Cannot Access The Ribbon Functions In Excel 2007?
Oct 6, 2011
I have Office 2007 on Windows 7.When I am working on a sheet (or document) the ribbon can become inaccessible, nothing works when I click it (like a 'Not Responding' screen).If, I switch to another open sheet/doc and then switch back the ribbon is accessible again!I have uninstalled/reinstalled Office plus SP's twice but the problem persists, and, as is usually the case, this does not happen all the time but enough times for it to be really annoying!

In XP, and previous IE's we'd click on a link to an excel file and it would pop up within IE, so we could quickly view it. I would like this in IE9, I have not had luck searching for a solution to this in Windows 7/IE9

I bought a pc with Windows 7 that has worked fine with Word (office 2007). However, when I save a file with Excel 2007 and then call it up, the ribbon no longer works (I click on the various commands and ribbons don't pop up). Likewise, I cannot make cell entries or try operations like sorting. However, the program has not frozen since I can click on the various worksheets on the bottom. Is this an Excel or Windows problem and what is the solution.

I've created a workbook with about 15 worksheets and prior to sending to the customer I want to lock the cells so that they can't be changed without a password. So, I first select the cells I don't want to be altered and lock them. Then I go to "protect worksheet" and after checking the box that allows people to select cells in the locked section (selection of sells in unlocked section checks automatically) I enter a password twice and the worksheet is theoretically locked.
I can still change cells in the locked area. It didn't work on any of my worksheets. So I went back and unprotected the sheets and then selected and locked the cells TWICE, after which I protected the worksheets again. This time some, but not all, of the worksheets had locked the cells protecting them from editing. I then tried to go thru the same rigmarole but locking the cells three or four times before protecting the sheets for the sheets that were still unlocked, but that only worked sporadically as well. Sometimes I had to dis-allow selection, lock the cells in the sheet, unprotect it, lock the cells again twice, and then check the select box and protect the sheet AGAIN. That FINALLY worked.

I recently upgraded from 32-bit Windows Vista to 64-bit Windows 7 (did a clean OEM install). Now, my Microsoft Excel 2007 runs at a snails pace. Actually, I would be happy if it ran at a snails pace since it currently is running slower than that! It's almost to the point of being unusable. Opening an Excel document that took mere seconds with my 32-bit Vista now takes minutes with 64-bit Windows 7. Saving an Excel document in Vista took seconds and now easily takes 2-3 minutes with the new OS. Inserting a pivot table when my OS was 32-bit Vista was a snap, but now trying to do it working under 64-bit Windows 7 I can walk away and go eat dinner and come back and it still won't be done inserting the table.
Is there some known compatibility problem between MS Office/Excel 2007 and 64-bit Windows 7 OS? Ive searched Google but can't find anything related to the problem I am having.
I've tried restarting the PC. I reinstalled Office. I've tried launching Excel in compatibility mode for XP and Vista. All to no avail.
System Specs:
CPU = Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz
Mobo = nVidia 650i Core 2 Quad (EVGA nForce 650i Ultra)
RAM = 4 gigs DDR2 Corsair at 1066 MHz dual channel
HD = Western Digital Raptor 10k RPM 16 MB cache SATA Extreme Speed
OS = 64-bit Windows 7 SP 1
MS Office = 2007 version with SP 1 (or 2, can't recall exactly).

I recently upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate and Win Live Mail, and this is where the problem lays. How can I get back the File:Edit:View:Tools etc. back to the top of the page? As part of the same problem, I also want to have access to the text facilities of, Bold:Underlined:Italics:Bold Underline etc., functions. I managed to find the latter when I click "New"(mail) and then the "Message" tab, but when the drop down tool bar appears all the functions that appear on the right side of this panel are grayed out and access is denied.

According to what I've read, Access 2010 uses the same database format as Access 2007. So this should mean I can open and run a 2007 database (with a lot of VBA code) in Access 2010 with no trouble, yes?So why do I have the feeling that something is not going to work? Is it because I have been through to many Access upgrades?

Disassembled a throwaway Compaq CQ60 to repaste the heat sink. The ribbon clamps which pivot down to clamp the keyboard and touchpad ribbon cables into their place are flimsy plastic the size and heft of a fingernail clipping. One popped off and has no way to pop back on that I can see, after trying for an hour. As a result the touchpad won't work.
I don't see how to replace it because it's embedded in mobo. The part doesn't look broken but just won't reattach.
Another surprise is that the HD is loose in its compartment, missing the bracket which secures it into place so it won't slide out of contacts. Owner thinks the Geek Squat replaced it that way.

She has recently had to upgrade to Windows 7 and as a result she now has Word 2010 instead of 2000, or maybe it was 2003.
The most annoying feature of Word 2010 is the so-called "Ribbon". It shows every font installed in Word and we don't want to see any of them (my blind colleague cannot see them anyway) - what is more, it takes up a lot of space. Is there a way of removing all those fonts from the Ribbon?

I am writing an Access Database which will hold a lot of information about software, books and whatever else I am going to store in there. (Yes, Data entry will take a long time, but not a problem).I have made a query which will search the Books database for Author, and I was wondering how I can make it a little less accurate. So far, It searches for the author using Exact Matching from the input box in the query Code: [Search for author by the name of:] for example, when I want to search for Phillip Pullman, the way that Calibre added the author names, I have to type (Exactly, letter for letter) "Pullman, Philip". Is it possible to make it less accurate so It will bring back results when I search for "Philip" or "pullman" or "philip pullman"?

So what i want to do is change my key functions on my keyboard (example: rather than ctrl-c i want to use command-c "aka windows-c")but i don't want to change the command key to be ctrl but make it so windows recognizes it as copy when i push command-c also want to change other stuff like ctrl-alt-del and paste and closing windows
the reason i don't want to change command to ctrl is if im in an application that i need to control i want to be able to hit the actual ctrl key.
i basically want to make my windows feel a little more like macintosh not in the way of looks but function of keys. hope it makes sense and hope someone knows how to do it.

Having problems with the Sleep, Restart, and Shut Down functions after struggling trying to get a defective external disk drive enclosure to work.When I use any of the above functions the computer shuts down. I cannot wake by moving or left clicking the mouse as before. The computer shuts down and will not come on with the front panel power button. Ditto for Restart. I have to pull the power cord for about a minute before reconnecting. Then I press the power button and the computer commences to boot and windows initializes very slowlyI restored the computer to an earlier time before using the defective external drive enclosure, but I still have the same powerup/boot symptoms. stonooka has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.

For some several months now I have been happily using the "Pin to Explorer" function as a means of quickly accessing several folders, last night Windows installed a critical update of some sort and on rebooting this morning, right clicking the explorer folder on the task bar showed all my pinned folders gone, I dragged a folder to the task bar and got the "Pin to Windows Explorer" option which I selected, but to no avail, nothing is pinned any longer. I do have "store recently opened programs" checked as well as the second option "store and display recently opened... etc"this seems not to have any effect.I tried a system restore prior to the update, no change.how to restore this function?

Continuing post as started here: http:(url)...
Certain things I do on my computer take a very long time, such as printing. This all started about a week or so ago. Each step of the printing process (choosing a printer, changing print settings, sending the print job) now take 5-10 minutes when they used to be nearly instantaneous.
I've noticed slowness for some other functions as well (of course, I can't remember specifics at the moment) but it is most pronounced when printing (from any program). It *might* have started happening after either the Windows update or Adobe update that came out recently. At one point, I was giving a presentation and my computer completely froze for all local functions except switching tabs. The Task Manager showed nothing unusual and one of the tabs had Citrix loaded and I was able to use that just fine.I have a Dell Latitude E6410 running Windows 7. At the above linked thread I ran several scans that all came back negative for viruses or malware, so there must be some setting out of whack or another conflict.

I just bought this keyboard (Colours IT Multimedia Office Pro Wired Keyboard with Speakers & Mic Built In PS/2 - KB-8108 - Scan.co.uk) because it's a brilliant price and has many useful buttons as i'm starting to use skype more.The problem is that some of the skype keys do not work and some do the same as others. I love the built in mic and although the speakers are a nice addition I use external ones. I pressumed that becuse it functions on XP it should also do so on Windows 7.I cannot find any website supporting this keyboard for up to date drivers and the driver disc only supports up to XP.

I am using a Windows 7 64-bit laptop. I have been facing this problem for quite some time now, but did not bother to solve it. When I click on some of my programs and stuff, they do not start up, but instead the black command box pops up briefly and disappears, and nothing else happens. This has occurred on several programs only, though I forgot most of them, one of them is CCleaner.exe . I managed to solve that by troubleshooting compatibility, and running it on Windows' recommended settings. Alot more of the other programs which failed to start up before, e.g. Windows Live Messenger, started up after I troubleshooted compatibility. However, recently I decided to defragment my hard drive (after a long time of not doing so), and after I clicked on the "Analyze Disk" button, or the "Defragment disk" option, the black box appears briefly, and disappears, and nothing happens again.
