May 12, 2012Is it possible to just install a service pack as soon as you install Windows 7, or do you have to install a bunch of smaller updates first?

8007002.I have tried the Microsoft suggested solution. (deleting Software Distribution, somthing like that)but still not work.
I've no idea what's causing this. I tried installing the language packs last night and woke up the next morning to the error codes mentioned above.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis weekend - I installed Windows 7 Pro RTM Final onto a basic "office" workstation and was stunned to see that ALL of my drivers were installed straight away as part of the OS install.
In the past - XP and Vista always pulled me down a path of having to install at least a half dozen specific driver for all hardware pieces - but with 7 - I was good to go.
So what's the thinking? Do I really need the latest Intel chipset software? Is the 185.xx nVidia driver installed by 7 any worse than running the latest bloated pointless installer from the nVidia site? How about DirectX - in the past - I would pull down the latest End User Runtime and install that before my video drivers. Can't even find a Direct X installer for 7 right now...
So - what's everyone else doing?
I have All In One Windows 7 ISO in English. (11 Versions: Starter To Enterprise X86, And Home Basic To Enterprise X64) I would like to have a choice between 35 languages from the installation... how can I integrate the language packs to all of the versions automatically?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new ultrabook and I love its SSD and instant-resume. What I don't love, is that it instantly resumes to the login screen. I have only a single user account, with no password associated with it, and yet I'm still unable to find a way for my computer to skip the login screen when I lift the lid of my notebook after the machine has suspended. Other posts say how to do it to skip the login on first booting the system (netplwiz), or how avoid entering sleep / hibernate modes, but neither of those options are quite what I'm looking for
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have set up my netbook to hibernate on pressing the power button.
It is my wireless music server & ideally I want it to just boot straight to desktop after turning on (so the SqueezeServer software is running). However it still boots to the login screen (even though I've removed the password).
How can I avoid this & boot straight to the hibernated desktop? This netbook has just been repaired & I'm sure I managed to the previous working incarnation to by pass this login page, but can't remember how !
At this moment my PC is wired straight into my modem for internet access. I am however considering plugging it into the router as well in order to access my NAS, enable network printing and what not.The problem that might be is that the router is also providing internet connectivity and thus I will face the problem of having 2 internet connections open.Is there some way for me to tell windows 7 to use the "straight" connection over the router one?. Meaning it will use the straight one to connect to the internet and this not pass that traffic through the router etc.?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI changed explorer.dll in Windows 7. Then explorer wouldn't start when I tried to do so from task manager. So I tried to reboot. After also being unable to make headway in safe mode (using msconfig), as that also requires explorer, I launched startup repair using my windows 7 CD. Then after it said that it would reboot and fix any additional problems, it has kept rebooting and failing. I can't get to safe mode using f8 either, it just comes up with boot options 'Boot from CD' and 'Boot from HDD'.f I can get out of startup repair, that would be tremendous. At least then I can activate word from task manager and save my coursework!'m going to try using Ubuntu's explorer to change the files back. I'll post back any progress! I'll be checking this wall at least 5 times a day until a solution is found.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI never realized it until just now, when I looked through Windows Update. It's been trying to install the service pack update about a hundred times behind my back since LAST JULY. and every time the status is "Failed."
I had checked because I just installed it last night again and shut down my computerr and everything seemed fine. Then this morning I noticed the windows update icon in the taskbar and saw it again even though I just installed it last night and noticed all the failed installations
I get Error Code: 0x800f0826.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a PC running windows 7 64-bit and I am finding it impossible to get windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to install. I start the installation and it seems to run for more than an hour and appears to be installing OK; but when I restart the PC I get an error saying that the installation was not successful and it the rolls back to where it was before I started the installation. I have tried to install a numbr of times, but without success.I have also tried:
* Stopping all non-essential start-up items by disabling them booting on startup using msconfig.
* Stopped all firewall and anti-virus from running during installation
* Run the Windows Update System Readiness Tool (kb947821) before the installation
* Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
* Running the installer from within Windows Update, as a standalone x-64 bit installed downloaded from Microsoft, and as an iso file burned to a DVD
* Run sfc.exe /scannow which reported no errors.
Other Windows Updates seem to install OK - it is just the SP1 update that refuses.[For info: I have another PC that I recently updated (clean install) from XP to Windows 7. I had a similar problem on this PC after I had performed all the other Windows Updates and instaleld my normal suite of programs. SP1 also refused to install. In the end, I reistaleld Win 7 from disc and then immediately installed SP1 before installing any other updates or programs. SP1 installed OK. However I do not want to follow this route on my main PC as it has a load of programs installed which will take a few days to reinstall if I have to start from scratch].

View 6 Replies View RelatedI was updating neighbors PC last night and when I tried to install the windows 7 service pack from windows update at the end of the install it would say it failed then when I rebooted the pc it would say configuring windows and when it reached 32% it would stall and then say it was removing updates and reverting, then it would reboot, do the same thing, reboot and do that cycle like 6 times before windows would actually load up like normal. It happens if I download the .exe version or I try to get it from windows update.
Its a dell pc (forgot the model but its newer has a core i7 860 in it). Has windows 7 ultimate 32bit on it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got Windows Ultimate and decided to let it install language packs I don't need (I didnt actually know they'd take a huge amount of space). Part way through the installation I cancel one of the language packs and the whole update finishes (This was a fresh install). Now in the history it says some of the language packs installed successfully but in "control panel>Change Display Language" there is only English.I'm quite sure a few language packs did install because the SSD free space was shrinking after every install.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAnybody know if during the RC other language packs will be available.
If not could I "Poodlefake" or Backport the language packs from the VISTA system.
I'd like to try the Icelandic pack so some of our "Normal" i.e non technical users back home can check / try Windows 7.
(Of course they all speak excellent English -- like most Scandanavian countries English is a mandatory language in Schools here and even as adults around 90% here speak it fluently but it would be nice to test Windows 7 in a "Working environment" away from the IT testing areas to see how it performs in day to day work. (Maybe not 100% mission critical stuff but for reasonably robust office situations).
I have seen alot about no support for mkv in wmp and wmc on these and other Windows 7 threads/boards. I've seen solutions ranging from adding a complicated divx7(not a free codec) tool with necessary support, adding various codec packs, some crazy scripts and regedits with powershell, cmd etc. that can be disastrous with the slightest mistake.
First, if you want to find out the hard way that codec packs can be dangerous, install one. Some are probably better than others, maybe some even won't screw up your system?
But a prominent codec pack-(touted on these boards)- I tried-back when I was a newbie at multi-media playback-caused major system problems. At first it worked great! Then.......Wierd random icons started showing up for un-related programs, web pages, etc., various formats stopped working, program defaults changed by themselves-had to do a clean disk wipe and os install to correct it! Most claim to be minimalist but the point is, they can essentially take-over a system and cause major instability, freezes, etc. Maybe they work for you? Not judging, just suggesting.
When I try to install W7SP1, I get an error message after it tries to install after restarting after having downloaded it in Windows Update. It's error code 0x800f0826. IT used to be 0x80071a9, but I fixed that I think.
Note: My laptop does not have a built in disc reader, because of its design, nor did it come with any W7 CD's.
I have tried to install this update six times today (07/05/12) after it was flagged as an important update this morning. Looking at my update history it also failed to instal on the 18th October last year but it has not bothered me since and i have not noticed it until now. Of the seven attempts I had the following error codes from earliest to latest : 800B0100, 80246007, 80010108, 8024200D, 8024200D, 8024200D, 8024200D. I have followed advice from MS running KB947821 and FIX IT also disabled my Norton 360 firewalls and auto protect but to no avail. Also I do not have a DVD with Windows 7 as it was not supplied with my PC and I don't want to restore my computer and lose all my installed software.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been getting notifications for Service pack 1 for the last 2 months, so about 2 weeks ago I decided to install the update. The first time of trying it didn't install and after 3 other attempt it still hasn't worked. The update runs and downloads all the components then restarts. As soon as the Laptop goes to boot up it says configuring. It then goes to 10% and stops and aborts. The Laptop restarts again and configures back to default setting and starts normally again with a box saying Service pack installation was unsuccessfully. After a bit of research I found out that I may need to install System Update Readiness Tool. This programme will not install on my pc either for some reason?.
