my computer , all safe modes , restore to last good configuration but it does the same and hangs at windows loging sky blue window .I Tried to run the Dell PSA+ Diagnostic and it returns with 2000-0146 error . As per the Dell online solutions for this type of error ,I tried to reinstall the Hard disk but the problem still exist.
Using preinstalled Win 7 Home Premium 64bit on an HP 6813w Pavilion. The original hard drive, a Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 1Tb crashed.1) System Recovery discs was made along with a System Recovery with System Image disc.2) A more current System Image was made on an external hard drive.The Hitachi was replaced with the same model. Checked bios to make sure it was installed correctly.Under System Recovery, Image Restore, Select a System Image Backup there is nothing in the table to choose from as far as a source (disc drive or external drive).A) System Recovery (3 discs) has the HP preinstall file folder on the 3rd disc but is not read by the System Recovery program.B) Under System Restore, Image Restore, Advanced, it asks for a network or driver to be installed. That opens up the directory of C: which is the external hard drive. Under WindowsImageBackup the computer name is identified followed by three entries:[CODE]It seems to me the Recovery and System Restore discs are not functional. Am not a technical person but I have taken this as far as I know how at this point.Printed out all the instructions from HP and Microsoft to follow step by step but the failed discs will not allow me to move forward.

We just had some very heavy rains with lightening and my computer shut down several times, but I could restart it each time...except for the last time when Windows wouldn't startup. At that point, Start Up Repair came into play. Did a system restore in Windows 7 and my dual boot system (Windows 7&XP) won't boot. It's looking for a boot device. When I put in a Hiren boot 10.6 disk, the dual boot option is one of a number of alternatives, and it allows me to get into my pc. How can I get back to having the system work like it did before? Something popped up and asked me if I wanted to download, and I wanted to say no, but my laptop's mouse is too sensitive at times, so I accidentally clicked yes. My computer automatically shut down right after that. Every time I turn it on now, it goes straight into System Repair and it doesn't work, it says it cannot repair. I've tried System Restore, but since that doesn't get rid of the documents that have been downloaded, it isn't helping either. My computer won't even let me enter any form of Safe Mode, it just goes straight back to System Repair.

Suddenly I found on one day that my user folder became 25GB without any reason. When looking into it and calculated all subfolders it even did not come to 1GB.So the C drive is almost full and I have no idea for the reason.
