Multiple Theme Packs

I have just downloaded lots of theme packs for Windows 7 and was wondering if there was a quicker way to install them apart from double clicking each one?

Language Packs For W7 - Import From VISTA
Anybody know if during the RC other language packs will be available.

If not could I "Poodlefake" or Backport the language packs from the VISTA system.

I'd like to try the Icelandic pack so some of our "Normal" i.e non technical users back home can check / try Windows 7.

(Of course they all speak excellent English -- like most Scandanavian countries English is a mandatory language in Schools here and even as adults around 90% here speak it fluently but it would be nice to test Windows 7 in a "Working environment" away from the IT testing areas to see how it performs in day to day work. (Maybe not 100% mission critical stuff but for reasonably robust office situations).

Mkv Playback Ez Solution X32 X64-NO CODEC PACKS
I have seen alot about no support for mkv in wmp and wmc on these and other Windows 7 threads/boards. I've seen solutions ranging from adding a complicated divx7(not a free codec) tool with necessary support, adding various codec packs, some crazy scripts and regedits with powershell,cmd etc. that can be disastrous with the slightest mistake.

First, if you want to find out the hard way that codec packs can be dangerous, install one. Some are probably better than others, maybe some even won't screw up your system?

But a prominent codec pack-(touted on these boards)- I tried-back when I was a newbie at multi-media playback-caused major system problems. At first it worked great! Then.......Wierd random icons started showing up for un-related programs, web pages, etc., various formats stopped working, program defaults changed by themselves-had to do a clean disk wipe and os install to correct it! Most claim to be minimalist but the point is, they can essentially take-over a system and cause major instability, freezes,etc. Maybe they work for you? Not judging, just suggesting.

Win7 Theme
I am looking for any Windows 7 Theme that includes changing the looks of any window that exemplifies the architectural look of a Mac: sharp edges, and boxy buttons, and colored scroll bars. It doesn't have to be necessarily the Mac theme, but anything around that look is acceptable.

I am fine with tweaking the explorer.exe, and some system32 files.

Any suggestions, comments and questions are always welcome.

P.S. I just got tired of the round look of any window.

.theme Files
So I decided to look into the .theme file. Although through the nice ui, we only have a few options, it appears as if we have almost limitless in these files.

; Computer - SHIDI_SERVER
[CLSID{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}DefaultIcon]
DefaultValue=%SystemRoot%System32imageres.dll,-109

; UsersFiles - SHIDI_USERFILES
[CLSID{59031A47-3F72-44A7-89C5-5595FE6B30EE}DefaultIcon]
DefaultValue=%SystemRoot%System32imageres.dll,-123

; Network - SHIDI_MYNETWORK
[CLSID{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C}DefaultIcon]
DefaultValue=%SystemRoot%System32imageres.dll,-25

; Recycle Bin - SHIDI_RECYCLERFULL SHIDI_RECYCLER
[CLSID{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}DefaultIcon]
Full=recycle_white_full_512.ico
Empty=recycle_white_empty_512.ico

There is alot of stuff in here. I'd be interested in seeing if custom styles would work and how much we can edit without breaking it.

Theme Reverting After Running Programs
So I downloaded a bunch of wallpapers to get a nice shuffle going on. Went into personalization and checked everything I wanted to get shown in the shuffle and saved it as its own theme.

The problem is that after I run programs (games, mostly - usually L4D, but just five minutes ago, Oblivion as well) the theme will have somehow switched to a new, unsaved and modified theme that is just fixed on whatever background I had up before running the program.

It's really just a minor annoyance, as I I just have to right click->personalize and select my saved theme again, but still - anyone know why it would be messing with my shuffle custom theme?

Turn Off Automatic Switching To Basic Theme
I have a complaint about the way Win7 automatically decides to disable my Aero theme when the computer is actually using resources. Mostly this happens when I play a videogame fullscreen, then have to switch to another program. Obviously there's some system slow down involved for a few seconds, but that doesn't mean that I want to permanently change themes! At the very least it should re-enable Aero as soon as processor/memory use goes back down to normal levels.

A couple times I actually saw a message asking me if I want to switch to Basic theme, but most of the time it just does it without asking me. Worse yet, after I selected No, it switched anyway few minutes later. And as if that's not enough, I wasn't able to select my old theme, it actually modified my current theme. I couldn't find out where to enable Aero back, so I had to redo all my theme's settings from default.

Aero Theme Issue On Dell Studio 1555
I recently got a Dell Studio 1555 laptop and installed Windows 7 on it.

The Aero theme background really becomes funky and full of lines as seen in the attached images. Sometimes application window displays also get messed up as in the attached Paint window.

I installed the latest Driver for the Video from Dell site but that doesn't seem to solve the issue.

Following is the configuration of my laptop:

Intel Pentium Dual Core T4200 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/1MB cache)
3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 800MHz
15.6 Full High Definition (1080p) High Brightness LED Display with TrueLife and Camera
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD

Personalisation Suggestion - Login Screen - Change Background (and Theme)
Just a suggestion but, I thought it would be a good idea to finally allows users to change the login screen with their own backgrounds such as wallpapers or company logos etc as well the colour scheme of the interface via the same interface as you do with the general Windows Visual Customization. Personally I would find it usefull and I know other would do too, instead of using 3rd party apps or doing it manually.

Poor Computer Performance Messages When Running Games With An Aero Theme Enabled
after a hard day in the office working on Windows 7 deployment, I like to home and unwind with an hour or so of game playing.

Trouble is, Windows 7 keeps interrupting my games and throwing up messages on the UI regarding poor performance. I can't recall the exact wording but it's basically saying that my PC is performing very badly and that it does not perhaps meet the specs to run Aero, and do I want to switch to the basic theme.

Now, 3, things:

1. My PC has a 7.1 rating.
2. My game is not running at all slow when Windows throws this up.
3. I click the "I don't care and don't show me this message again" option but it keeps coming up all the time.

Yes, I can stop the messages by using a non-Aero theme but why should I with a powerful PC that isn't even running slowly when the message appears?

Does anyone know how to permanently disable this piece of MS nagware?

Win 7 Ultimate Running Basic Theme Due To Lack Of Aero Support
I just wanted to know if Microsoft Planned on releasing a service pack for modifying the theme of Windows 7 whilist it is running the Basic theme. I have noted a few hacks including modifying the actual UXTHEME.DLL file but I think this should be left best to Microsoft.

Multiple Resolutions On Multiple Displays
I'm having a bit of trouble trying to get two monitors, a small 1024x768 LCD, and a 46" 1920x1080 TV, to display the same wallpaper at different resolutions. My graphics card is older, a Nvidia Quadro FX 1700, but it is perfectly capable of driving both displays at the same time. It's a minor annoyance, but I'd like to get it working if it's possible.

Multiple Computers
I've installed the beta on 3 computers and I know this is a lame question but I wanted to try and find an answer...if I have 3 computers that need operating systems, will I need to buy 3 copies of Win7?  I know no one knows pricing or anything yet, but even with Vista, would I have to buy 3 copies of Vista for the 3 computers or is the license for more than one PC?

Multiple Installations
I'm sorry if this has been answered before but I can't find it. Anyway, my question is this: I have a pc running XP Pro and a laptop running Vista Home Premium (wirelessly connected). I want to buy Windows 7 and install it on both pc and laptop. I am on benefits and am saving up hard to buy it. Now someone has told me that I would need to buy 2 versions of the same product. Is this correct?

Surely I can install it on both systems with the one product. After all I will have bought it legally and it is being used for my own means in my own home. This info has now upset me. I plan to upgrade my pc when I can afford it, but this would also mean that if I ever needed a fresh install I wouldn't be able to do it from my own bought product.

Multiple XP , Then Win 7
Is there an easier way to accomplish this on my laptop? I took an XP image from the first primary partition and copied it to the 2nd partition. When I rebooted to the second partition I thought wow this is just great!. My only problem is when I found out that the working OS saw the booted 2nd partition as the next drive letter and not C drive. Argggg...

How do I get around this? It's easy on my desktop PC because it has two drives and I keep XP on the 1st partition on both drives. But this seems to be a problem on the 1 drive laptop. People recommend on the internet to use EASYBCD but will this really solve this problem? What is the easiest solution? I am open to entering command line arguments. Could manually switching the "active" partition solve this problem using Gparted?

Once I get this solved I would then like to install Windows 7 and also protect the first two versions of XP. I already have my XP apps set on the first partition so I hope to keep that as-is. What is the best way?

Multiple Bootmgr
Alright so I guess I have a bit of an issue. I had Vista installed on a 300GB harddrive, but I got a new harddrive and moved Vista over to that. Unfortunately I never actually reformated the 300GB hard drive so the bootmgr stayed there but was unused. With the new Vista it started a new bootmgr and is now the default bootmgr. Then I installed Windows 7 and that started a new bootmgr. But the BIOS still selects the Vista bootmgr and so I just added Windows 7 to that one. Except now I want to delete the Vista Bootmgr and the 300GB unused bootmgr and use the Windows 7 bootmgr. The Vista bootmgr no longer works for Windows 7 (Vista cannot correctly find the Windows 7 partition because it is set to the G: partition, but the Windows 7 windows folder is in S

I know I can delete the bootmgrs on the inactive drives, except I don't want to because I have no way of booting to the Windows 7 bootmgr. (Default boots to Vista, which would be gone, and using the Windows 7 DVD to boot uses the 300GB worthless bootmgr) If I use the Windows 7 DVD to repair the startup would it create a new bootmgr in the place of the two I delete or would it find the Windows 7 bootmgr and use that?

I'll be working on this for about another hour but if nothing works I'm nuking all three bootmgrs and rebuilding the bootmgr.

Update: Alright I've managed to get all the bootmgrs exactly the same so that everything boots correctly, however I still want to make the computer use the bootmgr on the 55GB Windows 7 drive because it is a 10,000RPM Raptor.

No Multiple OS Boot
I have just finished installing the 64 bit RC.  I installed it on a RAID bios created partition.  Now I cannot get a multiple boot option to show, like I did with windows 7 32 bit version.  I go to the advanced systems settings, found under computer properties, and then to the advanced tab ( all suggested by help and support ),  then to the startup and recovery options.  Now in the settings screen, I click on the OS option and only windows 7 shows up.  My other OS, windows vista 32 bit, does not even show up as an option.

  Luckily, I found out that my bios has a boot up option when the computer first starts up.  If I go into this, I can again get my Vista Home Premium to load up, by selecting the vista partion.  However if I do nothing, the startup defaults to the 64 bit RC OS.  I was then hoping to add in the multiple OS bootup option from Vista.  However, even in Vista's same settings screen, it does not show the windows 7 as a OS boot option.

  Is microsoft fixing this problem?
