Multiple Theme Packs
Sep 2, 2009I have just downloaded lots of theme packs for Windows 7 and was wondering if there was a quicker way to install them apart from double clicking each one?

View 4 RepliesFor the past few days, if not a week now, I've noticed that when I switch to Basic theme for RAM intesive programs like Adobe After Effects, Windows is quite slow, almost running as though my laptop is 1GB not 2GB RAM.Though when I switch to Aero theme, Windows is only slightly slower with Adobe After Effects running. My laptop is Compaq Presario CQ56, 2GB shared graphics and I can't explain why the Basic theme is running slow whereas Aero is responding faster, so much so, programs tend to stop responding more frequently on Basic. I have run MSE, MBAM and SAS (MSE realtime, others are standalone mode) and found no viruses and I update them all either daily or every two days. I only have Realtek Audio and MSE on Startup so I can't figure out why this happening!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI deleted these before knowing they are necessary for removal of a service pack. Would system restore or an Aronis image of the system be better to recover these?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got Windows Ultimate and decided to let it install language packs I don't need (I didnt actually know they'd take a huge amount of space). Part way through the installation I cancel one of the language packs and the whole update finishes (This was a fresh install). Now in the history it says some of the language packs installed successfully but in "control panel>Change Display Language" there is only English.I'm quite sure a few language packs did install because the SSD free space was shrinking after every install.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAnybody know if during the RC other language packs will be available.
If not could I "Poodlefake" or Backport the language packs from the VISTA system.
I'd like to try the Icelandic pack so some of our "Normal" i.e non technical users back home can check / try Windows 7.
(Of course they all speak excellent English -- like most Scandanavian countries English is a mandatory language in Schools here and even as adults around 90% here speak it fluently but it would be nice to test Windows 7 in a "Working environment" away from the IT testing areas to see how it performs in day to day work. (Maybe not 100% mission critical stuff but for reasonably robust office situations).
I have seen alot about no support for mkv in wmp and wmc on these and other Windows 7 threads/boards. I've seen solutions ranging from adding a complicated divx7(not a free codec) tool with necessary support, adding various codec packs, some crazy scripts and regedits with powershell, cmd etc. that can be disastrous with the slightest mistake.
First, if you want to find out the hard way that codec packs can be dangerous, install one. Some are probably better than others, maybe some even won't screw up your system?
But a prominent codec pack-(touted on these boards)- I tried-back when I was a newbie at multi-media playback-caused major system problems. At first it worked great! Then.......Wierd random icons started showing up for un-related programs, web pages, etc., various formats stopped working, program defaults changed by themselves-had to do a clean disk wipe and os install to correct it! Most claim to be minimalist but the point is, they can essentially take-over a system and cause major instability, freezes, etc. Maybe they work for you? Not judging, just suggesting.
I've no idea what's causing this. I tried installing the language packs last night and woke up the next morning to the error codes mentioned above.

I am trying to get my wife's new computer up and running without any BSOD or program failures. Note that the system was not initially set up to capture the dmp files so all the earliest ones are missing. I presented the initial problems to the original seller who recommended sticking with MSE and uninstalling Norton 360 and I did that. Another forum suggested that Virtual Memory was the problem and I disabled and restored VM. Still having multiple crashes and I am hoping that I can get real help here. I do note that all the crashes have ntoskrnl.exe in the driver stack although sometimes alone and sometimes with other drivers.[CODE]
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have three medical clinics and the front desk staff float from clinic to clinic depending on their schedule. I only started here a few months ago and I am working on upgrading their Dell xp systems to Windows 7 systems. The problem begins to crop up when say a user named Sally will come in and sit down at this system for the first time.. Well, she needs to login, click on outlook icon, let it find her exchange PST and copy settings to her user profile, then she launches the application for the scanner that she uses to scan in ID's and insurance cards for every patient coming in.. The scanner is set to default settings and needs to be tweaked on color depth and double sided, etc.. Then after that, she needs to launch her Medical EMR application.. and then choose various options in the citrix client, ..TL;DR - Each user needs to spend 20 minutes resetting the defaults at this updated system.
Well this is fine except, I am planning on updating 2 front desk systems at each clinic, the user Sally will need to do all these things EACH time she finds herself sitting down at a system I just swapped out the previous evening. My thought is this, put a single system down in one clinic and let it sit a week giving most of the float users a chance to work on it for a day, setting all of their preferences etc.Once I get a bunch of them with user profiles on the local drive, grab an image of that drive and just deploy that to each system I roll out..Couple issues I am running into:First would be that I would have to register each Windows 7 copy with a new serial, which I have The next issue is, we have a mis-mash of Dell optiplex systems. 330's - 380's even a couple 320's..
I have been getting a fairly random blue screens and I cannot pin point it myself. I know a bit about diagnosing and repairing issues but this one is just a pain in my butt. I am uploading the dump files and I hope someone can give me a hand I am running a sfc scan right now to test for any problems too. Also got this off the TSG SysInfo Program.

I have attached a second monitor to my laptop which runs Windows 7, however, I need to set different resolutions for different monitors, because the display does not fit to fill the screen on both monitors.
It is also noted that the display is replicated, and I would like to have the effect of having different desktops e.g. being able to use different applications such as debugging code on one monitor on an IDE such as Visual Studio, and, viewing the browser on the other monitor.
Currently it does not seem possible since the behavior seems to be that the same resolution is replicated on both monitors.
I use WhoCrashed to analyze these errors but I dont know how to solve. Maybe my hardware cause these.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @ 2.40 Ghz
Ram: 2GB Corsair
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
VGA: ASUS 8600 GTS
Mainboard: ASUS Striker Extreme
I'm having a bit of trouble trying to get two monitors, a small 1024x768 LCD, and a 46" 1920x1080 TV, to display the same wallpaper at different resolutions. My graphics card is older, a Nvidia Quadro FX 1700, but it is perfectly capable of driving both displays at the same time. It's a minor annoyance, but I'd like to get it working if it's possible.

There is alot of stuff in here. I'd be interested in seeing if custom styles would work and how much we can edit without breaking it.
I don't care about the taskbar style, all i want is my desktop to look like that when i minimize everything, the clock and all!,I found the picture in an old thread on a forum and the user doesnt go there anymore.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking for any Windows 7 Theme that includes changing the looks of any window that exemplifies the architectural look of a Mac: sharp edges, and boxy buttons, and colored scroll bars. It doesn't have to be necessarily the Mac theme, but anything around that look is acceptable.
I am fine with tweaking the explorer.exe, and some system32 files.
Any suggestions, comments and questions are always welcome.
P.S. I just got tired of the round look of any window.
For a desktop theme the i saved a theme right? then i got a new background and the first one was saved, but i save the second one and every background i choose it makes a "default" background and it overrights the second save. How are you suppose to save a theme without it being overwritten?
