View 5 RepliesI double click to open one single folder and all folder icons on my desktop highlight. I consistently get dialogue boxes that appear and will not go away until I use Ccleaner. My computer guy says no cleaners as it deletes some important reg files. But this is the only way these things will go away. whats up.

For some unknown reason my cut and paste functions are not working consistently.Control C and Control V are working sporadically and I'm having the same problem with right clicking and choosing the copy and paste functions. If I click "cut" the text disappears but I can't paste it anywhere.I've searched online for a solution and completed various diagnostics and can't figure this out. What can I do to restore these functions? Meaning when I turn on the computer, a few seconds, sometimes minutes later it freezes if I had used hibernate to shut it down earlier. The screen becomes dead and the cursor cannot move.... the only way to reboot it is to force shut down (hold the on button for a few seconds).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have this weird problem where my computer will sometimes show Asian characters (Korean, Japanese, Chinese, etc.) and sometimes it'll show them as blocks. It's really annoying because I can't see what the song names are in iTunes and some of my folders in Chinese are just blocks. I've already tried installing the language packs but that didn't help. I've also asked this on Microsoft's forum but they didn't help much either. I can see the fonts clearly on webpages and I can type in Chinese perfectly but I can't see the characters in places like folder names, file names, etc. I currently run Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been having a serious issue with my PC. The PC will boot up without incident, but if I try to access explorer or the OS, it will slow to a crawl and eventually freeze. I have encountered this with firefox, the start menu, and when trying to access the task manager. The problem is consistent, occuring everytime I start the machine. Usually within the first few minutes of a boot-up, Windows has frozen and I must force a hard reset.
The only thing I can think of which may be the cause is a power outage which occured in the night. When I woke up, the PC was off and the problem began as soon as I booted up. The PC was plugged into a power strip which was not tripped by the outage.
I can boot up in Safe Mode, which delays the onset of the crash, but doesn't stop it. I have tried using system restore by accessing the menu during start-up (F8) but the system restore always fails at the very end. Looking at the inside of the PC, there doesn't seem to be any visible damage (that I can detect) and at no points does anything seem to be giving off any excess heat.
When I press CTRL+ALT+DEL in an attempt to access the task manager, the screen goes black and the cursor turns to a wheel. After several minutes, the wheel will stop and a prompt will appear stating "The logon process was unable to display security and logon options when CTRL+ALT+DELETE was pressed. If the operating system does not respond, press ESC or restart the computer by using the power switch."
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium with the latest updates. I have a strange problem.I can go to some websites, but not others. For example, I can load Find a Local Business,Ratings, Reviews, Deals | Angie's List, but not https://my.angieslist.com/angieslist/login.aspx.I have switched from automatic DNS lookup to fixed DNS, but that makes no difference.the same problem is experienced with Firefox, Opera, and IE. I called Angies List and they do not have any issues ie, they were able to log into my account.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my internet connection to 30 Mbps. After running more than 50 speedtests on my computer running windows 7, I came to the conclusion that there was something wrong because I was never exceeding 17 Mbps on speedtest.net! I called my ISP and they told me that if they send a tech he will plug a laptop directly to the modem and if he gets 30 Mbps I would have to pay.. while he kept talking I used my Iphone (which is connected to the 30 Mbps connection through my wireless router) and surprisingly got speeds between 21 Mbps and 23 Mbps ! I then realised my modem or router wasn't the problem.
I tried uninstalling AVG antivirus (saw that on some forums), didn't work. I tried to plug my ethernet wire directly in my computer instead of passing through my router, didn't work. I tried the Enable QoS tweak and set it to 0% instead of 20%, didn't work. I'm using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit - Intel Core 2 Duo 3ghz proc - 8 gb 667mhz DDR3 memory - Onboard 100 mbps network adapter - Geforce GTX 560 (I know it's a waste with the Proc I have but i'll upgrade PC soon). BTW, I upgraded my internet connection from 8 Mbps to 30 Mbps. the 8 Mbps was maxed out on any speedtests or any popular torrents. After I upgraded I'm getting max 17 Mbps... it seems to cap there for an unknown reason !
I am receiving all emails, and sometimes, even able to send them without the error message:Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. [code] What is most confusing to me (other than the fact that I can sometimes reply to emails and send new ones) is the fact that sometimes when I send an email and receive this message, it actually does send the email.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running win 7 64. When I turn the comp on it keeps restarting right whe it's at the "welcome"'screen and it just keeps booting.
Im able to boot in safe mode but not with networking- I get a blue screen if I try. I have Malwarebytes installed, ran a full scan in safe mode with no error results. I downloaded two other programs that people suggested: hijackthis and adaware, on my friends comp and saved them to an external drive bit win wouldn't let me install them.
I have tried searching online for solutions but to no avail. My laptop is just under 12 months old and other than the battery dying already I have never really had any problems until last week. Its a Dell Inspiron 1564, Intel I3 running windows 7 home premium. After my computer has been woken from sleep mode any window I open in full size no longer sits flush with the top of the monitor (its about a cm below top of screen), but my desktop background is still normal and reaching the top of the monitor and I can put my cursor up there. I have updated my video and BIOS drivers from the Dell website yesterday but that doesnt seem to have done anything. If I restart my computer it goes back to normal again until the next time it sleeps but I would really rather not have to turn my computer on and off 15 times a day?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have had Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) installed on my Gateway NV53 laptop. I must note that my laptop dual boots Windows and Ubuntu 10.04 with GRUB 2 as my default bootloader (which employs a chainloader to boot Windows 7). 4 weeks ago, I began experiencing problems with my Windows partition. Everytime I booted up, the bootloader would show the Windows 7 logo, and then the computer would restart without ever reaching the login screen. At first, I thought the issue was with the Windows 7 bootloader. So, I used the Windows 7 Repair Disk (for 64 bit machines) and from the command line, rebuilt the BCD from scratch. I even made Windows 7 the default bootloader (instead of GRUB, because I suspected maybe GRUB was being buggy), and still I experienced the same problems. I concluded that the problem could not be the bootloader seeing that I rebuilt a new one from scratch and the problem persisted. I then proceeded to remove the most recent hotfix (I had read somewhere that lately users have been experiencing issues with hotfixes offered by Microsoft) using the Windows 7 Emergency Recovery Disk (ERD), and that did not fix the problem either. I also scanned my partition for viruses and none were found.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a Dell Vostro 1520 and im running Windows 7 with a 32bit. It is only 2 years only. It started about a month ago. I was on my laptop viewing and deleting some unwanted photos i had. A few minutes later i realized that i deleted a photo that i wanted. So i went to the recycling bin and restored that photo. When i went back to my photos and went into the album, it said something like i do no have permission to access this folder. Please press continue to get full permission. I clicked continue and i got the access i should have. Now i tried many more random folders and the same thing happened. Also when i came out of the folders, the folders had a big pad lock sign on the front of it. After that i shut down the laptop and went to turn it back on. The laptop will power on like normal. I can press f12 for the boot options. which i have already tried many times. I also tried it in safe mode and what-not, but still nothing. I can hear the fan and stuff spinning up like normal. I have also put and CD into the CD ROM and that spins up fine. So after the Dell logo on the screen, it goes black and stays that way with the cursor. You can move the cursor around no problem. I should also add that the battery light is and has been flashing for a good wile. Its flashing orange and blue. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the battery. Because my laptop will not charge with the AC adapter in it for many months now. It will only stay powered on with the AC adapter plugged in. One more thing. The LED lights over the buttons. None of the are flashing, besides one, on the far left. And i cant find out anywhere what this LED light stands for.
