View 2 RepliesI Have a game to play online which I run using a script (*.bat).sometimes I host a game and sometimes I don't...(by the way, I hope this isn't illegal wright? )now I've been setting up everything in windows firewall, inbount and outbound rules for that program and all that security stuff.now here are two scenarios where, one works and another unfotunately does not:
-I log in as admin into windows
-windows has UAC disabled
-I run a script
-I play the game online
Second scenario :
-I log in as admin into windows
-windows has UAC enabled
-I run a script as Administrator
-I can't play a game online cos it can't find any server
as you see in these two scenario only UAC on/off is difference. How do I fix that issuse by keeping UAC enabled?
To keep it simple, I want to stop/unlink shift+numpad buttons from performing the functions on the keys such as PgUp, End, PgDn etc. Can this be done?

View 1 Replies View RelatedRunning Win 7 Home with all latest updates. Why can't I access all Windows 7 functions in normal way, yet I can access them directly by a workaround? I recently found that I could not access the administrator functions for computer management on my home computer. For instance, when right clicking on the main "Computer" icon on my desktop and selecting "Manage" I would get an unspecified error. Going in through control panel I could not access many system admin tools and when I try I get error of you may not "have the appropriate permissions" This applies to "Services" "Component Services" "Computer Management".
Workaround: Today I found that I can open the administrative tool folder in Explorer directly and then right click on one of the management functions and select "Run as Administrator." Then it let's me in OK and I can control things. It's only the usual ways of accessing these controls that I can not now do. This is my personal computer and I'm logged on as administrator, the only account on the system, AND it is telling me I can't access all the files on my own computer's hard drive that you normally use to manage win 7. It's not networked files I'm trying to use but my own Win 7 computer's hard drive, e.g. I get the error when I click on own Desktop Computer Icon and select "Manage."
I recently upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate and Win Live Mail, and this is where the problem lays. How can I get back the File:Edit:View:Tools etc. back to the top of the page? As part of the same problem, I also want to have access to the text facilities of, Bold:Underlined:Italics:Bold Underline etc., functions. I managed to find the latter when I click "New"(mail) and then the "Message" tab, but when the drop down tool bar appears all the functions that appear on the right side of this panel are grayed out and access is denied.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo what i want to do is change my key functions on my keyboard (example: rather than ctrl-c i want to use command-c "aka windows-c")but i don't want to change the command key to be ctrl but make it so windows recognizes it as copy when i push command-c also want to change other stuff like ctrl-alt-del and paste and closing windows
the reason i don't want to change command to ctrl is if im in an application that i need to control i want to be able to hit the actual ctrl key.
i basically want to make my windows feel a little more like macintosh not in the way of looks but function of keys. hope it makes sense and hope someone knows how to do it.
please does any one know how to add spell check function to right click. When filling out online job application for example on XP I had spell check option on right click but do not on windows 7.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't have an answer but I do have a similiar problem. I upgraded from XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro 32 bit on my netbook. I created a bootable USB, copied the windows 7 files onto it and everything worked OK. However, when I bootup I also get the Boot Manager screen offering me 2 options:
Windows 7
Windows setup (EMS enabled)
which goes ahead and boot into Windows 7 after a countdown. Why would I ever want to boot into Winsdows setup? I would like to know if there is a proper way to bypass this boot manager screen. When I was installing the upgrade, I did see a small 40mb partition which was "reserved by the OEM" which I could not use, is that anything to do with it?
Having problems with the Sleep, Restart, and Shut Down functions after struggling trying to get a defective external disk drive enclosure to work. When I use any of the above functions the computer shuts down. I cannot wake by moving or left clicking the mouse as before. The computer shuts down and will not come on with the front panel power button. Ditto for Restart. I have to pull the power cord for about a minute before reconnecting. Then I press the power button and the computer commences to boot and windows initializes very slowlyI restored the computer to an earlier time before using the defective external drive enclosure, but I still have the same powerup/boot symptoms. stonooka has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some several months now I have been happily using the "Pin to Explorer" function as a means of quickly accessing several folders, last night Windows installed a critical update of some sort and on rebooting this morning, right clicking the explorer folder on the task bar showed all my pinned folders gone, I dragged a folder to the task bar and got the "Pin to Windows Explorer" option which I selected, but to no avail, nothing is pinned any longer. I do have "store recently opened programs" checked as well as the second option "store and display recently opened... etc"this seems not to have any effect.I tried a system restore prior to the update, no change.how to restore this function?

Certain things I do on my computer take a very long time, such as printing. This all started about a week or so ago. Each step of the printing process (choosing a printer, changing print settings, sending the print job) now take 5-10 minutes when they used to be nearly instantaneous.
I've noticed slowness for some other functions as well (of course, I can't remember specifics at the moment) but it is most pronounced when printing (from any program). It *might* have started happening after either the Windows update or Adobe update that came out recently. At one point, I was giving a presentation and my computer completely froze for all local functions except switching tabs. The Task Manager showed nothing unusual and one of the tabs had Citrix loaded and I was able to use that just fine.I have a Dell Latitude E6410 running Windows 7. At the above linked thread I ran several scans that all came back negative for viruses or malware, so there must be some setting out of whack or another conflict.
I just bought this keyboard (Colours IT Multimedia Office Pro Wired Keyboard with Speakers & Mic Built In PS/2 - KB-8108 - Scan.co.uk) because it's a brilliant price and has many useful buttons as i'm starting to use skype more. The problem is that some of the skype keys do not work and some do the same as others. I love the built in mic and although the speakers are a nice addition I use external ones. I pressumed that becuse it functions on XP it should also do so on Windows 7.I cannot find any website supporting this keyboard for up to date drivers and the driver disc only supports up to XP.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using a Windows 7 64-bit laptop. I have been facing this problem for quite some time now, but did not bother to solve it. When I click on some of my programs and stuff, they do not start up, but instead the black command box pops up briefly and disappears, and nothing else happens. This has occurred on several programs only, though I forgot most of them, one of them is CCleaner.exe . I managed to solve that by troubleshooting compatibility, and running it on Windows' recommended settings. Alot more of the other programs which failed to start up before, e.g. Windows Live Messenger, started up after I troubleshooted compatibility. However, recently I decided to defragment my hard drive (after a long time of not doing so), and after I clicked on the "Analyze Disk" button, or the "Defragment disk" option, the black box appears briefly, and disappears, and nothing happens again.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Vista generation WMC remote I use with my new Xbox extender and all the functions work properly except for the TV on/off & volume. I know have to use the TV remote to do these functions, the WMC control for WMC functions, and the Xbox console for Xbox on/off. Is there a way I can get this down to just one or two? From what I read, it looks like the Xbox 360 universal remote does these functions so I'm wondering why this one wouldn't...I don't need to control the Xbox functions other than turning it on.

Before, my old computer which ran windows XP would go sleep mode over a prolonged period of time but would still download whatever files im downloading. However I recently just got a new computer with windows 7, and every time I go to bed with something I download it seems to stall all computer functions. Whenever I'm Idle for about 30+minutes is when this happens. View 2 Replies View RelatedI usually dont beg, however, I have lost all keyboard and mouse funcitons in my computer and this happened directly after I installed my new Keyboard by Kensington PilotBoard. I have other 2.4Ghz wireless by Logitech as well as ps/2 and usb wired keyboards and mice by microsoft and logitech. It all was ok, the kensington mouse was not smooth so getting the buttons or whatever was recommended and went to the website for the 'most up to data' software. that was the end. after a reboot i have been lost. The computer boots up and actually functions in its serverlike capacity with its internet cable and for the center of the little home network. i just can not make the cursor arrow move. no keyboard input, I tried safe mode, nothing. I tried Safe Mode with Command Prompt, cant write a command even if i knew what to put in there. NO Safe Mode operation of usb, wired mouse or keyboard. I went to cmos and made all changes to basics , no good. but the only time the keyboard will work is directly in the bios . But not any Bios change I made had any impact on the lost functions.Since I built it myself, I have a back up or restore disc but can not access that. i can not roll anything back , cant get to device manager. or at least I havent been able to make it do anything but a boot. i do the reset to give me the options of another start in safe mode but it still has no key or mouse functions .

View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery so often I get this problem where my keyboard/mouse functions change.
-With the keyboard it's usually a SHIFT lock (not CAPS lock), that is every button that I hit expresses a character or function like as if I was holding down SHIFT.
-With the mouse there are several problems. Left clicking "sticks", so any field where you can select text or draw a selection box will have that happen when I move the mouse around after clicking somewhere in the field. Left clicking any link or bookmark causes it to open in a new page to be loaded. The scroll wheel function changes to forward and back, rather than scrolling up and down. The right mouse button does it's own tricks, but I can't remember it exactly.
This has happened with two different sets of keyboards/mice operating with different drivers. The only solution is to restart, unplugging doesn't solve the trick. I cannot recall exactly what I may have installed around the time the problem showed up unfortunately.
I have Office 2007 on Windows 7.When I am working on a sheet (or document) the ribbon can become inaccessible, nothing works when I click it (like a 'Not Responding' screen). If, I switch to another open sheet/doc and then switch back the ribbon is accessible again!I have uninstalled/reinstalled Office plus SP's twice but the problem persists, and, as is usually the case, this does not happen all the time but enough times for it to be really annoying!
View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday (11/02/12) Windows notified that there were a couple of critical updates available for installation. Always keen to keep my spec up-to-date I proceeded to install them. I'm afraid I don't know the details of the updates. As I did a System Restore (see below) they have been removed from the list of Installed Updates. After automatic installing and re-starting the first thing I noticed was that the screen resolution had been changed. Fixed that through control panel. More importantly I discovered that the following had occurred: I could not get any sound. Could not get streaming video. Flash crashed every time Certain links within Control Panel would not function Investigating (1) above, Device Manager reported that the hardware was functioning correctly. In attempting to resolve this via Control Panel/Appearance & Personalization/Personalization I noticed that the Sounds link indicated No sounds and I could not click through from the link (see below) to change anything (this happens with a few other Control Panel options).
I can find no way of reaching the sound properties. All links are non-functioning.For (2) I uninstalled Flash Player using the Flash uninstaller, cleared out the registry of any remaining entries for it (yes there were still a couple) and re-installed it (v11.1.102.55) and re-started PC. On first re-install I had no success but tried same process again and did get it to stream video (no sound). However when I started PC today we are back to the same problem.I have also cleaned registry with no improvement.Having drawn a blank with these two problems I then did a system restore to the point where the Windows updates occurred. This has not changed anything so I am really stuck as to know what if anything I can do. The system and applications generally are working fine. Networking and Internet connection is fine. As the machine came pre-loaded with Win 7 I do not have a Windows Disk.
I have a Acer laptop, Aspire 5742-7342. Can anyone give me a listing of what each function key do?
