I have a Dell Studio 1558 with Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit. For some unknown reason my cut and paste functions are not working consistently.Control C and Control V are working sporadically and I'm having the same problem with right clicking and choosing the copy and paste functions. If I click "cut" the text disappears but I can't paste it anywhere.I've searched online for a solution and completed various diagnostics and can't figure this out. What can I do to restore these functions? Periodically, for reasons I cannot figure out and for which I have found no solution, my copy/paste ceases to function. Nothing I do seems to fix it, deleting cache, etc. So eventually, out of frustration I give up but it interrupts my productivity of course. Some time later in the future I find it is working again but i do not know how/why it starts or stops and it is most vexing and inconvenient.
It seems to happen periodically whether I am using my Windows 7 or my Mac Snow Leopard? I right click, select copy right click again select paste and ZIP, NADA? I will be forever grateful or at least for a very long time!
I have a new system with Win7 Pro. 64 Bit Sp1.I've found out that sometimes Win7 has problems with cut & Paste. At first I thought it was a problem with win7 security system but it doesn't seem to be the case as I don't get any message. When I want to move a file from one location to another, I cut and then go to the destination, click paste and nothing happens. No error message, just nothing. I try again but with the same result result. It seems that others have a similar problem, some have suggested that by Killing RDPCLIP.EXE and restarting it fixes the problem. But I don't have this .EXE in my task list, and some other people suggested some other way. This problem does not happen all the time but considering that my PC is only 3 days old and I have experienced this problem 3 times already, it seems unacceptable. This is not some small, obscure, rarely used function, this is Cut & Paste, who doesn't use it almost everyday?
2 days ago I noticed that my copy and paste functions stopped working! I am using win 7. I have tried using the keyboard shortcuts crtl+c and crtl+v, right click copy and paste which doesn't work.text copy and paste is working .i cant copy word document or any other files.
It happens on all browsers on every computer in the house. I am running NIS 2012 and can't find if/where that is causing the problem. It maybe my ISP but how would I know?
I double click to open one single folder and all folder icons on my desktop highlight. I consistently get dialogue boxes that appear and will not go away until I use Ccleaner. My computer guy says no cleaners as it deletes some important reg files. But this is the only way these things will go away. whats up.
Well I've been have frozen screens for awhile now and finally realized that it freezes consistently after shutting it down using hibernate. Meaning when I turn on the computer, a few seconds, sometimes minutes later it freezes if I had used hibernate to shut it down earlier. The screen becomes dead and the cursor cannot move.... the only way to reboot it is to force shut down (hold the on button for a few seconds).
I have this weird problem where my computer will sometimes show Asian characters (Korean, Japanese, Chinese, etc.) and sometimes it'll show them as blocks. It's really annoying because I can't see what the song names are in iTunes and some of my folders in Chinese are just blocks. I've already tried installing the language packs but that didn't help. I've also asked this on Microsoft's forum but they didn't help much either. I can see the fonts clearly on webpages and I can type in Chinese perfectly but I can't see the characters in places like folder names, file names, etc. I currently run Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
It plays about the first 5 minutes of a video pretty well, but then it stutters...Stops n goes... Windows 7, wmp 11 i think, on the gateway n72 laptop.Upgrade to wmp n/a... May it be that i need a service pack to windows 7?
I have been having a serious issue with my PC. The PC will boot up without incident, but if I try to access explorer or the OS, it will slow to a crawl and eventually freeze. I have encountered this with firefox, the start menu, and when trying to access the task manager. The problem is consistent, occuring everytime I start the machine. Usually within the first few minutes of a boot-up, Windows has frozen and I must force a hard reset.
The only thing I can think of which may be the cause is a power outage which occured in the night. When I woke up, the PC was off and the problem began as soon as I booted up. The PC was plugged into a power strip which was not tripped by the outage.
I can boot up in Safe Mode, which delays the onset of the crash, but doesn't stop it. I have tried using system restore by accessing the menu during start-up (F8) but the system restore always fails at the very end. Looking at the inside of the PC, there doesn't seem to be any visible damage (that I can detect) and at no points does anything seem to be giving off any excess heat.
When I press CTRL+ALT+DEL in an attempt to access the task manager, the screen goes black and the cursor turns to a wheel. After several minutes, the wheel will stop and a prompt will appear stating "The logon process was unable to display security and logon options when CTRL+ALT+DELETE was pressed. If the operating system does not respond, press ESC or restart the computer by using the power switch."
So what i want to do is change my key functions on my keyboard (example: rather than ctrl-c i want to use command-c "aka windows-c")but i don't want to change the command key to be ctrl but make it so windows recognizes it as copy when i push command-c also want to change other stuff like ctrl-alt-del and paste and closing windows
the reason i don't want to change command to ctrl is if im in an application that i need to control i want to be able to hit the actual ctrl key.
i basically want to make my windows feel a little more like macintosh not in the way of looks but function of keys. hope it makes sense and hope someone knows how to do it.
please does any one know how to add spell check function to right click. When filling out online job application for example on XP I had spell check option on right click but do not on windows 7.
Having problems with the Sleep, Restart, and Shut Down functions after struggling trying to get a defective external disk drive enclosure to work. When I use any of the above functions the computer shuts down. I cannot wake by moving or left clicking the mouse as before. The computer shuts down and will not come on with the front panel power button. Ditto for Restart. I have to pull the power cord for about a minute before reconnecting. Then I press the power button and the computer commences to boot and windows initializes very slowlyI restored the computer to an earlier time before using the defective external drive enclosure, but I still have the same powerup/boot symptoms. stonooka has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
For some several months now I have been happily using the "Pin to Explorer" function as a means of quickly accessing several folders, last night Windows installed a critical update of some sort and on rebooting this morning, right clicking the explorer folder on the task bar showed all my pinned folders gone, I dragged a folder to the task bar and got the "Pin to Windows Explorer" option which I selected, but to no avail, nothing is pinned any longer. I do have "store recently opened programs" checked as well as the second option "store and display recently opened... etc"this seems not to have any effect.I tried a system restore prior to the update, no change.how to restore this function?
Certain things I do on my computer take a very long time, such as printing. This all started about a week or so ago. Each step of the printing process (choosing a printer, changing print settings, sending the print job) now take 5-10 minutes when they used to be nearly instantaneous.
I've noticed slowness for some other functions as well (of course, I can't remember specifics at the moment) but it is most pronounced when printing (from any program). It *might* have started happening after either the Windows update or Adobe update that came out recently. At one point, I was giving a presentation and my computer completely froze for all local functions except switching tabs. The Task Manager showed nothing unusual and one of the tabs had Citrix loaded and I was able to use that just fine.I have a Dell Latitude E6410 running Windows 7. At the above linked thread I ran several scans that all came back negative for viruses or malware, so there must be some setting out of whack or another conflict.
I just bought this keyboard (Colours IT Multimedia Office Pro Wired Keyboard with Speakers & Mic Built In PS/2 - KB-8108 - Scan.co.uk) because it's a brilliant price and has many useful buttons as i'm starting to use skype more. The problem is that some of the skype keys do not work and some do the same as others. I love the built in mic and although the speakers are a nice addition I use external ones. I pressumed that becuse it functions on XP it should also do so on Windows 7.I cannot find any website supporting this keyboard for up to date drivers and the driver disc only supports up to XP.
I am using a Windows 7 64-bit laptop. I have been facing this problem for quite some time now, but did not bother to solve it. When I click on some of my programs and stuff, they do not start up, but instead the black command box pops up briefly and disappears, and nothing else happens. This has occurred on several programs only, though I forgot most of them, one of them is CCleaner.exe . I managed to solve that by troubleshooting compatibility, and running it on Windows' recommended settings. Alot more of the other programs which failed to start up before, e.g. Windows Live Messenger, started up after I troubleshooted compatibility. However, recently I decided to defragment my hard drive (after a long time of not doing so), and after I clicked on the "Analyze Disk" button, or the "Defragment disk" option, the black box appears briefly, and disappears, and nothing happens again.
I have an Elantech driver for my touchpad that supports multitouch. However, the functions of the gestures are not customizable. I was wondering if there is a way to customize the functions of certain gestures. For example, binding a macro like Alt+1 to 4 finger swipe left etc. That way I can bind some function to Alt+1 and execute it with 4 finger swipe.
I have a Vista generation WMC remote I use with my new Xbox extender and all the functions work properly except for the TV on/off & volume. I know have to use the TV remote to do these functions, the WMC control for WMC functions, and the Xbox console for Xbox on/off. Is there a way I can get this down to just one or two? From what I read, it looks like the Xbox 360 universal remote does these functions so I'm wondering why this one wouldn't...I don't need to control the Xbox functions other than turning it on.
All USB ports on my computer turn off upon the launching of Windaows 7. I have functionality in the DOS mode, however. My KB and mouse are USB, so when windows launches I lose my interface to teh computer.
So I generally download games/movies/etc at night when I sleep. Before, my old computer which ran windows XP would go sleep mode over a prolonged period of time but would still download whatever files im downloading. However I recently just got a new computer with windows 7, and every time I go to bed with something I download it seems to stall all computer functions. Whenever I'm Idle for about 30+minutes is when this happens. My monitor goes into power save mode, but my computers still on.Its as if it also shuts off my internet connection while I sleep. as downloads freeze an hour into my sleep. All online games im logged into for my bots to trade will time out in the middle of the night etc.
I usually dont beg, however, I have lost all keyboard and mouse funcitons in my computer and this happened directly after I installed my new Keyboard by Kensington PilotBoard. I have other 2.4Ghz wireless by Logitech as well as ps/2 and usb wired keyboards and mice by microsoft and logitech. It all was ok, the kensington mouse was not smooth so getting the buttons or whatever was recommended and went to the website for the 'most up to data' software. that was the end. after a reboot i have been lost. The computer boots up and actually functions in its serverlike capacity with its internet cable and for the center of the little home network. i just can not make the cursor arrow move. no keyboard input, I tried safe mode, nothing. I tried Safe Mode with Command Prompt, cant write a command even if i knew what to put in there. NO Safe Mode operation of usb, wired mouse or keyboard. I went to cmos and made all changes to basics , no good. but the only time the keyboard will work is directly in the bios . But not any Bios change I made had any impact on the lost functions.Since I built it myself, I have a back up or restore disc but can not access that. i can not roll anything back , cant get to device manager. or at least I havent been able to make it do anything but a boot. i do the reset to give me the options of another start in safe mode but it still has no key or mouse functions .
Last night I was using my samsung series 7 laptop but it was freezing up frequently so I after reading around some forums I decided I needed to format my HHD to solve my problems. After using the cd "system recovery media" I turned on my laptop to find only the trash bin in the desktop. I cant connect to wireless internet and I cant configure cable internet altough the icon still appears. Also my usb drives dont work either.
